[03:31:26] brockp: I just setup an hdhomerun and I can watch live tv for a short time but after a while the video will just freeze and then myth will jump back out for tv to the menu, I can start again with no issues, rinse repeat same behavior every time, any thoughts?
[03:32:34] wagnerrp: running out of disk space?
[03:32:57] wagnerrp: you run out, recording is terminated, auto-expirer deletes the recording, repeat
[03:33:22] brockp: 777GB free,
[03:33:43] brockp: Max required Free Space: 12.0 GB w/freq: 14 min
[03:35:49] brockp: "Error: Waited too ong for decoder to fill video buffers. Exiting
[03:36:28] wagnerrp: when is the last time your HDHR has been reset?
[03:37:10] brockp: Unplugged it yesterday to move it
[03:37:42] brockp: my homerun is prob ~3 yo, does the current myth expect maybe newer firmware than I have?
[03:37:52] brockp: Sorry Had myth for a while only recently returned wiht a new install,
[03:39:52] wagnerrp: the current (0.24) myth is designed to work with a firmware probably from mid 2010
[03:40:59] brockp: Do you know how to check firmware version on the HDHR?
[03:41:58] wagnerrp: you can using the hdhomerun_config tool that comes in the library on their site
[03:43:13] brockp: Yeah was poking around that only finding how to update not check the current value
[03:44:49] brockp: There is a 2011 version for my device so I am going to update it can't hurt
[03:44:59] brockp: well it can, just shouldn't

[03:55:48] brockp: ah no love, very strange behavior, when it stops the backend creates a new .mpg file in my livetv storage area that is 0 bytes large
[04:00:25] jedix: damn, I bought a pre-amp to try and fix my signal issue but no luck
[04:00:38] jedix: I wonder if I have a break in the cable that affects certain channels

[04:55:36] Oleg_: cable providers sometimes compress video shown on TVs. any of you have this problem?
[04:55:54] wagnerrp: all digital broadcasts are compressed
[04:56:07] wagnerrp: scratch that, all television broadcasts are compressed, period
[04:57:03] wagnerrp: or are you referring to cable headends recompressing the broadcast feeds?
[04:57:09] Oleg_: yeah
[05:04:46] brockp: So on my new myth setup I can watch live tv for a while with my hdhr, but it will after some time stop, I notice that for a moment the /tuner0/target of the HDHR, changes from what it was when live tv started, should it do this?
[05:06:21] Oleg_: so, back in analog days, indoor antennas were much less useful devices for getting great broadcast reception than they are today?
[05:07:21] BLZbubba: in mythvideo is there a way to configure how much of a video's title it shows across the top while browsing through them? it shows about 20% of the screen width and then cuts the title off with ... – leaving a huge blank area before showing e.g. "1 of 5"
[05:08:14] Oleg_: I used to think of indoor antennas as shitty devices until I was able to capture digital channels with them back in 2008
[05:13:00] Oleg_: I still don't understand why outdoor antennas are so much better than indoor antennas for capturing analog channels
[05:13:22] wagnerrp: BLZbubba: you have to alter the theme
[05:13:32] Oleg_: I know that with digital, it's usually "all or nothing", but still...
[05:14:04] wagnerrp: because with digital, that 'nothing' point is somewhere around 70–80%
[05:14:28] wagnerrp: so at 80%, analog is looking pretty fuzzy, but digital looks perfect
[05:14:44] wagnerrp: while at 70%, analog still looks fuzzy and crappy, but digital gets nothing

[08:02:48] wizbit: im having problems compiling mythmusic on 24.1, ./configure shows whats missing, but when i install slackbuilds of the missing deps, mythtv still complains they are missing, is there a way to find out detailed information of mythmusic deps, ie lame etc
[08:03:08] [R]: what?
[08:03:14] [R]: read the log
[08:03:23] wagnerrp: if configure shows you whats missing, whats the problem?
[08:04:09] wizbit: MythMusic requires FLAC.
[08:04:17] wizbit: let me check if the slackbuild is installed, hold on a sec
[08:04:28] wagnerrp: so install the flac libraries
[08:04:55] wizbit: flac is installed by default on slackware 13.37 with full packages installed
[08:05:01] wizbit: but mythtv doesnt find it

[08:09:16] wizbit: wagnerrp: oh they are there already, /usr/lib64/libFLAC.so etc
[08:12:06] wizbit: ive now created new symlinks in /usr/local/lib64/libFLAC* but still get this error: MythMusic requires FLAC.
[08:12:52] wagnerrp: configure checks for the flak libraries by compiling a very simple application linking to it
[08:13:10] wagnerrp: if the compile fails, and configure faults
[08:13:21] wagnerrp: it is because the header it is looking for cannot be found
[08:13:44] wizbit: header = flac source code?
[08:13:51] wagnerrp: kinda
[08:14:25] wagnerrp: the header documents the external interface to the library that applications can access
[08:14:39] wagnerrp: class definitions, function prototypes, etc...
[08:14:48] wizbit: ok ill have to find out the slackware way of getting the headers
[08:15:26] wagnerrp: i honestly dont understand why distros ship independent 'devel' libraries that contain the headers
[08:15:34] wagnerrp: youre talking about a bunch of tiny text files

[17:32:57] wagnerrp: by default, the video scanner in mythvideo will only pick up new content
[17:33:02] wagnerrp: it will not search for metadata
[17:33:14] wagnerrp: there is an option you can check off to automatically run the bulk grabber after a scan
[17:33:24] wagnerrp: or you can trigger it manually from the 'm' menu
[17:33:39] wagnerrp: note that each video file will only ever be processed by the bulk grabber once
[17:33:52] wagnerrp: after which it will be marked as processed, and the bulk grabber will skip it on subsequent runs
[17:34:09] dlirit: ah
[17:34:20] dlirit: well it's weird that it did not find any metadata information for like 100 videos
[17:34:24] dlirit: but only 2
[17:34:28] wagnerrp: however, you can still individually call it on your videos manually
[17:34:39] wagnerrp: in order for the grabbers to work properly
[17:34:58] wagnerrp: your content must be named in the database according to what the grabber and website in question expects
[17:35:01] dlirit: with the m menu on a video?
[17:35:15] wagnerrp: that is TheMovieDB (tmdb.py) for movies, and TheTVDB (ttvdb.py) for television
[17:35:44] wagnerrp: typically, you name your files such that they can be properly parsed by the scanner, and the database entry set up correctly in the first place

[21:26:55] [R]: wagnerrp: im contemplating update to master today
[21:26:55] iamlindoro: It's a per-host setting, not a single setting
[21:26:57] wagnerrp: as it will only run on the hostname that is listed for that recording
[21:27:26] iamlindoro: (thus it must be set on the backend, in mythtv-setup)
[21:27:51] stoth: hmm. the hostname field in job queue is null. I see.
[21:28:09] wagnerrp: if the hostname in the jobqueue is NULL, any jobqueue can use it
[21:28:29] iamlindoro: but it still needs to be set allowed to run on the host in question
[21:30:55] stoth: ok. yes, I had to specifically enable the 'allow on this host' in mythtv-setup.
[21:31:19] stoth: thx

[22:08:44] ** iamlindoro is more curious why one would need to backup and restore the DB to update mythtv **
[22:11:36] Jonathan_: Well my issue is this: My mythtv has been working perfectly until today. I updated ubuntu to 11.0xxx I opened mythtv and it asked if I wanted to upgrade my database. I initially said "No" and opened mythtv and everythign worked fine. I closed the Frontend and reopened the frontend and it again asked if I wanted to upgrade. I said "Yes". Since then none of my channels lock (I get no channels)
[22:12:11] Jonathan_: [R] Thank you. I typed that in but now I am getting an error "Unable to connect to database. Would you happen to have any idea what that is about?
[22:12:37] [R]: probably because you dont know what you are doing and can't follow directions
[22:13:58] Jonathan_: I am following the directions from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore. I am typing exactly the information from the Specific file (with of course putting my file name in the place and the directoy in /bar/lib/mythtv/db_backups
[22:15:14] Jonathan_: [R] that is why I came to the chatroom. I was hoping to get help from someone who knows mythbuntu and mythtv a little better than I do. I'm following what I can from the mythtv.org website but my lack of knowledge in linux is my issue
[22:15:16] iamlindoro: There is massive amounts of confusion here
[22:15:35] iamlindoro: the frontend prompt to update the DB *only* pertains to the plugins... not the backend, or recording of any kind
[22:15:53] iamlindoro: When you upgraded mythtv, your backend already automatically updated the abckend schema
[22:16:06] iamlindoro: if you restore a DB backup from before your upgrade, mythtv will become nonfunctional
[22:16:20] iamlindoro: whatever issue you are having with recording, it has nothing to do with the database
[22:16:37] Jonathan_: no, not from before my upgrade. This is the db backup after 11. It is the backup it created today saying "if you have trouble please restore this file"
[22:16:44] iamlindoro: Especially as the tables related to recording content have not changed in many releases
[22:16:59] iamlindoro: And that backup is only a difference of plugin schema
[22:17:04] iamlindoro: meaning it has nothing to do with your recordings
[22:17:16] iamlindoro: and restoring it will change nothing, besides breaking your plugins
[22:17:37] Jonathan_: So why would none of my channels no longer come in to watch (live not recorded) after I upgraded on the popup that came from opening frontend?
[22:17:53] iamlindoro: The two have nothing to do with one another
[22:18:15] iamlindoro: The answer to the question is "they wouldn't, and those two occurences are in no way related, because it's impossible"
[22:18:29] iamlindoro: If you are having a liveTV issue, it's because of something else
[22:19:11] iamlindoro: likely because you updated your distribution at the same time you updated myth, and because you now have broken or problematic drivers for your capture device
[22:19:45] Jonathan_: So should I try to re-setup the backend of the capture device and channels?
[22:20:01] iamlindoro: You can try lots of things, but backend logs would be far more enlightening
[22:20:14] iamlindoro: anything else is just firing blindly
[22:20:34] Jonathan_: Ok. Again as a noob to mythtv, ubuntu, how can I check these backend logs?
[22:21:21] iamlindoro: find where your backend process puts logs, assuming it's set up to log, and read them there
[22:21:31] iamlindoro: likely in /var/log somewhere
[22:21:46] iamlindoro: and since you are new, don't interpret them yourself, pastebin them for experts to read
[22:23:14] Jonathan_: Can I post my pastebin here and see what you think?
[22:24:11] iamlindoro: that was the general idea
[22:27:05] Jonathan_: pastebin.com/UFUvajUt
[22:28:15] iamlindoro: That is not a valid paste
[22:28:49] Jonathan_: Sorry. Mistype: http://www.pastebin.com/UFUvAjUt (copying it from other computer)

[22:29:56] Jonathan_: line 423 is where the upgrade happened
[22:30:26] ali1234: how do i completely wipe all tuning data from mythtv and start again?
[22:30:47] ali1234: i deleted the channels but the transponders still hang around and cause problems
[22:31:11] iamlindoro: Jonathan_: No, that's where the *backend* upgrade happened
[22:31:26] iamlindoro: The upgrade you are referring to was a frontend plugin schema update
[22:33:06] iamlindoro: And since your upgrade, it appears you ahve tried repeatedly to watch the same program on the same channel-- the LSU game
[22:33:12] iamlindoro: a live TV problem with that could be anything
[22:33:33] iamlindoro: could be that the way the particular program is being broadcast is giving your new version of your driver fits
[22:33:35] Jonathan_: thats the first hcannel it tries to ocnnect to multiple times. I have tried all channels
[22:33:47] iamlindoro: Not according to this log you ahven't
[22:34:01] iamlindoro: Every single attempt to watch TV from today is the LSU game
[22:34:25] iamlindoro: Personally, I suspect your issue is the new versions of your DVB drivers
[22:34:47] iamlindoro: I would start by trying a regular recording
[22:34:51] iamlindoro: And seeing how that goes
[22:35:01] iamlindoro: IF that fails, then I would try rescanning your channels
[22:35:16] iamlindoro: If it succeeds, you can start playing with the signal and channel timeouts for your tuners
[22:35:27] Jonathan_: Ok. I will try both of those. Thanks for giving me somewhere to start.
[22:35:32] iamlindoro: np
[22:38:40] Jonathan_: iamlindoro. I have tried to set a current recording on a different channel and also no going. (it just stays saying tuning). I have gone into my channels and done a channel scan and now no channels appear. If it is my DVB drivers, how would I either revert to my old ones or get a patch for it?
[22:39:13] ali1234: ok, you press 'd' to delete transponders...
[22:39:14] iamlindoro: If you have done a channel scan and now no channels appear, you *definitely* have a driver issue
[22:39:37] iamlindoro: You can't revert to the old ones, they're tied to the kernal
[22:39:52] iamlindoro: And you'd get a patch by tracking down the issue and writing one
[22:39:56] ali1234: sure you can
[22:40:10] ali1234: just get the old kernel and compile drivers against the new kernel
[22:40:32] ali1234: that's also the only way to track down the issue
[22:40:38] ali1234: whatever it is
[22:41:29] iamlindoro: yes, you can compile the old kernel
[22:41:52] Jonathan_: iamlindoro Why was I getting all my channels before the schema update (that was the update I'm referring to that I assumed was from the frontend. It asked if I wanted to upgrade the schema)
[22:42:14] Jonathan_: would that schema update also updated my drivers?
[22:42:18] iamlindoro: Jonathan_: Can't say-- but can say definitively that no schema update affected your reception
[22:42:33] iamlindoro: no, your drivers are built into your kernel
[22:42:33] ali1234: what card is it?
[22:43:01] Jonathan_: Hauppauge wintv-950q usb
[22:43:41] ali1234: why do i get 25 non conflicting and 134 conflicting dvb channels when i tune, after deleting all channels?
[22:43:59] ali1234: and also deleting all transponders
[22:44:14] ali1234: i checked, and it isn't picking up transponders outside my region
[22:44:53] iamlindoro: could be a number of things, depending on how many channels you expect to receive
[22:45:23] iamlindoro: Since you're in the UK, I'll presume you're scanning DVB-T and not expecting 159 channels
[22:45:39] iamlindoro: In which case you are probably doing a "full scan" and not a tuned scan
[22:45:52] iamlindoro: and the various copies of the network map are stomping on each other
[22:46:30] iamlindoro: Versus giving it the starting frequency of one transponder will probably allow it to pick up a single copy of the transports and may give you what you expect
[22:46:56] ali1234: i check, it only found 6 transponders, which is what i expected
[22:47:00] iamlindoro: Alternately, you could just insert the non-conflicting and that may be fine for you too
[22:47:05] ali1234: then i checked the frequencies and those are all correct too
[22:47:15] iamlindoro: 6 transponders doesn't mean anything
[22:47:20] iamlindoro: Are you doing a full scan or a tuned scan?
[22:47:24] ali1234: a full scan
[22:47:27] iamlindoro: Don't
[22:47:40] ali1234: 6 transponders doesn't mean anything?
[22:47:41] iamlindoro: give it a starting frequency of one transponder in a tuned scan
[22:47:45] iamlindoro: No, it doesn't
[22:47:58] iamlindoro: Each transponder contains the information about the others
[22:48:00] ali1234: can you explain that statement please, because i hae a list of the transponders for my area and which channels they each contain
[22:48:18] iamlindoro: And performing a full scan is picking up multiple versions of that map
[22:48:19] ali1234: and after insertin every duplicate, i have two of every channel
[22:48:29] iamlindoro: Right. So stop scanning the way you're scanning.
[22:48:43] iamlindoro: Provide one transponder's information in a tuned scan.
[22:50:08] ali1234: so why don't i get 6 dupes instead of 2?
[22:50:33] iamlindoro: Can't say, can only say what has been the experience of others in the past
[22:50:44] ali1234: i'm getting the copy from the transponder, plus the 5 copies from the other transponders all get merged?
[22:53:07] ali1234: tuned scan doesn't work
[22:53:36] iamlindoro: can't help you then, good luck
