[00:01:31] Muzer: hmm, not according to that site you just linked to :/
[00:01:54] Muzer: Input priority — in the "mythtv-setup" program, the "Input Connections" section allows you to add additional priority in the "Input priority". This is simply another priority factor but has an interesting effect. If a card input has a higher value than the other cards, the scheduler will see that you would rather record showings of episodes on this input rather than a showing on other inputs.

[01:40:56] IanWizard-Cloud: Perhaps this is the wrong chan for this, perhaps the devs channel would be better. I'm designing (nothing purchased yet), a system, to go through my cable box, and keep a running FIFO-y, buffer on a drive, right after the cable box. Then have Myth use that buffer as the tv input source. How should I go about that? Or rather, *can* I do that without completely writing it all by hand...
[01:41:37] sphery: why not use standard equipment to do that?
[01:42:04] sphery: IanWizard-Cloud: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Recording_Digital_Cable
[01:42:50] sphery: and since mythtv actually records to HDD, doesn't seem like you'd need another HDD in th emix
[01:43:55] IanWizard-Cloud: Let me simplify this.... Cable comes in, get split into an undetermined number of cable boxes (or whatever ends up being needed for that, still in the air a bit), Then, I will have a ~1tb drive for each, that will be used as a buffer, and then, (and this will be across the network, buffer drives will be networked).
[01:44:20] sphery: well, mythtv is networked
[01:44:24] sphery: records to drives...
[01:44:31] sphery: still not seeing why you need something else
[01:44:45] sphery: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Executive_Overview
[01:45:10] IanWizard-Cloud: Myth TV then should be able to somehow A). get the live tv off of that, and then (possibly in the future), be able to search into the buffer, to record things that have already started.
[01:45:17] sphery: I have 6 tuners that can record 6 channels at once, and any computer in my house can watch recordings from any of those tuners
[01:45:28] sphery: (where computer can be hooked to a monitor or TV or ..)
[01:45:34] IanWizard-Cloud: sphery: I want to get a buffer for every channel, (and tuner / cable box)
[01:45:49] sphery: you could just tell mythtv to record everything
[01:46:06] sphery: and automatically expire it by age or priority
[01:46:07] sphery: or ...
[01:46:16] wagnerrp: IanWizard-Cloud: why do you want to record everything that comes in on every cable box?
[01:46:19] wagnerrp: what good is that?
[01:46:42] wagnerrp: the idea is you let mythtv control the cable boxes, it records the things you tell it to, using those cable boxes
[01:46:48] wagnerrp: and then you play back the content at some later time
[01:46:55] IanWizard-Cloud: sphery: wagnerrp: overkill... is underrated.
[01:47:15] sphery: still, you can overkill with standard equipment and standard mythtv
[01:47:20] IanWizard-Cloud: wagnerrp: this way I have a several hour (depending on format), buffer of every channel.
[01:47:23] bixter (bixter!~bixter@pool-108-36-80-112.phlapa.fios.verizon.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:48:00] wagnerrp: rather, you get a buffer of those specific channels you have your cable boxes tuned to
[01:48:04] IanWizard-Cloud: sphery: I'm getting a box with a 750g drive for the media server, but I want a much bigger buffer :)
[01:48:15] sphery: IanWizard-Cloud: I have 1789 programs, using 7.3 TB (2 months 10 days 19 hrs 26 mins) out of 10 TB (3.2 TB free).
[01:48:57] sphery: i.e. if I started playing back all my recordings with no gaps and stopped recording new stuff, it would be 2mos and 10 3/4 days before it finishes playing them
[01:49:09] sphery: and that's actually stuff I told it I would like to watch
[01:49:19] sphery: rather than "whatever garbage they broadcast in the last X hours"
[01:49:48] sphery: meaning if you set up mythtv, you're likely to get way more content than you can possibly watch even if you don't have a running buffer of everything

[01:50:20] IanWizard-Cloud: I've got to go real quick, I'll be back later to finish, sorry :(
[01:50:22] sphery: but, again, mythtv can record everything from as many channels as you have available tuners
[01:50:34] sphery: and deal with expiring old stuff

[02:11:52] skd5aner: I don't know, never used the feature

[06:23:37] sphery: wagnerrp: rumor has it you may have missed Bones, tonight
[06:23:48] wagnerrp: ?
[06:24:17] sphery: I heard some parts of Ohio had a, er, Browns out during Bones
[06:24:39] Beirdo: Hopefully you are out of radius of those fools
[06:25:01] sphery: Beirdo said his cousin's area (closer to Cleveland) didn't show it
[06:25:09] Beirdo: I'd think that half a mile from the stadium should be outta radius :)
[06:25:24] Beirdo: You should hear her and her friends complain :)
[06:25:39] sphery: I'm guessing the station will re-air it on weekend time, maybe
[06:25:46] sphery: since that's one of the big Fox shows
[06:25:54] Beirdo: Browns vs Steelers. Hehe.
[06:26:06] Beirdo: and they are kinda in range of both teams almost
[06:26:48] wagnerrp: are you saying the cleveland/pittsburgh game ran long?
[06:26:48] Beirdo: still, you explain to some NFL-hating Bones-loving TV fans why this should ever happen.
[06:26:56] Beirdo: sounds like it
[06:27:23] Beirdo: she tuned in for Bones and got #$@#$ing football. :)
[06:27:24] Beirdo: hehe
[06:28:01] wagnerrp: is there a comment on the mailing list that im missing?
[06:28:20] Beirdo: no, it was my cousin loudly complaining... on Facebook of all places :)
[06:29:11] Beirdo: started with: Fox8 is the worst. Newsflash: not all people in Cleveland care about the Browns-Steelers rivalry. The fact that you cancelled Bones for a football game is inexcusible. It's not like it's the Super-freakin-Bowl!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrr
[06:29:15] Beirdo: heheh
[06:29:46] sphery: hehe
[06:29:47] wagnerrp: who won?
[06:29:57] Beirdo: the almighty $$$ won
[06:30:00] Beirdo: duh :)
[06:30:01] ** wagnerrp bets on pittsburgh **
[06:30:02] sphery: it basically mirrors the CBS rant from the list a couple months ago
[06:30:08] Beirdo: yep
[06:30:29] Beirdo: I remember times Fox cancelled new Simpsons episodes for NFL
[06:30:32] Beirdo: repeatedly
[06:30:46] Beirdo: and Simpsons is by FAR their most popular show
[06:30:53] sphery: yeah, or went to "already in progress" shows
[06:31:10] sphery: wagnerrp: seems you should have made that bet before the game
[06:31:28] Beirdo: a commercial slot in Simpsons, however was still considerably cheaper than one in an NFL game
[06:31:34] ** wagnerrp cant imagine the hell that would be raised on Short Vine if cleveland had one **
[06:32:29] wagnerrp: there was a big steelers bar a block away from my old apartment
[06:32:57] Beirdo: heh
[06:33:42] Beirdo: anywho, I think I'm gonna do something odd... go to bed early for once

[20:26:51] iamlindoro: Update and recompile
[20:26:51] sphery: Blaksmith: I meant that PS3 accesses recordings using UPnP (not the UPnP that your router uses to allow devices to reconfigure the router/firewall, but the UPnP that's used for accessing media from a system on the network)
[20:28:26] Blaksmith: sphery, ok... so, where would the setup be ... on the ps3 or on the box running the backend? sorry, I'm having a brain fart on things today
[20:28:42] sphery: in theory there's no setup
[20:29:10] Blaksmith: in mythtv-setup, I do have "UPnP Server Settings" set to "Recordigns" .. which should be fine .. as far as I can tell
[20:29:10] sphery: it's "Universal* Plug-n-Play" (*though not really as Universal as it would imply)
[20:29:44] sphery: I was just saying that since UPnP uses HTTP to access media, you need to set up the UTF-8 environment, properly, or things will fail
[20:30:04] sphery: (that's the only reason UPnP becomes important--didn't explain that part well)
[20:30:09] Blaksmith: ok, so, the statement I said earlier about the locale issue, MAY be part of it
[20:30:24] sphery: i.e. you're using upnp, so you need to set up your environment for UTF-8 for proper functionality
[20:30:53] sphery: well, until you fix that, I wouldn't waste time trying to investigate any issues with UPnP :)
[20:30:56] iamlindoro: It's a "please update and recompile" issue
[20:30:57] Blaksmith: wagnerrp mentioned that it really shouldn't matter, so I left it at that .. but ok, you are saying that I may need to make sure that it is set
[20:31:05] sphery: right
[20:31:28] sphery: it's used for various things--and metadata stuff is a primary usage--but it also comes into play with other things such as UPnP
[20:31:32] Blaksmith: iamlindoro, no, it is NOT a please update and recompile
[20:31:57] iamlindoro: yes, it really is
[20:32:11] sphery: just that many fewer people use UPnP than metadata stuff, so it isn't as commonly seen an issue with UPnP
[20:32:47] sphery: Blaksmith: iamlindoro means check the -commits list
[20:32:56] sphery: and then update and recompile
[20:33:20] sphery: and while you're at it, also please fix your application environment for mythtv apps to be UTF-8

[21:55:35] joemyth: yeah but i think the early versions of redmine were really basic
[21:55:52] sphery: we should get them to clone MythTV 1.0, then we could just copy all the changes into current MythTV and save a ton of work
[21:56:33] kormoc: joemyth, not that much more basic. They serve similar functions so they have similar looks and feels because it's what people are used to. It's really not fair to call any of them a clone of any other
[21:56:47] joemyth: is too
[21:57:04] kormoc: sphery, Indeed! Unless we've dropped support for all the hardware we have now cause it's too old...
[21:57:20] ** kormoc shakes his head at joemyth and backs out of this argument. **
[21:57:27] sphery: I've been getting all my fixes by just using my time machine to go into the future and see what changes I had made, but it's getting expensive having to buy 1.21GW each time I want to change MythTV
[21:58:01] kormoc: sphery, you need a lightning rod. Then we'd get commit floods from you during thunderstorms
[21:58:12] joemyth: i just spent like 3 days on jira – at this point i'd be happy using trac, redmine, or anything
[21:58:30] sphery: hehe--and being in FL, the lightning capital of the (world|US), I could be quite productive that way

[22:18:01] Blaksmith: YAY.. first one works
[22:18:38] Blaksmith: hmm, getting corrupted data on some .. will have to double check the way it is saved
[22:18:52] Blaksmith: but, not getting the "directory missing" any more
[22:20:35] Blaksmith: Stream type is still set to MPEG-2 TS ..
