[03:43:58] | bobbyz: | so xris, if I encode the two fifos from mythtranscode separately and mux them together later, the a/v won't sync? I was looking at doing x264 encoding through either ffmpeg or mencoder, but both programs seem to have limitations. From the looks of ffmpeg -h, I don't think ffmpeg supports all of x264's advanced options, and mencoders muxers are broken so you can't encode bframes with mencoder's x264 support |
[03:44:25] | bobbyz: | so I was hoping to encode the video directly from the x264 program and the audio from lame and then mux them together later |
[03:45:32] | xris: | bobbyz: the fifo's are raw video. you shouldn't have issues |
[03:45:50] | xris: | merely demuxing and remuxing into a new container WILL have issues, but that's not what the fifo's are about. |
[03:45:56] | bobbyz: | ahh, ok. I thought you mentioned a/v sync issues or something earlier |
[03:46:08] | bobbyz: | oh I gotcha |
[03:46:18] | bobbyz: | a fifo will inherently keep sync...that makes sense |
[03:46:29] | xris: | sort of... mythtranscode keeps the sync |

[03:47:24] | xris: | myth's nupplevideo uses per-frame sync maintenance.... so direct access to the streams doesn't always help, and is why mplayer/etc can't play myth's recordings very well. |
[03:47:43] | bobbyz: | interesting |
[03:48:26] | xris: | Agrajag-: so in that ticket, just the one last patch is yours/ |
[03:48:27] | xris: | ? |
[03:48:32] | bobbyz: | well if I use ffmpeg to do resizing/interlacing/etc. but then save the output as raw yuv420p to another fifo for x264, then that should work, too, right? |

[04:50:15] | randy: | Is it possible to set Mythtv to automatically commercial flag live tv as it can recordings? |
[04:50:57] | J-e-f-f-A: | phar0e: I'll have to give it a try with the XP1800 (my old backend). — Will it work ok decoding HDTV to a VGA monitor (1024x768 or 800x600), or is it better to use an HDTV output mode? |

[04:51:56] | phar0e: | J-e-f-f-A: I don't think that matters as much, I use my LCD 19 inch for viewing, put it as close to my face as possible, it's great |
[04:52:54] | J-e-f-f-A: | phar0e: Excellent. Thanks! ;-) Now I might actually be able to watch the programs I'm recording with my HD3000 (bought during the broadcast flag 'scare') |
[04:53:13] | AlefBet: | I think I do have a copy of the database from a few days before I tried the 0.19 upgrade. Would I be better off loading that and writing off the last few days of recorded programs? |
[04:53:37] | phar0e: | J-e-f-f-A: does that mean if your cable company encrypts its HD channels your hd3000 ignores them? |
[04:55:16] | J-e-f-f-A: | phar0e: I don't think so — it is not aware (or perhaps ignores) the broadcast flag. So it should record anything that it can tune. But I don't have cable anyways – I'm using the HD3000 for Over-The-Air HD — I get 21 channels with the antenna pointing one direction — approx 10 more if I setup a rotor. |
[04:57:10] | J-e-f-f-A: | phar0e: I live about 30 miles from Boston, MA and we have several HD OTA channels out here... |
[04:57:14] | phar0e: | woah |
[04:57:41] | AlefBet: | Hmm. |
[04:57:51] | J-e-f-f-A: | (actually, that's 21 total channels, counting the sub-channels too...) |
[04:57:58] | AlefBet: | mythcommflag --rebuild doesn't seem to have made any change. |
[04:59:04] | xris: | AlefBet: you're probably better off just going back to .19. what issues did you have with it? |
[04:59:48] | J-e-f-f-A: | phar0e: The only bummer is that about 75% of the programming on the HD channels is currently up-converted SDTV broadcasts. But most of the sitcoms are HD now. |
[05:00:16] | AlefBet: | I can't remember exactly, but I believe it wouldn't record any new programs. |
[05:01:05] | xris: | AlefBet: that's kind of messed up |
[05:01:25] | xris: | anyway, you can revert the db and then run myth_rebuilddb.pl to repopulate the recordings from the last few days. |

[14:15:47] | net_tux: | I'm running mythtv 0.18.1-r1 on a gentoo system with an amd64 processor. I'm using an hd3000 capture card to receive off-air broadcast. Sometimes, when I try to transcode a show where the reception dropped a bit causing the captured stream to be a little glitchy, mythtranscode eats up all my RAM, then all my swap space at which point my box locks up. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to fix it? |
[14:16:36] | laga: | i'm afraid not many people will help you because you're running a release that's almost one year old |
[14:17:29] | net_tux: | I was afraid of that, unfortunately 0.19 in gentoo is not considered "stable" on amd64 hardware. The last time I tried upgrading to it, mythtranscode seg faulted :( |

[17:48:48] | kormoc: | roothorick, I've had nvidia cards where it requires a very specialized x org conf to get the tv out or multi monitors working right, it's usually as simple as you make it sound, but not always. |
[17:50:07] | roothorick: | if that's true, I'd be surprised if nVIDIA isn't pissed about it |
[17:50:40] | kormoc: | why would nvidia be pissed? |
[17:51:19] | roothorick: | IIRC, the TwinView stuff is standard, and one of their selling points for certain niche audiences |
[17:51:31] | roothorick: | and it's the same tech that makes TV-out config so standard |

[17:52:56] | kormoc: | basically, have to soft boot the card up three times, it's a known issue with a certain run of 5200's with certain firmware. they had the answer to me in a few minutes when I asked bout it |

[22:36:09] | blargo: | Have had a scan through the mailing lists but had no luck, I am having a problem with keyboard input when watching live tv on myth 0.19.3 it seems to stop responding to any keystrokes after the first command is issued, the keyboard still works in other windows so don't think it is a hardware, anyone have any ideas ? |
[22:36:18] | kormoc: | that's a 3.2x improvement over the different pastebin link! :) |
[22:36:59] | kormoc: | blargo, given that the code for 0.19.3 doesnt' exist yet, it's no wonder it doesn't work right |

[23:08:06] | Caveman: | can anyone suggest the easiest method to quickly check cpu temps, i could get lm_sensors working but as it's a once off it doesn't seem worth the effort. Does Knoppix or similar have anything prebundled? |
[23:08:08] | hexoroid: | i use to have that problem.. |
[23:08:17] | hexoroid: | then i moved around PCI cards |

[23:08:33] | kormoc: | Caveman, the bios has them listed usually |

[23:55:05] | Fredde87: | mythmusic when using the visualization just says "Visualization requires FFT library" "Did you run configure?". What have I missed? I have installed all the dependencies required for visualisation. What configure tool is it talking about? |
