[02:30:49] rkjnsn: Okay. I seem to have run into a problem with MythMusic. I have a CD that matches exactly two CDs on the freedb server I am using (actually the MusicBrainz freedb proxy). The problem is that unlike my desktop ripping program, which prompts me to select which match is correct, MythMusic just picks one, which is, in this case, the wrong one. Is there any way to select the other entry?

[02:44:47] oktiv: good day everyone, i have an issue with my first mythbuntu install. I've looked through miles of topics and can't seem to find an answer. also it's been almost a decade since i've been on irc so please excuse me if i goof on the etiquette.
[02:45:29] oktiv: livetv works once per frontend session, 2nd time only sound with a pvr-150. on first boot, all is well. live tv works and and sound is fine. i can browse the guide and change channels. i can watch a recorded program. but i can only do one of these per frontend session.
[02:45:29] oktiv: if i go to livetv then back to the main menu then back to livetv, there is no video only sound.
[02:45:29] oktiv: i have to exit the frontend application and restart the frontend application (not the machine).
[02:45:30] oktiv: if i go to recorded programs i can watch one but not a second one. restart the application...
[02:45:30] oktiv: basically whenever it goes to the gui, things get wonky.

[02:48:52] wagnerrp: so this is a playback issue, the actual recorded files play fine in another application?
[02:49:07] oktiv: like i said, about a decade. i beg forgivness and promise never to do it again. ever
[02:49:36] wagnerrp: no need to be so serious
[02:50:00] wagnerrp: and besides, my (non-op) opinion makes no difference... :P

[02:51:23] android60: What in the channel table does mythtv use to tune the channel, the freqid?
[02:52:00] wagnerrp: i mean can you go to your recordings directory, and play the livetv recordings with mplayer?
[02:52:14] wagnerrp: android60: analog or digital?
[02:52:22] android60: wagnerrp: digital
[02:53:07] wagnerrp: mplexid and serviceid
[02:53:54] oktiv: analog cable, the recordings are fine, but again only once. then i have to close the frontend (not shud down) and then start the application again. mplexid & serviceid?
[02:54:01] oktiv: and thanks
[02:54:21] wagnerrp: oktiv: talking to android60
[02:55:37] android60: wagnerrp: so if its null thats bad then right? and also, should analog channels have null mplexid and serviceid
[02:56:03] wagnerrp: android60: digital channels need those two to tune, analog channels need neither
[02:56:14] android60: ok
[02:56:24] wagnerrp: oktiv: go to your recordings directory, check your livetv recordings with mplayer, see if they all play with video

[03:01:27] oktiv: member:wagnerrp: is ther an easy way to put your name in the text or is a copy/paste best? the recorded live tv videos are fine, mpg files. all video and audio are fine for all of them. there is an error though "A0: [pulse] Failed to connect to server: Internal error"

[03:35:12] wagnerrp: if you leave livetv, you cannot return
[03:35:22] wagnerrp: you can hit 'r' before you leave, to turn it into a recording
[03:35:28] oktiv: do you think it's possible?
[03:35:33] wagnerrp: but then you have to go into recordings in the media library
[03:35:51] wagnerrp: and continue to watch the recording in-progress
[03:36:30] oktiv: maybe in the future. i like your thinking. I should email you a bobcat
[03:37:00] wagnerrp: probably not, few (if any) of the devs use livetv
[03:37:03] [R]: wtf, this is the 2nd show i've watchend vdpau is acting perfectly
[03:37:06] RyeBrye: I've wanted the frontend buffering livetv when the gui is up for a long time... but I gave up a long time ago and just never use livetv on myth
[03:37:50] wagnerrp: it probably wouldnt be all that difficult to have an alternate 'escape' that leaves the livetv running
[03:38:12] wagnerrp: and have a popup when you first start up livetv, to allow you to connect to an in-progress session
[03:38:14] RyeBrye: yeah, makes sense
[03:38:43] oktiv: so most all of the "power users" just use myth to time shift their tv watching
[03:38:55] RyeBrye: yep
[03:38:59] wagnerrp: you could even allow multiple frontends on one viewing session
[03:39:10] wagnerrp: but that could get difficult when one party decided to change channels
[03:39:16] RyeBrye: beat down
[03:39:23] oktiv: multiple cards?
[03:39:40] RyeBrye: Yeah, have them jump onto another tuner or something
[03:39:48] oktiv: why am i watching th 700 club?
[03:39:51] RyeBrye: and if they can't jump to another tuner to get what they want, they can't always get what they want
[03:40:22] Dagmar: oktiv: Bad taste
[03:40:57] oktiv: nope, just the channel myth was on :( i'm not that old
[03:41:14] wagnerrp: RyeBrye: well the initial user should have priority
[03:41:37] rkjnsn: Is there a better spot to ask my question?
[03:41:49] RyeBrye: ?
[03:41:56] wagnerrp: rkjnsn: never saw any question from you
[03:42:08] wagnerrp: oh, its way up there...
[03:42:39] wagnerrp: how would there be multiple correct matches?

[03:44:10] oktiv: ahh spiderman, that's better. i'll leave you peeps alone for now. i've got a list on the todo before i put this machine in production.
[03:44:14] rkjnsn: Two different CD's have the same discid, so the server responds by saying there are multiple exact matches. The ripper on my PC let's me pick which one is correct, but mythmusic just seems to pick one at random.
[03:44:26] oktiv: thanks again wagnerrp
[03:44:42] wagnerrp: it probably picks the first match
[03:44:55] wagnerrp: and two entries with the same ID sounds like a broken system

[03:49:00] rkjnsn: discid collisions are a know issue, which is why the protocol has a provision for multiple exact matches.

[06:57:38] wagnerrp: that was just the impetus you needed...
[06:58:17] sphery: and I've been planning on swapping my Athlon XP (89W TDP) mythbackends out for some nice 65W Regor systems (since I can't get 45W), so I'll get the mythbackend, then take the fan from my mbe and put it on the sempron system
[06:59:23] sphery: turns out the sempron is probably in the 62–64W range
[06:59:37] wagnerrp: sphery: #6839 was closed because i co-opted some code some unknown person on IRC and added a bunch of crap to it

[07:29:20] wagnerrp: and?
[07:29:29] dustybin: how can one debug VDPAU problems if the driver is closed source?
[07:29:34] wagnerrp: would you otherwise be going through and debugging their code?
[07:30:27] dustybin: am i right in thinking that the stability of VDPAU + mythtv, is all in nvidias hands?

[07:37:12] rkjnsn (rkjnsn!n=rkjnsn@pool-98-108-132-15.ptldor.fios.verizon.net) has left #mythtv-users ()
[07:37:30] sphery: yeah, so do what I mentioned, then go to Appearance and change the theme
[07:37:35] alakhia: sphery: thanks ... that works
[07:37:43] sphery: now change the theme to fix it
[07:40:51] sphery: wagnerrp: now I'm leaning toward getting the fan and sticking with the backends I have, and waiting--nay, hoping--for a 45W TDP dual-core...
[07:41:31] wagnerrp: oh you dream too small
[07:43:26] wagnerrp: (should be hoping for a quad core or something)
[07:45:18] wagnerrp: this comes close... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103682
[07:45:38] wagnerrp: although 3x the price of the 5050e is a bit much to swallow
[07:45:43] sphery: Yeah, the Athlon II 605e is supposed to be a 45W quad core
[07:45:47] sphery: don't know when it will be out
[07:45:57] sphery: and if it's really 45W TDP or if that's ADP
[07:46:33] sphery: and, yeah, too expensive for me--especially since I don't have any way to use that power (other than SETI)
[07:46:59] wagnerrp: here we go... 235e and 240e
[07:47:03] wagnerrp: new 45W DCs
[07:47:07] sphery: what?
[07:47:17] sphery: at newegg?
[07:47:24] wagnerrp: not yet
[07:47:30] wagnerrp: apparently theyre already on shelves in Japan
[07:47:54] sphery: wonder if shipping from japan would cost me more than $16 (cost of the hs/fan :)
[07:49:05] wagnerrp: i had a FXO card and some serial-USB adapters shipped from hong kong
[07:49:08] wagnerrp: couple bucks each
[07:50:10] sphery: AMD's energy efficient CPUs have always carried a price premium over their regular CPUs. In Japan, the 235e is priced from $75–82, the 240e from $86–91, and 605e from $157-$169 (ouch!). ( http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx? . . . adid=2337060 )
[07:50:17] sphery: the 605e is the quad-core 45W
[07:50:58] wagnerrp: those are 2.7 and 2.8GHz
[07:51:07] wagnerrp: so expect ~15–25% better than the 5050e
[07:51:16] wagnerrp: (from the more modern core)
[07:51:18] sphery: wow
[07:51:19] sphery: nice
[07:51:19] dustybin: image a box with a 45W quad-core and WD green HDs
[07:52:06] wagnerrp: the 605e is only 2.3GHz
[07:52:53] sphery: and the part that sucks is I just took all my old computer junk to disposal--and there were some fans I probably could have used...
[07:53:19] sphery: and the 45W CPU's should come out this month (meaning in a week?)
[07:53:55] wagnerrp: sphery: whats interesting is how economies change when youre using per-seat software
[07:54:42] wagnerrp: on the machines at work on which we run per-process licenses, its more economical to buy fewer of very expensive high clocked, high power processors
[07:54:58] sphery: heh, yeah
[07:59:11] alakhia: 0.22 appears more polished in a few places
[07:59:50] alakhia: i already got it to crash once
[08:02:20] wombo: ahh that is good you got it to crash, I am hoping that means you have logged it in trac with an explanation of how you did it?
[08:02:33] alakhia: i don't see any way to specify custom command for a movie (e.g. vlc)
[08:02:48] wagnerrp: its in the same place it used to be
[08:02:54] wagnerrp: however you shouldnt need to

[15:52:19] iamlindoro: Something I just fixed 5–10 minutes ago still hasn't updated the ticket to closed AFAICT
[15:52:22] iamlindoro: (#7181)
[15:52:29] dustybin: anybody know whos responsible for that terrible graphite theme?
[15:52:37] iamlindoro: fixed in 22062
[15:54:09] sphery: So, I ended up buying a new HS/Fan for my Sempron--not a new computer. It and my 2 backend systems are between 60–70W TDP, so getting a dual-core 65W doesn't help much (other than the fact that it would have an integrated nvidia GPU). But, AMD will have the energy-efficient version of that chip "soon" (this month?) at 45W, so I'm waiting for that.

[17:07:19] mike_hurley_1: wagnerrp: mpeg4 ffmpeg is what it's encoded with inside mkv with ac3 audio passed from dvd

[17:08:14] mike_hurley_1: actually, that's what i do for sd...the hd stuff i have no idea what codec
[17:08:25] mike_hurley_1: they were a bunch of wmv which probably doesn't help
[17:08:26] Chaz6: I'd be after a c++ library and python binding
[17:08:41] mike_hurley_1: test samples
[17:08:54] wagnerrp: like sphery said, H264 has the concept of 'slices', where the codec was designed with multithreaded in mind
[17:09:14] wagnerrp: each slice (one chunk of the screen) gets decoded in a separate thread
[17:09:30] wagnerrp: but it is reliant on the encoder encoding in slices as well
[17:09:41] wagnerrp: everything else in mythtv is single threaded
[17:09:45] mike_hurley_1: is there hope for all the decoders or would that require way too much ram?
[17:10:02] wagnerrp: sphery: is the deint in a second thread something added in trunk? or is it in 0.21?
[17:10:19] sphery: mike_hurley_1: when ffmpeg gets full support for multithreaded decode and when myth resyncs with that multi-thread-capable code, myth will support it. Unfortunately, the ffmpeg stuff isn't ready, yet--it breaks decoding of many videos
[17:10:19] sphery: wagnerrp: trunk only
[17:10:46] wagnerrp: mike_hurley_1: mythtv uses ffmpeg as its decoding library, and currently there is an experimental ffmpeg-mt branch of ffmpeg that allows multithreaded encode/decode on eventually all formats
[17:10:58] mike_hurley_1: i'd imaging you could have threads start from different marker frames but i'd also image that eating a lot of ram to hold the data
[17:11:37] wagnerrp: mike_hurley_1: that would be 'I-frames' or 'keyframes', and i do not believe that is how ffmpeg-mt is set up
[17:11:47] sphery: see ffmpeg-mt (but note that installing it won't help Myth, and "backporting" it into Myth will break Myth because it doesn't work--one of the devs already tried it, and it's not ready)
[17:12:28] wagnerrp: once that gets merged back into mainline ffmpeg, it will probably be sufficient reason for another ffmpeg sync
[17:12:30] mike_hurley_1: do you know if it's an active development path or is it something being played with in the background to their normal release schedule?
[17:12:43] wagnerrp: at which point you either have to run trunk, or wait until the next release
[17:13:12] wagnerrp: that aside, the Atom is probably the ONLY processor that could really make use of multithreaded decode of anything but h264
[17:14:04] wagnerrp: all the other codecs are relatively simple to decode, such that any multicore processor probably has the power to decode it single threaded
[17:14:17] mike_hurley_1: which is what i have...fortunately it supports decoding all but one of my 720p samples
[17:15:23] mike_hurley_1: and may become less of an issue if that atom/ion kit becomes the dominate htpc atom platform...i've read good things about it

[17:29:17] sphery: yeah, by the other, I meant the label side of TW--the ones who feel that all their stuff is getting stolen
[17:29:30] wagnerrp: so the limitation was just one due to lack of upstream bandwidth via undersea cable?
[17:29:40] tzanger (tzanger!n=tzanger@gromit.mixdown.ca) has joined #mythtv-users
[17:29:43] tzanger: good afternoon
[17:29:48] Chaz6: The problem is there is no competition, it is the first cable not owned by a carrier majority
[17:29:52] tzanger: I have a working frontend/backend setup (two different machines)
[17:30:04] tzanger: I am trying to add a second backend (slave) which has a pcie tuner (master does not have pcie)
[17:30:07] tzanger: they seem to connect
[17:30:15] Chaz6: Their international rates are enormous
[17:30:19] tzanger: the master sees the channels I scanned and so on on the slave
[17:30:32] tzanger: but the frontend can't seem to tune anything on the slave backend's tuner
[17:30:44] tzanger: now, I installed the frontend software on the salve backend as well just to test
[17:30:46] sphery: tzanger: sounds like broken video sources config
[17:30:47] tzanger: and it can tune just fine
[17:30:54] tzanger: sphery: well that's just it
[17:31:00] tzanger: the master backend does not see the sources on the slave backend
[17:31:02] sphery: tzanger: you need to have a separate video source for each separate group of channels
[17:31:22] sphery: if the master and the slave tuners all tune the exact same channels, you have only one video source
[17:31:26] tzanger: sphery: I'm not sure I understand. I have a tuner on the slave and it has its own channel group
[17:31:28] wagnerrp: you are hitting the button or menu option to change over to the tuner on the slave?
[17:31:31] sphery: channels are defined by the video source, so you don't rescan
[17:31:33] tzanger: sphery: no, slave is ATSC, master is DVB-S
[17:31:45] wagnerrp: huh? how did you pull that off?
[17:32:08] tzanger: wagnerrp: master backend has a DVB-S card in it, slave backend has an ATSC card in it
[17:32:26] tzanger: master does not see slave tuner though, and slave does not see master tuner
[17:32:33] sphery: then if they are legitimately 2 different video sources and properly configured, it's likely what wagnerrp said--you're not switching to the other tuner
[17:32:47] sphery: and are just noticing that you don't see the other's channels in the browse list
[17:32:53] sphery: use the EPG to change
[17:33:16] tzanger: sphery: the front end saw both channels but I could not watch live tv from the slave tuner
[17:33:26] tzanger: should the master backend not see the tuners on itself and all slaves?
[17:33:28] wagnerrp: what do you mean the master does not see the slave tuner?
[17:33:30] sphery: so, I'm guessing you're getting like 3 channels on that DVB-S, right? NASA and maybe a couple of shopping channels?
[17:33:40] wagnerrp: the backends all record on their own tuners
[17:34:20] tzanger: sphery: actually I'm not tuned to dish or expressvu satellites, I'm doign actual honest to goodness legitimate fta
[17:34:38] tzanger: (well will be, I hear that HIST and DOCU are clear on 101, but haven't actually got the dish up yet)
[17:34:51] wagnerrp: the master will make a slave's tuners as 'remote' on the status page, but the slave will never make any mention of the master's tuners
[17:34:52] tzanger: wagnerrp: the master backend does not see the slave backend's tuners
[17:34:56] tzanger: shoudl they not be listed in the tuner list?
[17:35:01] wagnerrp: and thats as far as the two mix
[17:35:07] tzanger: wagnerrp: I'm not even getting that far
[17:35:15] tzanger: I see no remote tuners on the master's tuner list (mythtv-setup)
[17:35:22] wagnerrp: you have all three systems running on the same database?
[17:35:45] wagnerrp: if you go into the backend logs, you see mention of the slave system logging into the master backend as a slave backend
[17:35:45] sphery: tzanger: yeah, I was just wondering what specific channels were really FTA in the US... That was really a question about what you found. Guess I'll have to wait to find out, though.  :)
[17:35:53] tzanger: wagnerrp: absolutely yes. the slave backend setup has 127.0.0.1 listed as its own DB, and then the master DB is my master DB's IP
[17:36:02] tzanger: sphery: yeah, I'm honestly not caring too much, it'd be nice if I could find something
[17:36:08] wagnerrp: erm... what?
[17:36:16] wagnerrp: the slave is running its own database?
[17:36:26] sphery: tzanger: mythtv-setup won't show you the capture cards on other hosts
[17:36:32] sphery: you only see those on the current host
[17:36:34] sphery: so that's fine
[17:36:43] tzanger: wagnerrp: mythtv-setup asks for a "local" db and a master IP if one exist, or 127.0.0.1 if not
[17:36:48] tzanger: sphery: really? ok. hm
[17:36:52] wagnerrp: NO
[17:36:53] sphery: mythbackend status page ( http://backendhostname:6544/ ) should show all the tuners
[17:37:06] wagnerrp: 127.0.0.1 can ONLY be used if you only have one single machine
[17:37:26] sphery: right, no 127.0.0.1 anywhere in a multi-system setup
[17:37:28] tzanger: sphery: mythtv-setup will not show input connections for other backends either?
[17:37:32] sphery: and only one database, no matter what
[17:37:44] tzanger: wagnerrp: ok, let me change that, I thought it looked a little funny
[17:37:48] sphery: tzanger: right, because input connections are based on the cards (that you can't see)
[17:38:03] wagnerrp: when you say 'own DB' and 'master DB', are you saying you have two databases running? or did you mean backend?

[17:38:53] tzanger: wagnerrp: yes I definitely ahve that

[17:39:01] sphery: must use a real IP
[17:39:03] tzanger: sphery: ok

[17:57:37] tzanger: actually I had a question asked of me the other day, and I'm not sure of the answer. Does mythtv have a youtube or other video streaming plugin?
[17:58:31] petre: I'm running mythbuntu jaunty (9.04) with a hauppauge 2250 dual tuner card. I had gotten it working a couple months ago using the instructions at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=942403
[17:59:19] petre: But then it stopped recording shows. I think the problem was caused by me by updating the kernel somewhere along the way.
[17:59:58] petre: Looking in the log I was seeing "Starting up as the master server.
[17:59:58] petre: ERROR: no valid capture cards are defined in the database."
[18:00:07] sphery: tzanger: no--closest thing is MythTube plugin, which is a plugin on a ticket, but it no longer works (and may not be fixable due to ToS/legal reasons)
[18:01:20] petre: Fine, I thought, I'll recompile the drivers with the new kernel. So, I did, although I used the newer 27223 drivers as suggested on page 5 of the URL I posted above.
[18:01:32] sphery: there's also another fork of Myth (Heliocreek) that provides some of that functionality, but it has issues
[18:01:57] sphery: tzanger: the best approach is to start a browser and browse the site
[18:02:10] tzanger: hmm
[18:02:14] tzanger: I'm gonna just stick to myth :-)

[18:04:19] sphery: tzanger: I stand corrected--yours is the best approach: don't use YouTube/Hulu/etc.  :)
[18:04:32] sphery: petre: read what I said...
[18:04:43] tzanger: haha :-) I don't like them, but the kids/wife would like the functionality
[18:04:45] sphery: it's myth config that's likely broken

[18:08:05] sphery: if so, you may have to work around what might be an issue
[18:08:19] sphery: good, then fixing the suorce should work
[18:08:36] tzanger: nevermind I see it now
[18:08:38] tzanger: wrong username
[18:08:39] wagnerrp: granted, im running an old version about 160 commits out of head
[18:08:47] wagnerrp: but the OSK is unusable

[18:09:08] petre: sphery, I deleted all capture cards after deleting all video sources, as instructed
[18:09:26] sphery: wagnerrp: I think iamlindoro saw similar issues with Qt dialogs
[18:09:47] sphery: petre: now recreate them
[18:09:54] wagnerrp: well thats odd...
[18:10:08] wagnerrp: 'space' on the frontend socket brings it up without focus
[18:10:09] sphery: changing the drivers may have changed the cards enough that you needed to recreate them in myth
[18:10:23] petre: but when I go to create the new capture card, I select DVB DTV capture card (v3), but in the DVB Device number, nothing appears
[18:10:23] wagnerrp: spacebar on the frontend directly just inserts a space into the editline
[18:10:36] petre: I think there is supposed to be a 0 and 1
[18:10:41] petre: (dual tuner)
[18:10:47] petre: but it's blank.
[18:11:19] wagnerrp: i really dont know how to bring up the OSK
[18:11:46] sphery: petre: hmmm... in that case, there may be something at a lower-than-myth level causing issues
[18:12:10] sphery: wagnerrp: I think it used to be SELECT
[18:12:27] sphery: though that should mean that space would do it
[18:12:54] petre: hmm, earlier I ran lsmod and saw the driver listed, but I don't see it now
[18:13:13] wagnerrp: 'enter' remotely, and the enter button locally, both bring up the OSK
[18:13:24] wagnerrp: locally, it works, remotely, it doesnt have focus
[18:14:17] wagnerrp: ill have to check that against a more recent revision, and put up a ticket
[18:15:00] olejl: petre: I had a similar problem a while back
[18:15:19] wagnerrp: im thinking its the fe socket triggering functions directly, rather than going through the same interface as the keyboard and LIRC

[18:15:30] wagnerrp: and its just triggering them wrong/old

[18:57:15] Chaz6: wagnerrp: oh, so it can read epg from streams?
[18:57:25] petre: Is EIT scanning where it queries the channel for listing info?
[18:57:28] wagnerrp: when the tuner is idle, mythtv will sweep the available multiplexes for EPG data
[18:57:42] Chaz6: wagnerrp: okay, the wiki page said it couldn't do that, maybe outdated
[18:57:56] jblack: Of course, by extracting the firmware, you're performing copyright infringement. So it's not recommended.
[18:58:01] wagnerrp: not so much 'cant' as much as 'shouldnt'
[18:58:18] wagnerrp: jblack: how is that copyright infringement?
[18:58:45] Chaz6: wagnerrp: maybe that's just for iptv streams
[18:59:12] Chaz6: I got my firmware off the supplied driver disk
[18:59:25] Chaz6: It's kinda necessary to use the receiver :)
[18:59:40] wagnerrp: Chaz6, petre: youre talking about the HVR-2250, which is an ATSC tuner
[18:59:51] wagnerrp: ATSC broadcasts typically have very limited EPG data
[18:59:56] wagnerrp: which is why you shouldnt use it
[19:00:15] Chaz6: wagnerrp: i was hoping to read epg from a dvb-iptv multiplex
[19:00:17] Chaz6: No atsc here
[19:00:39] wagnerrp: DVB-IPTV.... that doesnt sound right....
[19:00:39] petre: wagnerrp, that's what I was thinking that someone had told me earlier, that it's better to use the SD info
[19:00:49] Chaz6: There is a dump of the eit stream http://www.chaz6.com/files/dk-mux-1.html
[19:02:00] wagnerrp: if its DVB, then it is a modulated signal
[19:02:10] wagnerrp: if it is IPTV, then it is by definition not DVB
[19:02:16] Chaz6: I have no problems receiving it, my gateway dumps the whole multiplex onto the lan
[19:02:17] wagnerrp: you just have a TS stream
[19:02:55] Chaz6: So it is different
[19:06:02] Chaz6: This is what i get from tsreader: http://www.chaz6.com/files/epg-grid.png

[20:28:28] Dagmar: Period, end of diagnosis. Time to call the cable company and ask them why they turned off your firewire port.
[20:28:31] jduggan: dodgy stbs then, maybe fw got pushed
[20:28:40] Led-Hed: Dagmar, the only thing that could have changed is if the Cable Co did it.
[20:29:04] Dagmar: Led-Hed: I'm going to ignore you saying that since you didn't answer the straightforward question
[20:29:11] Led-Hed: Dagmar, Firewire ports work on the bad box. I can change channels, and plugreport shows that its connected.

[20:30:14] Dagmar: Call the cable company and tell them it's stopped working after their firmware update, or it's just died

[20:30:49] Dagmar: THat would NEVER HAPPEN

[20:31:06] Dagmar: No wait
[20:31:27] Dagmar: If nothing changed on your config then the cable company lied

[20:57:41] jduggan: ive seen shots of improvements of the ui in trunk/.22, but is it lighter on hardware? or is it very much theme dependant ?
[20:59:02] iamlindoro: largely theme dependent-- but expecting that myth will perpetually support ancient hardware is unrealistic
[20:59:12] iamlindoro: ie IMHO we shouldn't even be catering to VIA users any more

[21:01:31] iamlindoro: Have no problem with folks who want to run underpowered Atom based hardware, I just won't be making any changes in my themes to support those... well, IMO poor... hardware choices
[21:01:55] jduggan: hehe

[21:04:43] jduggan: it was a better choice than a via setup imo, i couldnt get away with much more in such a slim case and still keep it silent

[22:21:18] android60: I am adding guide info from an xml file, but mplexid and service id are not being added and its failing to tune. I did a test channel and manually added them and the channel worked. The generated channel entries look like http://mythtv.pastebin.ca/1580703

[22:23:28] iamlindoro: a) the XML files aren't supposed to include tuning info for digital, and b) we don't support/allow discussion of violating terms of service to get guide data

[22:23:57] iamlindoro: myth is already free, if you want guide info (and want support for it) then in the US you get to subscribe to SD
[22:25:39] wagnerrp: if youre in the US, cough up the $20/yr for SD
[22:25:59] wagnerrp: its at least worth that much of your time to not have to screw around with getting xmltv working
[22:26:17] android60: wagnerrp: well if you have to scan how would SD work with digital clear qam channels?
[22:26:45] wagnerrp: android60: you scan the channels, and then you go back through and manually insert XMLTV ids
[22:26:56] wagnerrp: you would have to do this with an xmltv provider anyway
[22:27:01] wagnerrp: so its no difference
[22:27:08] android60: oh ok
[22:27:18] android60: and i can do that in channel editor right?
[22:27:28] wagnerrp: (aside from iamlindoro's comment about WMC guide data being restricted to WMC)

[22:28:06] android60: ok i appreciate the info. I am not real worried about guide info, i just like the channel name etc to actually be there
[22:28:25] wagnerrp: mythtv is nearly worthless without guide data
[22:28:43] wagnerrp: you may as well just spend $20 on a VCR
[22:29:03] iamlindoro: And FWIW, *we* care. We don't want to be seen as a bunch of thieving scumbags, so many of us who know what we're doing here refuse to help people who decided to steal
[22:29:09] android60: heh, myth is a tad more complicated that that. a vcr organize everything in 1 place for an easy interface
[22:29:39] wagnerrp: android60: but you cant do anything but a manual record
[22:29:47] android60: I'm not trying to steal guide info or anything
[22:30:05] wagnerrp: but you are, as mentioned, WMC guide data is intended for WMC use only

[22:30:35] android60: so i figured using mythfill to update channels through xml would be easier for me
[22:31:05] iamlindoro: trouble with that is that you just *happen* to be stealing guide data by doing so...
[22:31:10] iamlindoro: or will you promise not to look?
[22:33:42] android60: I am only using it to figure out the format of what the xml file needed to be
[22:34:13] iamlindoro: what a load
[22:34:14] android60: mythfilldb kept throwing a fit with w.e i tried
[22:34:28] iamlindoro: downloading it *at all* is violating the ToS and not welcome
[22:34:48] iamlindoro: That's like saying you stole a diamond ring, but it's okay because you only wanted the price tag
[22:34:53] android60: how do you know I didnt download it on my vista premium machine?
[22:35:07] iamlindoro: Because it doesn't come in that format from your vista machine.
[22:35:22] android60: if the program i used put it that way then it would
[22:35:50] iamlindoro: And that, as previously mentioned, would be a VIOLATION OF TERMS OF SERVICE and thus unwelcome here
