[00:43:54] | voyo: | hi. I have question regarding mythfrontend for windows – is ther a way to force it to run on secondary screen (when you have two monitors) ? |
[00:44:59] | ** voyo slaps voyo around a bit with a large trout ** | |

[00:56:43] | J-e-f-f-A: | Grr... Trying to figure out what's up with my DB, as I have been getting lots of DUP recordings of stuff that's previously recorded... Something must be goofed in my DB somehow... Here's one example: http://pastebin.ca/2113565 |
[00:57:31] | J-e-f-f-A: | And the recordings are setup for "Check for duplicates in Subtitle and Description" and "Check for duplicates in All recordings"... |
[00:59:46] | J-e-f-f-A: | Humm... too bad we can't specify "Check for duplicates via ProgramID"... hummm.... Maybe that's because it may not always be available? |
[01:02:00] | Seeker`: | eugh, something in the last week has broken BDMV playback it would seem |
[01:02:15] | J-e-f-f-A: | it wasn't me! ;-) |

[01:04:26] | voyo: | wagnerrp: where is that ? Im talking about Windows (7 – to be precise) , not Linux |
[01:04:47] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: yeah, use the --geometry WxH+X+Y command-line option. |
[01:04:53] | wagnerrp: | its in the frontend appearances, not sure where |
[01:05:09] | wagnerrp: | or you can set a non-persistent override on the command line, like jeffa described |
[01:05:39] | stormjosh: | Could anyone help me come up with a solution? I'd like to record a certain TV show and save it onto my home PC. Then, I'd like to watch that show from another location with my laptop. Does anyone know how to make this happen? |
[01:05:40] | voyo: | ok, tnx. I'll check that |
[01:06:16] | wagnerrp: | stormjosh: run a frontend on your laptop, have it connect to the backend installed on your home PC? |
[01:06:24] | stormjosh: | I |
[01:06:29] | stormjosh: | I'm sorry, whats a backend and a front end? |
[01:06:36] | wagnerrp: | do you know what mythtv is? |
[01:06:46] | stormjosh: | I've used something like it years ago |
[01:06:58] | wagnerrp: | something like it... what specifically? |
[01:07:06] | Seeker`: | does anyone else have any BDMV videos that is running trunk? |
[01:07:23] | stormjosh: | I used my laptop with an external tuner card to watch TV. it had DVR functionality and channel selector etc etc |
[01:07:28] | stormjosh: | if im confused let me know haha |
[01:07:33] | J-e-f-f-A: | Seeker`: I have a BDMV, but not on trunk, 0.24-fixes |
[01:07:58] | wagnerrp: | mythtv is a linux-based dvr system |
[01:08:09] | stormjosh: | oohhhh, only linux? |
[01:08:10] | wagnerrp: | system, meaning it extends beyond a single machine |
[01:08:29] | Seeker`: | J-e-f-f-A: I thin this is something that has been broken by a commit within the last week or so |
[01:08:31] | wagnerrp: | you have one or more tuners installed to one or more backends |
[01:08:44] | wagnerrp: | and you access those tuners from one or more frontends across the network |
[01:08:58] | J-e-f-f-A: | Seeker`: Ah – then maybe looking through the commit logs? I think you can search them on the Gossamer archives... |
[01:09:02] | stormjosh: | thank you for that, backend = computer? |
[01:09:15] | wagnerrp: | backend = computer running `mythbackend` |
[01:09:23] | wagnerrp: | frontend = computer running `mythfrontend` |
[01:09:31] | stormjosh: | oh, haha |
[01:09:41] | wagnerrp: | you can run then on the same machine, you can run them on separate machines |
[01:09:53] | wagnerrp: | you can have multiples of each, all linked together |
[01:10:05] | stormjosh: | so, I install the backend to the PC with the tv tuner |
[01:10:13] | wagnerrp: | while linux is technically not a requirement |
[01:10:15] | stormjosh: | and the frontend on any devices I want to watch on |
[01:10:22] | wagnerrp: | mythtv does not support much in the way of tuner cards on anything besides linux |
[01:10:28] | stormjosh: | I see |
[01:10:38] | stormjosh: | know any windows solutions for what I'm trying to do? |
[01:10:51] | wagnerrp: | windows media center? |
[01:11:01] | wagnerrp: | although that has some restrictions on access outside of MCE |
[01:11:32] | wagnerrp: | i dont believe it allows other PCs to link into it, only media center extenders such as an xbox |
[01:11:43] | stormjosh: | gotcha |
[01:11:53] | stormjosh: | Basically, I'm trying to record a sports game using my home PC and then somehow later watch it on a laptop. So without linux myth tv can't really help, right? |
[01:12:14] | wagnerrp: | correct |
[01:12:18] | voyo: | btw. talking about this yet – does window backend support local DVB* cards ? |
[01:12:37] | Seeker`: | J-e-f-f-A: looking through the github commit log atm |
[01:12:53] | wagnerrp: | mythtv does not support backends running on windows |
[01:12:55] | stormjosh: | ok. Thank you for your help |
[01:13:01] | stormjosh: | I really appreciate it |
[01:13:08] | wagnerrp: | you *might* be able to get by with an HDHR connected to a windows backend |
[01:13:24] | stormjosh: | the homerun? |
[01:13:29] | wagnerrp: | but theres too much other stuff that is designed for POSIX systems, and with no windows-specific alternative |
[01:13:32] | voyo: | well... It runs :) but I can't see any useful input to configure with mythtv-setup |
[01:13:48] | wagnerrp: | i cant admit to trying it, but i highly doubt a backend will run properly on windows |
[01:14:08] | stormjosh: | yeah, no sense in doing things strangely like that |
[01:14:13] | voyo: | not that I want to, Im just curious |
[01:14:14] | wagnerrp: | in any case, it does not have BDA support to use 'local dvb* cards' |
[01:14:26] | stormjosh: | see ya :) |
[01:14:26] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: Probably not – I think the video stuff is all dependent on V4L, which doesn't exist in the windows world. |

[01:29:42] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : Im not guru, but Im using it, whats wrong? |
[01:31:08] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: I'm not a noob (been using Myth for about 6 or 7 yrs), but somethings goofed up with my DB as I'm getting shows that were previously recorded, and have the "Check for duplicates" set properly, recording over and over again... d'oh! |
[01:34:18] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : ha , ok . I may only suggest to try look at tables manually, or run backend with -v record, database to see whats happening. |

[02:01:33] | voyo: | FYI – mythfrontend cmd under Windows is not working at all, no options are accepted. But I managed to move to secondary screen by seting GuiOffsetX & GuiOffsetY. Disadvantage of this method is I need to know size of secondary screen. |

[02:03:22] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo – yes, but it should be a one-time thing... |
[02:05:00] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : yes. assuming I will not change resolution on second screen ;) also – it will run "out of screen" when second monitor is not plugged. you need to remember about that, and there is no way to fix this – but manually update 'settings' table in mysql... ;) |
[02:06:07] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: Ah, well, Myth is really designed to be a dedicated PVR system, and Winders doesn't get much attention either. ;-) |

[02:08:07] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : haha, yes I know. Its just funny thing. Im using mythtv also few years, in my living room – ofc with linux. I just wanted to play a little with windows on my laptop. |
[02:08:12] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: Although it has gotten alot more attention the last year or two. ;-) |
[02:08:49] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: You can probably get away with using MythWeb's ASX links. |
[02:10:39] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : I think I know maybe why – windows frontend does not have problems with graphic and sound drivers. everything works smoothly here without touching anything special. I cannot say that about my linux setup (have ATI card, after aabout a year I managed to run *everything* perfectly – but without HD offload, then I bought nvidia....). |
[02:11:12] | voyo: | ASX links ? whats that ? |
[02:12:14] | voyo: | ah, streaming window popups.. Im rarely using it |
[02:12:27] | J-e-f-f-A: | voyo: Assuming you have MythWEb setup on your backend, go to the "Recorded Programs" page – there's an icon of a speaker and film next to the preview image. |
[02:12:38] | voyo: | yes yes |
[02:13:37] | J-e-f-f-A: | As long as you're on your local lan, and you've got enough bandwidth (should have, but wireless can be 'iffy'), you should be able to stream the recording directly with VLC or even WMP [I think] with that link. |
[02:14:59] | voyo: | next disadvantage I just noticed – running a game on primary screen makes mythfrondend to stop rendering screen (freeze), sound is still playing – but also main output is changed to the output of game (headphones -> speakers). |
[02:15:09] | voyo: | shame – I cannot play and watch TV :P |
[02:15:55] | voyo: | J-e-f-f-A : yes, thats nice. but shame its not streaming also liveTV :( , Im missing this feature. |

[05:34:17] | k-man: | anyway, i'm trying to set up this mac pro i have as a build server for mythtv so i can get back into writing my theme |
[05:34:18] | Beirdo: | hehe |
[05:34:19] | skd5aner: | sorry buddy... good luck |
[05:34:24] | Beirdo: | whatever :) |

[05:34:49] | skd5aner: | alright... off to bed |
[05:34:51] | k-man: | i got stuck before because I couldn't compile mythtv on OSX Lion |
[05:35:19] | k-man: | but it appears its compiling now on Snow Leopard according to the commits messages i'm reading |

[05:37:01] | Beirdo: | yeah, I can try it, I guess |
[05:37:27] | Beirdo: | that will mean I have to add the add-header support to mythdownloadmanager too to accept-encoding gzip |

[05:38:13] | Beirdo: | yup |
[05:38:21] | skd5aner: | has it always been compressed? |

[13:37:34] | jya: | and best ? (you need a beefy CPU, it's very cpu intensive) |

[13:39:53] | jya: | ok… what I'm trying to assert if the issue is related to resampling to a particular sampling rate |

[13:40:55] | jya: | it does? ok.. what I need to know now, is what it is resampling your 8kHz into, 32kHz or 48? |
[13:41:19] | stuartm: | 48 |
[13:41:34] | stuartm: | http://pastebin.com/WW2Wn1Rk (I'll grab a full -v audio log shortly if still required) |
[13:43:37] | jya: | 48kHz? interesting.. I can't hear it when resampling at 48kHz, but I can at 32 |
[13:44:24] | jya: | you're a bit greedy in your log.. I'd like to see the beginning, where it shows info about your audio card capabilities |
[13:44:26] | stuartm: | http://pastebin.com/Y3VQbPUh |
[13:45:33] | jya: | so to summarise: 8 – > 48kHz: low quality resampling: no beep, good best: beep |
[13:46:49] | stuartm: | correct |
[13:47:57] | jya: | that's weird… me 8->48 : never click, 8->32 only with good |

[13:54:34] | jya: | will try to lodge a bug with the author of libsamplerate .. problem could still be at your end with how it's called.. but I doubt it... |
[13:57:54] | jya: | I have a few work around for you for the time being… So use the fastest setting in the override resampler |

[22:04:02] | wagnerrp: | mythfrontend has a network control socket, with support in various 3rd party applications |

[22:35:30] | wagnerrp: | or is it straight out of your camera? |
[22:36:29] | CiaranG: | It's way too big to play over the lan, straight out of the camera, so I did ffmpeg -i file.mpg -qscale 1 file2.mpg |
[22:36:34] | CiaranG: | No other options |
[22:36:56] | CiaranG: | It worked for a couple of short videos, but all the longer ones just do this |

[22:37:55] | wagnerrp: | too big to play over the lan? what do you mean? |
[22:38:52] | CiaranG: | Can't shift the data fast enough. They play, but they pause every few seconds |
[22:40:23] | wagnerrp: | but surely your camera isnt putting out anything that would even strain a 10/100 network |
[22:40:27] | CiaranG: | Too high bitrate, rather than too big, I should say. At least, I assume that's the problem – it's the same for vlc if I don't re-encode them first. |
[22:40:38] | CiaranG: | Well it seems to be. Always has done |
[22:41:14] | wagnerrp: | what processor are you trying to play this on? |
[22:41:36] | wagnerrp: | unless youre using wireless, the network should not be a bottleneck for a single video |
[22:41:54] | wagnerrp: | wizbit: meh, not enough screen space |
[22:42:15] | CiaranG: | This machine: model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz |
[22:42:48] | wagnerrp: | shouldnt have a problem unless its high bitrate (10Mbps+), single sliced H264 |
[22:43:06] | CiaranG: | The network is wired, 100, but this has always been the case with videos from that camera across the network, regardless of the playback machine |
[22:43:20] | CiaranG: | That's why I always re-encode them |
[22:44:32] | CiaranG: | Stream #0.0(eng): Video: mjpeg, yuvj422p, 320x240, 3936 kb/s |
[22:44:53] | CiaranG: | That's what ffmpeg says about a video straight off the camera |
[22:46:34] | CiaranG: | Oh yeah, it's mjpeg |
[22:55:42] | stuartm: | that should be child's play, a 100T network can play blu-ray rips which run at an average of 24Mbps, vs your 4Mbps |
[22:57:10] | stuartm: | the maximum bitrate for video alone on blu-ray is 40Mbps |
[22:58:07] | stuartm: | so if this plays fine locally but not across the network, then there's something faulty in your network – broken NIC/router or a non-standard network config |
[23:01:35] | CiaranG: | Yeah, but I don't have a problem playing high bitrate videos over the lan from anywhere to anywhere (7 myth frontends to choose from). Just files that come off the camera. |
