[00:00:18] mchou: but he is obviously the "prime suspect"
[00:01:33] mchou: "If the glove doesnt fit, you must acquit!"
[00:01:49] sigger_: does reiser (i.e. whatever's for sale) have any commercial product or any revenue
[00:01:50] Jasper: huh?
[00:01:54] mchou: oops, I'm sorry your honor, wrong trial.
[00:01:54] threedaymonk: WOOOHOOO
[00:01:54] Jasper: what's up with reiserFS?
[00:02:22] ** threedaymonk set backend server ip to192.168.0.131 instead of 127.0.0.1 and it all works **
[00:02:35] mishehu: Jasper: want to buy Namesys?
[00:02:36] mchou: jams: more like what's up with Hans Reiser :)
[00:02:40] mishehu: you can get a great deal on it
[00:02:44] threedaymonk: I had been playing around with another client, and had changed that setting, but I only just rebooted
[00:02:59] Jasper: mishehu ?
[00:03:01] mishehu: I almost would, except I know little about filesystems.
[00:03:13] mishehu: other than what the diffs are.
[00:03:24] Jasper: reiserfs uses the tree system if I recall correctly :P
[00:03:25] mishehu: Jasper: it's for sale to cover hans' legal fees
[00:03:27] Jasper: some kind of tree system that is
[00:03:32] Jasper: what did he do?
[00:04:00] mishehu: Jasper: donno, it's still up in the air. his wife is missing, it *appears* to be a homicide, and he's a suspect.
[00:04:00] mchou: Jasper: it is alleged that he killed his wife
[00:04:19] sigger_: can you imagine when Reiser is acquitted or released if you've bought the co? "Either your signature or your brains will be on the contract."
[00:04:40] mchou: sigger: haha!!

[00:06:52] mishehu: I've known too many russians in my life ;-)
[00:06:55] mchou: mishehu: why you say that?
[00:07:06] sigger_: ah, or sufather

[02:12:54] rexer: i think i need the realtime module in kernel..

[02:35:29] Zider: if it really is a standard .iso it should work, otherwise it has the wrong filename :P
[02:36:35] crudpuppy: welp, I need to get a better lirc file for this streamzap remote apparently
[02:36:36] dmz: it was working then i did an upgrade then it stopped

[02:36:46] crudpuppy: not many of the buttons work
[02:36:47] crudpuppy: lol
[02:37:01] crudpuppy: I can get into menus, but exit doesnt work to get back out
[02:37:59] GreyFoxx: dmz: Since your upgrade can you playback normal recordings ?
[02:38:37] dmz: yes
[02:39:03] dmz: but not iso or old nuv or some .mpg stuff, doesn't work with internal player & sound on file in the "video" folder
[02:39:11] GreyFoxx: what is the audio codec of the stuff that wont play?
[02:39:49] GreyFoxx: ok, varied codecs then

[02:43:15] dmz: one other question are .mkv formats supported in myth? if not any "easy" way to convert?
[02:43:25] GreyFoxx: jd86: If you change major revisions then yes you need to update QT
[02:43:36] jd86: wonderful :(
[02:43:36] GreyFoxx: so if you go from 4.0 -> 4.1~ or 5.0 you need to update qt
[02:43:42] jd86: i went from 4.1 to 5.0
[02:43:53] GreyFoxx: yeah update/recompile qt
[02:44:05] jd86: (methinks i need to do this for php?)
[02:44:13] jd86: (but i should probably ask that in php not here )
[02:44:22] kormoc: on gentoo?
[02:44:24] GreyFoxx: dmz: Myth supports whatever ffmpeg/libavcodec supports. N idea if it handles mkv as I've never had one to try it
[02:44:54] jd86: kormoc, yes
[02:45:18] kormoc: jd86, if you emerge gentoolkit, and run revdep-rebuild, it will find and re-emerge any packages that the mysql update broke
[02:45:20] Blaksmith: Hi.. got an odd error.. everything compiled and installed fine, but when I fire up mythtv-setup, (or anything related to mythtv), I get mythtv: error while loading shared libraries: libmythtv-0.20.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[02:45:20] Zider: revdep-rebuild
[02:45:27] Blaksmith: but, the file IS there..
[02:45:28] jd86: kormoc, oh yay!!
[02:45:40] kormoc: :)
[02:45:41] Zider: oh, too late :D
[02:45:50] GreyFoxx: Though to the xine or not question I can't really say. I use the internal player for all playback except for .mp4 files. Myth supports the video on those but no tthe AAC audio codec
[02:46:10] GreyFoxx: so for recordings, dvds and all videos ot her than mp4 I use the Internal player, for mp4 I use mplayer
[02:46:14] Blaksmith: that lib is in my /usr/local/lib dir
[02:46:28] jd86: oh wow this is going to be alot
[02:47:00] Zider: GreyFoxx: do you happen to know if it's a known problem that dvd playback stutters at scene switches when it's set to 4:3 zoom or 16:9 zoom?
[02:47:37] GreyFoxx: Zider: I've heard mention of some people seeing stutter at scene changes, regardless of zoom
[02:47:42] GreyFoxx: I've personally never seen it
[02:47:56] Zider: GreyFoxx: I only getit in zoom modes, not in "default" mode..
[02:48:07] GreyFoxx: Zider: Sounds bugtrac worthy
[02:48:16] Blaksmith: I have done ldconfig to re-load the lib db, and even rebooted as a suggestion by someone else. .. any help would be appreciated :)
[02:48:23] GreyFoxx: especially if you can mention aspecific DVD it always happens on
[02:48:37] Zider: and it's a celeron 2,6GHz so it shouldn't be a hardware issue
[02:49:03] kormoc: Blaksmith, if you run ldconfig -v it should output every lib it finds, can you make sure it's in that list?
[02:49:04] Zider: GreyFoxx: I could test it someday, to see if any dvd's are "lag free"
[02:49:23] Blaksmith: lemme try that kormoc
[02:49:41] Zider: GreyFoxx: and I guess I'd better learn how to do bug reports.. ;)
[02:50:07] Blaksmith: apparently, it's not
[02:51:31] Blaksmith: I think I may see why.. debian wants it in /usr/lib, not /usr/local/lib
[02:52:55] Blaksmith: ok, it fired up
[02:53:02] Blaksmith: thanks :)
[02:53:39] kormoc: your welcome :)

[03:23:41] `shr00m: what avi player r u using?
[03:24:00] gza: watching tv works 100% (full sound and everything). and avi files play 100% perfect picture no sound though
[03:24:09] gza: `shr00m: I think it's mplayer
[03:24:17] `shr00m: try mplayer -ao alsa
[03:24:21] kormoc: gza, mplayer doesn't support the audio codec?
[03:24:22] gza: whatever is the default on knoppmyth
[03:24:58] gza: never been a fan of mplayer (more of a vlc guy)
[03:25:20] Blaksmith: hrm.. is there any file to make the tables for mythconverg?
[03:25:27] gza: gonna upload an .mpg see if that makes a difference
[03:25:31] kormoc: gza, you could try the internal player (if it's myth 0.20 or so)
[03:25:36] kormoc: Blaksmith, mc.sql
[03:25:41] `shr00m: try playing the avi w/o myth just with mplayer with -ao alsa switch
[03:25:52] Blaksmith: that only created the db, but didn't make any tables
[03:26:04] kormoc: Blaksmith, when you run mythtv-setup, it will populate tables
[03:26:12] Blaksmith: ok
[03:26:19] kormoc: or at least, it should :P

[07:17:05] Blaksmith: ahh ok
[07:17:18] sid: GreyFoxx: So this is feasible?
[07:17:24] kormoc: sid, sure, you can do that fine, just remember, your keyboard/mouse will be shared between the displays
[07:18:06] GreyFoxx: sid: Yup, configure controls to not conflict is your biggest problem
[07:18:24] GreyFoxx: if you are good with X configuration then it's not hard

[07:19:06] sid: awesome, I'm going to do it like that then.
[07:19:08] kormoc: sid, you can get lirc to only control the frontend, for sure
[07:19:21] kormoc: sid, but the keyboard will follow focus/mouse
[07:19:22] GreyFoxx: You can't tell myth to ignore the keyboard, as as long as myth dpoesn't have screen focus IT's fine. Or use a second X server and run myth in that
[07:19:40] GreyFoxx: X server 1 uses VGA/DVI output + keybvoard
[07:19:46] GreyFoxx: X server 2 uses TV out

[07:20:55] sid: I have a ati 9100 card(works awesome with free/libre "ati" driver from xorg), do I need a dualhead card? Or can I just get a tv-out card, and use two cards at the same time?
[07:21:06] GreyFoxx: kormoc: I've done it in the past, so it should be doable
[07:21:10] kormoc: fair nuff
[07:21:13] sid: Or does it not work like that, you can only use one video out card at the same time? or is it more effecient to have a dual head nvidia card?
[07:21:56] GreyFoxx: sid: In general we tell people to avoid ATI cards as the ati drivers tend to suck or be major pains to get going whereas the nvidia ones usually work very well and are often updated
[07:21:57] Blaksmith: couldn't find demux for >/dev/video0<
[07:22:41] sid: GreyFoxx: But this is an older card, and I believe the registers are documented so xorg people wrote a driver for it fully supported.

[07:25:36] sid: I could get two 320 gig barracuda's from seagate(5 year warranties with each), then a nvidia dual head card, a happauge capture card, ir, and I'm set.
[07:26:10] sid: What is a good nvidia dual head card to get?
[07:26:18] kormoc: sid, I'd highly recommend the Microsoft Media Center remote. it's usb, also serves as an kickass blaster if you ever need one, and is a great remote
[07:26:29] kormoc: sid, I'd go for a 6200 or better
[07:26:40] GreyFoxx: sid: When you say "dual head card" are you just referring to a card with a VGA/DVI + TV out ? Or something with dual dvi/vga's ?
[07:27:09] sid: GreyFoxx: Well I dunno, I have a planar monitor with vga in I think.
[07:27:15] GreyFoxx: kormoc: Is that what you are using these days ?
[07:27:17] sid: GreyFoxx: and my tv only has composite in.
[07:27:24] kormoc: GreyFoxx, aye
[07:27:36] GreyFoxx: Sid, so basically any nvidia card out there from the last 3 years :)
[07:27:37] sid: kormoc: What is a "blaster"?
[07:27:57] GreyFoxx: kormoc: Just to control the PC or is it a universal remote as well ?
[07:28:05] kormoc: sid, it's a ir trasmitter, I use it to control my satellite receiver so myth can record off of it.
[07:28:27] kormoc: GreyFoxx, PC mostly, but it has programmable buttons for tv power and volume, which is all I need
[07:28:36] GreyFoxx: My grandmother wants me to hook her up so I need to snag a remote
[07:28:40] GreyFoxx: cool
[07:28:44] sid: maybe I'll switch to satelite, so I can get all the free channels, that still work?
[07:28:44] GreyFoxx: That'd be fine for her too
[07:28:55] sid: Can you write to your card and get all the channels?
[07:29:15] kormoc: sid, no, I only get the channels I pay for
[07:29:18] GreyFoxx: What free channels ? :)
[07:30:12] Blaksmith: ok, stupid questino.. how to do you install a .deb file?
[07:30:15] kormoc: GreyFoxx, yeah, xris has in the contrib the lirc config he and I use for them, so little setup is needed. might need to tweak a little, but most people seem to get it right off the bat
[07:30:19] sid: Blaksmith: dpkg -i file.deb
[07:30:41] sid: What would be cool is integrated bittorrent so people in the MythTV community can share shows.
[07:30:42] GreyFoxx: Korm: Sweet
[07:30:46] Blaksmith: thanks
[07:30:51] GreyFoxx: sid: Never gonna happen
[07:30:51] sid: ie, if they forgot to schedule, and they already pay for the channels
[07:30:52] xris: sid: ever so slightly illegal
[07:30:54] GreyFoxx: we wont allow it
[07:31:08] GreyFoxx: there was a bittorrent client out there people used but it will never be official
[07:31:10] sid: Well it's free software, so people have the freedom to do what they want with it.
[07:31:38] kormoc: sid, sure, but the developers requested that we keep this channel free of illegal stuff, so sure, do what you want, but don't talk about it in here
[07:31:47] sid: k
[07:32:04] xris: sid: yes. but with bt, never any official support

[07:32:44] kormoc: Marry Christmas!
[07:33:04] GreyFoxx: I should go back to bed since my little one will be up at some horribly early hour I'm sure
[07:33:10] ** kormoc laughs **

[07:33:38] kormoc: Drink some warm milk?

[07:33:59] kormoc: It'll be priceless I'm sure :)
[07:34:15] GreyFoxx: We got a new digital camera for it
[07:34:34] GreyFoxx: my old one was dying and we wanted to get a lot of shots of this year :)
[07:34:49] GreyFoxx: the old one survived 9261 pics, not bad to me
[07:35:08] kormoc: yeah, not bad at all
[07:35:31] kormoc: Mine is only on 3000 or so
[07:36:07] GreyFoxx: hehe a significant portion of my photos came after she showed up :)

[07:36:33] GreyFoxx: though I don't shove them in peoples faces to look at :)
[07:36:48] sid: I guess it's illegal depending on the country you live in.
[07:36:57] GreyFoxx: rexer: from an xterm/commandline restart mythfrontend with -O Theme=blue
[07:37:04] kormoc: sid, the majority of myth devs are in the US, so that's what we stick to in here
[07:37:13] xris: sid: and since this channel and most devs are in the US, we obey US laws.
[07:37:15] sid: ahh
[07:37:32] sid: But MythTV is probably violating thousands of patents, might as well do copyright law too. heh
[07:37:41] kormoc: likely not
[07:37:46] sid: not to say those patents should exist, they're crap..but technically still infringing.
[07:38:05] xris: sid: let's just say "we don't talk about it here" and leave it at that.
[07:38:10] GreyFoxx: No need to intentionally gain lawyers attention by officiall including support for something they like to sue you for :)
[07:38:14] kormoc: and patents are select-ably enforceable
[07:38:19] sid: same goes for copyright, not to say such a system(sharing with friends, society etc) should be illegal either. but technically it is.
[07:38:54] GreyFoxx: And either way, IRC channels are not democracies. Policies don;t need justification :)
[07:38:56] kormoc: so it's not actually illegal to do something that is patented until they tell you it's not, where as it's just illegal to violate a copy-right
[07:38:59] ** kormoc laughs **
[07:39:03] kormoc: so very true
[07:39:42] sid: I'm not trying to change policy, if the plugin already exists I have what I wanted anyway.
[07:39:59] sid: doesn't matter to me if it's officially supported or not, I just wanted to talk about it.(not to change policy)
[07:40:33] xris: sid: and the policy is not to talk about it. google exists for a reason
[07:40:42] GreyFoxx: Man, everytime I go looking for Myth hardware for someone I end up wanting to buy everything for me :)
[07:41:04] xris: GreyFoxx: I'd only have that problem if I had money.  :)
[07:41:40] GreyFoxx: hehe I don't now, Santa came and claimed by bank accounts and credit cards

[07:44:25] Blaksmith: ok, seeing if mplayer will compile from source
[07:46:26] sid: Blaksmith: Just apt-get build-dep mplayer; And get the source from mplayer's website.
[07:46:55] sid: Blaksmith: although the mplayer binary from marillat is very good, what is your reasoning for compiling from source?
[07:48:21] Blaksmith: because the libaa1 (one of the deps) won't install
[07:48:24] Blaksmith: even using apt-get
[07:48:50] sid: Blaksmith: What version of Debian GNU/Linux are you running?

[07:49:10] sid: Blaksmith: cat /etc/debian_version

[07:50:52] Blaksmith: http://rafb.net/p/OkKTM997.html
[07:51:15] sid: ok, that is your problem
[07:51:30] sid: You have sarge(stable) sources for debian.org and you have sid(unstable) sources for marillat's website.
[07:51:56] kormoc: so sid is unstable eh? that's good to know
[07:52:01] Blaksmith: the last two were for trying to get myth installed
[07:52:02] sid: Blaksmith: Change "sid" to "sarge" in your sources.list file.
[07:52:09] Blaksmith: k
[07:52:23] sid: Blaksmith: Did you install packages from marillat already?
[07:52:58] Blaksmith: don't think so.. .I ended up doing everything by hand to get myth to install
[07:53:17] sid: Blaksmith: Once you've made the change; apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade; apt-get install mplayer-nogui;

[07:56:57] Blaksmith: I just ran it overnight last night

[07:57:17] sid: unless you have 10 million files or something
[07:57:22] Blaksmith: I have 300g on this box
[07:57:38] kormoc: it only updates newer files then the last run
[07:57:41] sid: Well it doesn't matter how much data is on the drive, it's how many files.
[07:57:54] Blaksmith: millions of files
[07:58:01] sid: So you could have 10TB, and if it's only a few thousand files it should only take 3 minutes.

[15:03:36] The_Ball_: BULLE, i was thinking of that, but it should be possible just to run startx for the mythtv users and have .xinitrd file with mythfrontend and shutdown in it

[22:00:27] keir: then i wouldn't need to bother helpful devs like yourself
[22:00:27] kormoc: Video for Linux
[22:00:32] kormoc: I'm not a de
[22:00:35] kormoc: *dev
[22:00:43] kormoc: we're all just users in here, no devs
[22:01:22] kormoc: but video 4 linux is the standard for framegrabber cards, you picked a ivtv card, which requires a slightly different API due to the capability's of the card.
[22:01:33] keir: i see
[22:01:34] kormoc: if you wanted to use the stanard, you could have picked a card that supported it
[22:01:54] keir: i couldn't find any other cards on college st here in toronto when i was shopping
[22:01:57] keir: ah well
[22:02:13] keir: so ivtv-tune --device=2 (which is composite in according to ivtvctl -n) just re-shows help
[22:02:18] keir: no error message
[22:02:27] kormoc: you need to give the path to the device node
[22:02:39] kormoc: /dev/video0 likely
[22:02:53] keir: oh
[22:03:01] comradevik (comradevik!n=victor@69.37.255.117) has quit ("Leaving")
[22:03:01] kormoc: sorry, ivtv-tune is slightly different
[22:03:07] kormoc: you set the input via ivtvctl
[22:03:19] kormoc: ivtvctl -p=2
[22:03:25] kormoc: and then ivtv-tune blah
[22:03:44] kormoc: you use both of those tools to do slightly different things
[22:03:54] keir: ok
[22:03:56] keir: hmm
[22:04:06] keir: ivtvctl -p=2 says 'video input set to 0'
[22:04:16] keir: no matter what i put for the device
[22:04:20] kormoc: try
[22:04:21] kormoc: -p 2
[22:04:24] kormoc: no =
[22:04:47] keir: perfect
[22:04:57] keir: AWESOME!
[22:05:01] keir: wow, video!
[22:07:46] keir: still left: remote control, IR blaster (need to buy one), finding channel listings
[22:08:17] kormoc: remote/ir blaster, I love my microsoft usb mce remote, it's a remote and blaster in one, very very nice
[22:08:29] kormoc: channel listings, if you're in the us, zap2it is your place, else xmltv
[22:08:46] keir: kormoc: i actually got that already. it doesn't say antything about a 'blaster' though
[22:08:59] kormoc: keir, the usb one?
[22:09:00] keir: on the back it has two stereo ports
[22:09:02] keir: kormoc, yup
[22:09:04] ** kormoc nods **
[22:09:12] keir: one says '1' and the other '2'
[22:09:16] kormoc: you need lirc 0.8.1 for them to work, but then they just work awesomely
[22:09:17] keir: is it a blaster too?
[22:09:22] ** kormoc nods **
[22:09:26] keir: AWESOME!!!!!
[22:09:29] keir: i wasn't sure
[22:09:30] kormoc: should have come with two things to plug into those
[22:09:34] keir: hmm
[22:09:37] keir: it only came with one
[22:10:03] kormoc: well, mine came with two, but it was part of a bundle, so it might be different in other bundles/stand alone
[22:10:14] keir: i only need one though, right?
[22:10:19] kormoc: aye
[22:10:33] keir: wicked
[22:10:51] keir: is the 2 output?
[22:10:59] kormoc: hrm?
[22:11:24] keir: as in, there are two places i could plug the extension in for a blaster
[22:11:33] kormoc: ahh, they are both output
[22:11:34] keir: they are not labeled as blaster on input extension
[22:11:38] keir: sweet
[22:11:39] kormoc: I use #1
[22:11:46] kormoc: not sure if lirc supports #2 or not
