[01:12:06] bobc: I've got a Mythtv box in which the backend won't come up after a power outage. The backend says that there's no setting's found for the machine's BackendServerIP.
[01:12:47] bobc: when I run mythbackend -v all I see that it is using hostname 'my-unique-identifier-goes-here' instead of the correct hostname
[01:13:07] bobc: the box returns the correct hostname using the hostname command however
[01:13:17] bobc: I'm confused
[01:13:24] bobc: any ideas?
[01:13:47] GreyFoxx: You need to edit your mysql.txt
[01:14:05] GreyFoxx: you appear to have uncommented the LocalHostName value without actually filling one in
[01:14:20] GreyFoxx: (you likely have 2 o them on your system and a diferent once is used during bootup)
[01:15:27] bobc: you mean I uncommented the LocalHostName value in the hosts file?
[01:15:41] GreyFoxx: in "mysql.txt"
[01:15:50] GreyFoxx: the file myth uses to get the database connection parameters
[01:16:01] mzb_d800: I've changed my High Quality profile so that I can do the lossless (re)encoding I mentioned above ^^
[01:16:15] bobc: I see the identifier there
[01:16:17] mzb_d800: but this setup seems less than ideal
[01:16:32] Ryushin (Ryushin!i=proxy@windwalker.openinnovations.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:16:46] bobc: and for some reason it is uncommented
[01:17:04] bobc: don't know how that happened. thanks GreyFoxx!
[01:17:10] GreyFoxx: np:)
[01:17:12] mzb_d800: isn't there a "nice" way to re-encode a recording that has already been transcoded? (ie. just perform more cuts?)
[01:17:46] GreyFoxx: I don't think there is
[01:17:46] saucisson_ is now known as saucisson
[01:17:54] GreyFoxx: only for mpeg2->mpeg2 stuff
[01:19:05] mzb_d800: so my changing my high quality profile to be lossless, and then doing a 2nd transcode at highQ won't work?
[01:19:16] mzb_d800: (it's > 50% now;)
[01:19:19] GreyFoxx: I'd be happily suprised if it did
[01:19:29] GreyFoxx: how long has it been running ?
[01:19:39] mzb_d800: couple of minutes
[01:20:11] GreyFoxx: As far as I knew the lossless stuff applied to mpeg2 video only
[01:20:19] mzb_d800: 120fps
[01:20:21] GreyFoxx: but if it works then cool
[01:20:35] mzb_d800: hmm
[01:21:01] mzb_d800: seems like a bit of a hack
[01:22:12] mzb_d800: the program in question was (I think) mediumQ (which I've got set to mpeg4 2200)

[01:23:37] GreyFoxx: hehe
[01:24:24] mzb_d800: looks fine
[01:24:33] mzb_d800: but all sounds too easy ;)
[01:24:35] GreyFoxx: cool :)
[01:24:55] mzb_d800: tbh, I think I had medium and high profiles set to the same
[01:25:02] mzb_d800: so it's no real loss

[08:09:52] Tanthrix: heanol: MPEG2 1080p is no problem for a Core 2 Duo, nor is xvid, WMV might be tricky, and x264 is extremely unlikely to work, but only until some mutlithreaded decoders come out

[11:47:03] mzb_d800: and each frontend needs the pin for the backend it needs to connect to
[11:48:18] joyzlin: do I need say the latest ffmpeg patch, or perhaps the commercial decoder that can be hacked into mythtv?

[11:53:16] directhex|work: joyzlin, h264 should play VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY slowly right now
[11:53:45] directhex|work: joyzlin, another ffmpeg sync is required to add multithreaded decoding (current mythtv ffmpeg is ~r8000, threaded h264 decoding is ~r10000
[11:54:52] joyzlin: directhex|work, I got poor Sempron 3100+ – I guess I shouldn't even try recording the full HD now?
[11:55:12] directhex|work: joyzlin, honestly? no, not with ffmpeg doing the decoding
[11:55:46] directhex|work: joyzlin, if you want to do some testing, there are files on http://x264.nl/h.264.samples/ which are captures from broadcast h264 hd channels
[11:55:49] tank-man: is mythtranscode able to make mpeg4-avc files?
[11:55:50] directhex|work: joyzlin, try playing them
[11:56:00] directhex|work: tank-man, h264? dunno
[11:56:01] joyzlin: directhex|work, is even the recording supposed to fail?
[11:56:09] joyzlin: directhex|work, it created 0 bytes long file
[11:56:23] directhex|work: joyzlin, no, that shouldn't happen unless there's something funny going on (e.g. it's transmitted with dvb-s2
[11:56:59] joyzlin: directhex|work: though interesting is that sasc (normally taking 6% for decoding SD) went up to some 31% and stayed there – so it was decoding the HD C*worx all the time
[11:57:22] joyzlin: but it wasn't saving anyting to disk
[11:57:26] joyzlin: anything
[11:57:31] directhex|work: joyzlin, oh, you're using a softcam. all bets are off as to what/why is broken then
[11:57:41] directhex|work: joyzlin, it's also far from supported in here
[11:58:12] joyzlin: i'd like to note that I own the decoding card. I just use softcam to put it into pc
[11:59:03] directhex|work: not, strictly speaking, relevant to the discussion
[11:59:12] joyzlin: anyway this is dvb-s and was reported to work correctly by other SkyStar2 owners using AltDVD (Windows soft)
[11:59:21] joyzlin: AltDVB, sorry
[11:59:40] directhex|work: for all i know, it could be your CAM emulator choking on the stream, but it would be fine with a hardware CAM
[12:00:06] joyzlin: ok I take that.
[12:00:43] joyzlin: anyway, could the poor sempron handle saving the stream (not talking about playing it back – I could use another frontend with dual 4800+)
[12:01:08] joyzlin: and is current mythtv-multirec ready for such hd streaming?
[12:02:49] joyzlin: i am asking because afaik other FTA HD tests on Astra 19.2 and 23.5 moved to DVB-S2 or use such high FEC that SS2 can't handle them
[12:04:00] directhex|work: in theory, the CPU shouldn't matter, it's all disk i?o based
[12:04:05] directhex|work: which is what DMA is for
[12:05:47] joyzlin: directhex|work: in theory, yes. OK, I just wanted to hear whether upgrading the ffmpeg or something is required for recording. Seems like it's not which is good. Thanks.
[12:06:06] directhex|work: joyzlin, ffmpeg is not used in any way, shape or form for recording
[12:06:56] joyzlin: directhex|work, I understand. Just wanted to be sure before digging deeper.
