[00:13:43] sneezer: thanks for the tip — lets see how the compile goes

[00:16:23] sneezer: if I get a directory that I compiled a program in — will I have to recompile if I'm on the same distro/arch?
[00:17:20] deniidil: what do you mean
[00:19:28] sneezer: I am copying a folder that I got and compiled from (got it from svn) another computer... will I have to compile it again?
[00:20:30] deniidil: you wouldn't have to if everything on the two systems is identical
[00:20:36] deniidil: but i highly recommend you recompile
[00:20:42] deniidil: because identical is extremely unlikely
[00:20:52] sneezer: its identical
[00:20:54] sneezer: same arch and distro
[00:21:06] sneezer: same kernel too
[00:21:24] deniidil: i still recommend recompiling
[00:21:35] sneezer: I'll make install and see if it works
[00:21:49] sneezer: is there a way to list how much ram you have in a computer?
[00:22:03] deniidil: cat /proc/meminfo
[00:23:30] d64: free
[00:23:35] deniidil: ?
[00:23:39] sneezer: yeah — i figured that...
[00:23:44] deniidil: hehe
[00:23:51] sneezer: if I do make distclean will it wipe the folder clean of compiled stuff?
[00:23:56] deniidil: um... if you're using KDE pull up info center
[00:24:01] Agrajag-: deniidil: use top. note that free ram isn't a useful figure at all
[00:24:07] Agrajag-: err sneezer rather
[00:24:25] d64: the +/- bufffers/cache line in "free" is somewhat useful
[00:24:31] sneezer: so the line mem: is my real ram?
[00:24:36] d64: it gives some idea of how much mem actually is free
[00:25:03] deniidil: hmm
[00:25:23] deniidil: i have two 80GB identical drives... thinking of using them as LVM (system drive is 15G) but i've never setup one....
[00:25:29] deniidil: any thoughts for/against using LVM to store my vids?
[00:25:36] sneezer: yay lvm
[00:25:39] sneezer: lvm is sexy
[00:25:58] d64: i've only used lvm on one drive
[00:26:00] sneezer: deniidil, if I do a make distclean will that force it to recompile?
[00:26:06] d64: but i don't see a reason why not, really
[00:26:25] sneezer: I'm setting up lvm right now — so if you want we can both go through it
[00:27:11] deniidil: make clean should be good enough
[00:27:43] deniidil: i'm still installing prereqs of myth's various dependancies

[00:36:57] alex777: anyone able to help me with this error from mythweb ? http://pastebin.com/647136
[00:37:23] sneezer: you have a different version of mythweb than mythbackend
[00:37:48] alex777: it can't be, it worked a few hours ago
[00:38:01] alex777: and I installed it using knoppmyth
[00:38:25] sneezer: duno... 26 is 0.19 stable — so just copy the files over...
[00:39:01] the-dead: how do i scan the tuner on my tv card for channels? xmltv doesn't give me the frequencies

[00:51:39] sneezer: marcus2, why did you upgrade?
[00:51:47] marcus2: i just got another tuner card
[00:51:50] deniidil: .......

[00:52:31] deniidil: i've created the Physical Volumes on two different identical 80GB disks with 1 diskwide ext3 partition, created a volume group and activated, created a logical volume on it
[00:52:32] sneezer: marcus2, okay — is this the new tuner that has bad reception? or the old one?

[00:53:57] marcus2: i really wish i had a normal (non-pc) tuner around to test out
[00:54:41] sneezer: deniidil, I have a volume group and its activated and I don't want to remove it so I guess I need — so I don't need to do 11.2 – 11.4 which brings me to vgextend
[00:56:01] eiggirC: Can I strip the audio off a recording and make a mp3 of it ?

[00:57:05] deniidil: and i found the answer to my question on ibm.com
[00:57:45] deniidil: once the LV is setup that gives you the /dev/[volume_group_name]/[logical volume name] device you treat it like you would /dev/hdc1 and mkfs -t ext3 ... and mount it that way
[00:58:16] eiggirC: WHiTE^^BOX: thanks dude.

[00:59:02] someguy0500o5: hey all, I have a weird issue... I have connected everything to MythTV, and everything seems to be functioning fine, but the only channel I can get access to is 6 (NECN). Whenever I try to change the channel, I only see snow. I tried connecting a regular TV to the same cable input, and it showed all channels as it should. I am running KnoppMyth, with an AMD Athlon 1ghZ 516mg RAM, and using a Hauppauge PVR-350. Any idea
[00:59:36] someguy0500o5: *512

[01:00:11] someguy0500o5: and only 6 comes in
[01:00:44] WHiTE^^BOX: EIT scan?
[01:00:44] deniidil: does it matter if i use mysql 4.1 or 5.0?
[01:00:45] mmead: does the tv show 2–4, 7–13?
[01:01:00] someguy0500o5: haven't tried EIT

[01:01:44] the-dead: You _MUST_ run 'mythfilldatabase --manual the first time, instead of just 'mythfilldatabase'. Your grabber does not provide channel numbers, so you have to set them manually. <-- does mythtv supports grabbing the channels from the tuner and NOT from the xmltv thing?
[01:01:54] WHiTE^^BOX: hdtv?

[01:25:20] WHiTE^^BOX: then from source.. or get the package else where,.. its broken.
[01:25:27] deniidil: jrthegoob: says what in the docs?
[01:25:34] jrthegoob: the message board says bttv though
[01:25:57] WHiTE^^BOX: yes
[01:26:02] WHiTE^^BOX: ati uses bttv
[01:26:11] deniidil: hrm :/
[01:26:16] deniidil: wtf
[01:26:22] Juski: good luck getting ATI crap to work
[01:26:22] WHiTE^^BOX: hauppauge x50 ivvt
[01:26:37] Juski: all-in-wonder why it won't work in Linux ;-)
[01:26:38] WHiTE^^BOX: heh same from me
[01:26:46] jeff-a: jrthegoob — I wouldn't expect very good quality though... Get yourself a Hauppauge PVR-x50 card if you want good quality...
[01:26:56] deniidil: ATI Video cards = teh awesome (except for XvMC), ATI Video Capture Cards = teh suck
[01:27:19] Juski: only some older cards will work – and then mainly the ones not part of vga cards
[01:27:54] WHiTE^^BOX: and the ati cards u get for free with a happy meal
[01:27:58] jeff-a: deniidil – I don't know if I agree with the first part either — I put a Radeon 9200 in my A64 3000 sysem and it couldn't play HD...
[01:28:15] Juski: I've got an AIW-Pro (rage128) and it's a total PoS
[01:28:16] jeff-a: deniidil – I dropped in a GF 5500, and it plays perfectly...
[01:28:20] SlicerDicer- (SlicerDicer-!n=Slicer@macceketh.net) has quit (Remote closed the connection)
[01:28:35] deniidil: jeff-a: that's because of XvMC
[01:28:44] deniidil: _ONLY_ time i'd buy an nVidia card is for a mythbox
[01:28:45] WHiTE^^BOX: nvidia / hauppauge and microsoft rc :D
[01:28:49] Juski: wouldn't work right in windows, never mind linux, so I got 3 proper tuners
[01:28:59] Juski: anyway...
[01:29:08] deniidil: hrm... wtf why is ./configure giving me "DVD playback no"
[01:29:12] Juski (Juski!n=Juski@spc1-salf1-5-0-cust7.bagu.broadband.ntl.com) has quit (""sleepy time"")
[01:29:18] jeff-a: deniidil – It didn't even show a picture with HD with the 9200... Standard-definition worked fine, but HD didn't show at all...
[01:29:50] deniidil: jeff-a: sounds like your driver settings were bad
[01:29:58] deniidil: though the 9200 = low end board
[01:30:02] jeff-a: WHiTE^^BOX: Yeah, the M$ RC is great — I have two of them... Thats about the only MC product that I love...
[01:30:25] WHiTE^^BOX: :D agree on that ;)
[01:30:59] WHiTE^^BOX: only bad thing in my mythbox is the maxtor hdd

[01:31:51] jeff-a: Hey, can I use a dash or dot in the channel numbers with .19 now?
[01:31:53] WHiTE^^BOX: mythtvsetup should add it in /dev
[01:31:57] jeff-a: (for HD channels)
[01:32:21] WHiTE^^BOX: hmm dunno
[01:32:55] deniidil: hey guys
[01:33:21] WHiTE^^BOX: loveeee mythstream :D

[02:01:02] achew22: when you type mythtv it goes straight into view mode

[02:21:11] Beirdo: I have used source for about a year now
[02:21:28] havoc: Beirdo: yeah, but aren't you one of the guys writing it?
[02:21:40] Beirdo: nah, not at this point
[02:21:53] rtsai: there are two models of pvr500. The "old" one has a Philips tuner and is well-supported. The "new" one has a Samsung tuner and is not quite there yet. I ordered my pvr500 from newegg about 2 months ago and it's a Samsung, and it doesn't work very well
[02:21:59] Beirdo: I work on other stuff external to myth though

[02:24:33] rtsai: The ivtv mailing list has reports that they don't tune very well. And mine ... doesn't tune very well.
[02:24:41] havoc: ok
[02:24:46] rtsai: I can only get three channels, and not very well (static, no audio)
[02:24:53] havoc: gah
[02:25:08] rtsai: The current hypothesis is that the built-in fm tuner is causing interference or something, so the ivtv people need to figure out how to turn it off
[02:25:12] havoc: *that* goes beyond 'not working very well'
[02:25:22] havoc: ah
[02:25:22] rtsai: it works fine in windows

[02:25:49] havoc: heh, that was actually a typo
[02:25:52] rtsai: i'm saying the hardware is fine, so it's software
[02:25:57] havoc: right
[02:26:10] rtsai: if you're considering pvr-x00 you should lurk on ivtv
[02:26:17] rtsai: the website isn't very complete
[02:26:24] havoc: but if I want myth working in say the next month I should choose a different card
[02:26:37] havoc: rtsai: #ivtv on freenode?
[02:26:59] rtsai: AFAIK there's only #ivtv-dev. I only read the mailing lists
[02:27:21] rtsai: havoc: like I said, if you get a Philips tuner then you'll probably be fine
[02:27:44] havoc: rtsai: what about the 250 and 350 from newegg?
[02:27:50] havoc: those still philips?

[02:31:06] havoc: rtsai: what would you choose and why: pvr150 or pvr150-MCE?
[02:31:08] jrthegoob: hhow does myth compare to the windows software such as beyondtv and sagetv?
[02:32:07] the-dead: is it possible to grab the channels without mythtv-setup? (i changed the mysql db by hand to enable eit, now i need to get the chanels from eit)
[02:32:11] J-e-f-f-A: jrthegoob: I dunno, besides perhaps mythtv and the os that it runs on are FREE...
[02:32:55] jrthegoob: ya who cares... you already paid for windows and the other software is like $60
[02:33:43] the-dead: you paid for windows?
[02:33:48] jrthegoob: im hoping for a performance upgrade
[02:33:54] jrthegoob: at some point i did
[02:33:56] J-e-f-f-A: jrthegoob: Not me... I put together my own systems... and with windoze costing $80-$140 for xp nowadays, I'd prefer to use Linux for all my myth systems... ;-)
[02:34:04] jrthegoob: when i bought my laptop a few years back i paid for windows
[02:34:51] jrthegoob: this system i put together... but i still have xp cds
[02:34:59] J-e-f-f-A: jrthegoob: Yeah, my laptop is XP. But I don't have that in the basement running myth, and it don't have pci slots for tuners... ;-)
[02:35:07] havoc: hmm, it looks like the pvr150 is a good bet if I don't need FM
[02:35:18] eiggirC: pvr 150 is great
[02:35:26] jrthegoob: well J-e-f-f-A , legally then.. you could erase windows from your laptop and put it on your pc
[02:35:29] eiggirC: only thing better is a pvr 500 cos it takes one less slot
[02:35:54] havoc: eiggirC: we've alreay identified some problems with that
[02:36:08] havoc: mainly the new cards with samsung tuners and ivtv
[02:36:59] the-dead: is it possible to grab the channels without mythtv-setup? (i changed the mysql db by hand to enable eit, now i need to get the chanels from eit)
[02:37:26] marcus2: is there a way to make mythtv do commercial detection *after* transcoding?
[02:37:57] rtsai: marcus2: yes
[02:38:05] rtsai: marcus2: it's in mythtv-setup somewhere
[02:38:11] rtsai: marcus2: my system is set up that way
[02:38:22] marcus2: hmm
[02:39:48] Layer01zzzzz is now known as Layer01

[02:41:21] marcus2: next, i will see if i can get DRM/DRI working with my nvidia chipset and ati video card
[02:41:33] ** marcus2 doesnt have high hopes :( **
[02:42:22] havoc: ok, if I don't need/want FM or dual tuners, the plain wintv-pvr-150 looks like the most bang for the buck
[02:42:38] havoc: at least I'm buying it on the biz account ;)
[02:42:46] havoc: yay pre-tax dollars
[02:43:08] havoc: "um, I needed it for video editing for a client"
[02:43:30] jrthegoob: if one of us worked for the irs youd be hosed right now
[02:43:38] havoc: not really
[02:43:45] marcus2: you need dual tuners
[02:43:48] jrthegoob: kinda like that peterast from the department of homeland security
[02:44:27] havoc: marcus2: I *do*, but I've been told the new pvr500's use a new samsung tuner not entirely supported by ivtv yet
[02:44:36] marcus2: i just installed one
[02:44:41] marcus2: with the samsung tuner
[02:44:44] marcus2: seems to work just fine to me
[02:44:51] havoc: hmm
[02:44:56] marcus2: you have to use ivtv 0.4.3 or better
[02:45:01] marcus2: or 0.4.2 with a one line patch
[02:45:14] havoc: rtsai: you getting this?
[02:45:33] marcus2: tuner: type set to 68 (Samsung TCPN 2121P30A) by ivtv i2c driver #2

[02:47:16] rtsai: I can't use 0.4x because I also have HD3000 in my system which require stock kernel tveeprom
[02:47:30] marcus2: works great, both tuners look as good as the pvr-250 that is also in the system
[02:47:41] rtsai: are you using ivtv tveepeom or kernel tveeprom?
[02:47:45] rtsai: (what kernel?)
[02:47:55] marcus2: 2.6.13
[02:48:01] marcus2: not really sure which tveeprom i'm using
[02:48:19] marcus2: looks like the ivtv tveeprom
[02:48:23] rtsai: does your /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ivtv have some *eeprom*?
[02:48:23] rtsai: yeah
[02:48:36] marcus2: since my kernel module tree doesnt have a tveeprom module
[02:48:37] rtsai: I don't want to give up HDTV for ivtv

[02:50:05] marcus2: just out of curiousity
[02:50:10] marcus2: look in driver/tuner.c
[02:50:34] marcus2: what are the params in there for the 2121P30A tuner?

[02:51:19] deniidil: i have alsa and mplayer installed
[02:51:26] marcus2: oh hm
[02:51:26] deniidil: still no alsa support and no dvd playback

[02:52:23] rtsai: marcus2: a ha, probably ivtv-tuner.c
[02:52:33] deniidil: grrr
[02:53:11] marcus2: oh hm
[02:53:15] marcus2: heres what you need
[02:53:29] marcus2: look in misc/samsung.diff in the 0.6.0 source tree
[02:53:33] marcus2: its a kernel patch
[02:53:44] marcus2: that fixes the same params that were fixed in ivtv 0.4.3
[02:54:25] deniidil: .......
[02:54:38] marcus2: look at linux/drivers/media/video/tuner-types.c in your kernel source

[02:55:41] marcus2: oh well, so much for that thought :)
[02:55:44] rtsai: marcus2: yes, and 2.6.16.1 has this patch (hans mentioned it on ivtv mailing list)
[02:55:47] rtsai: marcus2: yeah :(

[05:44:27] promacuser: 3446 ttyp0 S+ 0:00 grep mythbackend
[05:44:43] kormoc: yeah, that's our grep, but no mythbackend by itself
[05:44:51] promacuser: ah, i see
[05:44:53] kormoc: so mythbackend is not running on the machine
[05:44:56] promacuser: so the backend didn't start for some reason
[05:45:01] kormoc: or it crashed
[05:45:44] promacuser: hmm, still the error
[05:45:54] kormoc: is it running now?
[05:46:10] promacuser: no. how do i start it manually? just "mythbackend"?
[05:46:47] kormoc: yeah
[05:47:05] promacuser: does it just run in the background?
[05:47:07] promacuser: i get this:

[12:18:52] whyz: i wish the e17 team would consider xgl..

[12:34:40] mchou: yup, it's v4l
[12:35:01] Kaeles: nice, but i'll have to use software encoding correct?
[12:35:11] mchou: but I wouldnt recommend that unless you have a beefy cpu
[12:35:18] Kaeles: as i thought.
[12:35:18] Kaeles: :P
[12:35:50] mchou: a 1.6Ghz ought to do nicely
[12:35:57] Kaeles: what about a dual 733?
[12:36:04] mchou: nope
[12:36:20] mchou: dual is as good as Uni
[12:37:00] Kaeles: mmm
[12:37:14] mchou: encoding is just going to run on one thread
[12:37:15] Kaeles: durn, but it would help if i was trying to watch and encode at the same time?
[12:37:32] mchou: those other myth threads take virtually no cpu
[12:37:49] hashbang: port7: $ ldd /usr/bin/mythfrontend | grep lirc

[12:38:05] Kaeles: so encoding is really the only cpu heavy thing?
[12:38:20] mchou: Kaeles: your issue is you dont have enough juice for encode

[12:39:15] mchou: Kaeles: wth for?
[12:39:26] hashbang: drdaz: you need the libXvMCW package from ATrpms. I do hope you've got a good reason to build from source, as the instructions at <http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php> work very well.
[12:39:27] mchou: just get a single core a64

[12:40:53] mchou: Kaeles: and depending on your needs I'd probably just stick with agp
[12:41:04] mchou: for myth purposes
[12:41:20] mchou: otherwise you run out of slots real quick
[12:41:47] Kaeles: mmm you think if i got like a haupauge pvr i can run it on a less powerful machine?

[12:42:54] mchou: I might even remove one proc

[12:42:58] mchou: :)
[12:43:21] mchou: Kaeles: what kind of forma factor is the proc?
[12:43:31] Kaeles: the duallies?

[12:43:37] Kaeles: yea

[12:51:52] Kaeles: why is the pvr 500 cheaper than the pvr350?

[12:53:51] Kaeles: also, would it be a bad idea to have it store all the encoded stuff on my NFS server?

[12:56:02] mchou: Kaeles: nfs is good idea
[12:56:36] Kaeles: so, if i have all my stuff stored on my NFS server its not gonna be too slow for playback or anything?

[12:56:51] Kaeles: cool

[12:57:25] Kaeles: lol
[12:57:58] Kaeles: can you use a pvr to encode dvd to mpeg or divx?
[12:58:28] mchou: nah, there are better tools for that
[12:58:51] mchou: you dont want dvd to go thru analog stage

One thing I'm not sure about: if I disable DHCP on my router, then what IP will my router have? and what IP will the server on which I'm installing DHCP have?
[13:03:21] Kaeles_: your router will still use 192.168.0.1
[13:03:29] Kaeles_: unless you tell it to pick a diff one.
[13:03:40] Jelte: Kaeles_ ah (it's using 192.168.1.1 now )
[13:03:46] Kaeles_: well, same thing
[13:03:47] hashbang: Kaeles_: that's model-specific
[13:03:47] Kaeles_: :P
[13:04:09] Kaeles_: having the dhcp server enabled or not shouldnt change the router ip though
[13:04:11] Kaeles_: is what i meant.
[13:04:35] hashbang: ...and it should get its external IP from your ISP.
[13:04:44] hashbang: (unless that's configured statically)
[13:05:01] Jelte: ok, thats the router sorted then... so what about the DHCP server? right now that is a server with dhcp client, but what IP will it have if I turn it into a dhcp server?
[13:05:29] hashbang: Jelte: it won't. You'll need to configure it statically.

[13:06:39] Jelte: the server is running ubuntu at the moment, so it's probably best to also purge the dhcp client package on there?
[13:06:39] hashbang: Jelte: you might be able to get its own DHCP server to configure it on the basis of its MAC address, but I wouldn't bother.
[13:06:52] Jelte: cool
[13:07:07] mchou: Jelte: I dont get it. why dont you use the router for this?
[13:07:28] Jelte: mchou: , because I have to configure the dhcp server to tell my mini-itx where to find the TFTP server
[13:07:30] mchou: that's what the router is for
[13:07:45] Kaeles_: he's setting up a netboot system
[13:07:45] Jelte: and the dhcp server on the router is rather limitted in the options i can set on it,
[13:07:52] Jelte: yep
[13:07:56] hashbang: mchou: some router DHCP servers are very stupid.
[13:07:58] mchou: Jelte: what kind of crappy router you got that wont let you do this?

[14:52:53] drdaz: yikes... I got myself a 300GB WD sata drive to replace the disk that conked out earlier this week.. hddtemp reports it idling @ 42C :-|
[14:53:31] meushi: ouch
[14:53:42] drdaz: with some luck its just wrong
[14:53:47] meushi: don't want to imagine the temp at full load
[14:54:23] drdaz: it hit 48 after 2+ hours of constant copying last night
[14:54:37] drdaz: which actually isnt too too bad..
[14:54:54] drdaz: but for an idling disk.. 42 sucks
[14:57:29] hashbang: drdaz: mine has peaked at 40C, but is generally around 31–32C

[14:57:44] hashbang: and in the UK
[14:57:54] drdaz: ok

[15:03:49] Juski: is that the one?
[15:04:28] mmead: Juski: I had that problem
[15:04:56] Juski: there's a problem with mythbackend's connection to mysql5 timing out
[15:04:57] mmead: Juski: I did an update to 19-fixes across all my myth boxes last night and the db connection survived the mythfilldatabase run this morning
[15:05:23] sphing: Juski: whats happening is I go to manage recordings -> upcoming recordings and theres only like 3 things listed
[15:05:26] Juski: or rather – there _was_ a problem ;)
[15:05:33] mmead: Juski: "MySQL server has gone away"

[15:08:35] mmead: .19?
[15:08:43] Juski: yup
[15:08:49] hashbang: mmead: yeah, looking closely at it, I think vsync might still be a bit glitchy.

[15:09:04] hashbang: mmead: I need to do some more rigorous testing.

[18:32:29] xris: Samson: ivtv version?
[18:32:55] promacuser: i've tried to find all that i could, but there's not enough specific information on this problem
[18:33:15] kayelem: promacuser, it sounds like your video/TV card drivers aren't loading, possibly as they don't match your kernel – that's more a distro thing than a mythtv thing.

[21:22:12] xris: I finally broke down and included some cgi stuff in mythweb to get around it.
[21:22:45] sneezer: what did you have to do? load the file and send it out (in binary form) with some cgi?
[21:22:50] xris: yeah
[21:22:58] xris: perl has no problem with large files.. apache and php do.
[21:23:00] xris: sometimes
[21:23:16] sneezer: I have some code that does similar things, but it reencodes my pictures for my gallery
[21:23:51] sneezer: it lets me upload them full size then people can choose what resolution to view at... its nifty stuff
[21:25:01] xris: sneezer: mythweb will get that soon.. going to write my own version of mythstreamtv.. and include flash video right on the page, too.
[21:25:22] sneezer: exelent! if you would like any help, I'm not too bad at php...
[21:25:37] sneezer: ooh — my other irc session finaly died!
[21:25:39] sneezer is now known as achew22

[21:32:00] xris: bagleabuse: no clue.
[21:32:03] bagleabuse: damn...
[21:32:05] xris: the basics are there now, though
[21:32:16] bagleabuse: what do you plan on using to reencode it?
[21:32:39] bagleabuse: what would be the best location for my mythrename.pl thing, so that all users can get to it?
[21:33:03] Anduin: laurens_: I use one (though only for capture)
[21:33:39] xris: bagleabuse: /usr/local/bin
[21:34:02] bagleabuse: if I did that would the command for userjob just be mythrename.pl
[21:34:04] xris: as for reencoding, probably ffmpeg, since it's the most common piece out there, and I know it supports flash video and other common formats
[21:34:05] sphery: xris, will do... Should be able to test it tonight.
[21:34:20] sphery: Thanks, though, I really think handling the downloads in the app is better, anyway.
[21:34:21] sphery: :)
[21:34:22] laurens_: Anduin: ivtvctl -L
[21:34:23] xris: bagleabuse: that'd probably work.. I'd personally hard-code the path, though, just to be safe

[21:36:18] bagleabuse: xris, is there any series of switches that would make symlinks of only the non-livetv recordings and give them good names?

[21:39:32] bagleabuse: sphier is there a way to have it symlink to another folder?
[21:39:33] sphery: bagleabuse: not so easy to fix
[21:39:46] sphery: it's a problem of your TV's overscanning.
[21:39:54] sphery: Not a Myth problem per se.
[21:39:59] bagleabuse: no... its on all my compiled versions
[21:40:03] sphery: However, Myth may have crammed a bit too much.
[21:40:06] bagleabuse: even the one running on a VGA monitor
[21:40:08] sphery: onto the screen
[21:40:12] bagleabuse: and all the other oens work
[21:40:14] bagleabuse: check it out

[21:41:36] Anduin: bagleabuse: SVN looks fine here.
[21:41:43] sphery: bagleabuse: I'm using this to create my links for recordings http://misc.thirdcontact.com/mythlink.sh
[21:41:47] bagleabuse: okay — then tehy fixed it
[21:42:00] bagleabuse: sphery mythrename.pl is a rewritten version of that
[21:42:06] sphery: no
[21:42:19] sphery: That's a script I use to call mythrename.pl and create 5 directories of links
[21:42:24] sphery: Each sorted differently

[21:49:43] sphery: It's not a perl script
[21:49:47] bagleabuse: ohh...
[21:49:50] sphery: It's a bash shell script
[21:50:04] sphery: mythlink.sh calls mythrename.pl
[21:50:16] bagleabuse: my bad
[21:50:53] sphery: just easier to create a single cron job to kick off the shell script (that I can edit as desired) instead of having 5 cron jobs (that have to be edited with crontab -e)
[21:51:50] sphery: basically, you'll need to edit the values of the env var's at the top
[21:52:00] sphery: VIEWS_PATH is location under which directories are created
[21:52:25] bagleabuse: I did...
[21:52:32] sphery: OK.
[21:52:47] sphery: Just wasn't sure if the idea was clear from the script.
[21:53:21] bagleabuse: just misnamed it...
[21:53:37] sphery: Cool.
[21:53:40] sphery: Hope it's helpful.
[21:54:01] sphery: Although it kind of obscures the arguments I'm using, it should help you see how to create a command to do what you want.
[21:55:04] bagleabuse: its a nifty script... but I'm still getting the line 44 thing so I tried root@MythTV:/usr/local/bin# sh ./mythlink.sh
[21:55:07] bagleabuse: still no luck...
[21:55:35] sphery: which version of bash?
[21:55:45] sphery: Maybe I have a 3.0 only thing in there
[21:56:07] bagleabuse: version 3.00.16
[21:56:32] sphery: OK.
[21:56:45] sphery: Something's different...
[21:56:48] sphery: One sec.
[21:57:37] sphery: Line 44 is in the middle of the FORMATS array...
[21:57:39] sphery: ?
[21:57:43] bagleabuse: one sec
[21:58:19] bagleabuse: is it possible to have spaces in the names?
[21:58:28] sphery: Should look like this: http://pastebin.com/648528
[21:58:37] bagleabuse: its cool — it fixed itself
[21:58:47] bagleabuse: actualy I recoppied it from your stie
[21:58:49] bagleabuse: with a wget
[21:58:49] sphery: If you want spaces, set UNDERSCORES=''
[21:58:54] sphery: (two single quotes)
[21:59:33] sphery: on line 55
[22:00:56] bagleabuse: okay, this is strange when I run any ocmmand now it says "echo -ne "33]0;${USER}@${HOSTNAME}: ${PWD/$HOME/~}07"
[22:01:44] bagleabuse: which looks like its regexp (or similar) for the line that says root@MythTV:/usr/local/bin#
[22:01:55] sphery: type 'reset' (no quotes) in the shell
[22:02:05] bagleabuse: same thing
[22:02:50] sphery: Hmmm.
[22:03:23] sphery: The string you see is the terminal's PROMPT_COMMAND
[22:03:55] sphery: try:
[22:03:55] sphery: export PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne "33]0;${USER}@${HOSTNAME}: ${PWD}07"'
[22:04:00] sphery: maybe
[22:04:41] bagleabuse: i just closed it and reopened it and it corrected itself
[22:04:46] sphery: That works
[22:04:47] sphery: :)
[22:04:59] bagleabuse: I like software that fixes itself
[22:05:09] bagleabuse: now if only the kitchen sink could take a lesson....
[22:06:27] Tobbe: I'm trying to use nuvexport, but I get this error: No valid recordings found! I also get this error: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Unknown column 'basename' in 'field list' at /usr/local/share/nuvexport/mythtv/recordings.pm line 67.
[22:06:38] Tobbe: Any ideas?
[22:06:51] Tobbe: I can see the recordings in MythWeb
[22:06:59] sphery: your nuvexport is for 0.19, but your Myth is 0.18.x
[22:07:13] bagleabuse: sphery is %H%i Hour min?
[22:07:35] sphery: mythrename.pl --help
[22:07:55] Tobbe: sphery: is there anything I can do about it?
[22:07:59] sphery: %H = 24-hour hour, with leading zero
[22:07:59] sphery: %i = minutes
[22:08:07] sphery: Tobbe: get the nuvexport for 0.18
[22:08:15] sphery: From Chris's site...
[22:08:16] bagleabuse: ooh... smexy
[22:08:27] bagleabuse: its the .2 ones
[22:08:31] bagleabuse: get the latest .2
[22:10:21] sphery: So, Tobbe, I think you can find it at http://forevermore.net/files/nuvexport/archive/
[22:10:23] xris: SlicerDicer-: ok, what do I do to get this firewire connection working?
[22:12:00] xris: ahh, thank jarod for getting all of this hooked up
[22:12:21] robthebob: how do i set mythtv up so that i can get a particular recording transcoded at a quality of my choice?
[22:12:52] xris: robthebob: set up the transcode profile you want, and then press X while watching it
[22:13:14] robthebob: how do you set the recording to use a particular profile?
[22:13:18] bagleabuse: sphery if your run that program 2 times will it clear the folder and remake the links or leave them there but not duplicate them?
[22:13:22] Tobbe: sphery, bagleabuse, thanks, got the file :)
[22:13:38] robthebob: i cant see how to shift it off the default (autodetect)
[22:13:47] bagleabuse: Tobbe have fun!
[22:13:53] xris: hahaha.. helps if I actually compile mythtv with firewire support
[22:13:53] sphery: bagleabuse: mythrename.pl deletes all the links
[22:14:07] sphery: mythlink.sh doesn't delete the directory names
[22:14:16] bagleabuse: so it cleans the folders?
[22:14:47] sphery: Each individual directory is cleaned by mythrename.pl before links are created
[22:14:53] bagleabuse: sweet!
[22:14:55] sphery: So when you delete recordings, you don't have orphaned links
[22:15:40] sphery: But, if you decide to stop using a format with mythlink.sh, you'll need to delete the directory where you previously made the links for it.
[22:15:48] robthebob: any thoughts xris?
[22:16:11] daniel_bergamini (daniel_bergamini!n=daniel_b@70-41-156-220.cust.wildblue.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:16:21] xris: robthebob: for transcoding? there's only one profile for each source filetype
[22:16:23] bagleabuse: sphery I changed my file a little for what I thought would be cleaner names, what wrong with this? '%C – %T – %Y-%m-%d – %H:%i%a – %eH:%ei%ea – %S'
[22:16:34] xris: at least, that I know of
[22:16:49] xris: bagleabuse: it's REALLY friggin' long? heh
[22:16:59] robthebob: so what if i want to sometimes do it losslessly, sometimes to high quality mpeg4 and sometimes to lower quality mpeg4?
[22:16:59] Tobbe: can I just overwrite the current install of nuvexport 0.3, or do I have to do anything before installing again?
[22:17:06] bagleabuse: no, its way too short...
[22:17:26] bagleabuse: xris the files come out as "News.2.mpg"
[22:17:33] xris: Tobbe: just overwrite
[22:17:36] Tobbe: ok :)
[22:17:42] xris: bagleabuse: then --format isn't working right
[22:17:48] bagleabuse: tobe do a make install
[22:18:11] sphery: Actually, it may be the mythlink.sh script causing the problem.
[22:18:21] bagleabuse: i'm going to put it on pastebin
[22:18:29] sphery: Hold on...
[22:18:45] bagleabuse: http://pastebin.com/648548
[22:19:14] robthebob: should i send this to the myth-users list as a question?
[22:19:18] xris: sphery: mythlink is gone
[22:19:39] sphery: It's a script I am using (and he's playing with) to call mythrename.pl and make several views
[22:19:45] sphery: I didn't write it to handle spaces...
[22:19:51] sphery: (I don't use spaces in filenames)

[22:26:43] bagleabuse: thats the script as it is now
[22:26:50] sphery: Yeah.
[22:26:51] sphery: One sec.
[22:29:37] bagleabuse: xris, if I replace the ' (single) with " (doubles) would it fix it?
[22:30:59] xris: can't get the page to load at the moment... compile is eating up my cpu.

[22:32:04] bagleabuse: what is the change?
[22:32:15] xris: bagleabuse: because I have a new firewire hd box and I didn't compile myth with firewire support.

[22:34:24] sphery: I'm posting a fixed script on my website.
[22:34:25] sphery: One sec.
[22:34:38] Tobbe: this'll be interesting, exporting 2h recordings to XviD with --transcode and multipass. I think it'll take a while :)
[22:34:49] sphery: It's the IFS line that's important.
[22:34:54] sphery: Should be able to just add that.
[22:35:02] sphery: I added some stuff for LiveTV, though, too.
[22:35:10] xris: Tobbe: yeah, just a bit
[22:35:16] Tobbe: ;)
[22:35:26] bagleabuse: Tobbe see you next week
[22:35:32] Tobbe: lol
[22:36:27] Tobbe: I was hoping to install .19 tomorrow, let's hope it's done by then...
[22:36:54] xris: Tobbe: oh. .3 doesn't work so well without .19

[22:37:15] xris: bagleabuse: the initial .3 release did, sort of
[22:37:21] Tobbe: I'm using .2 now
[22:37:32] bagleabuse: I was unable to even start it with .18
[22:37:36] sphery: bagleabuse: http://misc.thirdcontact.com/mythlink.sh

[22:39:16] Chicago (Chicago!n=Chicago@c-67-186-94-173.hsd1.in.comcast.net) has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[22:41:09] bagleabuse: sphery you should add your script to the svn
[22:41:17] bagleabuse: the contrib folder would be a great place for it
[22:41:18] sphery: It just calls mythrename.pl
[22:41:29] bagleabuse: yeah, but its very nice....
[22:43:46] sphery: xris and I talked about it before (after I moved some functionality from the version of mythlink.sh I had updated from the Dale Gass's (?) original to mythrename.pl). We decided it wasn't really that necessary.
[22:43:52] sphery: See http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/ticket/278
[22:44:11] sphery: (The patch--at the very bottom--changed the mythlink.sh to basically what you're executing.)
[22:44:29] drdaz: heh... fresh install of FC4 and using xvmc and oglvsync myth segfaults when starting livetv
[22:44:29] sphery: We decided it wasn't really necessary since most people will want different format strings, etc.
[22:44:41] sphery: But, thanks for the compliment on the script.  :D
[22:44:41] xris: sphery: could someday make --format a multi-param or something... do --dir name=format kind of thing
[22:44:52] xris: and just add it to mythrename
[22:44:55] drdaz: latest nvidia drivers btw
[22:44:58] sphery: That would work.
[22:45:27] sphery: Only reason I use the script is so I can have a single cron job and to make editing formats easier (easier than crontab -e)
[22:45:42] zwaaa (zwaaa!n=leech@va-71-0-91-184.dyn.sprint-hsd.net) has joined #mythtv-users

[22:46:16] User9561 (User9561!n=user9561@70-32-23-244.frdrmd.adelphia.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[22:46:17] sphery: Putting multi-dir/multi-format in mythrename would fix reason 1, but not reason 2.
[22:46:39] sphery: And, we might run up against command-line length limits.  :)
[22:47:12] xris: cool. firewire works like a charm
[22:47:45] drdaz: using ChromakeyOSD, XvMC and oglvsync, when opening liveTV with the "Open Program Guide when starting LiveTV" option myth segfaults.
[22:47:47] sphery: congrats, xris
[22:48:02] drdaz: this happened with 7676 too
[22:48:03] Tobbe: hmm, I get 0 fps and it still is at frame 0 :(
[22:48:13] sphery: drdaz: did NVIDIA fix the OpenGL vsync takes 100% CPU bug in the new driver?
[22:48:30] drdaz: I didnt suffer from it in 7676, so..
[22:48:30] xris: Tobbe: sometimes that happens and it's still working... but it could have had an error somewhere
[22:48:40] Tobbe: how would I know?
[22:48:58] sphery: Yeah.
[22:49:04] sphery: Just wondering.
[22:49:21] sphery: Haven't gotten up the courage to test the new drivers.
[22:49:43] sphery: Thought I saw something on the lists a while back about a similar problem with Open Program Guide when starting LiveTV
[22:49:44] drdaz: ^^ X just jumped up to 80% usage
[22:49:58] drdaz: with mythfrontend using the last 20%
[22:50:05] drdaz: sphery: ok?
[22:50:38] Tobbe: xris: when that happen to you, will it eventually start showing progress, or will it just sit at 0 frames until it's done?
[22:50:41] drdaz: hmm X is using an awful lot of CPU here
[22:51:22] sphery: drdaz: what happens when you disable OpenGL vsync?
[22:51:34] drdaz: 2 shakes..
[22:51:59] xris: Tobbe: not sure — I can't remember which version of nuvexport/transcode/etc the errors all happened in.
[22:52:08] xris: I've seen all of those things happen in the past.
[22:52:18] Tobbe: ok :)
[22:52:24] drdaz: sphery: same deal
[22:52:27] xris: the best way to check for something wrong is to run in single pass mode and look at the file size growing.
[22:52:38] sphery: hmmm.
[22:52:51] drdaz: actually...
[22:53:02] drdaz: nah...
[22:53:04] drdaz: same
[22:53:06] drdaz: heh
[22:53:33] sphery: drdaz: I can't find anything about the Open Program Guide when starting LiveTV
[22:53:42] drdaz: ok
[22:53:50] sphery: Maybe I was just imagining seeing something.
[22:53:55] drdaz: :p
[22:54:05] sphery: (lot of "ing" in that sentance)
[22:55:13] drdaz: looks like xvmc is the issue here
[22:55:31] drdaz: back to standard and the CPU usage is... well crap
[22:55:37] drdaz: but more normal
[22:55:57] sphery: No crash with standard?
[22:56:20] drdaz: this is nuts tbh.. 40%+ CPU usage for SDTV on an A64 3400+
[22:56:35] drdaz: scratch that... 50+
[22:56:46] sphery: Was it better with 7676?
[22:56:50] drdaz: nah
[22:56:54] sphery: Hmmm.
[22:56:57] sphery: Definitely a problem.

[22:57:47] sphery: Perhaps its the digital stream.
[22:58:02] drdaz: I think watching output from my pvr150 isnt so taxing on my CPU
[22:58:12] drdaz: really cant fathom why that would be tho
[22:58:16] sphery: You sure it's not up-res'ed to HDTV size?
[22:58:25] drdaz: heh totally
[22:58:31] drdaz: havent got an HDTV
[22:59:12] sphery: Oh. Thought maybe it was a standard-def show up-res'ed for broadcast via ATSC or something.
[22:59:25] sphery: Sounds like maybe a digital cable with firewire thing?
[22:59:41] sphery: Or DVB not in the US?
[22:59:57] drdaz: naw.. DVB-C. I've got a PCI DVB-C card

As when I look at it in mythweb, the songs are there (mythweb sits on an external box to the backend) but when i click on the file it tells me it isnt there... ;/
[23:44:27] Anduin: Zorro: MythMusich is a frontend plugin, it can work across multiple frontends but the path to the file has to be the same.
