[00:00:04] sphery: k-man: ah, "Default group filter to apply" in frontend's Playback settings
[00:00:23] sphery: k-man: also, "Always prompt for initial group filter" in same place
[00:00:29] sphery: and, wow, we have way too many settings
[00:00:34] Beirdo: distclean, remake... fun times ;)
[00:00:48] sphery: distclean, ccache -C, remake :)
[00:00:50] sphery: that's more fun
[00:00:55] Beirdo: hehe
[00:01:09] Beirdo: yeah, it's still pretty dang fast on my box though
[00:02:08] k-man: sphery: ah, thats a good idea, thanks
[00:02:13] sphery: ah, yeah, probably little difference whether reading the object code off disk or creating with the compiler for your supercomputer :)
[00:02:29] sphery: for some of us, though, it's a noticeable difference :)
[00:02:37] Beirdo: hehe
[00:02:56] Beirdo: I'm compiling while it's compiling for the buildbot :)
[00:03:18] Beirdo: then I'll put my changes on top of it, compile again
[00:03:28] Beirdo: so I can stress test my changes this evening
[00:03:41] Beirdo: basically, I can't restart the backend from about 6pm until midnight
[00:03:58] Beirdo: boom
[00:05:03] Beirdo: yay
[00:05:27] Beirdo: I expect compile failure imminently
[00:05:32] Beirdo: in the plugins

[01:13:51] Wicked: hmm hello all. i got my motorola fios stb hooked up via firewire and ive been playing around with the channel changer(got it working) and also been testing what channels i can get over firewire...not expecing much. But ive been issuing a channel change then using test-mpeg2 to capture a small file and see if its working. Ive dont ~10 channels but now it seems to have stopped working. I know firewire
[01:13:51] Wicked: can be unreliable...but is there something i can do to get it working again? other then reboot?

[01:53:28] Wicked: yea. channel changing did work...then i was unable to use test-mpeg2...then channel changing stopped working as well
[01:53:34] Wicked: is your channel changing reliable?
[01:53:51] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: Yessir, 100%. ;-)
[01:53:54] Wicked: hmm
[01:54:07] ** J-e-f-f-A probably shouldn't have said that, because it'll probably screw up tonight! ;-) **
[01:54:12] wagnerrp: do they normally do an entire game of jeopardy in one show?
[01:54:12] Wicked: are you using the 6200 channel changing utility written in c that is around?
[01:54:14] Unhelpful: sphery: mythtv reports: MythTV Version  : 0.24 / MythTV Branch  : exported / Network Protocol : 63 / Library API  : 0.24.20101028–1
[01:54:25] wagnerrp: eew... exported
[01:54:31] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: Yes, that's the one I'm using.
[01:54:40] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: I think it's on the wiki now.
[01:54:41] Unhelpful: wagnerrp: yes, but they're doing two games over three days for the watson tournament
[01:54:42] Wicked: yea
[01:54:48] Wicked: thats the one i was using as well
[01:54:50] Unhelpful: and the first day was a *lot* of talk about watson.
[01:54:54] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: as a matter of fact, I *know* it's there, because I updated it. ;-)
[01:55:28] Wicked: bah.. damn my luck. i rebooted to see if that fixed the channel changing for at least tonight...and of course the system now wants to do fsck's at boot because its been 30 times mounted
[01:56:09] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: ouch. Which OS? I haven't seen that on Fedora. ;-)
[01:56:14] Wicked: ubuntu
[01:56:16] Unhelpful: that's what the binary package for arch reports :)
[01:56:18] J-e-f-f-A: Ah.
[01:56:24] Wicked: hmm. now i rebooted..and its still not working
[01:56:30] Wicked: this stinks
[01:56:35] Wicked: i was hoping it would fix it
[01:56:45] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: What changed?
[01:56:50] Wicked: im not sure.
[01:57:00] Wicked: i think the node changed or somthing
[01:57:05] Wicked: it now shows: Could not find Motorola DCT-6200 on the 1394 bus.
[01:57:06] J-e-f-f-A: What did *you* change?  ;-)
[01:57:21] J-e-f-f-A: Did you try powercycling the box?
[01:57:23] Wicked: nothing. i did try a few "primer" scripts that might have done something
[01:57:37] sphery: Unhelpful: hmmm... strange. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you--I'm thinking perhaps you had a 0.23-fixes plugin installed, still--like maybe MythMovies or something?
[01:57:52] J-e-f-f-A: And even a hard-power-off of the box for at least 5–10 secs, then see what happens when you come back on...
[01:57:56] sphery: (or some other old lib that's not used by current?)
[01:58:09] Wicked: ah. if i use 6200ch -v -n 0 and specify the node it seems to change the channel
[01:58:31] Wicked: but that makes me nervous as it seemed to have changed nodes by itself
[01:58:46] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: I have the guids hardcoded in my scripts.
[01:59:03] Unhelpful: sphery: i did a full update before installing. it's working now, aside from lacking a tuner. :/
[01:59:08] Wicked: can you pastebin it for me please J-e-f-f-A
[01:59:26] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: It should be at the bottom of the wiki for the 6200 program. ;-)
[01:59:32] Wicked: oh hmm
[01:59:37] sphery: Unhelpful: did you previously have some other version of mythtv installed?
[01:59:54] Unhelpful: nope, first install on this system.
[02:00:09] Wicked: ah
[02:00:12] Wicked: using the -g
[02:00:24] J-e-f-f-A: Yep, works perfectly

[02:00:44] Unhelpful: nice, silicondust wants $15. i guess known issue means nothing when it happened 2yr ago – long enough they can try to say this is a "normal" failure.
[02:01:13] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: Now once in a blue moon (but not more than once a month or so), one of my receivers will have to be power-cycled, but not very often. My HD-PVRs have to be as well...
[02:01:17] sphery: Unhelpful: hmmm... strange
[02:01:37] J-e-f-f-A: Unhelpful: are you out of warranty?
[02:01:38] Wicked: ah yea. but guid's are constant? or do they change sometimes?
[02:01:47] sphery: maybe it got fixed by some other change in the last 2 weeks.
[02:02:00] J-e-f-f-A: Wicked: I think they're permanent – like a nic card's mac address...
[02:02:04] Wicked: yea
[02:02:08] Wicked: thats what i thought as well
[02:02:13] Unhelpful: J-e-f-f-A: apparently they extended it to two years for what they knew was a bad batch, but yeah i'd still be out.

[02:03:08] Unhelpful: J-e-f-f-A: 12v 2A iirc. i might just look for a universal that can deliver.
[02:03:30] ** Unhelpful wishes we could have a cablecard solution for myth, but clearly that will never be allowed to happen. :/ **
[02:04:00] J-e-f-f-A: Unhelpful: You probably won't find a 'universal' that does 2A (if it's one of those multi-voltage ones – those are only 500 or 600ma usually)
[02:04:07] wagnerrp: i really need more memory...
[02:04:33] J-e-f-f-A: Unhelpful: It exists, but suffers the same problem in Linux as firewire... 'copyfreely' flag...
[02:04:40] Unhelpful: J-e-f-f-A: well, fixed-voltage is fine, as long as i can be sure there'll be a tip that fits.
[02:04:57] J-e-f-f-A: wagnerrp: Hehehe... I just upgraded to 2x what I had (up to 8GB now), overkill, but I like overkill. ;-)

[02:35:50] sphery: It would be nice to start doing them
[02:36:06] sphery: perl bindigns current grab UPnP/MythFrontend/DefaultBackend/USN properly (backend's MediaServer USN)
[02:36:17] sphery: but cheat and use the same UDN for UPnP/UDN/MediaRenderer
[02:36:31] sphery: I'm thinking of modifying them to generate a new UDN for the frontend to use
[02:36:47] sphery: actually... now that I think about it, it's probably better not to specify them
[02:36:59] sphery: I'll just rip out the MediaRenderer part of the config.xml gen in perl bindings
[02:37:10] sphery: the code will generate a UUID dynamically if one isn't specified
[02:37:22] sphery: and if we put it in the config.xml, when users start copying them around, they could get dups

[02:46:17] [R]: if you can't get it on QAM
[02:46:22] Led-Hed: yes
[02:46:22] [R]: you have to capture it from the box

[02:46:49] Led-Hed: is that still an option?

[03:00:42] JEDIDIAH___: life's a b**ch because some people are uptight.
[03:01:10] JEDIDIAH___: 4 cable tuners does seem a bit excessive... but you never know.
[03:01:27] JEDIDIAH___: cable-only channels tend to broadcast stuff more than once.
[03:02:02] wagnerrp: you could watch a lot of sports, you could be recording a bunch of broadcast-once locals
[03:02:18] wagnerrp: maybe you want to use multiple instances of livetv independently
[03:02:32] wagnerrp: (but then we advise against that one)
[03:03:31] Led-Hed: I live in a somewhat rural area, so Antenna only picks up 3 channels worth watching
[03:04:11] Led-Hed: I suppose that would would lessen the number of HDPVR's I need
[03:04:56] JEDIDIAH___: the HDHR is great for stuff like olympics, world cup finals, superbowl, world series.
[03:05:47] JEDIDIAH___: pad the recording heavily and not worry about not being able to record some show on cable.
[03:06:24] Led-Hed: I really like the HDHR. Mine have been great and very easy to setup.
[03:06:47] JEDIDIAH___: yes. the hdhr is most cool. should be more useful than cable companies allow.
[03:07:05] Led-Hed: I'm currently paying nothing for Cable TV, so its gonna hurt when I have to pay $60 for extended basic
[03:08:01] Led-Hed: I have Internet and Phone through Charter, and the HDTV has been broadcast in clear QAM. but that runs out mid March
[03:08:51] [R]: if you were getting cable tv and weren't paying for it
[03:08:53] [R]: that's cable theft
[03:08:54] Led-Hed: I should still be able to get ABC NBC CBS and FOX in Clear QAM
[03:08:57] [R]: that's why they are encrypting the channels
[03:09:53] Led-Hed: [R], I suppose its theft. if someone hands you a $100 and then says you are a theif it would be a hard sell.
[03:10:09] Wicked: [R], if you had bothered to read he clearly stated its clear qam
[03:10:40] Led-Hed: [R], is right in the sense that I'm not paying for TV of any kind
[03:10:45] wagnerrp: Wicked: if you had bothered to read he clearly said hes not paying for cable
[03:11:04] wagnerrp: so while he is technically not getting anything he wouldnt otherwise get over an antenna
[03:11:08] Led-Hed: I am paying for cable. just not the TV part. ;)
[03:11:17] wagnerrp: and no one is really going to care one way or the other
[03:11:31] Led-Hed: wagnerrp, actually Charter was broadcasting Extended Basic in the clear also.
[03:11:36] wagnerrp: its technically improper
[03:11:41] Wicked: as far as i know....getting ota channels is free of cost.
[03:11:49] Led-Hed: its not OTA
[03:11:50] Wicked: and legal
[03:11:54] wagnerrp: with an antenna, yes
[03:12:00] Led-Hed: its over their copper
[03:12:00] wagnerrp: not through a cable
[03:12:05] Wicked: lol really?
[03:12:35] Led-Hed: yes. they were broadcasting extended basic in the clear (for a couple of years now)
[03:12:57] Wicked: i had no idea that if you get clear qam over cable that its not free..even though it is
[03:13:05] [R]: Cable theft is the illegal interception of cable programming services without the express authorization of, or payment to, a cable company.
[03:13:05] Led-Hed: And as long as I have some form of Cable service, the HDHR's have been able to capture the TV broadcasts
[03:13:35] wagnerrp: Wicked: youre only required to get clear QAM if you have digital cable TV
[03:13:52] Led-Hed: sorry didnt meant to start a debate
[03:13:54] Wicked: i see.
[03:14:23] wagnerrp: theres probably something written deep down in some legalese in some contract somewhere that he is not to hook TVs up to the line
[03:14:24] Wicked: i really had no idea. i thought that since they are required to by law broadcast the local channels in the clear that any and everyone was entitled to watch them
[03:14:25] Led-Hed: anyhow. I may not opt for the Extended basic. Though I'll really miss MythBusters.

[03:15:05] Wicked: ya learn something new everyday!
[03:15:08] Led-Hed: :)
[03:15:33] Wicked: yea. i did not know that you needed to be paying for some sort of service.
[03:15:51] wagnerrp: well usually, if youre not paying for service, they clip the line at the pole
[03:16:02] wagnerrp: but in his case, the line needs to be active for phone and internet
[03:16:08] Led-Hed: Funny really. I paid for extended basic for years when it was SD, then when it went HD, I noticed that I got all the channels by scanning with my tv. so I got the HDHR and never looked back.
[03:16:19] wagnerrp: theyre just too cheap to put gap filters to block out the TV channels
[03:16:22] Led-Hed: wagnerrp, correct
[03:16:27] Wicked: ha.
[03:16:44] Led-Hed: actually they did, but it only blocked the SD channels
[03:17:14] wagnerrp: Led-Hed: line filters would mean you couldnt lock the channel at all
[03:17:18] wagnerrp: not that theyre encrypted
[03:17:31] wagnerrp: think old scrambled tv

[03:18:37] wagnerrp: huh... maybe they are providing that stuff for free
[03:19:00] Led-Hed: it was a mistake on their part. Now their fixing it.
[03:20:17] Led-Hed: so the HDPVR is really the only game in town for HD on the myth? (Assuming not clear QAM)
[03:20:40] wagnerrp: for HD capture when digital sources arent an option, yes
[03:20:56] wagnerrp: theres an avertv box and card

[03:21:34] wagnerrp: digital source being firewire capture off an stb, DVB with CI card, or unencrypted digital
[03:21:39] Led-Hed: I had firewire working in the past, but it got real buggy after an upgrade
[03:21:57] Led-Hed: CI?

[03:59:16] biffhero: wagnerrp: I can't straight away answer that, because I don't know from first principles. Many things I have ripped in this manner are played fine by the frontend. I presume you are asking because "myth doesn't play encrypted DVDs" is one of our hurdles. Am I correct?

[17:46:26] sphery: I have to assume there's a reason, just don't know what it may be
[17:46:32] wagnerrp: it would have to follow down any templates that were included
[17:46:51] sphery: yeah, that could be it
[17:48:23] wagnerrp: sphery: in your recordedfile stuff
[17:48:30] wagnerrp: is chanid/starttime a unique key?
[17:48:54] sphery: I got rid of starttime, as you recommended
[17:49:07] sphery: so in recorded, chanid/progstart becomes the unique key
[17:49:19] sphery: but in recordedfile, fileid/chanid/progstart is a unique key
[17:49:28] sphery: then throughout the rest, fileid is
[17:49:50] wagnerrp: so you have code in the schema update that will filter chopped up recordings into separate files?
[17:50:06] sphery: I don't have the schema update, yet
[17:50:18] sphery: but they're already separate files
[17:50:24] sphery: and they're separate entries in recorded
[17:50:58] sphery: and since we have starttime/endtime and progstart/progend in recorded, it will all link up properly
[17:50:58] wagnerrp: im just wondering if this would cause complications... http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/High_Quality_Transcode
[17:51:21] wagnerrp: specifically, the bit at the bottom where it creates a new duplicate entry in recorded, with a different filename
[17:51:49] wagnerrp: certainly that will already cause problems with the markup stuff
[17:52:31] sphery: well, in our current schema chanid/starttime (meaning recstart) are already used as a primary key
[17:52:41] sphery: so if they can force it into the current schema, it should move over
[17:52:57] sphery: if they put in invalid progstart, they'll have duplicate recording entries
[17:53:23] sphery: but that's their mess to fix--since they're poking data directly into the db
[17:53:31] sphery: which has never been supported
[17:54:12] sphery: yeah, $newstarttime is presumably different from starttime
[17:54:23] wagnerrp: doesnt look like it
[17:54:37] sphery: then that script would fail
[17:54:51] sphery: unless they change chanid
[17:54:54] sphery: | recorded | 0 | PRIMARY | 1 | chanid | A | 19 | NULL | NULL | | BTREE | |

[19:24:46] adub: and i know that is for analog
[19:24:55] wagnerrp: v4l is for analog framegrabbers
[19:25:06] adub: ok
[19:25:12] wagnerrp: and while the 1600 can operate as a framegrabber
[19:25:17] wagnerrp: it will not do so on video0
[19:25:20] adub: so even though it doesnt show a card for ivtv mpeg 2 just select it anyway
[19:26:02] wagnerrp: dont know why it wouldnt detect from the 1600
[19:26:12] wagnerrp: it filters by what driver is registering the device
[19:26:26] wagnerrp: but even on 0.23, mythtv should recognize that driver
[19:26:33] adub: ok got ivtv just had to point it to /dev/video0
[19:26:38] wagnerrp: regardless, if it doesnt show up, manually specify the device path
[19:26:39] adub: then it detects
[19:26:55] adub: ya thats what i did specified path we are good there
[19:27:05] adub: so for digital what is the other side i need to specify
[19:27:13] wagnerrp: the digital side is DVB
[19:27:28] adub: ok soo ill add it as dvb i think it autodetecting on that one

[21:25:29] sphery: cool

[21:27:15] sphery: or change lineup on SD site to include only the channels you get, then fetch from grabber, then change lineup to include channels for both video sources
[21:27:23] sphery: those are the only 2 ways

[21:27:53] sphery: yep
[21:28:16] sphery: you edit that lineup, remove the channels you have in your analog video source that you don't get on firewire
[21:28:21] sphery: then you fetch channels
[21:28:33] sphery: then you edit that same lineup, again, and re-add the other channels

[21:53:35] sphery: I think the change accidentally--and for the first time ever--started using symbol visibility on mythplugins
[21:53:46] sphery: Beirdo: ^^^ (about symvis/mythplugins)
[21:54:06] Wicked: sphery, any idea if the sourceid is what i want to sort by? ie...whats associated with what input?
[21:54:12] jpabq (jpabq!~jpabq@67-0-70-230.albq.qwest.net) has quit (Client Quit)
[21:54:25] Wicked: im fairly sure it is. but before i go messing around id like to verify it is
[21:54:34] sphery: sort by?
[21:54:37] sphery: for what?
[21:54:46] Beirdo: hmm?
[21:54:49] Wicked: yes. in mythweb. settings -> tv -> channel info
[21:54:57] sphery: ahhh
[21:55:01] Wicked: so i can mark the channels i dont get via firewire as invisible
[21:55:05] sphery: Wicked: source id is video source ID

[22:12:41] bbeattie: have to stick to mpeg2
[22:13:04] kormoc: or h264
[22:13:27] kormoc: which is the better choice most of the time anyway
[22:15:02] wagnerrp: why would you want to transcode to mpeg4asp anyway?

[22:22:21] sphery: bbeattie: and with 2TB HDDs from $60 – $100, depending on sales, MPEG2 isn't a problem--2TB is enough for at least 300hours of HDTV MPEG-2 (assuming a nice average bitrate of around 14Mbps)

[22:22:46] wagnerrp: more so if you intend to store it long term, and clip commercials
[22:22:47] adub: linux is weird sometime uW removed gstreamer package and i have 3 video devices showing
[22:22:57] wagnerrp: a lossless transcode may save 30%
[22:23:03] adub: video0 video24 and video32
[22:23:16] adub: so gstreamer magically caused it to disappear is my only explaination
[22:23:35] wagnerrp: and on that scale, remuxing to mkv may save a further half GB
[22:24:09] wagnerrp: adub: gstreamer is userland, v4l/ivtv is kernelland
[22:24:21] wagnerrp: i dont know how gstreamer would be able to affect your tuner drivers in any manner
[22:24:29] uW: adub: interesting..it shouldn't have matter right wagnerrp
[22:24:29] ** sphery is drowning in MythUI ignorance **
[22:24:39] wagnerrp: further, video0 is the MPEG2 output, and the only one you should care about
[22:25:05] wagnerrp: 32 is the framegrabber, 24 is... i dont know what
[22:25:17] wagnerrp: then theres additional audio and vbi interfaces
[22:25:30] uW: gstreamer..wow i don't get it

[22:26:21] adub: and i just use the sound in my sound card im assuming
[22:26:31] adub: like my computer sound just isnt working
[22:27:15] uW: try speaker-test
[22:27:58] adub: not hearing anything
[22:28:05] adub: but i know these speakers work with the tv
[22:28:27] uW: how are the speakers connected?
[22:28:32] uW: via the motherboard
[22:28:42] adub: ya they are integreted
[22:29:14] adub: i have a dual channel audio cable from the card to the speakers on the lcd tv
[22:29:17] adub: there is a jack for it
[22:29:34] adub: i also have another set of speakers i have plugged in they typically work as well the speakers
[22:30:32] uW: check alsamixer make sure its not muted

[22:32:30] wagnerrp: what video card?
[22:32:34] adub: but from memory last time i could not get that working either
[22:32:37] adub: its nvidia
[22:33:24] adub: VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GT215 [GeForce GT 240] (re
[22:33:31] wagnerrp: yes, you can use that
[22:33:36] uW: should be fine
[22:33:48] adub: so just use hdmi for audio and video
[22:34:27] uW: if i remember correctly you should see the hdmi audio in the alsamixer (F6)
[22:36:11] uW: adub: are u running mythbuntu..or ubuntu with myth installed

[22:48:23] adub_: this thing is a crap pile hdmi does not work either for the sound
[22:48:35] adub_: now the /dev/video0 and other videos are gone after reboot
[22:48:41] adub_: hdmi sound does not work
[22:48:55] adub_: when i hook a laptop i have upt to the tv and run the sound through it it works fine
[22:49:09] adub_: so i have 20 kinds of problems
[22:49:38] wagnerrp: no, just one
[22:49:39] adub_: also mythbuntu as an OS just wont install the ONLY way i can get linux on here is if i use 10.04
[22:49:46] wagnerrp: by the name of pulseaudio
[22:50:04] adub_: so pulseaudio is screwing even the video up
[22:50:29] adub_: ubuntu 10.10 will not even come close to working as the video drivers are jacked all to hell for my video card
[22:51:01] wagnerrp: its likely the cause of all your audio output problems
[22:51:53] uW: for the video disappearing i'm going with the acpi issues
