[03:11:33] Batshua: I prefer Mythbuntu.
[03:11:59] Batshua: But I suppose it very much depends on what your box is to be used for (mine is almost exclusively a PVR)
[03:12:00] resno1: Batshua: will installing mythbunutu fix it?
[03:12:05] Batshua: No no
[03:12:13] wagnerrp: Batshua: im going to take that to mean they dont know mythtv runs on linux
[03:12:13] Batshua: check your backend and frontend settings
[03:12:20] Batshua: Oh, ask 'em.
[03:12:28] Batshua: And in one of the settings, there's a volume thing.
[03:12:31] Batshua: Futz with that.
[03:12:35] Batshua: I wish I could be more specific
[03:12:39] wagnerrp: no, im going to mock them
[03:12:40] Batshua: but I can't remember where the heck I found it.

[03:37:48] wagnerrp: (or lossless mpeg2 to mpeg2)
[03:38:01] Batshua: okay so does that mean my transcoding is being done by my tuner card?
[03:38:11] Dagmar: Uh no
[03:38:32] wagnerrp: transcoding, no... encoding, that depends on the type of card

[03:45:43] resno1: wagnerrp: is that common regardless of tuner card?

[03:46:09] wagnerrp: that is a common problem of 'framegrabbers'

[06:18:32] wagnerrp: only because you dont have to run the deinterlacer

[16:28:03] iamlindoro: tmkt: Erm, with *one* exception in my >100 Blu ray collection, all the films were a single m2ts file
[16:28:08] jedlhl: oh well very little conten comes from bd yet, and prolly never for me...
[16:28:17] tmkt1: iamlindoro: hmm..odd
[16:28:28] iamlindoro: each extra feature is another m2ts file, but if all you want is the film, which is all I care about, it's just one file
[16:28:36] tmkt1: i only have 1 blu-ray disk..and it had tons of m2ts files..so i guess mine was more of the exception
[16:29:02] tmkt1: can't believe blu-ray is such a bitch

[16:30:43] meshe: resno: yes, 2 actually, better to mess with a dev box than the production one
[16:30:44] jedlhl: I thought licensing would get in the way there and so ffmpeg etc would be able to support
[16:30:54] jedlhl: "would not"
[16:31:21] iamlindoro: ffmpeg couldn't care less about licensing
[16:31:39] jedlhl: yeah but the gpl doe :-)
[16:31:47] iamlindoro: It's generally legal where their devs live under the guise of interoperability
[16:32:01] iamlindoro: jedlhl: the GPL doesn't care about codec licensing either
[16:32:01] jedlhl: im assuming ffmpeg is gpl though :-)
[16:32:23] iamlindoro: some GPL, some LGPL
[16:32:54] jedlhl: so someone has reversed engineered how to decode all the latstest/greates doldy HD audio formats

[16:35:39] jedlhl: which ones are supported at this stage? where should i find that out ffmpeg site I guess?
[16:36:23] Josh_Borke: i should set up a dev myth box
[16:36:26] iamlindoro: Can play E-AC3, TrueHD, and can parse the DTS core out of DTS-HD
[16:36:37] iamlindoro: but any 8 channel audio will cause problems
[16:36:51] iamlindoro: for now, anyway, should be solved for .23
[16:38:01] jedlhl: is myth unstable recommended at this stage or only if you want constant headaches?
[16:38:29] iamlindoro: It's called unstable/development for a reason

[18:47:22] justinh: oh dear oh dear. Windows 7 'party' adverts. Those guys make linux zealots seem normal
[18:48:11] justinh: iamlindoro: well you *are* technically on company time :P
[18:48:47] wagnerrp: windows party?
[18:49:14] justinh: yeah, get 'all the guys' round & try to convert them to windows7 by showing them 'all teh cool stuff it can do'
[18:49:15] iamlindoro: justinh: Just wish we didn't have to take a meeting when I'm on the company... furniture
[18:49:48] wagnerrp: are they waiting outside computer stores? will there be a run on the display case at midnight?
[18:50:03] justinh: iamlindoro: ah. washbasin conversation is much less of a no-no but erm.. any other appliance usage time is off-limits IMHO.
[18:50:16] iamlindoro: agreed
[18:50:34] justinh: wagnerrp: there will probably be some people sad enough – or desperate enough because they've been stuck with vista all this time :D

[18:52:31] justinh: turn toward them as you naturally might during real conversation.. whoops. Oh god, sorry about your shoes & pants man
[18:53:36] justinh: nah not even I'm obnoxious enough to do that. Have a word with their boss :) I think it'd be reasonable
[18:54:08] iamlindoro: Only hiccup with that plan is that it's *my* boss
[18:54:24] justinh: had a feeling you'd say that

[18:55:34] justinh: I'm a bit surprised the masses aren't haranguing anybody with the 'is it ready yet?'
[18:56:29] wagnerrp: apparently there have been a bunch of demos at IDF of machines running a 'CE3100', PentiumM with integrated graphics and hardware video decoding
[18:57:31] iamlindoro: Now if only Intel's "linux friendliness" could produce something remotely resembling a working driver w/ hardware acceleration
[18:57:38] iamlindoro: or a working driver at all, for that matter
[18:57:43] justinh: heh
[18:59:31] justinh: iamlindoro: anyway, I know it's your boss & all but if it's bugging you that much a quiet word might go a way. *careful* quiet word

[19:02:16] justinh: 'I'd leave it a while if I were you'

[19:28:33] pakoko0: how can i modify the id vendor of my dvb-t? mythtv seems to be a dvb-s
[19:28:55] justinh: pakoko0: you don't
[19:29:14] justinh: pakoko0: does it work outside of mythtv as a dvb-t tuner?
[19:29:32] justinh: if yes, then you've probably configured mythtv-setup incorrectly
[19:29:40] pakoko0: kaffeine works fine with my dvb-t card
[19:30:04] pakoko0: but in myth-setup look dvb-s and i cant scan for channels or import channels.conf
[19:30:15] justinh: then I dont think mythtv-setup could possibly have misidentified the card.. because YOU select the type of tuner it is
[19:30:29] pakoko0: how can i modify on mythtv-setup?
[19:30:41] pakoko0: i only can select dvb-s and mine is dvb-t
[19:31:00] justinh: I thought there was only a generic 'DVB' type you can select

[20:41:48] Fozz: I found a webpage with a chat history

[20:42:03] Fozz: and YOU were talking about how YOU fixed THIS issue
[20:42:05] Fozz: haha

[20:47:13] Fozz: hmm...thats odd
[20:47:19] Fozz: thats in my apache error log
[20:49:09] Fozz: sorry, I dont understand what you mean by run top?
[20:49:27] iamlindoro: run the command "top"
[20:51:04] Fozz: oh, thanks
[20:52:12] Fozz: hmm, doesnt seem to pop up
[20:52:16] Fozz: just mythweb.pl
[20:52:51] iamlindoro: does the error.log message correspond with an attempt to launch a stream?
[20:53:07] iamlindoro: ie, tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log
[20:53:15] iamlindoro: then try to stream and see what is produced
[20:55:43] Fozz: yeah the config not found happens as soon as I press play on the flash player
[20:55:54] Fozz: maybe its the players configuration data saying where the flv file is
[20:56:12] Fozz: I think ffmpeg must be running though
[20:56:25] Fozz: I was trying to dump the ffmpeg output into a log from stream_flv.pl
[20:56:53] Fozz: so I chanced /dev/null to something else and the apache error log gave a permission error

[20:57:42] android60: are there any good hybrid tuner cards around $50? or just ntsc for around $30?
[20:57:53] android60: im assuming no
[20:58:58] wagnerrp: android60: you do not want a hybrid tuner (specifically)
[20:59:18] android60: why? low compatability?
[20:59:18] wagnerrp: the HVR-2250 is the only hybrid tuner with an mpeg encoder, and the mpeg encoder is not supported under linux
[20:59:34] wagnerrp: so all you care about is the digital tuner
[20:59:43] wagnerrp: since youre not going to be using a framegrabber for analog

[21:01:46] android60: well...
[21:02:15] android60: I need an analog tuner now, but i figured if i was putting out the money it might as well do both since i know ill need a digital tuner in the future
[21:02:23] wagnerrp: hybrid means one tuner that can do both ATSC or QAM
[21:02:30] wagnerrp: dual tuner means two separate tuners
[21:02:36] Josh_Borke: i vote hvr 160
[21:02:36] wagnerrp: err... ATSC and NTSC
[21:02:46] android60: ya, i was thinking dual but said hybrid
[21:02:56] Josh_Borke: 1600 rather
[21:03:09] Fozz: lol
[21:03:12] android60: Josh_Borke: in the wiki i thought it said analog on 1600 wasnt working
[21:03:13] wagnerrp: the 1600 is the only ATSC/NTSC dual tuner supported under mythtv
[21:03:28] Josh_Borke: android60: analog works great for me under myth 0.21
[21:03:36] wagnerrp: the 1800 has linux support, but issues with the driver make the NTSC side not play nice with mythtv
[21:03:47] android60: ya i have the 1800 so i know first hand
[21:03:50] Fozz: I dont know much about other tuners but I have the Haup 1800 which has ATSC/QAM on one input and analog on another. You can only record cable OR atsc at the same time
[21:03:52] Josh_Borke: me too
[21:04:01] wagnerrp: if youve got the space, you might just want to pick up a cheap PVR off ebay
[21:04:11] Fozz: the only complaint I have about the 1800 is that I can't get the radio working in linux
[21:04:15] wagnerrp: and then get a 1250/2250/800i/HDHR/whatever later
[21:04:29] android60: Fozz: how are you doing analog with it? tvtime?
[21:04:49] wagnerrp: tvtime bypasses the mpeg encoder, and accesses the framegrabber directly
[21:04:52] wagnerrp: no good for recording

[21:05:59] android60: I guess I got lucky for getting my 1800 hvr mce kit for $40
[21:06:16] wagnerrp: the 1800 is usually closer to $100
[21:06:27] Fozz: android60: Im not doing analog, just digital atsc, I would have thought analog would work with mythtv
[21:06:37] android60: b.c i cant find anything but garbage for the same price range
[21:06:59] Fozz: 1800 is well supported. Did anyone get the radio working with this?
[21:07:23] android60: i havent tried yet.
[21:07:36] android60: but the 1800 digital with trunk is awesome
[21:08:24] android60: my only issue is if i press like up in the guide too many times too quickly it crashes to frontend menu
[21:08:39] wagnerrp: android60: the 1250 is a nice card in that range, but is digital only
[21:08:58] wagnerrp: the 800i is a nice card that you can sometimes find on sale for $30
