[04:24:05] high-rez: Hmmf
[04:24:29] high-rez: Is there a known memory leak in trunk ?
[04:25:08] wagnerrp: do you have evidence of a memory leak in trunk?
[04:27:33] high-rez: wagnerrp: Over time, mythfrontend keeps consuming more memory. I wasn't sure what it was till I added some swap...
[04:28:25] high-rez: I'm upto 619megs on mythfrontend – and it was quite a bit less yesterday...
[04:28:36] high-rez: (it appears linux is just swapping the unused bits)
[04:28:51] wagnerrp: did you seek through a lot of artwork in mythvideo?
[04:28:56] high-rez: Nope
[04:29:13] high-rez: Infact, i haven't used mythvideo at all. LiveTV/Recordings only.
[04:30:21] wagnerrp: what value is 619?
[04:30:37] high-rez: *blink* huh?
[04:30:42] high-rez: Oh
[04:30:50] wagnerrp: where do you see 619?
[04:31:28] high-rez: Virtual. 230 resident.
[04:31:42] wagnerrp: virtual is virtual, not used
[04:31:47] wagnerrp: youre only using 230MB of memory
[04:31:54] wagnerrp: plus whatever you have shared
[04:33:14] wagnerrp: if you actually look at the memory you have listed as 'used' in top, its probably less than the virtual usage of mythfrontend
[04:33:23] wagnerrp: total used, by the entire system
[04:34:42] Beirdo: grrrr
[04:34:51] Beirdo: PBB... "Loading....." nada
[04:36:12] Beirdo: backend went sideways there
[04:36:16] Beirdo: not my night
[04:36:44] high-rez: Hmm.. Yeah, I guess virt doesn't make sense – but resident memory does increase over time.

[04:58:16] wagnerrp: only good for the next couple minutes
[05:00:39] sphery: wagnerrp: heh, does it make a good frontend?
[05:01:01] wagnerrp: yeah, but its limited in what it supports playing
[05:01:16] sphery: yeah, can't expect a lot out of an ion like that
[05:02:12] achew22: what was it?
[05:02:53] wagnerrp: http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=14180

[05:04:48] wagnerrp: woosh
[05:05:43] achew22: Ah
[05:07:19] wagnerrp: every time someone finds a new ION system, they ask in here or on the mailing list, or they cry up to the stars... 'will this make a good mythtv system?'
[05:08:24] achew22: clearly that would be awful since it has no video output. the joke is that it probably would be worthless to myth (although it might be a really crazy awesome hack). I get it (I hope)
[05:08:58] wagnerrp: its a RECORD PLAYER
[05:09:12] wagnerrp: it doesnt run linux, it doesnt play video, it just records off vinyl
[05:09:14] achew22: exactly, it would require a crazy hack
[05:09:18] wagnerrp: but its an ION... so its good for mythtv
[05:11:10] wagnerrp: it wouldnt be a crazy hack either, it would be writing a linux drive, and adding a bit of code to mythmusic to allow ripping off of it
[05:12:05] achew22: to add video out, it would
[05:18:25] wagnerrp: as much of a hack as people putting PCs running MAME inside old NES cases
[05:18:34] sphery: heh, I had a Nova episode that I wasn't interested in watching, so I've kept it for about 2 years. Decided I'd put it on in the background while doing some patching, and found out it was a rerun of one I'd seen, but with the wrong listings info (station changed which aired).
[05:18:54] wagnerrp: oh look, i hacked my NES to run atari games
[05:19:07] sphery: So 2 yrs keeping something for no reason (and I had to delete and allow re-record, so I may end up getting it again later)
[05:19:11] wagnerrp: bathe in my l33t r4dn355

[05:20:59] sphery: atari on NES is madness

[17:07:15] wagnerrp: add that adapter as a DVB card in mythtv-setup, and follow the rest of the documentation from there

[17:07:51] Justin511: What is a DVB card?
[17:08:03] wagnerrp: a card that uses the linux DVB API
[17:08:09] Justin511: Where is that option?

[17:08:24] Justin511: Capture cards?

[17:08:32] wagnerrp: sounds right

[17:09:47] Justin511: How should I set it up then
[17:09:54] wagnerrp: plug it directly into the cable line
[17:10:10] wagnerrp: you can receive whatever comes unencrypted from verizon
[17:10:10] Justin511: Why no box?
[17:10:20] wagnerrp: because that box outputs analog
[17:10:23] Justin511: Oh
[17:10:25] wagnerrp: and that card does not support analog capture
[17:10:34] Justin511: Why did it work in Windows then?
[17:10:55] wagnerrp: because hauppauge wrote the drivers for windows, which did support analog capture
[17:11:05] Justin511: Oh, whats better then?
[17:11:07] wagnerrp: the linux drivers are 3rd party, and only support digital
[17:11:15] Justin511: Digital sounds better
[17:11:33] wagnerrp: however you will only be able to receive those channels verizon broadcasts unencrypted
[17:11:45] Justin511: Oh, what would they be?
[17:12:13] wagnerrp: that depends entirely on verizon... see http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/
[17:12:29] Justin511: Ok
[17:12:50] Justin511: So even though I pay for a ton of channels on my regular Verizon FIos
[17:12:57] Justin511: I only get a few through this?
[17:13:23] wagnerrp: you can only get those that are unencrypted
[17:13:30] wagnerrp: that may be few, that may be many
[17:13:38] wagnerrp: it varies from area to area
[17:13:38] Justin511: Okay I guess I will find out
[17:13:51] Justin511: So I unplug my box and plug the coaxial right into my PC
[17:13:56] wagnerrp: correct
[17:14:13] wagnerrp: if you want to record off the STB, you will need a card that supports analog on linux
[17:14:16] Justin511: Would it be TV/Cable Ant or DTV Ant
[17:14:22] wagnerrp: and preferably one that does mpeg encoding
[17:14:26] Justin511: or S-Video
[17:14:43] Justin511: Oh okay, I don't watch enough TV to be buying another card, it came with PC lol
[17:15:04] Justin511: Right now its in TV/Cable Ant for when I used windows
[17:15:08] Justin511: do I keep it there or move to DTV Ant
[17:15:12] wagnerrp: there is only one coaxial input on that card
[17:15:22] Justin511: ?
[17:15:30] Justin511: Hauppauge Inc. HDPVR-1250 model 1196 (rev 0f)
[17:15:51] wagnerrp: yep, looking at the picture right now

[17:16:19] Justin511: Werid thats not it
[17:16:25] Justin511: Plus my IR Inputs are at the bottom
[17:16:31] Justin511: Of my PC
[17:16:42] wagnerrp: then you must have the MCE version, which is not a model 1196

[17:17:24] Justin511: When I did that thing to find parts thats what came up
[17:17:27] wagnerrp: no, that still only has one coaxial input
[17:17:48] Justin511: Here I will copy and paste the output

[17:18:22] Justin511: But thats the output
[17:18:43] wagnerrp: hahah
[17:18:47] wagnerrp: an HDPVR-1250?
[17:18:50] wagnerrp: theres no such thing
[17:18:57] Justin511: :S
[17:19:05] Justin511: It came built into the PC
[17:19:12] Justin511: would it help if I showed you the PC
[17:19:17] Justin511: I have the link where I bought it
[17:19:19] wagnerrp: the 'HDPVR' is a USB-attached component capture box
[17:19:32] wagnerrp: it is not a tuner, nor does it have a cx23885 chip
[17:19:42] Justin511: Its not USB

[17:20:04] Justin511: Thats where I got it
[17:20:11] Justin511: Altho I have upgraded it since
[17:20:59] Justin511: NTSC TV tuner, over-the-air ATSC high-definition Digital TV tuner, and FM tunerHP Media Center remote control with IR (infrared) receiver

[17:21:48] Justin511: wagnerrp?
[17:22:52] wagnerrp: that actually looks more like this unit... http://hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr1800mckit.html
[17:23:08] Justin511: yeah
[17:23:11] wagnerrp: based off the back of the card seen here... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ImageGallery.as . . . %2c83-107-70

[17:23:33] kormoc: jeeze
[17:23:37] Justin511: LOL
[17:23:45] Justin511: Didn't really work
[17:23:56] kormoc: you have to append both parts of the url together
[17:24:00] Justin511: But I'm looking at the pic
[17:24:05] Justin511: And its exactly the same I think
[17:24:24] wagnerrp: if you have an 1800, then you do have an mpeg encoder, and that card can be used for analog capture
[17:24:37] Justin511: Well how would I check to make sure
[17:24:41] Justin511: B/c it looks exactly the same
[17:24:43] wagnerrp: but there are some outstanding driver issues on that card that prevent mythtv from using analog capture on it
[17:24:49] Justin511: Aw
[17:24:57] wagnerrp: to be honest, i would talk to the #linuxtv guys
[17:25:08] Justin511: Alright, thanks
[17:25:09] wagnerrp: there seems to be something funky going on with the detection of that card
[17:25:23] wagnerrp: as i mentioned, there is no such thing as a HDPVR-1250
[17:25:33] Justin511: Ha then somethings up with my PC
[17:25:39] wagnerrp: and it seems you dont have either an HDPVR or an HVR-1250 anyway
[17:25:47] Justin511: Guess not
[17:26:29] wagnerrp: anyway, on that card, you have separate analog and digital inputs, and an FM input
[17:26:42] Justin511: Yeah
[17:26:46] wagnerrp: you would want to use the one marked 'ATSC/QAM'
[17:26:52] Justin511: FM then TV/Cable then DTV
[17:27:00] Justin511: I have been using TV/Cable
