Other players automatically load those subs, but mythtv does not. I changed that for me, but I don't know if thats actually wanted
[00:58:44] Thom-: thats why i asked if theres a plattform for such discussions
[00:59:32] iamlindoro: Thom-Player loads srts for files with brackets in them fine here

[01:02:48] iamlindoro: Think you were told earlier today that discussion of downloaded material is off limits in this channel and in this community
[01:04:04] Thom-: i don't discuss the material
[01:04:08] Thom-: did i?
[01:04:18] Thom-: i discussed the [] problem
[01:04:25] Dagmar: We can't and won't help with anything related to warezd material
[01:04:27] Thom-: maybe its related to the filename
[01:05:12] Thom-: oh i can buy the series in the usa
[01:05:23] Thom-: but no german subs will be on the dvd
[01:05:28] Thom-: i have to download them
[01:05:32] Thom-: if i want to use subs
[01:05:40] Dagmar: Do I look like a f**king moron?
[01:05:46] iamlindoro: Thom-, Last warning
[01:05:53] iamlindoro: that's not a "bought legitimately" filename
[01:06:36] iamlindoro: And what's more, I just renamed a (legit, not stolen) filename to the one above, and it and the subtitle loaded FINE
[01:06:46] Thom-: would you feel better, if i call it Sarahs.Wedding.Day01.Admission[5].avi
[01:06:47] iamlindoro: so yes, it's related to you being a thief, and we don't want to help you here
[01:07:00] iamlindoro: It wouldn't matter, since I told you, it's not the filename that's the problem.
[01:07:03] iamlindoro: It's the fact that you're a thief
[01:07:05] iamlindoro: so go away

[01:09:42] Thom-: but whatever, i tried other files
[01:09:48] Thom-: still doesn't work
[01:09:51] iamlindoro: Thom-, please listen carefully
[01:10:04] iamlindoro: I took a legitimately ripped file, renamed it as per your example above
[01:10:14] iamlindoro: it played fine, as did the subtitle I renamed to match your example above
[01:10:22] [R]: Thom-: just because you can't legally do something, doesn't mean you can do it illegally...
[01:10:38] iamlindoro: in addition to that, if you cannot legally obtain something, you are expected to WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT
[01:10:52] iamlindoro: not being able to purchase it is NOT an excuse for stealing it
[01:11:03] iamlindoro: so very last warning, stop this discussion, completely, or face a ban
[01:11:14] Thom-: i didn't start that discussion

[01:27:45] dserban: rather a p3/500 gah... I've looked at roku stuff.. but it wouldn't fit/work with myth
[01:28:23] Dagmar: iamlindoro: Did someone order a full moon early
[01:28:44] iamlindoro: evidently
[01:29:17] dserban: :o
[01:29:27] Dagmar: Some guy got all pissy just now in another channel because the subject of large neod magnets came up, and I surmised that this monster with 363 lb pull on it might well be able to trip traffic sensors on my scooter
[01:29:29] Dagmar: It was sarcasm
[01:29:44] Dagmar: Good lord it would, and would probably pick up manhole cover or two
[01:29:46] dserban: lol!
[01:29:57] Dagmar: This kid wanted to insist that it doesn't actually work
[01:30:12] dserban: On traffic lights? 'course it would.
[01:30:30] Dagmar: He got all pissy about it because I insisted that yes indeed it does work, and that I'm not just speaking from theory, I drive a 250lb scooter so I actually HAVE to stick a magnet in my shoe

[01:31:00] dserban: what kinda scooter?
[01:31:16] Dagmar: He actually went googling around to find people saying it didn't work to argue that I might possibly be wrong
[01:31:24] Dagmar: Kymco Agility 125
[01:31:38] Dagmar: I'm like, "I'm not talking about theory, man!"
[01:31:44] dserban: Oh, I looked at a Kymco, does it have those heat vents at the front for your legs?
[01:31:51] Dagmar: Heat vents?
[01:31:52] Dagmar: Hah
[01:32:09] Dagmar: I'm not sure I've even heard of a scooter with heaters
[01:32:14] Dagmar: They're basically open-air.
[01:32:21] dserban: Yeah, I rode one for a while, but I had to get rid of it... all highway driving to work and people got pissy at me holding up traffic.
[01:32:22] XLV: real men dont need heat vents
[01:32:27] Dagmar: The bit in front is basically to keep the wind off your knees
[01:32:44] Dagmar: dserban: You musta been on a 50cc one then
[01:33:03] Dagmar: Mine'll do 65mph, not that I bother since I'm just driving surface streets with it
[01:33:05] dserban: Dagmar: yeah I know, but I looked at one last year with heaters ... basically, it's the radiator and you get the added benefit of having hot air blasted on your knees
[01:33:17] XLV: Dagmar, kymco released a 150cc one recently, with diskbrakes on rear wheel too
[01:33:28] XLV: nice price too, 1800 euro here
[01:33:33] Dagmar: Yeah, that would involve a different class of licence
[01:33:57] Dagmar: 125cc and below you don't have to bother with a motorcycle endorsement on your licence
[01:33:58] dserban: yeah, i gave up on the search, insurance was a B**ch to get
[01:34:03] Dagmar: Geico.
[01:34:10] dserban: different in canada :(
[01:34:12] Thom-: ok strange – i tried a neutral file with a [ and it didn't work in mythtv neither in vlc. If i choose the subfile in vlc manually it works. Maybe the problem is mythbuntu related.. or vlc uses the same algorithm like mythtv
[01:34:14] Dagmar: I'm like payin $113 a year or something
[01:35:09] dserban: Seriously? I was looking at a 250 and I have a 16 year clean driving record... 3 grand because It'd be my first year with a motorcycle license
[01:35:11] wagnerrp: man, how did 20 minutes of this FUSE crap turn into several hours...
[01:35:41] Dagmar: dserban: Freaky. Were you including THEFT insurance tho?
[01:35:42] dserban: Thom-: seriously bro, give it up.
[01:35:58] Dagmar: around here that _easily_ makes it prohibitively expensive for new scooters
[01:36:01] dserban: hmm I don't remember, I was basically matching what I had on my car
[01:36:10] dserban: the insurance was almost more than the scooter
[01:36:17] Dagmar: Hilbillies like to snatch them and pop them in the back of their trucks/vans
[01:36:30] Dagmar: Sounds like you were getting a quote that involved theft insurance
[01:36:33] Thom-: whatever, just tried to contribute my part to the project.
[01:36:41] Dagmar: Thom-: Bullshit
[01:36:51] Dagmar: You want it to work with warez.
[01:36:56] dserban: probably, I honestly don't remember.
[01:36:57] Dagmar: We rather DON'T want it to work with warez.
[01:37:00] Thom-: why? it works for me now
[01:37:17] wagnerrp: we want to have no involvement in such matters
[01:37:43] wagnerrp: people already think were a bunch of pirates
[01:37:43] Dagmar: because the more of you IDIOTS there are around who have no problems telling strangers "HEY I PIRATE MEDIA AND I USE MYTHTV TO SEE IT" the higher the chances are the project will get sued
[01:37:45] Thom-: wtf? So a working subtitle finding system is a warez only related problem?
[01:39:27] Dagmar: When a tool's predominant use becomes to faciliate criminal acts, it _loses_ it's protected status as a tool
[01:39:36] Thom-: i understand that thats a sensitive topic, but I don't know somehow in germany watching us tv shows is not such a big deal
[01:40:29] Thom-: only a few people like the shows in english and we've build a huge subtitle community
[01:40:37] Dagmar: Oh, did Germany finally repeal those pesky intellectual property laws?
[01:40:41] dserban: wow, I just deleted my long spiel, someone else can smite you.
[01:40:52] Dagmar: Here I was thinking people were getting pissed at Rapidshare for handing over downloader records for nothing
[01:41:19] Dagmar: ...and you can stop running your mouth about the subtitles.
[01:41:42] Dagmar: You showed us the filename that would mean you think we're freaking IDIOTS if we can't tell from looking at it that your avi file is warez'd
[01:42:09] dserban: hah, myth should have logic to refuse to play it based on filename :P
[01:42:11] Thom-: you HAVE to get those files if you want to get subs for us tv shows
[01:42:19] Dagmar: No. You don't.
[01:42:37] [R]: dserban: seeing as its open source... that woudln't really do much
[01:42:38] Dagmar: So yeah, just keep insulting our intelligence with these claims
[01:42:53] Dagmar: [R]: Note the number of people who are paralyzed by this
[01:42:57] [R]: lol
[01:43:01] Dagmar: It actually _would_ hinder a lot of them
[01:43:56] dserban: Yep, and you could roll back the diffs when things get patched :P
[01:44:05] dserban: Or just remove write access from svn
[01:44:11] Dagmar: If you made the least bit attempt at obfuscation, the average user being about as bright as a squirrel, would have no way to stop it
[01:44:44] dserban: Dagmar: then that would involve compiling the source etc etc... so much hassle
[01:45:15] Dagmar: Yep.
[01:45:53] wagnerrp: well mythvideo already fails to parse the names properly
[01:45:57] Dagmar: The benefits of piracy should be reserved and limited to the dedicated few who understand discretion, moderation, and that you DO actually have to spend some money to keep that economy going
[01:46:25] Dagmar: ...not just any asshole who can click on a torrent link and squeal appropriately when the inevitable shakedown letter comes from shady lawyers.
[01:46:41] Dagmar: Piracy _encourages_ racketeering like that.
[01:47:23] Thom-: thats funny, cause if you'd knew the german subtitle community you would know, that almost everyone has a huge regal proudly filled with our loved tv shows
[01:47:42] Dagmar: ...and probably hard drives filled to choking with things you didn't buy.
[01:48:25] wagnerrp: if youre subtitling off the DVD videos, theyre all going to be of the same length and cut, and subtitles will work just fine on everyone's personal rip
[01:48:43] Dagmar: Exactly.
[01:48:52] dserban: heh, security by obscurity, I like it!
[01:49:18] dserban: My CEO seems to think that's the ultimate answer when writing/designing software
[01:49:41] wagnerrp: dserban: theres 'obscurity' and then theres just not proclaiming 'i downloaded these files' to the internets
[01:49:47] Dagmar: It's not like someone's DVD ripper is going to be running slightly slow one day

[01:50:05] Thom-: yeah but no one does that – you have to wait a whole year for the next lost season... the subbers do that one day after the show is aired
[01:50:20] iamlindoro: GreyFoxx, jams, ping?
[01:50:25] Thom-: the subs are mostly so bad, that the user created ones are way better
[01:50:39] Dagmar: Ah yes so there's no point in trying to subscribe to the channels they're aired on
[01:50:42] Dagmar: None at all
[01:50:48] Thom-: you can't?
[01:50:50] Thom-: how?
[01:50:54] Dagmar: Obviously you can't
[01:51:01] Thom-: yes it's not possible
[01:51:15] Thom-: i tried to get hbo
[01:51:17] Thom-: no chance
[01:51:21] Dagmar: ...or you wouldn't still eb running your mouth about how you didn't actually pirate that video and we're all freaking morons
[01:52:13] Thom-: no you're just juging people you don't know, from other countrys where the morallity related to the us tv shows is very different to the us
[01:52:22] orogor (orogor!n=orogor@82.227.229.118) has quit ("Leaving")
[01:52:28] Dagmar: Seeing also as how you clearly speak English quite well, I really find the argument that you might _need_ subtitles in German to be even more questionable
[01:52:37] Dagmar: Ah now it's a morality issue
[01:52:39] Thom-: oh i do not anymore
[01:52:43] Thom-: i learned english
[01:52:44] Thom-: with the subs
[01:52:49] iamlindoro: xris, Dibblah, etc? Available for a ban?
[01:52:53] Dagmar: Screw the legal issues, it's only the localized version of morality that matters.
[01:52:54] Thom-: it's the best way
[01:53:00] Dagmar: How about we talk about that morality
[01:53:06] Dagmar: How many jews you guys got left?
[01:53:11] Thom-: hah you funny

[04:56:28] sphery: yeah, that happens in a broken theme when there are no previews
[04:56:42] sphery: er, no recordings in the list
[04:56:50] sphery: (my fingers don't know what they're typing)
[04:57:00] jblack: I have previews for the most recent shows
[04:57:01] clever: yep i get the same thing
[04:57:10] sphery: once you get recordings, that gets replaced with real info
[04:57:15] clever: the backend also sometimes falsely reports no recordings and causes the same thign
[04:57:16] sphery: but it's unrelated to the issue at hand
[04:57:20] jblack: scrolling up and down all programs isn't so bad, an about as expected. switching bteween groups, is very painful
[04:57:37] sphery: backend saying no recordings is really a socket error, which would show up in logs
[04:57:47] jblack: I don't even want previews. I don't know why they're showing, as I turned them off in the menu
[04:58:00] sphery: you can't turn them off in the menus--never could
[04:58:10] sphery: you could turn off live previews, but they don't exist in 0.22
[04:58:14] jblack: The little static picture? Yes, I had them off.
[04:58:24] jblack: in 0.21, at any rate
[04:58:44] Captain_Murdoch: you turned off the live preview settings (ie, the video setting). 0.22 only supports the preview image and you can't turn that off.
[04:58:49] sphery: yeah, in mythui'ed playback box, you couldn't
[04:59:29] sphery: you could turn off the live video (at least for a while--I think the setting is still there), but it's not hooked to anything

[05:01:19] jblack: I'll stop autofs
[05:01:38] jblack: ok, with nfs unmounted, "%|"SUBTITLE|"% %STARS% %DESCRIPTION
[05:01:41] jblack: and it's still there
[05:02:08] jblack: ok, it finished. I'd say about 30–45 seconds of that

[05:08:10] jblack: Oh, here's something.. the drive is going crazy.
[05:09:07] jblack: oh, never mind that
[05:15:10] sphery: jblack: I'd guess that means that your frontend is regenerating previews every time because it and your backend disagree on time for some reason
[05:16:37] jblack: or it might still be trying to generate previews?
[05:16:56] sphery: does the time that the backend status page shows ( http://backendhost:6544/ --the time is in the title, which should be in the title bar of the browser) agree with the time the frontend program shows on screen
[05:17:00] jblack: I have well over 1000 tv shows
[05:17:08] sphery: it's possible that's it
[05:17:24] jblack: like I mentioend, I run ntp, and they're synced.
[05:17:36] sphery: if all your previews were invalid (from copying/bad timestamps), then they'd all need regenerating
[05:17:42] sphery: still, it's the process that's important
[05:17:56] sphery: thus why I wanted you to look at the backend status page (backend time) and the frontend screen (frontend time)
[05:19:02] jblack: switching between groups is painful. i.e. from 20/20 to 60 minutes
[05:19:10] jblack: but scrolling up and down in all programs seems ok
[05:22:57] jblack: i'll poke at it for a few days and figure out a sane pattern.
[05:23:06] jblack: that'll make diagnosis much easier

[05:48:57] sphery: in which case, you'd learn the hard way to look for that something next time :)
[05:49:32] czth: is there any reason why in my replacement for the tmdb.pl script, i couldn't pop up UI to ask the user to choose a movie poster to use?
[05:49:51] wagnerrp: you didnt follow the proper grabber syntax
[05:49:56] czth: would X or mythfrontend get angsty about it?
[05:50:08] wagnerrp: why are you writing your own replacement?
[05:50:12] sphery: the grabber should send back info to MythVideo, then MythVideo will pop up the dialog
[05:50:28] czth: for one thing, to be able to pick a poster i like. for another, because sometimes i use different naming conventions.
[05:50:32] sphery: yeah, tmdb.pl is internation, so why do you need another
[05:50:57] czth: for a third, i want to do some syncing up with my own db
[05:51:00] sphery: stolenfilenameparser.pl?
[05:51:07] czth: nothing of the sort
[05:51:28] sphery: anyway, you just set the title appropriately in MythVideo before searching and all works

[05:51:51] wagnerrp: it just makes its own choice
[05:52:17] wagnerrp: you *should* be able to pop up a selection dialog to do so
[05:52:22] czth: right, but i'd like to prompt for it. tmdb.pl picks the first poster now I believe.
[05:52:26] wagnerrp: but it will have to be completely independent of myth
[05:52:40] czth: sure, i'd just return back the one the user chose. myth need have no idea.
[05:52:46] wagnerrp: so you have to be running a window manager for focus to work properly
[05:52:57] wagnerrp: and you may have to manually set the DISPLAY
[05:53:00] czth: i am, i have a NES emulator that needed it a while back
[05:53:09] wagnerrp: i dont know how much of the environment mythvideo sends to it
[05:53:59] czth: as long as it's not a hopeless endeavor. :). i'm sure there are plenty of existing image pickers i could use from py/pl.

[15:59:55] trumee: oh, i do need the subtitles.
[16:00:14] wagnerrp: the internal player at current does not support packaged mkv subtitles
[16:00:25] wagnerrp: but you can split it out to a .srt file if you need them
[16:00:30] trumee: also, is it possible to convert from dvd (mpg2) to mkv and and back to dvd.
[16:00:47] justinh: why? L-O

[16:00:57] trumee: *player
[16:01:00] wagnerrp: understand that makemkv will almost certainly not copy the dvd subtitles to mkv in a usable form
[16:01:11] wagnerrp: AFAIK, mkv only supports text-based subtitles

[16:01:47] justinh: muh, but the rental shop wants them back! :-O

[16:02:34] wagnerrp: well i dont know what it does off hand, but mythtv does not understand mkv subtitles
[16:02:44] wagnerrp: although honestly, i have no idea why it bothers remuxing to mkv

[16:03:45] wagnerrp: same title, different extension
[16:04:02] justinh: one thing some people can't stand is playing dvds in the original quality they came in – so to get around it they transcode the original dvd to some lossy format, then back to dvd again
[16:04:17] trumee: and the same srt file will have all the different languages in it?
[16:04:23] justinh: probably not
[16:04:30] justinh: stupid foreign films
[16:04:49] wagnerrp: nope, just one language, timestamped to the movie
[16:05:00] wagnerrp: mplayer will NOT generate a srt
[16:05:14] wagnerrp: if it does have subtitles, its somehow just using the image-based ones
[16:05:25] justinh: you totally need OCR to generate SRTs from DVD subs
[16:05:35] wagnerrp: totally
[16:05:38] justinh: cos they're bitmap sequences
[16:06:03] justinh: and it wouldn't be what you could call totally automagical either knowing how reliable OCR is
[16:06:37] trumee: uggh! that is not good then. mplayer can show various subtitle languages.
[16:06:44] justinh: so can mythtv
[16:06:58] trumee: this article says one can get .srt from dvd using mplayer, http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Ripping_DVD_to_Matroska_and_H.264
[16:07:12] justinh: that article is wrong
[16:07:53] wagnerrp: you MUST run OCR on the dvd subs, and mplayer will not do that

[16:09:03] justinh: or you could just install handbrake
[16:09:33] wagnerrp: mount the image, and do a proper transcode
[16:10:03] justinh: or get more storage & just keep the whole ISO
[16:10:08] trumee: ok, so with mythvideo and mkv, i can only have one srt file. But what about menus, can mkv store all the menu information which mythvideo can display. my goal here is keep maximum information but change from .iso to mkv so that i can use Storage Groups.

[16:16:56] iamlindoro: no
[16:17:01] wagnerrp: i thought i recalled a bunch of people complaining that there was no mkv subtitle support back in the 0.22 dev cycle

[16:17:12] iamlindoro: stoth, correct
[16:17:24] stoth: yet it stops and starts the encoder between channel changes.
[16:17:47] trumee: so mkv is not a good file format to retain menus. too bad.
[16:17:59] iamlindoro: stoth, right, does so to create a new recording file for each channel change
[16:18:12] stoth: Oh, that's the only reason?
[16:18:37] iamlindoro: stoth, presumably also to account for the fact that we also allow different video and audio settings per channel too
[16:18:45] stoth: I'm also finding that the app is calling for 480x480 resolution and 32000khz audio. I'm wondering why?
[16:19:06] iamlindoro: stoth, That's the default recording profile, you're meant to change it

[23:56:41] Led-Hed: When I scan for Digital channels on my HDTV, it finds them on 74–1, 101–5, etc... I cant find a linup on Schedules Direct that match the subchannels. What can I do?
[23:57:23] Led-Hed: They are Cable subchannels (clear QAM), not OTA
[23:57:34] mchou: Led-Hed: your question doesn't even mke sense
[23:57:37] mchou: make*
[23:57:55] Led-Hed: ok, what doesnt make sense about it, I will clairify
[23:58:02] mchou: if you're saying SD doesnt have your local lineup, complain to SD
[23:58:24] Led-Hed: they have the Cable Co's HD Lineup
[23:58:38] mchou: cause SD better have at least 90% of the subchannels
[23:58:57] Led-Hed: only the Cable Co maps the Subchannels, for example. 761 maps to 74–1
[23:59:02] mchou: sigh
[23:59:28] mchou: Led-Hed: put you brain on for just one minute
[23:59:34] Led-Hed: lol
[23:59:43] mchou: perhaps the subchas arent HD
[23:59:50] Led-Hed: they are
[23:59:54] mchou: subchans*
