[00:00:32] Kelerion: hows the demo box going?
[00:00:40] Juski: heh. ooo 0.19-fixes has taste... no ITV picked up in the scan
[00:00:53] Kelerion: lol
[00:01:23] Juski: time to import a channels.conf
[00:03:10] Juski: svn was fun to try, but too unstable except when running it with gdb. those pesky segfaults never came up with gdb on the case
[00:03:45] Kelerion: anything new and wonderful while I've been away? a month or so?
[00:05:24] Juski: interactive!
[00:05:45] Kelerion: well its been a month or so now that she's had mce.. so next week is decision time.. mce or back to myth
[00:05:45] Juski: dvb radio too
[00:05:55] Kelerion: interactive?
[00:06:02] Juski: mheg – red button
[00:06:08] Juski: for DVB-T
[00:06:13] Kelerion: ahh
[00:06:26] Juski: how's MCE been then? bad?
[00:06:37] Kelerion: good points and bad to be fair
[00:06:51] ru_ (ru_!n=ru@wbs-196-46-70-221.wbs.co.za) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:07:10] Juski: waf – high/low ?
[00:07:14] Kelerion: I seem to get a better picture... but the scheduler sucks.. and the fact I can't properly record to a remote machine share is stupid
[00:07:57] ru_: hi guys
[00:07:57] ru_: i cant set my audio sampling rate back to 32000
[00:07:57] ru_: i set it to 48000 to test
[00:08:19] Kelerion: middle.. she loves the picture quality.. hates when my programs get higher priority – and therefore hers don't get recorded because the recorder sucks.. lol
[00:08:33] ru_: and now myth wont let me alter it ?
[00:08:43] Kelerion: and it ain't smart enought to know when it's recorded a program before
[00:08:58] Juski: Kelerion: really?! fuck a duck
[00:09:07] |splat| (|splat|!n=splat@c-68-55-172-179.hsd1.md.comcast.net) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[00:09:09] Kelerion: so am betting on a return to myth :)))
[00:09:19] Juski: find it hard to believe the quality is better
[00:09:45] Kelerion: to be fair.. it's probably my lack of understanding of ivtv and filters
[00:09:48] Juski: ru_: you any good with sql?
[00:10:05] mchou: Kelerion: hehe, so your wife finally crying uncle?
[00:10:30] mchou: Kelerion: regarding MCE, that is
[00:10:32] Kelerion: but the picture seems brighter and sharper.. which does give me hope because I now know the card is capable of that

[00:10:56] Juski: it was _good_ before I mean – but now it's great
[00:11:01] mchou: Kelerion: you using the pvr tuner or svideo?
[00:11:02] Kelerion: I remember a post about dne
[00:11:07] Kelerion: svideo
[00:11:10] ru_: Juski, yeah i know my way around i
[00:11:10] ru_: i looked in the db, but cant for the life of me find where the setting is?
[00:11:11] ru_: I looked in settings tbl, but couldnt find anything
[00:11:13] Kelerion: coming from sky
[00:11:24] Juski: ru_: I'll have a peek in the DB

[00:13:27] mchou: Kelerion: you didnt back up you old myth install?
[00:13:41] Kelerion: of course.. at least the db
[00:13:54] mchou: Kelerion: man, I would have kept the hard disk
[00:14:07] mchou: just replace HDD and go......
[00:14:32] Kelerion: it won't take long.. will be up and running in a couple of hours
[00:14:39] mchou: lol
[00:14:46] Kelerion: plus am gonna try dapper
[00:15:04] mchou: myth has NEVER just taken me just "a couple of hrs"
[00:15:40] Kelerion: have done it a few times.. the updates are stored on a local repo..so that cuts it down by a long time
[00:15:49] mchou: it's at least one afternoon.
[00:15:55] mchou: 4–6 hrs
[00:16:50] Kelerion: only difference I'll have is that I've lost a machine.. which used to be my backend.. so will have to have a combo for a week or two
[00:17:17] Juski: ru_: try looking in the codecparams table

[00:18:25] Juski: I managed to get myth going on breezy in < 2hours from a flat HDD. when I say 'going' I mean watching & recording TV – nothing like plugins & stuff
[00:18:53] Kelerion: yup.. same here
[00:18:55] Juski: it worked and that was about it
[00:19:18] Juski: no fine tuning – it's the tweaks that take the most time
[00:19:27] Kelerion: yup
[00:19:42] Juski: getting it to a stage where it'd have a high enough WAF.. that's something else ;)
[00:19:58] Kelerion: having a good backup of the db helps
[00:20:25] Kelerion: mine was setup to mysqldump and email me it nightly
[00:20:51] Juski: oh fuck. even importing a channels.conf hasn't done it right

[00:21:11] Juski: may I just add a proviso to the above that I was using a stable release
[00:21:40] Juski: Kelerion: no – this time I got ITV & radio channels
[00:21:52] ** dscoular thinks fondly of 0.18.1 **
[00:22:02] Juski: gonna have to have words with stuarta about this
[00:22:28] Juski: I can cheat though – just dump the dtv_multiplex & channel table from my other box
[00:22:51] Kelerion: in linux... there is no cheating.. there's just lateral thinking :P
[00:23:47] Juski: I'll try one more time – this time with a different scan option
[00:23:55] Juski: see if it's looking for a vdr style list
[00:24:40] dscoular: I always wind up having to edit the dtv_multiplex and channels table.
[00:25:23] Juski: it was brilliant in 0.18.1 – there must've been a good reason to change so much that it's ended up this broken
[00:26:32] dscoular: I hope so... there has been an incredible amount of work done by danielk and others... it's just a shame that it's not really stabilised yet

[00:27:33] Juski: oh yeh Kelerion I forgot the killer thing about what svn is likely to have... mytharchive
[00:27:43] dscoular: svn (non 0.19-fixes) ?
[00:27:52] Juski: yeh that one
[00:28:01] Kelerion: which does?
[00:28:16] Kelerion: dvd stuff?
[00:28:23] Juski: yup
[00:28:32] dscoular: I haven't been brave enough to look at trunk svn
[00:28:35] Kelerion: oooooh
[00:28:38] Juski: select from yer recorded shows & burn to deeveedee
[00:28:47] Juski: very alpha though
[00:29:02] Kelerion: at least its there.. that means its being worked on
[00:29:13] Juski: I'm just getting this install working then I'm gonna swap HDDs & go all out testing
[00:29:18] dscoular: Hope their size estimate takes into account the cutlist (unlike mythburn)
[00:30:04] Juski: I recorded from 301 on freeview & it wouldn't work in mytharchive – mythreplex couldn't find the audio PID
[00:30:06] dscoular: I wish lvm snapshots were easier to use... then you could just snapshot, try svn, rollback

[02:49:11] dscoular: LLyric, well that's because maxchannels is zero based and DISPLAY_CHANS is one based.
[02:49:35] LLyric: dscoular: yes, which is why I think we need to change *both*

[08:07:02] asd26: help
[08:07:24] asd26: I'm from australia, and when i try to scan for channels it's stuck at 50%
[08:07:49] asd26: using a digital tuner
[08:08:47] asd26: i rememeber using mythtv before
[08:09:25] asd26: i had to do some secret ctrl alt something to get into prompt and select, analog, digital for australia, but i have no idea how
[08:09:40] asd26: now
[08:11:04] dscoular: asd26, DVB-T tuning always seems to stick at 50%
[08:11:09] dscoular: in australia
[08:11:23] dscoular: asd26, you can set it to ignore timeouts
[08:11:46] dscoular: asd26, or you can do individual transport based scans.
[08:12:04] dscoular: asd26, finally, you can try importing a channels.conf if those techniques fail.
[08:12:07] X-Rob: ooh, that was going to be my next question – what DVT-B cards are supported for .au signals?
[08:12:45] asd26: well i'm using DTV1000T i've read posts that it worked fine with mythtv
[08:12:58] X-Rob: asd26, where'd you buy it from? (online?)
[08:13:07] dscoular: X-Rob, erm... I haven't heard of any that don't... I confirm that the tda1004x based Nova-T and the AverMedia DVB-T USB-2.0. devices work.
[08:13:09] asd26: dudes can u watch record and watch at the same time?
[08:13:21] X-Rob: woo, USB ones work? *impressed*
[08:13:21] asd26: computerfair $83 dollars
[08:13:32] dscoular: asd26, all live tv is a recording... so yes
[08:13:35] X-Rob: dscoular, thanks. You rock.
[08:13:56] asd26: dudes i can't wait to get this thign up
[08:14:03] X-Rob: actually, now that I think about it, if USB ones work, is there any hassle with me using _multiple_ usb receivers? The via board I want to use only has one PCI slot
[08:14:22] asd26: but it locks at 50%, i have to so special keys to get into prompt selection screen or something
[08:15:18] asd26: i used myhthv a while back, three months ago with a scrap 320x240 analog card, i had to do ctrl alt something
[08:15:21] dscoular: asd26, I can't run it right now but from memory isn't there a scan "type" in the first screen... or advanced options or something ?
[08:16:14] dscoular: X-Rob, I don't know about multiple usb-2.0 tuners... for me one PCI one and one USB-2.0 one is enoug
[08:16:34] X-Rob: dscoular, good point. I'll probably stick with that.
[08:17:08] asd26: video sources seems to be it
[08:17:10] X-Rob: Wifey has finally come across to the idea of having a proper box.. We've been using an xbox for a while, but I just 'discovered' I had a spare 17" LCD monitor that we could stick up on the wall.
[08:18:14] asd26: video sources, I write a name australia, select tv_grab_au
[08:18:19] asd26: finish
[08:18:48] asd26: then it locks at 50%, i assume it triggers a script, which i then need a secret key commbiantions to get into
[08:19:28] dscoular: Hit Alt-TAB... is your console window prompting you to run mythfilldatabase ?

[08:37:23] dscoular: Will Simon know who X-Rob is if I mention your tag ?

[08:40:35] X-Rob: dscoular, yeah you can – but chan_sccp is as ugly as a hat full of arseholes and isn't all that reliable.
[08:40:53] dscoular: hee hee
[08:41:11] dscoular: Maybe I'll just wait till they setup sip on callmanager 5
[08:41:18] X-Rob: there are a couple of attempts happening to rewrite the sccp stuff, some of which I'm sure will work.
[08:41:21] asd26: audio is working!!!
[08:41:26] X-Rob: asd26, woo!
[08:41:26] sixy: is it possible to cotrol myth with irpty?
[08:42:30] X-Rob: dscoular, the only site I know of that's actually using chan_sccp in production is using it purely as a gateway. You dial '555' on the cisco phone, and that gives you a dialtone on the asterisk box. There's no sanity working between them.
[08:43:21] dscoular: I tried to port Paul V's skinny windoze phone to linux but his skinny implementation was a couple of revs behind the current CM... it worked but a couple keys were dead coz of this... I gave up since I was told sip was coming.
[08:43:28] asd26: i cna't even play HDTV back it's too much for my pc

[08:44:49] asd26: mabe i need to change the encoding options
[08:45:06] dscoular: Did you notice Paul V. wrote mythphone too
[08:45:17] X-Rob: dscoular, hardware specs for me – via 1ghz, 512m, 2.6.9-blah – am I going to have issues with hdtv to vga?

[23:29:59] Mattwj2005: any of you guys have 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, etc soundcards in your frontends?
[23:30:08] Zider: yeah
[23:30:39] Mattwj2005: sweet...how is the linux support on that? does myth support it?
[23:31:02] Zider: linux supports it just fine
[23:31:18] Zider: dunno if mythtv itself supports more channels, since tv usually is stereo ;)
[23:31:42] Mattwj2005: dang that was my question....I thought maybe it did some virtual 5.1 stuff
[23:31:43] Zider: and it uses external player for dvd
[23:31:57] DrNickRiviera (DrNickRiviera!n=riviera@81-178-218-91.dsl.pipex.com) has quit ("Download Gaim: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/")
[23:32:02] Zider: you can get alsa to upmix stereo to 5.1 tho
[23:32:34] Mattwj2005: what does the upmix do exactly?
[23:33:20] Zider: I guess copy right channel to center, right front and right left.. and do similar to left channel..
[23:35:09] Mattwj2005: oh okay cool
[23:35:13] SirPageno: Mattwj2005, AC3 audio (i.e. 5.1) is just passed through the system and out of the sound card, from there your surround sound processor handles it
[23:35:37] X-Rob (X-Rob!n=rob-x@dsl-202-173-151-24.qld.westnet.com.au) has left #mythtv-users ("Leaving")
[23:35:44] SirPageno: it's actually easier to handle AC3 then the PCM stuff, almost no processing required by linux
[23:35:46] Mattwj2005: oh okay....I thought this was be cool little addition
[23:35:53] Mattwj2005: sweet
[23:36:51] SirPageno: you'll still need to send the S/PDIF (either optical or coax) to your surround sound processor 9SSP)
[23:37:24] Zider: you could use a bunch of analog cables too.. but that's just.. wrong.. ;)
[23:37:43] Mattwj2005: lol....actually I was just thinking analog ;)
[23:37:55] SirPageno: most sound cards don't support the surround sound decoding
[23:38:14] SirPageno: so there won't be analog outputs for FL,FR,FC,SL,SR, and LFE
[23:38:16] Mattwj2005: I was thinking more the $30 solution instead of a $300 solution
[23:38:21] Zider: SirPageno: you mean linux doesn't support doing it?
[23:38:44] SirPageno: Zider, that's not what i meant
[23:38:51] Zider: Mattwj2005: 5.1 cards with spdif are cheap
[23:38:52] Mattwj2005: yeah shouldn't there be analog outs on 5.1 sound cards?
[23:39:14] SirPageno: there are analog outs on 5.1 cards, but that's just plain ole stereo
[23:39:16] Mattwj2005: yeah I saw one for like $30 I all ready have speakers
[23:39:31] Mattwj2005: what about for the other channels?
[23:39:32] Zider: SirPageno: so what did you mean?
[23:39:57] SirPageno: Mattwj2005, ok, the SPDIF is a digital signal, that has all the channels on it,
[23:40:08] SirPageno: it has to be decoded to produce the 6 analog channels
[23:40:14] SirPageno: that is done by the SSP
[23:40:43] SirPageno: I don't know if there are sound cards that do that, if there are, then I don't know if linux has drivers to support them
[23:41:05] Zider: both my onboard audio does it
[23:41:08] SirPageno: I _do_ know getting the digital data out on the SPDIF is very easy
[23:41:11] Dibblah: Nforce2.
[23:41:17] Dibblah: Under Windows.
[23:41:20] Zider: intel
[23:41:25] Dibblah: Growf.
[23:41:37] Mattwj2005: hmm
[23:41:41] Zider: ICH5 and 6 I believe it is
[23:41:54] SirPageno: besides, it will probably be higher quality keeping it digital until it hits your SSP anyway
[23:42:02] Zider: SSP?

[23:42:49] Zider: ah
[23:43:33] Mattwj2005: all I am looking for is a cheap soundcard with analog outs for each of the channels....so I can hook up two speakers per connector
[23:43:41] Zider: well, both mine can output 5.1 thru analog outs.. so I guessed most cards could.. :P
[23:44:25] Mattwj2005: sounds good Zider :)
[23:45:00] Mattwj2005: hey any of you guys know how to set linux up to just pass the cd audio instead of trying to decode the cd digitally?
[23:45:03] Zider: no, it doesn't.. it's analog ;)
[23:45:18] Mattwj2005: hahah :-P
[23:45:22] Zider: Mattwj2005: if it's difital it's NOT decoded
[23:45:22] Zider: digital
[23:45:28] Zider: that's the whole idea
[23:46:03] Mattwj2005: I unplugged my connector to my sound card and the cd audio still plays badly
