[00:36:06] wagnerrp: mheld: are you running the backend?
[00:36:15] mheld: i should be
[00:36:29] wagnerrp: not if youre trying to scan using scan, dvbscan, or the mythtv scanner
[00:36:32] mheld: i should stop that, no?
[00:36:35] janneg: wagnerrp: I think it's the other way. it was originally called scan but some distros remaned it to dvbscan due to conflicts and so it got renamed in the repo too

[05:27:53] at0m|c: benc-: maybe the disk is bottleneck, and not CPU? mythcommflag isn't very CPU intensive, it just quickly scans through the file
[05:28:32] at0m|c: benc-: on my machine it uses only a couple % CPU too..

[05:31:59] benc-: that would make sense, but seems unlikely. tv spool is on a drive that hdparm tests at 70–90MB/s. and I don't think that disk is doing anything but mythcommflag.
[05:33:11] benc-: or maybe it really does use that much disk bandwidth per cpu usage. perhaps I'll experiment with more mythcommflag instances simultaneously. it's just running one now.

[18:11:56] rah: Pontiac: erm.. if I don't scan for channels, how will mythtv know which frequency to set the DVB receiver to?
[18:12:48] Pontiac: There are two buttons. One is to scan the channels, which has the tuner go through each channel and get the signal quality. The other button will assign channels based on the downloaded list you get from your channel guide provider.

[18:14:46] Pontiac: I tried to scan, then apply what was downloaded, but I ended up with duplicate channels, unassigned channels, etc. So I dropped all the channels, then just ran with what the provider gave me, and it worked perfectly.

[18:23:36] DigitalNY: any idea guys?
[18:24:30] rah: ok, I have a problem
[18:24:32] Pontiac: Rah> The technical explanation is that the database is unable to insert channel 1011 due to there already BEING a channel 1011 in the database. The 1011 is the primary key, has to be unique, etc, etc.

[18:27:57] Pontiac: Pick a different number for now. 1111 for instance. I think this is the PK value you're entering.
[18:28:34] rah: why would it ask me for a channel ID if the channel ID wasn't significant?
[18:29:31] Pontiac: It is significant. Its the channel you go to when you select channel 1111 (Or 111 – checking my tables right now)

[18:34:12] meshe: confirmed on my system too, chanid needs to be unique, but it doesn't look like it needs to be anything other than that
[18:34:33] meshe: it could probably be an auto_inrement field, but there are most likely reasons why it wasn't made so
[18:34:43] Pontiac: No, there is no auto-increment on that field.
[18:34:55] Pontiac: mysql> describe channel;
[18:34:55] Pontiac: +-------------------+-----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+

[18:35:19] meshe: Pontiac: seriously, use pastebin
[18:35:31] Pontiac: heh. Alright.
[18:35:56] meshe: i meant that it could have been made auto_increment, not that it could currently be
[18:36:38] Pontiac: Possibly. I'm not using the latest release, so there may have been a change.
[18:36:48] rah: meshe: surely the mythfilldatabase wouldn't bother asking for an ID if it could have been auto_increment?
[18:37:01] ** meshe think you're still missing what i mean... **
[18:37:25] Pontiac: Someone may have altered the table manually to have the DB assign numbers to ChanID?
[18:37:26] meshe: they could change it or have made the field auto_increment when it was designed originally, but they didn't
[18:37:45] rah: meshe: surely the mythfilldatabase program wouldn't bother asking for an ID if it could have been auto_increment?
[18:38:03] meshe: since it only requires unique numbers, auto_increment woudl normally be a good idea, but there may be some design decision as to why they didn't
[18:38:19] Pontiac: rah> Go into MySQL and run describe channel; and see what shows up.
[18:38:23] rah: meshe: you're talking about the database
[18:38:26] gbee: who knows, that code was written so long ago and few people use --manual

[18:38:59] ** meshe nods **
[18:39:07] gbee: not sure I even know what --manual does
[18:39:11] meshe: to insert into the database into a field that has to be unique
[18:39:22] rah: meshe: irrespective of whether or not the database field was or is auto_increment, the program is asking the user for a number

[18:42:39] rah: Pontiac: I get repeated rows in the channel table
[18:43:02] meshe: gbee: just said that the code is very old and that few people use --manual so it's not suprising that there's few in here that know what the process is
[18:43:30] rah: who is gbee?
[18:44:24] Pontiac: Then one of two things are happening... The database isn't deleting row 1011 for some reason, which is causing a fault, or, you're downloading two different channel listings, which both have channel number of 1011, which is causing the barf. When confronted, enter a different number, like 100011.
[18:45:15] rah: the existing row contains the channel frequency information
[18:45:50] rah: meshe: and where would one go, if not "here", that would know what the process is?
[18:46:38] Pontiac: The Channel Frequency info tells the tuner card what to tune into. The concept of "CHANNELS" is just for the people who don't have a science degree in broadcasting.
[18:46:49] Pontiac: Pen/paper/copy&paste that number.
[18:46:52] meshe: the mailing list, or read the code, and if you figure it out document it in the wiki so that others with the same issue don't have to do the same

I've been through mythbuntu & mythdora.. and both had huge issues with my hardware.. with mythbuntu the nvidia driver absolutely refused to work (I tried all 3 versions it had available) and with mythdora I'm not getting video in mythtv.. just a black screen with two pixel lines of video
[21:13:54] J-e-f-f-A: DigitalNY: I don't know what to say – both of those are excellent distributions IMHO. I run Fedora Core on most of my boxes, with Myth from source. I had a test box setup with mythbuntu before and didn't have any issues like you're describing with it... (sorry I guess I'm kinda useless today!)
[21:14:51] gbee: both issues are driver related, but why you'd be having those problems with the nvidia driver ...
[21:15:16] DigitalNY: I just can't figure out why mythtv would display video playback / live tv as a line across the center of it's window when the desktop & mythtv little preview window displays fine.. *shrug*
[21:15:17] J-e-f-f-A: DigitalNY: What is your video card???
[21:15:29] DigitalNY: Nvidia Geforce 6200 (nv44a)

[21:15:48] J-e-f-f-A: DigitalNY: Preview window doesn't use hardware acceleration.
[21:15:49] gbee: DigitalNY: preview isn't hardware accelerated, fullscreen video is
[21:16:00] J-e-f-f-A: ^^ beat ya by 2 seconds. ;-)
[21:16:11] dustybin: will mythtv .22 feature smooth scrolling cursor ?
[21:16:29] DigitalNY: okay.. so it's a hardware accel issue.. try a different nvidia driver?
[21:17:03] J-e-f-f-A: DigitalNY: Try changing the playback profile to "Slim" – and see if that helps.
[21:17:58] gbee: dustybin: no, ran out of time
[21:18:29] dustybin: aye ok
[21:18:32] rah: I've selected EIT as a video source and run mythfilldatabase but I still don't seem to have any EPG data

[21:19:22] J-e-f-f-A: DigitalNY: What deinterlacer are you using?
[21:19:34] rah: is there something more I should be doing to get EIT data to be used?
[21:19:58] ** J-e-f-f-A doesn't use EIT, so he's unsure how to answer that question... ;-) **
