[00:15:35] ** Beirdo makes an Amazon Fresh order. **
[00:15:58] Beirdo: there. groceries to be delivered tomorrow after work. Muhahah
[00:16:26] wagnerrp: wait.... what...?
[00:16:33] Beirdo: you heard me :)
[00:16:48] Beirdo: Seattle++
[00:16:52] wagnerrp: i thought all those companies died out in the 90s
[00:16:56] wagnerrp: shortly after they opened
[00:16:59] Beirdo: Amazon died?
[00:17:01] Beirdo: heh
[00:17:06] Shadow__X: i think even shoprite had a pilot program with that
[00:17:25] Beirdo: I'm pretty sure they only offer this service in Seattle though
[00:18:20] Beirdo: We currently offer home delivery to a limited number of Seattle neighborhoods in the following zip codes:
[00:18:24] Beirdo: yup :)
[00:19:41] Beirdo: and for the automobile-challenged... :)
[00:21:13] jams: peapod is still delivering groceries. webvan is the one that went under.
[00:23:02] xand: all the major supermarkets do online ordering/delivery here
[00:26:04] Brad-D: that's cool. For some reason i thought they all went out of biz too
[00:26:57] Beirdo: there.
[00:27:05] Beirdo: I just added an AeroPress to my order
[00:27:12] Beirdo: so tired of office crap coffee
[00:29:35] ** sphery thinks #8630 just totally undoes the work markk has been doing on video rendering **
[00:30:16] Beirdo: well, then he might be a good person to judge the quality of it
[00:30:30] Beirdo: he has OSX, no?
[00:31:15] Beirdo: if we are using Qt wrong, it should get fixed if it's affecting stuff
[00:31:17] sphery: don't know for sure
[00:31:32] Beirdo: K. I dunno either :)
[00:32:21] sphery: I think the guy is saying that QTimer's aren't necessarily super reliable for timing (because of the whole sleep/timer accuracy thing)
[00:32:44] Beirdo: yeah, and it seems to be causing issues in his setup
[00:32:54] sphery: but one of the big requirements of the new OSD is that it's drawn in the UI loop, so video rendering has to be drawn in the UI loop
[00:33:16] sphery: so since that's a single thread, we can't create a new one or we leave the UI thread
[00:33:36] Beirdo: ahhh
[00:34:55] sphery: that's my simplified understanding of it all, so I won't be commenting on it
[00:34:58] sphery: I'll let someone else
[00:35:08] Beirdo: yup
[00:35:28] Beirdo: markk/gbee/whoever would know better than I for that stuff for sure
[00:35:30] sphery: unfortunately, though, it's not likely to make Mark happy if my read is right (i.e. "all that work you did--let's undo it")

[00:36:15] Beirdo: and maybe we can look for a better way to fix it, etc.
[00:37:04] Beirdo: wow
[00:37:15] Beirdo: I can get a hard drive with my groceries?!
[00:37:18] Beirdo: Amazon++
[00:37:54] Beirdo: or an iPAQ 111 Classic
[00:38:02] Beirdo: snicker

[00:47:22] sphery: Beirdo: you blew one up, too?
[00:48:06] Beirdo: yeah
[00:48:13] sphery: heh
[00:48:15] Beirdo: my Sempron 2800 is toast
[00:48:24] sphery: I'm thinking it's the mobo on mine
[00:48:46] sphery: I stuck the CPU (a 5050e 45W--one that's too precious to lose) in my dev box and am running on it right now
[00:48:51] sphery: so... I /think/ it works
[00:48:57] Beirdo: I think it's the mobo/ram/cpu... not sure which
[00:49:14] sphery: when I try to boot the mobo in the other system, I get nothing--no video, no video BIOS, no POST...
[00:49:19] sphery: not even a beep
[00:49:45] Beirdo: HEY. You leave my computer alone!
[00:49:48] Beirdo: :)
[00:49:54] Beirdo: mine's the same
[00:50:03] Beirdo: toasty borked...
[00:50:39] sphery: I blew the dust off the CPU HS/Fan and the PSU HS/Fan, then when I plugged it back it, I ran it for a while in console (exploding an image onto the hard drive), then rebooted, started up X, was getting things going, and I smelled something cooking. Didn't think much of it until my computer locked up.
[00:50:55] Beirdo: ah crap
[00:51:04] sphery: can't figure out what would have toasted it...
[00:51:11] sphery: dust getting somewhere it shouldn't?
[00:51:21] sphery: power connector partially unplugged?
[00:51:26] sphery: coincidence?
[00:51:30] Beirdo: we need to get a trebuchet and launch our dead computers at Microsoft HQ
[00:51:37] sphery: heh, yeah
[00:51:48] sphery: Mine just turned 1yr old 2 weeks ago
[00:51:52] Beirdo: wow
[00:51:55] sphery: yeah :(
[00:51:58] Beirdo: mine was... 6–7 years
[00:52:10] Beirdo: so more of a nuisance than anything
[00:52:12] sphery: no visible signs of damage to mobo
[00:52:19] Beirdo: yours still under warranty?
[00:52:23] sphery: I tried a new PSU with the same mobo and had the same result
[00:52:26] Beirdo: or 2 weeks out?
[00:52:49] sphery: 3yr Manufacturer Limited Warrantee for parts and 2yr for Labor
[00:52:55] Beirdo: heheh
[00:52:57] Shadow__X: Beirdo: dont forget about the qt jpeg issue on os x
[00:52:57] Beirdo: worth a try
[00:53:09] sphery: but it was a cheap mobo ($55, but I'd assume there was a $10 to $20 MIR on it)
[00:53:11] Beirdo: Shadow__X: I don't have OS X
[00:53:24] sphery: and buying one new will get me up and running in < 1wk
[00:53:25] Beirdo: well, I DO, but not a machine to run it on
[00:53:30] sphery: trying to do the RMA...
[00:53:38] Beirdo: good luck :)
[00:53:40] Shadow__X: i gotcha
[00:53:44] Beirdo: I'm gonna head home.
[00:53:51] Beirdo: got mythweather to break...
[00:53:55] Beirdo: or mythgallery
[00:53:56] Beirdo: hehe
[00:54:06] sphery: heh, cool
[00:54:08] sphery: later
[00:54:11] Beirdo: mythgallery needs some... breakage.
[00:54:20] sphery: I promise to stop breaking computers if you do, too
[00:54:33] Beirdo: some flickr and picasa breakage, in particular
[00:54:36] sphery: nice
[00:54:48] Beirdo: hehe, I promise to try to stop breaking em.
[00:54:50] sphery: gonna really get some use out of CM's work
[00:55:06] Beirdo: Yeah, I can't wait until that's in there working well
[00:55:19] Beirdo: mythweather can use it, so can the gallery
[00:55:23] Beirdo: big time
[00:55:33] Beirdo: and so can the icon importer
[00:55:34] Brad-D: have any of you guys installed HDpvrs latest firmware update?
[00:55:44] Beirdo: mine's 0x12
[00:55:52] Beirdo: dunno what's latest
[00:56:06] Beirdo: nor have I looked at how to update it :)
[00:56:11] Brad-D: looks like they released a new one 6/23/2010
[00:56:35] Beirdo: fun
[00:56:37] Brad-D: yeahi've been having some problems with my hd-pvr, because my cable provider likes to send audio a little after the video something, and it freaks the hdpvr out
[00:56:42] Brad-D: hope this solves it
[00:56:42] Beirdo: anyways... home :)

[01:40:46] jst: What, my question? Seems like a pretty straight-forward one. :)
[01:40:53] wagnerrp: yes, a 235e should handle ATSC perfectly fine
[01:41:03] Rebecca: so, my myth frontend is going well.. and it's time for me to build a backend.. im thinking on based on an ATHLON II X2 235e/ 2.70Ghz/ 2M/ AM3/ 45W CPU. would this be sufficient for commercial detection in a timely manner?
[01:41:10] Rebecca: ahhh, cool
[01:41:41] wagnerrp: australia.... well thats different
[01:41:56] wagnerrp: it will handle commercial detection of HD mpeg2 in real time just fine
[01:42:10] wagnerrp: HD h264 may not work so well
[01:42:35] wagnerrp: but it should still be relatively fast
[01:42:41] jst (jst!~jst@97.104.103.53) has quit (Quit: Leaving)
[01:42:46] Rebecca: should I be looking at a quadcore for the h264?
[01:43:06] wagnerrp: depends on whether your broadcasters encode with slices

[01:49:22] Rebecca: wagnerrp: okay. interesting
[01:50:10] wagnerrp: that 2.7 A2 X2 should be able to handle maybe... 12mbps CABAC H264 per core
[01:50:16] Rebecca: wagnerrp: so, doing commflagging in realtime is only important if i want to watch a show (and skip commercials) as soon as it's finished recording right?
[01:51:10] Rebecca: if im not in a hurry to watch something after recording, so the backend has ample time to commflag then, realtime isn't critical is it?
[01:51:32] wagnerrp: realtime commercial detection is only important if you want to watch a show as it is recording, and dont want to use the '<num> rightarrow' hotkey to skip manually
[01:52:17] wagnerrp: if you start playback immediately after the recording has finished, the commflagger will probably keep ahead of playback
[01:52:47] Rebecca: ahhhhhh, awesome
[01:53:02] Rebecca: okay, ill give the ATHLON II X2 235e/ 2.70Ghz/ 2M/ AM3/ 45W CPU a truy
[01:53:06] Rebecca: try*
[01:53:14] Rebecca: it's cheap and low power :)

[15:51:00] ** J-e-f-f-A wonders what this has to do with MythTV... **
[15:51:05] degrade: integrated with mythtv... that's why in interested to do this with mythtv
[15:51:25] sphery: Yeah, I'd think you'd want to just use a less-resource-intensive scheduler
[15:51:26] wagnerrp: mythtv was designed as a personal use DVR
[15:51:39] sphery: i.e. if you're always recording 64 channels, use dd
[15:51:43] wagnerrp: it was never intended for the use scenario your talking
[15:51:50] degrade: wagnerrp: Yes, but I've made a professional use of it :)
[15:51:53] wagnerrp: and so we have no experience on how it will function
[15:51:56] wagnerrp: on that scale
[15:52:10] J-e-f-f-A: ie: like a kick-a** teevo, not what you want to use it for...
[15:52:14] sphery: "mythbackend still eats memory" ;)
[15:52:21] degrade: wagnerrp: that's why I'm here... trying to figure out a solution :)
[15:52:27] sphery: dd
[15:52:53] degrade: sphery: May be, the question is, the memory isn`t the problem.

[15:53:07] wagnerrp: well that snapstream will probably go exactly what you want... for a price
[15:53:15] sphery: I'm saying at 64 inputs the scheduler will likely be the problem
[15:53:20] wagnerrp: if you want to adapt mythtv to do it, youve got a lot of work on your hands
[15:53:32] sphery: the question is whether you or the snapstream is more expensive
[15:53:41] sphery: :)
[15:53:57] J-e-f-f-A: ... and it sounds like he doesn't want to record them with Myth, but import clips generated by this 64-camera DVD-quality recording system into MythTV...
[15:54:00] degrade: wagnerrp: lol, the price it's expensive.
[15:54:18] sphery: did you find a price posted?
[15:54:21] sphery: I've been wondering
[15:54:22] degrade: wagnerrp: Mythtv works well for a cheapest price :D

[15:55:01] wagnerrp: they just say 'starting at $12K'
[15:55:07] J-e-f-f-A: ... so you've been paid lots of $$$ to deliver a system, and you figure the free, open-source MythTV is the best use of that $?
[15:55:43] sphery: yeah, likely when you get 64-inputs, it's not $12K times (64 / <4 to 10 tuners>)
[15:55:48] degrade: J-e-f-f-A: Why not?

[15:57:33] degrade: As I told you, I've made a system that works with 8 channels...
[15:57:46] wagnerrp: i wonder where snapstream sources their capture cards, theyre just using -500s
[15:57:54] degrade: It's working for 3 years,
[15:57:59] degrade: without problem
[15:58:32] wagnerrp: degrade: as sphery mentioned, the problem is the scheduler does not scale linearly
[15:58:36] J-e-f-f-A: degrade: so now you want to expand it to 64? And what's mythtv's role again?
[15:58:38] degrade: snapstream sounds good... but Image the price, 6*12k (or more)
[15:58:50] wagnerrp: 8x the tuners is going to consume far more than 8x the power
[15:58:59] sphery: degrade: likely when you go above the base, the price drops per tuner
[15:59:08] degrade: wagnerrp: Yes, but I'm able to record in a separeted way.
[15:59:09] sphery: i.e. you contact them and they give you a proper quote
[15:59:31] sphery: and all scheduling is done by a single system
[15:59:32] degrade: sphery: Hmmm.. yes
[15:59:58] degrade: sphery: I`ll do this
[16:00:00] sphery: (2 are involved if you have MySQL on a separate host)
[16:00:06] degrade: thank you guys, I'm do some research.
[16:00:06] degrade: i'll do.
[16:00:27] degrade: sphery: Yes...
[16:00:38] sphery: degrade: it's not that we're saying we wouldn't appreciate someone with funds helping improve MythTV--mainly that this isn't really what MythTV is designed for
[16:00:50] wagnerrp: they dont give a price for their 50-tuner demo box
[16:00:50] degrade: I'm my actual system it's all separeted, I've made a centralizer
[16:00:57] justinh: wonder why nobody is ever convincing enough when people want to do stuff mythtv isn't suited for
[16:01:01] sphery: and, likely, cron + dd would be a much-lower-resource approach for the do-it-yourself box
[16:01:09] sphery: and infinitely scalable
[16:01:17] justinh: no matter what anybody ever says, no-one is ever convinced :)
[16:01:58] J-e-f-f-A: sphery: Well, I get the impression he's doing recording via another method, then extracting clips that he wants to import into MythVideo... but still...
[16:02:05] sphery: degrade: and for breaking the shows up into pieces, you can do that with dd... just kill one dd and start another at the appropriate times (thus cron)

[16:11:55] johnnyj: sphery: you know they run on smoke
[16:11:57] sphery: johnnyj: I blew the dust out of the system, brought it back in, exploded a HDD image, started X, and smelled something cooking. About a minute later, I realized it was something in the computer that was cooking when my entire system locked up then the mobo died...
[16:11:57] J-e-f-f-A: sphery: I had a hdd do that over the weekend... puff of white/grey smoke came off of the control board, and I thought "That can't be good!"...
[16:12:21] sphery: seems the moral of the story is never take away the dust your CPU heat sink has carefully gathered over the last year
[16:12:28] johnnyj: indeed
[16:12:29] J-e-f-f-A: ... At least it was just one of a 200GB mirror pair, so I didn't lose anything, but *ugh* – that was my OS/DB mirror raid set!!!
[16:13:13] johnnyj: y'all don't know from dust – I live in Texas
[16:13:55] sphery: then while trying to figure out whether I burned up the mobo or the CPU, I swapped CPUs with another system, and seems I bent a pin on one of the CPUs--which resulted in breaking the CPU.
[16:13:58] johnnyj: you have to blow the air duster in one hand and have the vacuum wand in the other...
[16:14:14] justinh: degrade: no unsoliticed PMs please. It's bad IRC manners
[16:14:19] J-e-f-f-A: I've cleaned dust from friend's PC's before and gave them a ziplock baggie full of what was removed... Pretty nasty when the pc was in the home of a couple of chain smokers...
[16:14:36] sphery: moral of that story is don't do CPU swaps when something just blew up because you may get careless
[16:14:49] johnnyj: oh! – reminds me of a recent SATA snafu
[16:14:51] wagnerrp: you couldnt bend the pins back?
[16:14:54] sphery: (bent pin -> broken pin -> broken CPU)
[16:14:58] justinh: degrade: but yes, in public... when you say you're doing something for an employer and want help – it kind of goes against the grain – open source or not

[16:15:57] wagnerrp: 1200?
[16:16:07] J-e-f-f-A: sphery: once I repaired a cpu by carefully soldering a new 'pin' on there... ;-) That was delicate work.

[16:16:20] sid3windr: :)
[16:16:25] justinh: J-e-f-f-A: heh I had to do that on a Sparc CPU once. nasty
[16:16:25] johnnyj: they are serious about the 'Z' in zif socket
[16:16:33] J-e-f-f-A: (think a little spiral on the top of the wire, soldered to what was left of the broken pin.)
[16:16:46] justinh: we didn't use ZIF sockets :-\
[16:17:07] johnnyj: not properly anyway 9-)
[16:17:17] wagnerrp: i dont know whats with all of your weak crap processors

[16:18:04] J-e-f-f-A: The pin that broke was probably aluminum or something, with gold plating... aluminum snaps easy.
[16:18:06] sphery: anyway, the real slap in the face is that newegg had a Regor 250 + pretty nice no-graphics mobo (perfect for mythfrontend box) for $79.99 combo after $20 MIR and had a promo code "MBTEN" for 10% off ($7 off)--making it $72. Of course, when I put the stuff in my cart, the promo worked fine. When I clicked to check out, the "expires June 30" promo code was invalid. They should really say, "Expires sometime on June 30th after 8pm but before midnight ...

[16:21:14] johnnyj: exactly
[16:21:35] J-e-f-f-A: Oh, I guess that's what happens when my box flashes "Skip 3:34"

[16:22:04] J-e-f-f-A: sphery: your 'pause' button is broken?  ;-)
[16:22:10] sphery: if I pause then skip, I might spend too long in the kitchen
[16:22:17] ** J-e-f-f-A laughs **
[16:22:23] johnnyj: i had to start recording Morning Express with Robin Meade since if I didn't Star Trek TNG would end up getting recorded when I wanted to use that tuner
[16:22:32] sphery: come back with a nice slice of freshly-made cheesecake 4 hours later
[16:23:03] johnnyj: which is actually great since I can start recording at 5am and get up at 615 and have plenty of queue'd prog to skip the commercials
[16:23:08] sphery: lol, that's an interesting way of reserving a tuner :)
[16:23:42] sphery: oh, and to make the newegg thing worse... they have a new 10% off mobos code--MBJULY that's for this month
[16:23:52] sphery: but the combo deal isn't valid anymore
[16:23:55] johnnyj: well it actually trained the other half to start expecting to skip commercials and the live tv is getting less and less popular
[16:23:56] sphery: so I can't cancel
[16:24:11] sphery: johnnyj: cool, a success store

[16:25:41] johnnyj: don't you have to subtract what your time is worth on the phone call?
[16:26:48] sphery: heh, not today... I can't do myth dev (my myth dev box is now repurposed until I get the parts), and can't work on the project I was working on, so I won't be accomplishing much.
[16:26:50] ** J-e-f-f-A still doesn't understand what he was building that required 64 channels of DVD-quality recording that could be exported to MythTV... **

[16:28:35] sphery: J-e-f-f-A: I think the company sells information to other companies, like, "Yes, the commercial you paid for aired at 6:23pm and was aired properly without overlays or ..." or maybe sells clips for news stories or whatever so the news channel doesn't have to deal with that part?
[16:29:06] sphery: at least that's what I think the users of that snapstream box do with it

[16:32:47] justinh: J-e-f-f-A: companies can buy *real* video archival machines for the kind of app he was after
[16:33:00] justinh: but they ain't cheap
[16:33:08] sphery: wonder if the BGA is more or less reliable than pins for CPU switching...
[16:33:12] J-e-f-f-A: justinh: I figured as much...
[16:33:32] wagnerrp: sphery: you cant switch chips with BGA connections
[16:33:36] sphery: not a big deal--only the first time I've ever broken a pin since 1990, so...
[16:33:46] wagnerrp: not without thermal blankets and a heat gun
[16:34:41] sphery: I thought they used a BGA design for one of the Intel chips and had some spring-based connection to allow removal/reinsertion
[16:35:11] wagnerrp: BGA, ball grid array... youve got balls of solder on that get soldered onto a contact point on the board
[16:35:17] wagnerrp: its more or less permanent
[16:35:22] wagnerrp: thats what DDR2/3 memory uses
[16:35:29] justinh: consider BGA permanent
[16:35:34] J-e-f-f-A: justinh: yeah, and lots of data too... Heck it's probably 1.5MB/sec per tuner at 720x480 MPEG2...
[16:35:36] wagnerrp: youre thinking of LGA, land grid array
[16:35:51] justinh: for all it can be reworked a couple of times, BGA *is* effectively permanent
[16:35:58] sphery: ah, LGA...
[16:36:20] justinh: had to rework a CCGA chip once. oh boy. never again, I hope
[16:37:11] J-e-f-f-A: There was one company that would retrofit Xbox's with BGA celerons with a socket for a PIII chip IIRC – at 1.2Ghz...

[16:39:12] J-e-f-f-A: (well, for that time period anyways... nowadays forget it with h.264 and mpeg4!!!)
[16:39:44] justinh: xbox could almost play 720P mpeg2 smoothly
[16:39:49] wagnerrp: well for that time period, im sure it would have been cheaper to build that 256MB 1.2GHz P3 than retrofit an old xbox
[16:40:08] justinh: wagnerrp: true, but the xbox is marginally less fugly than a PC
[16:40:18] wagnerrp: thats a matter of opinion
[16:40:27] sphery: when it first came out the XBox hardware was cheap, but by the time they'd cracked it so you could run Linux on it, it was expensive for the hardware.

[16:40:41] wagnerrp: well... i might agree with that

[18:11:56] wagnerrp: high-rez: the 8 and 9 series cards did not have audio hardware that was exposed to the system

[18:12:35] justinh: crap how spdif 'cannot' do better than 5.1
[18:12:36] wagnerrp: the GT2xx and later cards all have built in audio hardware
[18:13:16] ** RyeBrye used spdif headers **
[18:14:01] wagnerrp: and you are outputting audio through the digital output on your sound card, rather than anything that would appear to be on your video card
[18:14:05] high-rez: wagnerrp: oh no kiddin? How about a 210? E.g. I just got the card (9500 GT) and can exchange it for a 210...
[18:14:55] wagnerrp: the 210 will actually appear as a sound card, provided you have sufficiently recent ALSA drivers
[18:15:04] high-rez: I don't think I have SPDIF headers on my mobo – so its a no go :( I saw there was a cable for this with the video card.

[18:15:22] wagnerrp: high-rez: i would bet you actually do
[18:15:52] wagnerrp: what motherboard do you have?
[18:16:19] high-rez: wagnerrp: If I do have a SPDIF header (I'll look again) – is there any advantage to the pure HDMI solution ? E.g. can the SPDIF headers carry bluray audio etc ?
[18:16:32] wagnerrp: yes, no
[18:16:58] wagnerrp: you should have a 9-pin HDaudio connector on your botherboard
[18:17:04] wagnerrp: which will include SPDIF
[18:17:19] high-rez: I see. Ok I probably do have that.
[18:17:57] high-rez: But the HDMI on the 210 can carry higher bitrate audio (e.g. 7.1 dts eac3 etc for bluray?)
[18:18:16] wagnerrp: the 210 provides true HDMI audio
[18:18:22] wagnerrp: the older cards only support SPDIF
[18:18:29] wagnerrp: which is limited to 2mbps
[18:18:33] high-rez: Hmm. ok.
[18:18:43] wagnerrp: which means it can handle AC3, DTS, and 2-channel LPCM
[18:18:50] high-rez: I see.
[18:18:58] high-rez: I think I'll just exchange it for a 210 at frys then.
[18:19:14] wagnerrp: not that the 9500 is a more powerful card than the 210
[18:19:19] wagnerrp: s/not/note/
[18:19:49] high-rez: Right, thats what put me over the top with the 9500 – that it coudl do 2x advanced

[18:32:33] mindjuju: is that right?
[18:32:44] mindjuju: if so, is there an IR blaster that is compatible that I can use?

[18:39:36] J-e-f-f-A: mindjuju: if you've got a hardware serial port, then a simple blaster would probably work – if not, a Microsoft Media Center remote receiver has IR blasters that work well... Search flebay for "MCE RC6" for the best matches...

[18:45:21] mindjuju: i'm sorry, i'm still very noobish on this stuff

[18:46:43] J-e-f-f-A: mindjuju: plus the IR 'eyes' that plug into the back of it...
[18:47:42] J-e-f-f-A: mindjuju: the two cables coiled up on each side of the 'black box' (receiver) are the IR emitters... http://www.redplanettrading.com/ebay/remotes/ . . . view_800.jpg

[22:42:20] caelor: sphery: yes. It's just interesting that it took a lot longer to get into the deadlock state, and basically identically fitted the bug report this time. I wonder if my original problem was a composite of 2 problems.
[22:42:27] caelor: sphery: MyISAM
[22:42:58] caelor: with the exception of weatherdatalayout, weatherscreens and weathersourcesettings which report as InnoDB

[22:43:20] sphery: (and, yeah, MythWeather only supports InnoDB)
[22:43:53] caelor: yeah, it should be stock mythbuntu, although installed from vanilla ubuntu server.
[22:44:29] sphery: you're not in the US, I suppose (since you're using EIT)?
[22:45:33] caelor: indeed, in the UK. MBE has a Nova-T 500 recording DVB-T (Freeview), and SBE has a kworld DVB-S card (FreeSat)
[22:46:44] caelor: up until recently, I just had the MBE with Freeview, and was running trunk. Had the dish installed, set up the SBE and started seeing these issues, so archived up recordings (Mytharchive native), removed all myth, and reinstalled with 0.23-fixes.
[22:46:45] sphery: was wondering if you could test stability without the EIT... don't know if that's possible.
[22:47:07] sphery: and still have issues on -fixes?
[22:47:11] caelor: yes
[22:47:29] sphery: do you have EIT collection disabled on the remote/slave backend?
[22:47:37] caelor: i'd originally put it down to the risk of running trunk, but figured it was more likely config when it persisted on -fixes
[22:47:41] sphery: if not, perhaps you could (don't we allow that per-tuner?)
[22:47:51] caelor: passive EIT on both MBE and SBE
[22:48:15] sphery: might be worth turning it off on the SBE and see if it's more reliable that way
[22:48:45] sphery: assuming the MBE would be able to pull EIT data for the channels used by the SBE (i.e. has all sources available to it, too)
[22:48:52] caelor: will give that a try. If it does address the issue, will have to find some other way of getting listings for the sat channels that aren't common between both sources
[22:49:23] sphery: can't swap around capture devices so that the MBE has devices hooked to both video sources?
[22:49:51] caelor: physical location makes that kind of impractical (without adversely affecting the WAF, at least)
[22:50:42] sphery: :(
[22:50:45] caelor: (sat cables into the living room, so SBE is int there, and always on boxes aren't especially welcome)
[22:51:12] sphery: well, if it's possible to try it with the SBE's EIT disabled for a bit to see if that makes it stable, it would be a very interesting data point
[22:51:29] sphery: don't know how important those sat channels are to you
[22:52:19] caelor: I'll try disabling the EIT on the video source for the SBE
[22:52:30] caelor: it currently has 8 days of data, so it should be fine for a few days
[22:54:02] caelor: will maybe also try setting up the RadioTimes xmltv grabber, although last time I tried that (back in the 0.18 days) it was a lot of work
