[00:00:32] yoh: hello, anyone ever tried using a Pinnacle DC30Plus?
[00:01:22] Der_Thomas: [miles]: I can't find exactly what I'm looking for, but I think that this will help

[00:03:05] [miles]: ok thank you Der_Thomas
[00:03:06] Der_Thomas: [miles]: you have to go to utilities->setup->TVsettings->Playback on the 1st page you'll see something there for filters. You'll want to use the custom string to define your filters
[00:03:40] Der_Thomas: there is a page (in the wiki) I think that goes into this in detail, but I can't find it right now
[00:03:59] [miles]: I guess I can't just use the same string from kaffine no?
[00:04:05] [miles]: it's like perfect the quality
[00:05:48] Cyberai: xris, jusrt did, everything looks fine
[00:05:50] Der_Thomas: [miles]: I just started playing with this myself, but I think you are right
[00:06:09] Der_Thomas: *ANYONE* here know anything about playback filters?

[00:38:47] Luke4: I have a backend hidden in a closet, and I want to use my everyday TV as a frontend. But I can't reall have it open as a seperate window playing video or tv, while browsing the web or something. I'm wondering if there's a player that'll allow me to resize the window, move it around, etc.
[00:39:01] Luke4: http://winmyth.sourceforge.net/winmyth-sc2.jpg
[00:39:01] GreyFoxx: Luke4: You can tell mythfrontend to run with a Window border for moving around, and you can tell it the size to be in the screen

[00:42:06] SarahEmm: your other windows have titlebars though Luke4?
[00:42:18] Der_Thomas: you need to go to utilities->setup-> appearance the 2nd or 3rd screen will have a check box near the bottom that says Run in wondow
[00:42:39] Der_Thomas: s/i/o/
[00:42:56] Luke4: Yeah, all the other windows have titlebars. And I did set the Run in window checkbox. It's in a window right now, but it doesn't have borders of a titlebar
[00:43:10] Luke4: ahh, found the problem
[00:43:12] GreyFoxx: weird

[00:48:53] Der_Thomas: but that is just me guess

[13:21:38] Pryon: of more concern would be disk contention (IMHO)
[13:22:01] Yahooadam: also it probably commflags faster then realtime
[13:22:06] Pryon: definitely
[13:22:07] Yahooadam: so you would run out of program to commflag
[13:22:53] Yahooadam: interesting idea for the dev's though
[13:23:03] Yahooadam: while the frames are in memory, why not commflag them
[13:23:14] jarle: Yahooadam: this is already included in mythtv...

[23:23:56] RichW: not sure about 10 up/down :)
[23:24:00] Kazan: what's the command to force mythfill to delete all data and completely reload
[23:24:11] fryfrog: --refresh-all
[23:24:16] fryfrog: and/or looking at --help output :)
[23:24:48] Kazan: because the MLS playoff match tommorow was rescheduled for a different time like... last week and my listings haven't updated
[23:25:06] siXy: RichW: nothing like that big
[23:25:15] fryfrog: the daily update of listings gets the current day and the last day
[23:25:16] siXy: even HD is less than 20mbit
[23:25:29] Yahooadam: bah
[23:25:31] RichW: Nice!
[23:25:32] Yahooadam: hosts file didnt work
[23:26:00] siXy: Yahooadam: just point the FE to the external IP of your router and NAT it to the backend
[23:26:31] Kazan: not all routers allow that sixy
[23:26:32] siXy: RichW: its the latency thats the problem more than the bandwidth, assuming you have a home connectionwith a fast upload
[23:26:39] Kazan: infact no router i ever have owned allows that
[23:26:56] siXy: Kazan: i've never owned one that didnt :)
[23:26:59] Yahooadam: im pretty sure its not possible siXy
[23:27:03] Yahooadam: oh maybe not then
[23:27:19] Yahooadam: siXy that wont work anyway
[23:27:19] Kazan: linksys, d-link routers are what i've had
[23:27:30] siXy: Yahooadam: why?
[23:27:31] Yahooadam: because although that might connect it to the mysql database
[23:27:38] Kazan: if you tried to point a computer on the internal network to the external ip to abuse the port forwarding they would just drop the packets
[23:27:48] Yahooadam: when mythfrontend looks for the backend it finds the ip from the database
[23:27:55] Yahooadam: and thats setup in mythtv-setup
[23:28:22] Yahooadam: but if i change that ip then all my frontends break
[23:29:13] siXy: on the remote FE alias "internal backend ip" "remote ip"
[23:29:33] webustany (webustany!n=webustan@maison.mymadcat.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:29:36] siXy: that should do it
[23:29:57] webustany: hi there
[23:30:05] Yahooadam: thats what im trying to do siXy >_<
[23:30:38] Yahooadam: i have no idea _how_ to though :p
[23:30:40] webustany: I installed mythtv yesterday on a fedora 8 from source, but I can't do recordings. Myth says it's recording when it shoulds, but it stores the files nowhere
[23:30:44] webustany: or maybe in /dev/null :)
[23:31:03] Yahooadam: did you setup the recording directory in mythtv-setup ?
[23:31:10] Yahooadam: and can mythtv write to said directory
[23:32:02] webustany: I think yes
[23:32:07] webustany: mythtv run as me
[23:32:19] Yahooadam: does the backend run as you though
[23:32:27] Yahooadam: normally it runs as mythtv
[23:32:28] siXy: Yahooadam: http://www.unix.org.ua/orelly/networking/tcpip/ch07_03.htm
[23:32:30] webustany: [madcat@boiteux enregistrements]$ps aux | grep myth
[23:32:30] webustany: madcat 9988 0.1 2.6 248504 13740 ? Ssl Oct24 1:49 mythbackend -d
[23:32:34] siXy: static routing howto
[23:33:30] KaZeR (KaZeR!n=kazer@77.200.87.94) has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[23:33:59] KaZeR (KaZeR!n=kazer@77.200.99.183) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:34:27] webustany: Yahooadam: also, RecordFilePrefix is set to the right folder in the settings
[23:34:31] webustany: I'm looking in the database
[23:35:29] Yahooadam: not having luck there siXy – "SIOCADDRT: No such device"
[23:36:29] siXy: hmm?? what command are you trying to run?
[23:36:53] Yahooadam: sudo route add 192.168.1.11 127.0.0.1
[23:37:24] Yahooadam: if i put the extra 1 at the end like i did, it throws up route --help (i assume that means syntax error)
[23:37:31] Yahooadam: like they did #
[23:37:42] webustany: Yahooadam: what are you trying to do ?
[23:37:52] Yahooadam: route 192.168.1.11 to locahost
[23:38:02] Yahooadam: so when i ping 192.168.1.11 it should ping localhost
[23:38:47] webustany: Yahooadam: that's using /etc/hosts, not routes, or am I wrong ?
[23:39:00] siXy: Yahooadam: i dont think you can route an ip > localhost
[23:39:10] webustany: no, you can use /etc/hosts
[23:39:13] siXy: you could route that ip > external ip of your mythbx however
[23:39:15] webustany: to make an alias
[23:39:30] Disputin (Disputin!n=disp@c-24-20-92-49.hsd1.mn.comcast.net) has quit ("This computer has gone to sleep")
[23:39:37] Yahooadam: i tried hosts too
[23:39:54] Yahooadam: i put an entry in hosts
[23:39:55] Yahooadam: 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.11
[23:39:59] Yahooadam: and tried it the other way too
[23:40:15] Yahooadam: (and restarted networking after each attempt)
[23:40:18] siXy: webustany: that wont work
[23:40:28] webustany: cause of the subnet ?
[23:42:15] siXy: Yahooadam: how about using DNS address rather than IP for your backend + all frontends?
[23:42:30] siXy: then it gets very easy
[23:42:58] siXy: echo "127.0.0.1 mythbackend" >> /etc/hosts
[23:43:33] ol_schoola (ol_schoola!n=meatwad@c-67-167-58-147.hsd1.il.comcast.net) has quit ()
[23:44:40] siXy: otherwise, you are going to have to use my earlier suggestion, which was map the internal myth backend ip to the external network ip on the remote FE
[23:44:49] Kazan: meng
[23:44:56] Kazan: i may have to go in and correct the espn2 listings by hand
[23:45:35] Kazan: yup
[23:45:36] Kazan: crap
[23:45:41] Kazan: schedules direct has incorrect information
[23:45:49] webustany: nobody has a clue for my recording problem ?
[23:46:29] siXy: webustany: i'm guessing either permissions on the recording directory, or it doesnt exsist
[23:46:50] webustany: well, it exists, and mythtv can write in it since it put a nfslock file...
[23:46:55] Kazan: grrrr
[23:47:11] siXy: Kazan: EIT has its plus points :)
[23:47:14] Yahooadam: weird
[23:47:31] Yahooadam: if i add 127.0.0.1 windows.com, windows.com gets redirected to 127.0.0.1
[23:47:48] Yahooadam: but if i do 127.0.0.1 192.168.1.11, it doesnt get routed to 127.0.0.1
[23:47:51] siXy: Yahooadam: you can alias a DNS name in hosts, but not an ip
[23:48:05] mzb_d800: Yahooadam: your original aim was to find out why transcoding wasn't working, right? Haven't you lost sight of the problem? ;)
[23:48:14] Yahooadam: maybe al ittle
[23:48:19] Yahooadam: but i cant do anything without this
[23:48:21] siXy: mzb_d800: lol
[23:48:54] siXy: webustany: start backend with -v all and you should find out when you try to record somehitng
[23:49:06] webustany: ok, thanks
[23:49:15] mzb_d800: seriously, you are getting so distracted
[23:49:23] mzb_d800: why don't you rethink your method
[23:49:35] siXy: anyways – i gotta go. bye!
[23:49:38] siXy (siXy!n=hidden@88.211.54.206) has quit ("bye!")
[23:49:47] Yahooadam: ive downloaded the latest mythweb from the website
[23:49:51] mzb_d800: I started to read the log, but tbh it was too long and boring ;)
[23:49:52] Yahooadam: but that still gives the same problem
[23:49:55] Yahooadam: so i need a frontend
[23:50:12] mzb_d800: why do you need a local frontend?
[23:50:22] Kazan: sixy: you don't get EIT for analog channels
[23:50:23] Yahooadam: so i can tell it to transcode a recording
[23:50:31] mzb_d800: pfft
[23:50:32] Kazan: and i don't even get EIT for my digital channels
[23:50:45] mzb_d800: ssh -X myfrontend@home
[23:50:52] mzb_d800: ssh mybackend@home
[23:51:00] mzb_d800: wouldn't that be easier?
[23:51:47] mzb_d800: then increase the verbosity of the backend (no need to run it in console) and restart it
[23:52:10] mzb_d800: tail the backend log in one session, and start the frontend in the other
[23:52:10] Yahooadam: because that wouldnt start a transcode job ...
[23:52:18] Yahooadam: all i want is to start a transcode
[23:52:20] mzb_d800: are you listening?
[23:52:44] mzb_d800: by starting a frontend from within the ssh session, it will open on your current desktop
[23:53:09] mzb_d800: that is the simplest approach imo
[23:53:25] webustany: 2007-10–25 01:50:10.985 Started recording: 2 (France 2) "jeu oct 25 01:49:00 2007": channel 1002 on cardid 1, sourceid 1
[23:53:25] webustany: 2007-10–25 01:52:04.339 Finished recording 2 (France 2) "jeu oct 25 01:49:00 2007": channel 1002
[23:53:32] Yahooadam: do you have any idea how slow transfering X over the internet is ?
[23:53:32] webustany: no errors in between
[23:53:40] mzb_d800: compress it
[23:53:40] Yahooadam: i would be here for hours while the screen loaded
[23:53:45] webustany: yes
[23:53:49] webustany: ssh -X is very slow
[23:53:52] webustany: nx is way faster
[23:54:19] mzb_d800: and how long have you spent trying to do something that should have been done with a vpn? ;)
[23:54:35] mzb_d800: you're not trying to watch video over it
[23:54:46] mzb_d800: just navigate the frontend menus to start a job
[23:55:01] Yahooadam: seriously, how hard is it to say, if ip address = 192.168.1.11 then ip address = 127.0.0.1
[23:55:11] Disputin (Disputin!n=disp@c-67-168-213-213.hsd1.wa.comcast.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[23:55:12] Yahooadam: i thought Linux was meant to be good at stuff like that
[23:55:26] mzb_d800: now if I can do ssh -X over ~512Kb I'm sure your 4Mb connection would handle it
[23:55:29] Kazan: um
[23:55:39] Kazan: went you give an exact ip address it doesn't go to the hosts file
[23:55:43] Kazan: why do you need to do this anyway
[23:55:47] Kazan: why don't you freaking update the config
[23:56:14] Yahooadam: cos that breaks all the frontends using mythtv ...
[23:56:20] Kazan: fix them?
[23:56:24] Kazan: update their configs
[23:56:36] johnadsfsdfdf: ok ive got svideo out working on my ati radeon 9200se, but its only showing the first 800x600 of what's on the monitor... i got it using xrandr... tried setting the vga to 800x600 but when i do that i cant get xrandr to turn on svideo ... any ideas
[23:56:59] Kazan: disable monitor usage
[23:57:02] mzb_d800: anyway, I've given you 2 suggestions that would help, have fun

[23:57:47] johnadsfsdfdf: Kazan: the only way i can get it to show is by runnning xrandr from within X... how can i set this up to be automatic?
[23:58:02] Kazan: xorg.conf
[23:58:46] johnadsfsdfdf: xorg.conf is a difficult beast to master, ive been fighting with it for a few days on this issue... any idea how i can find what needs to be set based off of the xrandr commands i run?
[23:58:57] Kazan: google
[23:59:06] Kazan: use only the svideo out
[23:59:15] Kazan: ati xorg svideo out
[23:59:21] Kazan: are you using the binary driver or the open source one?
[23:59:35] johnadsfsdfdf: open source
[23:59:39] Kazan: bad boy
[23:59:44] johnadsfsdfdf: from what i read its better
[23:59:49] Kazan: you read wrong
