[00:00:00] kormoc: if the playback is unmuted, when it's recording, it will play the audio no matter what you are doing
[00:00:00] kormoc: to watch tv, make sure your pcm is unmuted and a good volume level, as well as your master volute.
[00:00:00] kormoc: *volume
[00:00:00] viv`d: the problem is that its not working with tvtime
[00:00:00] beavis (n=beavis@p54A79CF9.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[00:01:00] kormoc: why would you want to use myth and tvtime?
[00:01:00] viv`d: tvtime doesnt record
[00:01:00] kormoc: if you attempt to run tvtime when myth is recording, it will screw up the recording
[00:01:00] viv`d: yes, i know
[00:01:00] viv`d: they worked together fine in debian
[00:02:00] kormoc: you can't do what you want without writing a shell script to unmute playback, start tvtime, and then mute playback
[00:02:00] viv`d: tvtime starts, unmutes, and remutes on exit
[00:02:00] viv`d: but because of that, its making mythtv audio out of sync
[00:02:00] kormoc: as long as tvtime is only touching the playback control, it should work fine then.
[00:03:00] viv`d: tvtime mutes the line in on my sound card
[00:03:00] kormoc: the only reason myth's audio would be out of sync is if you're listening to the live (playback) channel of audio while watching a recording
[00:03:00] viv`d: well im not recording
[00:03:00] kormoc: your line in has two types of mute, capture (record) and playback (direct out to the sound card)
[00:03:00] kormoc: when you're watching myth, you are recording, no matter what
[00:04:00] kormoc: even live tv gets buffered to disk
[00:04:00] opello_ is now known as opello
[00:07:00] viv`d: ok, with line in capture unmuted, and playback muted, mythtv plays no sound, but i dont get the error that theres no sound
[00:10:00] linuxbomb (n=r0ot@216.170.30.37) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[00:10:00] kormoc: viv`d, okay, then look at your playback audio settings
[00:10:00] kormoc: and make sure your pcm and master volume are unmuted

[01:11:00] Servo888: What gives... The frontend doesn't responde to the keyboard anymore... esc wont escape (the tv keeps playing)
[01:11:00] Servo888: Volumn, etc dont work either
[01:14:00] dev-: is it just myth or x also?
[01:14:00] Servo888: not sure
[01:15:00] Klatuu: have you restarted the frontend?
[01:16:00] Servo888: Nope;
[01:16:00] dev-: what, by pushing the reset button? its not windows, klatuu, its usually best to figure out why before just rebooting it
[01:16:00] Klatuu: um
[01:16:00] Servo888: dev-, I think he ment something else
[01:16:00] Klatuu: I wasn't talking about resetting the box
[01:16:00] Klatuu: dev is a bitch tonight
[01:16:00] dev-: lol
[01:17:00] dev-: Servo888: once you figure out if its just myth or x, you can go from there
[01:17:00] dev-: Klatuu: for all we know, his keyboard could be unplugged... heh...
[01:17:00] Servo888: Klatuu, I load up mythtv without a window manager, so once I can't really restart mythfrontend with out shutting down x.
[01:18:00] Klatuu: have you tried switching to a console from X?
[01:18:00] Servo888: Yes, nothing happened
[01:18:00] dev-: at least ist not a mythtv problem =]
[01:18:00] GreyFoxx: the lack of a window manager is probably why you are having keyboard problems
[01:19:00] GreyFoxx: keyboard focus problems are a common occurance to users who don't use a wm
[01:19:00] Servo888: I would need a really small window manager in that case, because I only have 3mb of spare ram to work with.
[01:19:00] Klatuu: twm is small
[01:20:00] GreyFoxx: there are lots of small wm's.
[01:20:00] Klatuu: it's ugly
[01:20:00] dev-: multiple come to mind heh

[01:22:00] Klatuu: then don
[01:22:00] Klatuu: then don't help them :)
[01:23:00] Servo888: Oh wtf... it's making mpeg videos in my var/video directory.
[01:23:00] dev-: servo88's original question was myth related =]
[01:23:00] dev-: but if someone askes the the resolution of PAL, im gonna tell them to fucking google it
[01:23:00] dev-: =]
[01:24:00] Servo888: wait a second why would mythtv start making .mpeg files on the output folder? I don't think I changed anything
[01:25:00] GreyFoxx: You mean it's writing mpeg recordings to the recordings storage lcoation ?
[01:25:00] Servo888: yes
[01:25:00] dev-: sounds like its working perfectly, then
[01:25:00] GreyFoxx: and don't you expect your recordings to go to the recording storage location ?
[01:25:00] Servo888: I thought it would use .nuv
[01:25:00] Servo888: My old recordings are like that
[01:26:00] GreyFoxx: not since the end of August (in svn)
[01:26:00] Servo888: And I also don't remember recording anything else
[01:26:00] GreyFoxx: mpeg files are named .mpg now
[01:26:00] Servo888: Ah that's why – I was testing out the svn not to along ago. Wasn't stable
[01:26:00] GreyFoxx: works perfectly here

[01:28:00] bobc: when doing "make install", do I need to exit mythbackend and mythfrontend first?
[01:28:00] GreyFoxx: bobc you should
[01:28:00] Servo888: Shouldn't matter...
[01:28:00] bobc: or will it simply not have any effect until I restart them?
[01:28:00] Servo888: You will need to restart them to have any effect.
[01:29:00] bobc: I always have, but was wondering
[01:29:00] GreyFoxx: they will likely crash or segfault when you overwrite them
[01:29:00] Klatuu: so why would the internal video player plugin in myth not respect aspect ratio?
[01:29:00] bobc: thanks, I'll continue stopping them first

[01:33:00] GreyFoxx: Can't say I've ever seen any aspect ratio problems in the internal player
[01:33:00] Klatuu: it just isn't letterboxing it
[01:34:00] Klatuu: dunno if there are setting somewhere for the internal player
[01:34:00] Klatuu: no luck on the mailing list
[01:35:00] Klatuu: and when I FF through some videos, the color goes wonky
[01:35:00] GreyFoxx: Got Aspect overide enabled forcing it to 4:3 ?
[01:35:00] Klatuu: I believe I tried that
[01:35:00] Klatuu: but
[01:35:00] Klatuu: not sure what that is supposed to do
[01:35:00] GreyFoxx: Iasking becuase that could be aproblem
[01:35:00] Klatuu: I've tried it both ways
[01:35:00] Klatuu: after I saw the problem I tried setting that to see if it would fix it
[01:36:00] GreyFoxx: So it's off and you are still having this problem ?
[01:36:00] Klatuu: no luck
[01:36:00] Klatuu: yeah
[01:36:00] GreyFoxx: and you have tried manually changing aspect ratios during playback ?
[01:36:00] Klatuu: how do I do that?
[01:36:00] dev-: keys.txt
[01:36:00] GreyFoxx: It's a Menu option during playback or hit W
[01:37:00] Klatuu: hrmmm
[01:37:00] Klatuu: I guess I'll try that
[01:41:00] GreyFoxx: I'm watching something with the internal player in 16:9 right now and it's handling it properly

[01:58:00] Servo888: It's an lcd that's hanging on my wall. It's only purpose is for the tv
[01:59:00] Juski: this might be going out on a limb a little bit (and it's very late here)... but maybe you could make a script, which irxevent would run.. that contains something that's write something to the keyboard buffer to make it look like a key has been pressed... ? [02:08:00] Juski: maybe the files have the wrong aspect ratio set

[02:08:00] Klatuu: I've tried a few diffferent files

[12:59:00] laga: Juski: yep. it's awesome ;). i use kismet and it has speech output. that's really funny, especially if you have it in your backpack. people give you funny looks when your back says "new wireless network detected..."

[17:16:00] laga: fallenangel: well, just let ivtv handle everything ;). it works fine for me with my pvr 350
[17:16:00] Juski: hi _willcooke_

[17:18:00] _willcooke_: Juski, part of the dvb-utils package
[17:18:00] Juski: I already use NTP, and when the schedule is bang-on from the broadcaster, the start of the recording is the opening titles

[22:34:00] mace: yeah
[22:35:00] Krazylegz: What type of video are you viewing?
[22:36:00] mace: tried both ASF and quicktime movies
[22:37:00] Krazylegz: Well, the PVR-350 has a hardware MPEG decoder. If you're playing non-MPEG content, it will not be decoded in hardware.
[22:37:00] klk: mace: I think the 350's out is only an mpeg decoder
[22:37:00] Krazylegz: So, maybe your system isn't beefy enough?
[22:37:00] mace: aye, but i'm not convinced mplayer is running out of horsepower

[22:41:00] Krazylegz: Yeah.
[22:41:00] Krazylegz: Well, not too slow to play that back, but too slow to play it back through the PVR-350's output.

[22:42:00] klk: mace: the 350's output requires mpeg2 to do anything accelerated in hardware
[22:43:00] Krazylegz: mace: At least when I used it, you basically had to tell your computer to decode the video, re-encode it to MPEG2, and send it to the PVR-350 so that it can decode it in hardware.
