[00:00:00] kormoc: well, that's the issue with why your backend thinks your card is remote
[00:00:00] kormoc: and likely it's tring the host method, so that would by why it can't connect
[00:01:00] nomego: so where do I fix it?
[00:01:00] kormoc: is your hostname in your /etc/hosts file?
[00:02:00] nomego: yes
[00:02:00] kormoc: is it set in /etc/conf.d/hostname?
[00:03:00] jd86: I'm having a problem, random (with no pattern i can seee) some recording will "record" but when i go to play, the file is mysteriously not there...
[00:03:00] nomego: kormoc: hmm this box don't seem to be upgraded from /etc/hostname -> /etc/conf.d/hostname... could that be the source of problems?
[00:03:00] kormoc: that could be a part of it, aye
[00:04:00] nomego: but the command "hostname" returns right hostname
[00:04:00] kormoc: <nomego> "host digimyth" returns wrong ip
[00:04:00] kormoc: that's the part you'll need to fix
[00:04:00] kormoc: what is causing that, I donno
[00:05:00] nomego: well the command "host" doesn't use /etc/nsswitch.conf, right?
[00:05:00] nomego: ping, however, does.. and returns the right ip
[00:05:00] kormoc: donno

[00:07:00] kormoc: nomego, you could try deleting the card and adding it again and see if that helps

[00:08:00] kormoc: yup
[00:11:00] nomego: ok trying
[00:11:00] juski: prologic: that's caused by not using overscan when you play back TV
[00:12:00] nomego: kormoc: nope.. same same
[00:12:00] juski: uncheck 'use GUI size for playback' in the settings menu.. think it's in the TV playback screen.. or maybe 'appearance'
[00:13:00] prologic: juski, where do I find this setting ?
[00:14:00] kormoc: nomego, know how to get to a mysql prompt?
[00:16:00] nomego: kormoc: sure.. that's how I told you the settings ;)

[00:19:00] juski: prologic.. utils/settings – settings – appearance
[00:19:00] kormoc: nomego, set the masterbackend and the other host settings to the same
[00:19:00] nomego: instead of 127.0.0.1 ?
[00:19:00] prologic: juski, video mode settings ?
[00:19:00] kormoc: nomego, correct
[00:19:00] juski: either that or in 'tv' – 'playback' – can't remember right now.. if your screen output goes to the edges of your TV you might not see the flicker @ 'the top any mode
[00:19:00] juski: *more
[00:20:00] nomego: kormoc: or should I do "update settings set hostname="digimyth" ?
[00:21:00] GreyFoxx: no
[00:21:00] GreyFoxx: not all settings are suppose to have a hostname attached
[00:21:00] nomego: hmm ok
[00:21:00] juski: prologic: just checked... it's definitely in Utils/setup – setup – appearance
[00:21:00] prologic: ok
[00:21:00] juski: GreyFoxx: you liking the screenshot?
[00:21:00] nomego: so update settings set data="digimyth" where data="127.0.0.1" ..
[00:22:00] GreyFoxx: looks good, AND I like the highlighted movie :)
[00:22:00] juski: started out just tweaking this, but the more I fiddle the more it's evolving into something else
[00:22:00] GreyFoxx: nomego: What exactly are you trying to do ?
[00:22:00] nomego: GreyFoxx: I can't watch TV.. trying to fix it with the help of kormoc ;)

[00:24:00] nomego: kormoc: yes
[00:24:00] juski: prologic: yup
[00:24:00] kormoc: GreyFoxx, and it's a local card.

The file-size indicates the whole show was recorded (i.e. 2.8GB) but only 45 of 120 minutes are available for playback. Is this a common issue?

[01:32:00] kormoc: defaultro, it's what red_fox asked for
[01:32:00] kormoc: kury, you want the ./confgiure line?
[01:33:00] red_fox: kormoc, no not quite... that is just a list of your use flags
[01:33:00] kormoc: red_fox, which is what you asked for
[01:33:00] red_fox: no, run emerge mplayer -pv
[01:33:00] red_fox: I think kury asked for your use flags
[01:33:00] kormoc: which outputs that same thing
[01:33:00] red_fox: no it doesn't
[01:33:00] kormoc: -p is pretend, -v is verbrose
[01:33:00] kury: I'm w/ fox... on this one
[01:34:00] red_fox: -v outputs what flags matter for this package
[01:34:00] red_fox: I don't know what the defaults are
[01:34:00] kormoc: http://pastebin.ca/37725
[01:34:00] kormoc: they are the same thing

[01:35:00] red_fox: kormoc, this can't be what emerge returns when you use -v...
[01:35:00] red_fox: mine never puts out packagename USE="..."
[01:35:00] kormoc: red_fox, I copy and pasted from my terminal
[01:35:00] kormoc: what version of portage are you using?
[01:35:00] red_fox: hrm
[01:36:00] red_fox: Portage 2.0.53

[01:36:00] kormoc: hence the difference
[01:36:00] maino82: does anyone know how to get mythtv to cooperate with all-in-wonder cards, or if it's even possible?
[01:37:00] travolta-: what is the problem?
[01:37:00] red_fox: kormoc, well that is making it difficult to compare use flags... I suggest looking at this: http://www.gentoo-portage.com/media-video/mplayer/USE
[01:37:00] kury: Anyone know what these flags are used for?
[01:37:00] kury: cpudetection
[01:37:00] kury: custom-cflags
[01:37:00] kury: xvmc
[01:38:00] maino82: it doesn't seem to recognize that i have a tuner
[01:38:00] kury: those are the only 3 kormoc & I have different on mplayer
[01:38:00] kormoc: red_fox, so wait. he wants my use flags and because it's not in a convient way for him to compair, you want me to do a bunch of work making it easy for him?
[01:38:00] kormoc: kury, custom-cflags enable my c-flags, xvmc adds XvMC support, cpudetection enables runtime cpu detection for optimization
[01:38:00] red_fox: who said anything about you doing a bunch of work?
[01:38:00] travolta-: maino82, are you able to play /dev/video with a different player like mplayer?
[01:38:00] kormoc: red_fox, <red_fox> kormoc, well that is making it difficult to compare use flags... I suggest looking at this: http://www.gentoo-portage.com/media-video/mplayer/USE
[01:39:00] red_fox: so did you look at it?
[01:39:00] kormoc: no, why should I?
[01:39:00] red_fox: I would guess that you would look at it because you want mplayer to work with mpeg4 files
[01:40:00] kury: what does xvmc do?
[01:40:00] red_fox: but if you think you will have better results by complaning to the people who are trying to help you, then continue
[01:40:00] kury: red fox.. I think you are confusing kormoc and myself... I'm the one not able to play mp4's
[01:41:00] red_fox: yeah I know, that wasn't directed towards you
[01:41:00] red_fox: kury, XvMC lowers the cpu requirements when playing video files, I think it might lower the quality just slightly
[01:41:00] red_fox: not sure about that last part though
[01:42:00] kormoc: red_fox, I don't need mplayer to play mpeg4
[01:42:00] kormoc: red_fox, mine plays it
[01:42:00] kormoc: red_fox, kury asked me for my use flags, then you told me I didn't know what I was doing and then told me to look up stuff cause my useflags didn't work, when they do

[05:14:00] kormoc: so then it's right

[05:20:00] kormoc: but svn can store files in other things then .nuv

[05:21:00] znoG: maybe the recording is working, the transcoding is not?

[11:03:00] galorin: got a deep link for me? I just got done upgrading cpan and am downloading myth right now, barely started
[11:04:00] Tobbe: galorin: When you're done, can you please post a howto somewhere (like www.ubuntuforums.org)? Otherwise I will just come here asking for help as soon as they release the next Myth version :)

[11:06:00] _willcooke_: there's another page on there about ubuntu as well
[11:06:00] juski: I learnt the hard way so everyone else should!
[11:06:00] _willcooke_: juski, Nice theme!!
[11:06:00] juski: oops... got myself confused with a hardcore linux-head, sorry ;-)
[11:07:00] _willcooke_: I like the shading on the buttons
[11:07:00] juski: the buttons are staying
[11:07:00] juski: the new backgrounds are 'coming soon'
[11:07:00] awilkins: I found Gentoo very good for learning about linux, just because you have to to get *anything* done.
[11:07:00] juski: gonna make the mythmusic theme look like a 'real' music player
[11:07:00] awilkins: I tried Ubuntu, but I couldn't get my hardware working under it at the time. And it was just too danged EASY. And BROWN.
[11:08:00] juski: will see if you can get OSS 'LCD' fonts
[11:08:00] awilkins: I saw one somehwere
[11:09:00] juski: 1001freefonts do them I think
[11:09:00] juski: either LCD or 7-segment ;)
[11:09:00] awilkins: THis one looks quite nice http://www.project.com/alex/fonts/
[11:09:00] awilkins: Has some nice looked "hi-fi" VFD subsegments
[11:09:00] juski: doesn't look too TV friendly though
[11:09:00] awilkins: Damn, my typing is short circuiting my grammar today.
[11:10:00] awilkins: Depends what size you are rendering it, I suppose.
[11:10:00] juski: right... got to go collect my car.. 4 years old & still passing its M.O.T. test without needing work.. unlike my last one :)
[11:11:00] awilkins: Anyone able to play WMA in Mythmusic?

[11:16:00] xnor: Goodmorning, i have tried scantv -a to scan all fq but i havent found any station yet, i have a pvr350 card, how can i check i have the right tuner installed?
[11:16:00] galorin: nope, collection is MP3, sorry
[11:22:00] galorin: xnor, what have you done with the card by way of setup so far?
[11:24:00] xnor: ?

[11:27:00] xnor: galorin i just installed latest knoppmyth and plugged in the tvantenna and ran scantv -a it used to work with an erlier version..
[11:27:00] galorin: Ah, I've never dealt with knoppmyth

[12:12:00] psofa: why cant i edit any column from the settings field in the database? I can edit other things in the database fine
[12:12:00] psofa: Oo
[12:14:00] juski: _willcooke_: I know how to use FTP if that's what you mean ;-)
[12:14:00] juski: psofa: there's no primary key in the settings table, that's why
[12:15:00] _willcooke_: juski, I wish it was that easy!
[12:16:00] juski: _willcooke_: what you trying to do?
[12:17:00] _willcooke_: juski, hold on, I'll show you.....
[12:18:00] _willcooke_: http://www.whizzy.org/mythpy.txt
[12:18:00] _willcooke_: juski, I've got the backend server to send me a list of files, then I've searched through that to find which where made in the "radio" recgroup, then I'm trying to transfer those files to where ever the script is run from
[12:19:00] _willcooke_: then once that's done the rest is easy... encode to mp3, set the id3 tags to the title and descr of the recording, mv the file to the music dir and del the original
[12:19:00] juski: _willcooke_: why not just insist on having it done locally?
[12:19:00] _willcooke_: juski, Because....
[12:20:00] juski: or insist on using a share instead? less messy than FTP
[12:20:00] _willcooke_: juski, if you want to cron the job and you've got more than one backend, and you want the mp3s to end up in the same place
[12:20:00] juski: chances are everyone will have network shares of their 'music' directories anyway
[12:20:00] _willcooke_: juski, thats the conclusion I;d reached as well. shame, cos I'm getting close. it's telling me the socket is wrong, but the socket number is provided to me by the backend
[12:21:00] juski: so just ask the database where music files are stored
[12:21:00] _willcooke_: yeah, I think I'll have to do it with info from the db itself rather than the backend.
[12:22:00] _willcooke_: a combination of cp, nfs, ropes and mirrors
[12:22:00] juski: the creators of the xbmc python scripts for mythtv didn't go with the myth protocol for file xfers.. you have to set a samba share of your recordings folder
[12:22:00] juski: so it must've been too hard
[12:23:00] _willcooke_: pfft, quiters
[12:23:00] juski: either that or look at the code that the frontend uses to access recordings
[12:23:00] _willcooke_: Im looking at it now, it might as well be in binary for all the sense it makes to me
[12:23:00] juski: could always ask in the mythtv channel.. they're very helpful in there
[12:23:00] juski: if I wasn't so busy with this theme I'd lend a hand

[12:25:00] [Elvis]: hello people...can someone help me getting this tv-out problem fixed...I can't get it to fit my screen normally :(
[12:25:00] _willcooke_: right, shower and then house hunting.....
[12:25:00] [Elvis] is now known as sjaakz0r
[12:25:00] juski: sjaakz0r: Nvidia, ATI or other?
[12:26:00] sjaakz0r: nvidia juski
[12:26:00] sjaakz0r: I use nvtv
[12:26:00] sjaakz0r: but I don't know what resolution to use..I have a PAL tv
[12:26:00] juski: the best thing to do with TV outs is make them so the graphics overlap the edges of the screen slightly
[12:26:00] juski: use a PAL resolution if you can.. 720x576 is the best
[12:27:00] juski: and adjust the overscan so the edges of the graphics juuuuuust go past the screen edges
[12:27:00] juski: if any of the GUI vanishes when you do that, resize it in the Appearance menu
[12:29:00] sjaakz0r: hmm
[12:30:00] sjaakz0r: but it's like missing a lot of screwen in x if I use 720X576
[12:30:00] sjaakz0r: and it's TOO big for my screen in mythtv also
[12:30:00] juski: how do you mean missing?
[12:30:00] juski: leave the res at 720x576
[12:31:00] juski: then open the nvtv tool
[12:31:00] juski: there's a slider in there to adjust how much of the screen goes off the edges of your TV
[12:32:00] sjaakz0r: let me look for the res
[12:32:00] sjaakz0r: should I set x also on resolution 720*576?
[12:32:00] sjaakz0r: is that an idea?
[12:32:00] juski: yup
[12:33:00] juski: leave the size in the appearance menu (X & Y size & offsets) to 0
[12:33:00] juski: for now at least
[12:33:00] sjaakz0r: ok hang on
[12:33:00] juski: then adjust the overscan to get as much of the desktop on screen as possible, but don't worry too much about missing bits off
[12:34:00] galorin: Well, that didn't work... Oh well, try again.
[12:34:00] juski: because if you have any hope of using desktop apps on your TV out, forget it now.. it's just not practical unless you have a huge TV capable of displaying a good resolution (i.e. a HDTV)
[12:34:00] laga: i'd suggest that you go for maximum overscan and use the gui size option to make the GUI fit the screen.
[12:35:00] juski: laga: some of these tools can give too much overscan, depending on the card ;)
[12:35:00] juski: btw laga: www.juski.co.uk/mythfrontend2.png
[12:36:00] laga: juski: so what? i've found on my geforce 4 mx 440, i get the best picture quality if i do maximum overscan
[12:36:00] laga: though some people may not like it
[12:36:00] juski: exactly.. best to experiment to see what people like best ;-)
[12:36:00] laga: :)
[12:36:00] juski: it's hardly fair how the nvtv tools give so much more control than nvidia-settings though

[12:37:00] sjaakz0r: for the resolution...now I started nvtv with that same res
[12:37:00] sjaakz0r: and I miss like half of my screen :P
[12:37:00] sjaakz0r: I can't really find the slider you were talking abou
[12:38:00] juski: heh
[12:39:00] juski: laga: I got it to try with my older GF2 card... there's loads of sliders.. you can centre the screen & all sorts
[12:39:00] sjaakz0r: and for some mysterious reason my mouse cursor keeps disappearing :P

[12:39:00] sjaakz0r: I got gf 2
[12:39:00] juski: laga: the tv encoder on this one does all that in Windows
[12:40:00] juski: so there's no excuse not to have it in Linux
[12:40:00] sjaakz0r: any particular reason why my mouse cursor keeps dissappearing
[12:40:00] laga: juski: spiffy. i've never seen a thing like this, i guess
[12:40:00] juski: you got mythfrontend open, sjaakz0r?
[12:40:00] juski: laga: ;)
[12:40:00] sjaakz0r: no
[12:41:00] sjaakz0r: I do have sliders to tell the position though
[12:41:00] sjaakz0r: just not to tell the size
[12:41:00] juski: laga: plan for the next release is to go with that kind of style.. mythmusic will look like a 'real' player by the time I'm finished
[12:41:00] laga: juski: define 'real' :) with lots of knobs and buttons and thingies that go up to eleven?
[12:42:00] sjaakz0r: starting frontend now juski
[12:42:00] sjaakz0r: see what I can setup there
[12:42:00] juski: sjaakz0r: NOT a good idea if you've only got a small window on the desktop there
[12:42:00] sjaakz0r: what do you mean?
[12:42:00] juski: if you can use VNC to connect to the machine, that'd be ideal
[12:43:00] sjaakz0r: so I need to fix my whole desktop on my tv first juski ?
[12:43:00] juski: sjaakz0r: right look you can't see all of the desktop on your TV out.. so you'd not be able to see a lot of the frontend either
[12:43:00] sjaakz0r: ok in mythfrontennd I seem to be missing 3/4 of the screen
[12:43:00] sjaakz0r: :P
[12:44:00] juski: are there any keyboard commands to move a window you can't see?
[12:44:00] sjaakz0r: but if I set res 800 I see a whole lot more on my tv
[12:44:00] juski: ok then.. 800x600 is good, but not as good as 720x576
[12:45:00] juski: at least you'll be able to see the nvtv tool then
[12:45:00] sjaakz0r: yeah well I can see the nvtv tool on my montiro now
[12:45:00] nomego: Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my mythtv setup based on: http://pastebin.com/515988

[12:47:00] sjaakz0r: oh btw juski, I am able to move right and left on my desktop...the screen just follows my mouse if oyu know what I mean
[12:47:00] galorin: nomego, not sure what's going on with your setup, but would lines 153–155 have anything to do with it?

[12:47:00] Ryushin (i=proxy@windwalker.openinnovations.com) has joined #mythtv-users
[12:48:00] sjaakz0r: what does that do laga ?
[12:48:00] laga: sjaakz0r: to the resolution you are using. X is stupid about it sometimes and will give you a virtual desktop that's larger than the physical resolution
[12:48:00] laga: sjaakz0r: wait a sec
[12:48:00] juski: ahhh I'm talking bollocks.. there's no overscan slider
[12:48:00] nomego: galorin: nope.. I haven't got an nvidia card.. I have problem with TV dying after 20 seconds
[12:49:00] laga: sjaakz0r: for example, i have a "Virtual 720 576
[12:49:00] laga: " in the "subsection display" part of my XF86Config
[12:50:00] sjaakz0r: ok juski no slider?
[12:50:00] juski: no, but in the 'modes' tab there are different mode settings to try
[12:50:00] sjaakz0r: ok laga...but I only have this too big screen if I enable tv-out ?
[12:50:00] sjaakz0r: yeah juski
[12:50:00] sjaakz0r: I did that...but none fits like really good
[12:50:00] galorin: nomego, someone else can probably help more, but other than those lines, I can't see anything showing why your tv would cut out. What card are you using to output to the tv?
[12:50:00] juski: lucky for you I have my box with the GF2 & nvtv tool powered up
[12:50:00] sjaakz0r: :P
[12:51:00] sjaakz0r: laga where should I put it ?
[12:51:00] nomego: galorin: I get video, albeit laggy, and no sound.. and then it dies after 20 seconds
[12:51:00] sjaakz0r: I have Subsection "display" and then it says depth 1 and modes "720X576"
[12:52:00] laga: sjaakz0r: in the device section, display subsection
[12:52:00] laga: sjaakz0r: depth 1? wow. that's not much.
[12:52:00] galorin: nomego, how is the output to a computer monitor?
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: well I never changed it laga
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: what should I put it too then?
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: erm
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: 24
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: :P
[12:52:00] sjaakz0r: I meant
[12:52:00] laga: sjaakz0r: i use 16 or 24. :)
[12:53:00] sjaakz0r: should I put it below Modes "720x576"
[12:53:00] sjaakz0r: ?
[12:53:00] laga: sjaakz0r: yeah.
[12:53:00] sjaakz0r: and then like virtual "720x576" ?
[12:53:00] juski: sjaakz0r: okay... I've tried the 'large' option for most of the resolutions in nvtv.. it overscans juuust enough
[12:53:00] sjaakz0r: in what resolution juski ?
[12:54:00] sjaakz0r: because
[12:54:00] sjaakz0r: the 720x576 is only in dvd right?
[12:54:00] sjaakz0r: the last resolution
[12:55:00] laga: no
[12:55:00] laga: 'virtual 720 576'
[12:55:00] sjaakz0r: yeah I added that
[12:55:00] nomego: galorin: through tv-out
[12:56:00] nomego: galorin: it works perfectly in mplayer
[12:56:00] juski: ermm.... 720x576 is best to use for PAL/SECAM TV out
[12:56:00] sjaakz0r: laga I can now still like move the screen
[12:56:00] laga: sjaakz0r: did you restart X?
[12:56:00] sjaakz0r: yup
[12:57:00] sjaakz0r: although I can move it a lot less now
[12:57:00] laga: weird. sorry, dunno then :/ check the X logs
[12:58:00] galorin: nomego, not sure where to go next. Did you install mythtv from source, use pre-built packages, or are you using knoppmyth?
[12:58:00] nomego: "source" ... gentoo portage
[12:59:00] sjaakz0r: hmm laga....this is weird shit...if I remove the virtual...it looks like it goes back to resolution 1280x1024 is that normal?
[12:59:00] nomego: oh well.. gotta go.. thanks anyways
[12:59:00] galorin: Ah, gentoo. That's me out of the game, sorry. Might try someone else in here for helps.

[13:05:00] juski: looks like 768x576 'large' gives about 5% overscan, which might do the trick
[13:08:00] sjaakz0r: ok I uploaded to http://home.planet.nl/~verberk/XF86Config-4
[13:09:00] sjaakz0r: and http://home.planet.nl/~verberk/XFree86.0.log
[13:09:00] sjaakz0r: can you take a look at that laga
[13:09:00] sjaakz0r: why it gives me the wrong resolution
[13:10:00] laga: let's see
[13:10:00] laga: debian sarge. good choice :)
[13:11:00] laga: sjaakz0r: it's possible that X doesn't know 720x576. do you want a good (as in 'worksforme') modeline?
[13:11:00] Tobbe: sjaakz0r: you should disable GLcore and dri when you use the nvidia driver (atleast for newer cards, but I think it's the same with gf2 cards)
[13:13:00] sjaakz0r: laga what do you mean with a good worksforme modeline?
[13:14:00] laga: sjaakz0r: a modeline basically tells X how to output to the display.. i'll upload my XF86Config-4
[13:14:00] sjaakz0r: ok
[13:15:00] Ryushin: Wouldn't it be better to use etch instead of sarge right now for myth? I personally use sid though.
[13:15:00] sjaakz0r: why Ryushin ?
[13:15:00] Ryushin: They are "expecting" the next stable release to happen at the end of this year.
[13:15:00] laga: Ryushin: why would you want to break a running system?
[13:16:00] sjaakz0r: oh btw laga did you see NOt using mode "720x576" no mode of this name
[13:16:00] galorin: Just use sarge, then wait until etch is stable, then do a dist-upgrade.
[13:16:00] laga: sjaakz0r: i didn't see it, but i was suspecting it
[13:16:00] sjaakz0r: so laga what does that exactly mean?
[13:16:00] laga: sjaakz0r: laga.ath.cx/~laga/XF86Config-4.myth-bedtv
[13:17:00] laga: sjaakz0r: you need a modeline.
[13:17:00] galorin: hopefully we won't be a few decades before etch is stable, like we did with sarge. ;)
[13:17:00] Ryushin: Well, I would like to have access to at least x.org, and the latest packages that are least being put into etch. Sarge is going to get old fast with as fast as myth is developing.
[13:17:00] laga: you will be able to use backports, for example. and i don't see how mythtv works better with x.org instead of xfree86
[13:18:00] galorin: Ryushin, maybe just keep up via svn if you want to keep up to date in sarge.
[13:19:00] sjaakz0r: laga can I exactly copy your modeline?
[13:20:00] laga: BTW, mythtv from SVN works fine with debian sarge. that means that 0.19 will do that as well. and there probably won't be any more mythtv releases before etch comes out ;))
[13:20:00] laga: sjaakz0r: yep, i think so
[13:21:00] Ryushin: Will, to each their own I guess. But using testing will allow him to always be up2date with the world and he never would have to do a dist-upgrade. I ran a LOT Of servers off of testing and never once had a problem. I guess since sjaakz0r is at stable, upgrading to testing would be very easy if he ever needs to do it.
[13:21:00] sjaakz0r: hmm same error after restart x laga
[13:21:00] sjaakz0r: yeah Ryushin it's just changing the sources.list and apt-get upgrade
[13:22:00] laga: sjaakz0r: you need to adopt the name of the modeline
[13:22:00] Ryushin: sjaakz0r: Yea, apt-get distupgrade
[13:22:00] laga: Ryushin: uhm, what about security updates?
[13:22:00] sjaakz0r: to what laga?
[13:22:00] Ryushin: They have security updates for testing.
[13:22:00] laga: sjaakz0r: gee, just read my XF86Config
[13:22:00] laga: Ryushin: they do? wow.
[13:22:00] Ryushin: They have for a year.
[13:22:00] laga: i'm impressed
[13:23:00] Ryushin: Actually, probably more like 18 months now.
[13:24:00] galorin: My webserver is running etch, and security updates come in about every week or so
[13:25:00] Ryushin: Before sarge was released, all my servers were running testing. Only way to at least keep current to a degree.
[13:25:00] laga: why would you have to "keep current" on production servers?
[13:25:00] Ryushin: After sarge was released all my servers went to stable. IF debian can release stable every 12–18 months, then that is were they will stay.
[13:26:00] laga: yep. my server was sarge before it became stable
[13:26:00] galorin: which reminds me.. need to do an update. one of these days I'll tell the webserver to update itself.
[13:26:00] laga: since woody was a little bit too old for mythtv :)
[13:26:00] Ryushin: You be suprised how dated some technologies become. ClamAV, Amavis, etc.
[13:27:00] laga: you can update these man
[13:27:00] laga: manually*
[13:27:00] laga: but it's all about choice ;)
[13:27:00] laga: and everything is better than suse
[13:27:00] Ryushin: yea, and I have about a 30 servers to keep track of. The debian machines are easy. RedHat and everything else is a pain.

[13:40:00] laga: Tobbe: check my monitor section
[13:41:00] Tobbe: you've got 10–50...
[13:42:00] Tobbe: I use TwinView to get picture both on my tv and my computer monitor (tft)
[13:43:00] Tobbe: not sure if the tft monitor likes that 10–50 setting...
[13:44:00] laga: well, you'd have to find how you restrict that to the TV only
[13:44:00] Tobbe: can my monitor be damaged if using a too low hsync setting?
[13:45:00] laga: it's possible, but in my experience, they just go into standby mode.
[13:45:00] juski: Tobbe: unlikely unless it's very old
[13:47:00] Tobbe: hmm "interlaced video modes are not supported on this GPU"
[13:48:00] Tobbe: and I still get hsync out of range
[13:49:00] Tobbe: it seems to ignore my hsync settings in my config file: HorizSync : 30–83 (HorizSync from EDID) That's what it says in the log
[13:49:00] juski: Tobbe: you'll be lucky to get interlaced output from your graphics card
[13:50:00] juski: which is why, even when going thru the TV out encoder on video cards (interlaced) you still have to deinterlace your video
[13:50:00] juski: :-/
[13:50:00] defII: Anyone use japanese fonts in myth?
[13:50:00] Tobbe: juski: laga's modeline says interlace at the end...
[13:51:00] juski: so? not all chips support it
[13:51:00] laga: i managed to get interlaced output with my modelines. i played a few sample videos where i don't see any interlacing artefacts. however, normal recordings show artefefacts..oh well, i'm too hungover to explain it now ;)
[13:52:00] Tobbe: oops, hehe, it says "Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU"... I read it wrong :p
