[00:35:08] | JDahl: | juski, I am (obviously) very ignorant about this, but this is from my cable providers homepage "DK DVB-C MUX1 (QAM)", but I do have analogue TV |

[00:35:53] | juski: | jduggan: I hope she kept the receipt |

[02:47:13] | RasQulec: | how do I use the -display param? it wont accept anything so I can make it use my other screen all the time, though I am in twinview atm so I bet thats why I cant experiment |

[02:49:36] | GreyFoxx: | sandeen: then set your DISPLAY varible |
[02:49:54] | sandeen: | GreyFoxx, it needs DISPLAY to display ascii help text? |

[02:50:07] | GreyFoxx: | yes |
[02:50:12] | sandeen: | why? :) |
[02:50:19] | GreyFoxx: | Because that's how it';s written ? |

Is there a setting for this or is it something I'll have to patch the sourcecode to fix? |

[09:46:45] | Tronic: | awilkins: I'd like to know, too. |
[09:47:29] | Tronic: | I have that same problem on one machine. Apparently its sound card runs slightly quicker than the TV broadcast does. |
[09:47:54] | Captain_Murdoch: | hit pause for a few seconds then unpause. |
[09:48:17] | Captain_Murdoch: | or use timestretch at 0.95% speed |
[09:48:29] | Captain_Murdoch: | err 0.95x speed.. :) |
[09:49:00] | Tronic: | Yes, but that is not a real solution. |
[09:49:19] | Captain_Murdoch: | try the "use video as timebase" setting |
[09:51:53] | awilkins: | I may try that. |
[09:52:07] | awilkins: | I've been hunting or the bit of code that decides how far to "pre-cache" |
[09:52:22] | awilkins: | So I can stick in a safety margin (or find out any settings that govern it). |
[09:52:34] | awilkins: | BUt my C++ is a little infantile |
[09:55:04] | Captain_Murdoch: | doesn't matter how low you set it, if you hit FFWD and catch up to realtime, then you'll run into the problem again. |
[09:56:05] | Captain_Murdoch: | only way to prevent is to makes sure you don't catch up too close. |
[09:57:26] | Captain_Murdoch: | and if it is hiccuping, then it isn't that it's trying to store too much, it's probably being starved of data because you're too close to realtime. if it was storing too much, why would it hiccup? |
[09:59:47] | awilkins: | Hmm, yes, spo rather than the pre-cache line, we need to find the code for the "intact video fringe line" |
[10:00:37] | Captain_Murdoch: | if your player is running faster than the recorder, you will always have the problem unless you slow the player down by either using timestretch or possibly with the video as timebase option. |
[10:01:05] | Captain_Murdoch: | if it runs out of data, it has to stop playing until it gets more data. |
[10:02:08] | Captain_Murdoch: | what else do you think it can do if the player catches up to realtime and has to wait on more data from the recorder? |
[10:03:33] | awilkins: | I don't think the player is running faster than the recorder, at least, I think not |
[10:03:48] | awilkins: | If you wind back and leave it playing for hours, it doesn't happen again. |
[10:04:23] | Captain_Murdoch: | so maybe it's starting up too quick then and hovering too close to realtime. |
[10:05:15] | awilkins: | I think that's the problem – that it starts playing too close tot he front of the buffer |
[10:06:07] | awilkins: | If it was the player playing too fast, you'd expect it to take a small amount of time to occur, but it's right from the start of LiveTV |
[10:07:14] | awilkins: | Hmm, I'm not using OpenGL vsync or video as timebase |

[10:10:18] | jblack: | I did the math to get the feel of what .95% would be like. Watching a 30 minute show at 0.95% speed would take just over 2 days. |
[10:11:11] | jblack: | That would feel almost as bad as watching all 6 star wars back to back. |
[10:11:23] | Captain_Murdoch: | big difference... timestretch will only go at 50% anyway, so it'd only take an hour with audio. if you used the other slow mode without audio it would be much longer. |

[11:38:49] | fourcheeze: | any ideas why my backend keeps crashing during playback freezing the frontend? |
[11:38:49] | LLyric: | See, it seems to be 93MB into swap now |
[11:38:56] | fourcheeze: | seems to be nothing related in the logs |
[11:39:10] | GlemSom: | Well, I'm really new with mythtv (just installed it from the gentoo tree)... And I'm OK with the themes there... :P |
[11:39:28] | Bernardo: | fourcheeze: I've seen that with the "regular" drivers, before I updated it to the v4l-dvb branch |
[11:39:44] | Bernardo: | fourcheeze: but I have two older analog tuners |
[11:40:43] | fourcheeze: | Bernardo I have 2 dvb tuners |
[11:40:47] | fourcheeze: | 1 pci and 1 usb |
[11:40:59] | fourcheeze: | but they aren't necessarily in use when the back end crashes |
[11:41:05] | fourcheeze: | it seems to be only during playback |
[11:41:41] | eniac: | how well does the emulators for games work ? |
[11:43:53] | ** juski is thinking about starting a bounty to have framegrabber support removed from mythtv. because he's sick to DEATH of people's lame problems with them ** | |

[11:44:32] | juski: | eniac: xmame works really really well |
[11:45:09] | Bernardo: | juski: please don't... some of us can't afford first choice cards |
[11:45:15] | eniac: | with a remote controller ? |
[11:45:54] | juski: | can't afford them? you can't afford NOT to have em! ;) |
[11:46:20] | fourcheeze: | Bernardo so now your backend never crashes? |
[11:46:45] | juski: | eniac: no, with game controllers / keyboards |
[11:46:50] | Bernardo: | well, I've ordered a dvb-c card, and now the mediacenter pc has two other included cards, maybe I can get rid of my frame grabbers... :) |

[11:47:10] | fourcheeze: | Bernardo definitely the way to go |
[11:47:29] | fourcheeze: | currently I'm using the ubuntu packages for the backend – is building from source likely to help it not to crash? |
[11:47:30] | Bernardo: | fourcheeze: still too early to tell, but these two days it hasn't crashed yet, even mythcommflag won't segfault as it did |
[11:47:53] | Bernardo: | I'm running kubuntu too, all I did build was the v4l-dvb source |
[11:47:57] | PaulWay: | I'm using the ATRPMS version of MythTV packaged for FC6, and I can't find nuvexport or MythTV.pm in packages any more – anyone know about this? |
[11:48:13] | fourcheeze: | Bernardo is there a howto somewhere? |
[11:48:37] | juski: | linuxtv.org somewhere |
[11:49:01] | Bernardo: | I got the kernel source, expanded it in /usr/src, copyed /boot/config-linux-2.6.17-10-generic to /usr/src/linux/.config, and that was all I had to do to enable building v4l-dvb |

[22:45:05] | mistone: | maybe I will do that I don't even know how to do that |
[22:45:07] | Paladine: | you could even write a script to do it daily |
[22:45:23] | DVBMark: | apt-get install checkinstall and check it out, will let you create your own packages pretty easy |
[22:45:31] | mistone: | but whatever I will just wait I don't have xbox live I just keep it unplugged and everything works right now I dn't wanna fuck with it |
[22:45:45] | DVBMark: | lol |
[22:45:56] | Paladine: | you could setup your own private repo and add it to your sources list |
[22:46:05] | mistone: | lol that would be way to much work |
[22:46:06] | Paladine: | then run cron scripts to build all your packages daily from svn |
[22:46:15] | mistone: | wow, no thanks lol |
[22:46:24] | mistone: | I actually have a server tho :p |
[22:46:32] | Paladine: | that way the auto update notification in gnome would work |
[22:46:41] | Paladine: | it would tell you when you packages are built and ready |
[22:46:48] | mistone: | but yes I could do that but thats way to much work |
[22:46:56] | Paladine: | probably not uber work |
[22:47:07] | Paladine: | maybe half a day tops to research and setup |
[22:48:16] | Paladine: | I may even do it myself if I decide to go feisty instead of edgy on this box |
