[04:09:00] dev-: you dont see anything in dmesg?
[04:09:00] Captain_Murdoch: surye: you have to run mythtranscode with the -l (or --honorcutlist) option after mythcommflag. you coul dsetup a user job to do it, but I wouldn't trust commflagging enough to automatically cut the commercials and I'm the one that wrote the flagging code. I rarely even use auto-skip.

[04:15:00] \Grooby\_: how big's your root?
[04:15:00] xanderp: ok, it cleanly emerged... i'm going to lsmod lirc_i2c
[04:15:00] xanderp: oops... modprobe
[04:15:00] xanderp: lsmod shows both lirc_i2c and lirc_dev
[04:16:00] xanderp: dmesg shows lirc_dev: IR Remote Control dirver registered, at major 61
[04:16:00] xanderp: nothing in /dev
[04:16:00] dev-: interesting.
[04:17:00] xanderp: is there something in the conf that holds the soundcard stuff? the alias major crap?
[04:17:00] ** \Grooby\_ thinks xanderp lied about sacraficing the virgin monkey **
[04:17:00] \Grooby\_ is now known as \Grooby\
[04:17:00] dev-: i just did a fresh install on a new box and all i added was that make.conf entry, kernel stuff for bitbanging and regular i2c support, emerged, modprobed, done
[04:17:00] ** xanderp did the pee pee dance and pricked his finger on the rubber chicken beak... (was that the OLD docs?) **
[04:17:00] dev-: didnt add any of those other options you added...
[04:17:00] \Grooby\: nor did I
[04:18:00] \Grooby\: and irc works fine for me
[04:18:00] \Grooby\: (except I f up on the root partition and ran out of space emerging)
[04:18:00] xanderp: hrmmm
[04:18:00] xanderp: this is a brand new install
[04:19:00] dev-: i setup a new box about a week ago
[04:19:00] dev-: heh
[04:19:00] arnducky (n=quacker@S01060030ab077a70.cg.shawcable.net) Quit ("Leaving")
[04:19:00] Nem^2 (n=Nem@p54ABEDC0.dip.t-dialin.net) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[04:19:00] dev-: dunno, try commenting out your line and just have driver hauppage and see what happens
[04:19:00] ** xanderp is looking in his .config again **
[04:19:00] dev-: dunno heh
[04:19:00] xanderp: leave out everything other than the --with-driver=hauppauge?
[04:20:00] dev-: thats what i did, like on all my other boxes, remote works fine
[04:20:00] \Grooby\: xanderp, try that
[04:20:00] dev-: in xine and mplayer and all that s tuff.
[04:20:00] xanderp: will do
[04:21:00] dev-: you didnt play with devfs or anything did you\
[04:21:00] xanderp: it IS --with-driver, and not --withdriver yes?
[04:21:00] xanderp: nope
[04:21:00] dev-: 23:12 <dev-> LIRC_OPTS="--with-driver=hauppauge"
[04:21:00] xanderp: emerging
[04:22:00] xanderp: never had any problems until these new versions... (aughh!)
[04:22:00] dev-: did you run into problems with 2.4.16?
[04:22:00] dev-: 2.4.16+lirc
[04:22:00] dev-: specifically bitbanging
[04:22:00] dev-: heh
[04:22:00] \Grooby\: errrr
[04:22:00] \Grooby\: 2.6.14?
[04:22:00] dev-: er yeah
[04:22:00] dev-: heh
[04:22:00] \Grooby\: hehehehe
[04:23:00] xanderp: i did have a bitbanging problem in that, so went back to 2.6.13'ish
[04:23:00] dev-: yeah..
[04:23:00] dev-: 2.6.14 sucks
[04:23:00] dev-: googled around and it looks like you have to apply some crappy patch
[04:23:00] \Grooby\: *gasp*
[04:23:00] \Grooby\: hehehe
[04:23:00] dev-: i reverted to .13 too on the new box
[04:23:00] xanderp: was it because of the total removal of devfs?
[04:24:00] xanderp: (not that I used it)
[04:24:00] IA-Outdoors: dev-: to be clear, using irblast I can change channels on my directtv tuner without need for a usb/firewire port?
[04:24:00] xanderp: i think they gutted more than they intended... :(
[04:24:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: what?
[04:25:00] dev-: yeah it was a problem detecting config_i2c_algobit being enabled
[04:25:00] xanderp: done emerge. still no love.
[04:25:00] dev-: thats wacky man heh
[04:25:00] xanderp: checking the kernel options
[04:25:00] IA-Outdoors: dev-: I have a pvr-250 w/remote. I'd like to get it to where I can change channels via my directtv tuner (which doesn't have usb nor firewire port)
[04:25:00] IA-Outdoors: trying to figure out if I can make it work as is or if I need to be in the market for a different directtv tuner
[04:25:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: to my knowledge, infrared (ir) is recieved from an ir receiver, not a usb/firewire port
[04:26:00] dev-: infared
[04:26:00] xanderp: hehe
[04:26:00] IA-Outdoors: dev-: sorry, I was mixing the two
[04:26:00] IA-Outdoors: apparently you can do one of two things
[04:26:00] xanderp: i can pick up IR with my camcorder, but can't do anything with it ;P
[04:26:00] IA-Outdoors: use usb/firewire from pc to tuner
[04:26:00] IA-Outdoors: or IR
[04:26:00] dev-: you can control and receiver feeds from a firewire port, yes
[04:26:00] dev-: you can control from a usb port
[04:27:00] IA-Outdoors: but I have no usb nor firewire
[04:27:00] dev-: but an ir blaster on your pc has nothing to do with a usb/firewire port on your cablebox..
[04:27:00] dev-: i mean.. why would it
[04:27:00] dev-: you use a remote control (ir) that controls the cable box already.. right?
[04:27:00] dev-: or do you have to walk up to it to do things on it
[04:27:00] IA-Outdoors: yeah, you mean the one that came with it?
[04:27:00] dev-: heh
[04:28:00] dev-: i must be alot drunker than i thought
[04:28:00] xanderp: dev-: could you check your kernel options and see what you have for I2C support checked off for me please?
[04:28:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: i dont understand what the hell you're talking about dude!
[04:28:00] IA-Outdoors: lol, in plainer english....
[04:28:00] dev-: xanderp: i have some extra i2c things enabled for temperature sensors and stuff
[04:29:00] dev-: but the important things are: CONFIG_I2C_ALGOBIT=y CONFIG_I2C=y CONFIG_I2C_CHARDEV=y
[04:29:00] IA-Outdoors: I have a myth box and it's taking a feed from a directtv tuner. I would like to be able to change channels on the directtv tuner with the hauppauge remote connected to my pc
[04:29:00] xanderp: hrmm
[04:29:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: s you've read the docs on how to do that, right
[04:29:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: like the mythtv docs, or howtos on what hardware you need
[04:30:00] dev-: because i really hate typeing out things that are already so well documented
[04:30:00] dev-: and much more clearly stated than my drunkass could type out haha
[04:30:00] xanderp: dev-: crap crap crap... i have all that
[04:30:00] IA-Outdoors: yeah, let me read it again...that's the stuff that got me confused in the first place
[04:30:00] IA-Outdoors: ...but maybe I was reading it drunk off my ass
[04:31:00] dev-: that helps sometimes. i do my best work stoned/drunk heh
[04:31:00] dev-: thank god for tab completion though
[04:31:00] dev-: xanderp: hrmmm, you sure you didnt mess with devfs man? hehe
[04:31:00] xanderp: darts go straighter to the board after a few pints...
[04:31:00] dev-: because it looks like lirc is working fine
[04:31:00] dev-: based on the dmesg stuff you talked about
[04:31:00] xanderp: dev-: didn't so much as blink crossly at it
[04:32:00] xanderp: maybe it's calling it /dev/xanderpsux or something...
[04:32:00] dev-: heh
[04:32:00] dev-: you double check the gentoo wiki for anything you maybe missed?
[04:32:00] dev-: CONFIG_I2C_DEBUG_ALGO=y
[04:32:00] dev-: CONFIG_I2C_DEBUG_BUS=y
[04:32:00] dev-: CONFIG_I2C_SENSOR=y
[04:32:00] dev-: those are enabled too but i was trying to figure out what was up
[04:32:00] dev-: dont think they're required
[04:32:00] dev-: oh woops, the sensor crap is for lm_sensors
[04:32:00] dev-: temperature shit
[04:33:00] dev-: you dont need that
[04:33:00] xanderp: i did see some other bugs reported with lirc and gentoo... something about some people having to manually create the dev
[04:33:00] dev-: hrm
[04:33:00] xanderp: but thought that was for 0.7.3-rX
[04:34:00] xanderp: i have the worst luck with new builds...
[04:35:00] xanderp: is there a modprobe --verbose or something i can do?
[04:35:00] dev-: maybe a dumb question, but you have the ir receiver plugged into it right?
[04:35:00] xanderp: not a dumb q, but yes i do
[04:35:00] dev-: man i dunno..
[04:35:00] dev-: heh
[04:36:00] xanderp: what's the file with all the alias major shite in it?
[04:36:00] dev-: modules.conf
[04:36:00] xanderp: i'm going to poke that with a stick...
[04:36:00] dev-: but thats generated by gentoo, gotta modify the conf.d crap
[04:36:00] xanderp: yup... thanks
[04:37:00] dev-: np, gl. interested to know what it is in the end hehe
[04:37:00] xanderp: i have the LIRCD_OPTS="-d /dev/lirc0" in there
[04:37:00] xanderp: commenting out
[04:37:00] dev-: oh blah im sorry, /etc/modules.d
[04:37:00] dev-: :\
[04:38:00] dev-: you'll need to change that though, it'll /dev/lirc/0 when it does work
[04:39:00] xanderp: shoudl there be anything for lirc in /etc/modules.d/aliases ?
[04:39:00] dev-: i dont have anything there
[04:39:00] xanderp: kewl neither do i
[04:39:00] dev-: but my stuff doesnt work for you
[04:39:00] dev-: you may need to do something crazy
[04:40:00] xanderp: crazy, i was crazy once... two men in white coats came...
[04:40:00] \Grooby\: lol
[04:41:00] \Grooby\: what kinda box u use?
[04:41:00] \Grooby\: board I mean
[04:41:00] xanderp: damnit... it worked fine on a REALLY old kernel, i blasted that out and installed new and now it sux...
[04:41:00] xanderp: it's an epia m10k with a pvr350
[04:42:00] rage-: when I've got a machine with a front/backend working fine, and I have another machine that I'm trying to run a remote frontend on, do I need to set up any tuner settings or anything along those lines on the second machine?
[04:43:00] dev-: not if it doesnt have any tuners in it
[04:43:00] dev-: ;)
[04:43:00] \Grooby\: xanderp, really wierd..hmmm
[04:43:00] rage-: hmm when I go to the information section, I don't see any tuner information.. or guide information... etc
[04:44:00] rage-: but I can watch recorded programs off the backend machine on my second machine
[04:44:00] dev-: did you configure it to connect to your backend for mysql?
[04:45:00] xanderp: i've got a 64 bit gentoo install on 2.6.13 (flat out version, no r) and running 0.7.2 LIRC and that works like butter! damn damn damn
[04:45:00] rage-: I went through the general setup in mythtv-setup
[04:45:00] rage-: is that what you meant dev- ?
[04:45:00] dev-: no
[04:45:00] dev-: did you configure it to connect to your backend for mysql?
[04:46:00] dev-: sigh check ~/mythtv/mysql.txt
[04:46:00] dev-: and modify it appropriately
[04:46:00] dev-: ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt
[04:46:00] IA-Outdoors: dev-: ok, fundamental question...so irblasting requires customer hardware? http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-8.html#ss8.7
[04:47:00] rage-: ah, I thought the mythtv-setup generated that dev-
[04:47:00] kartom (n=kartom@host217-42-162-178.range217-42.btcentralplus.com) Quit (Client Quit)
[04:47:00] xanderp: that mysql.txt file gets alot of people... with you could just set that from mythtv-setup
[04:47:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: not if you have an irblaster
[04:47:00] IA-Outdoors: I'm caught up in semantics
[04:47:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: irblaster is not a term, its a peice of hardware.
[04:48:00] IA-Outdoors: k, so in short I can't use the pvr-250 remote for that purpose
[04:48:00] dev-: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=irbl . . . oogle+Search
[04:48:00] xanderp: maybe i should use "--with-driver=legomindstorm" (hehe)
[04:48:00] dev-: IA-Outdoors: check out that url
[04:48:00] rage-: dev-, now I'm getting an error in my console: Couldn't read file: rbuf://192.168.0.1:6543/media/myth/ringbuf2.nuv
[04:49:00] dev-: double check your settings, like masterserverip, backend server ip, etc
[04:51:00] xanderp: maybe i should just crawl in a hole and wait for LIRC 0.7.4 :(
[04:51:00] dev-: cant find anyone else having the same problem?
[04:51:00] dev-: i mean on google/groups
[04:51:00] dev-: hehe
[04:51:00] \Grooby\: xanderp, what version of lirc are you using?
[04:52:00] xanderp: 0.7.2
[04:52:00] \Grooby\: ok
[04:52:00] dev-: same one im runnin on the new box ;/
[04:52:00] \Grooby\: dev, you using amd64 right?
[04:52:00] xanderp: 0.7.3 wanted crap tonnes of stuff ~ and then caused blocks... so i said screw it
[04:52:00] dev-: no, my boxes just have regular xp procs
[04:53:00] xanderp: this is for my 32bit machine
[04:53:00] \Grooby\: ok
[04:53:00] xanderp: my 64bit works fine
[04:53:00] \Grooby\: i didn't have to do anything funky for my 64bit either
[04:53:00] Fosten (n=Fosten@24-48-130-196.pittpa.adelphia.net) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[04:53:00] \Grooby\: that's really wierd
[04:53:00] xanderp: i would just put the 350 in the 64bit and be done, but i don't have any other means of doing remote for the frontend

[04:54:00] \Grooby\: done
[04:54:00] \Grooby\: tee hee hee
[04:54:00] rage-: dev-, well you got me through that problem.. now I get to try and figure out the rest
[04:54:00] rage-: thanks though ;)
[04:54:00] xanderp: i'd like to pluck out the HD LED and put an IR diode in the case there....
[04:54:00] \Grooby\: that would be cool
[04:54:00] \Grooby\: ;)
[04:55:00] dev-: rage-: np, you basically set every ip you see to your backend. and make sure mysql is listening on all ips/external interface
[04:55:00] xanderp: i'm going to compile a 2.6.12 kernel and see if that is pissed as well
[04:56:00] \Grooby\: i'll cross my toes for ya
[04:56:00] \Grooby\: my fingers are busy typing
[04:56:00] dev-: lol now you're grasping at straws
[04:56:00] dev-: you should spend some time on google heh
[04:56:00] dev-: thats what id do
[04:57:00] xanderp: it just pisses me off that a clean install is screwed up for me...
[04:58:00] dev-: shit happens dude
[04:58:00] \Grooby\: xanderp, send me the board
[04:58:00] dev-: hehe
[04:58:00] \Grooby\: i'll get it up
[04:58:00] \Grooby\: and send it back to you in about 2 yrs
[04:58:00] xanderp: and my amd64 has been messed with to no end, and works like a champ!
[04:58:00] dev-: gotta find out whats different, find the little oddity, and go to town on it
[04:58:00] dev-: things work, things dont
[04:58:00] dev-: troubleshooting's the best part, you're lucky
[04:58:00] dev-: once it all works, you got nothing to do it sucks
[04:59:00] \Grooby\: dev, he can always watch porn
[04:59:00] \Grooby\: that's what I do
[04:59:00] dev-: bah that gets so old
[04:59:00] dev-: can only watch for 5–10 minutes
[04:59:00] xanderp: i've got NO pvr in the mean time, as the wife won't let me plop the full tower backend on the floor upstairs by the tv... :(
[04:59:00] dev-: then i jizz
[04:59:00] dev-: then i dont watch anymore
[04:59:00] dev-: heh

[05:01:00] \Grooby\: but read even the 1.4ghz won't do HD
[05:01:00] xanderp: nice, just for grins i checked a --update --newuse --deep world, and the only thing it wants to mess with is grep!!!

[05:03:00] dev-: we suck at everything else
[05:03:00] WAR_CH|LD: you don't need a recycle bin for stupid windows fs's.
[05:03:00] WAR_CH|LD: if you have a clue. :)
[05:03:00] dev-: i should load my egg on this network
[05:03:00] WAR_CH|LD: wondering if reiserfs has ths same sort of functionality.

[05:21:00] djperegrine: I only have a 30 gig HD :O
[05:21:00] dev-: you will always have to trim the database or else all of a sudden you wont be recording your series anymore
[05:21:00] dev-: because the channels are gay and only bought 3 seasons
[05:21:00] dev-: you go through 3 seasons
[05:21:00] dev-: and all of sudden its not recording anymore
[05:21:00] dev-: hehe
[05:21:00] djperegrine: really?
[05:21:00] djperegrine: thats wierd
[05:21:00] dev-: yes, how else do you think myth knwos you've "already recorded" something
[05:21:00] dev-: it keeps a database
[05:21:00] dev-: so what happens when you record all the shows that channel has
[05:21:00] dev-: 3 seasons worth
[05:22:00] dev-: you never get to record that show again unless you override
[05:22:00] dev-: for...each..individual...show
[05:22:00] djperegrine: yea...
[05:22:00] djperegrine: so?
[05:22:00] Chutt: if you've already recorded it once, why would you want to record it again?
[05:22:00] djperegrine: yea exactly
[05:22:00] dev-: Chutt: because you like it, but its only 3 seasons long
[05:22:00] Chutt: if you wanted to keep it, shouldn't have deleted it.
[05:22:00] xanderp: do they recycle the recording indexes?
[05:22:00] dev-: so if its only three seasons long, go ahead and expire the schedule recordings thing
[05:22:00] dev-: but they're not removed from the database. gotta do that manually
[05:23:00] Chutt: err
[05:23:00] dev-: which is fine. but you gonna teach them how to use mysql?
[05:23:00] Chutt: again, if you wanted to keep it, why did you delete it in the first place?
[05:23:00] Chutt: that doesn't make any sense at all
[05:23:00] dev-: Chutt: ok. i will clarify for you.
[05:23:00] xanderp: install mythburn for them and tell them to figure it out..
[05:23:00] djperegrine: What is the bug exactly though?
[05:24:00] djperegrine: you can edit the "what I recorded and never to be recorded again list"
[05:24:00] djperegrine: if thats what you mean
[05:24:00] Krazylegz (n=Krazyleg@pcp01478332pcs.quaryv01.pa.comcast.net) Quit ()
[05:24:00] xanderp: teach them to always do 'delete and allow re-record'
[05:24:00] dev-: Chutt: you schedule a recording for star trek the next generation. spike tv only owns 3 seasons of it. you go through 3 seasons, and now myth will not record it anymore because its "previously recorded" them all. the only way to correct this problem, to record tng because its not playing on any other channel, and you've seen all 7 seasons anyway, so who cares, lets rerecord them again just to have "something to watch":
[05:24:00] dev-: you need to go into mysql, and clear the shows
[05:24:00] Chutt: i still don't understand
[05:24:00] dev-: its not a bug, its just something yo have to support after a while
[05:24:00] Chutt: you've already recorded something
[05:24:00] Chutt: you specifically deleted it, i assume after you watched it
[05:24:00] dev-: you dont get why people would fall into this problem?
[05:24:00] djperegrine: yea I am with Chutt here
[05:24:00] Chutt: _why_ would you want to record it again?
[05:24:00] dev-: the station only owns 3 seasons
[05:25:00] Chutt: so?
[05:25:00] dev-: you go through 3 seaons
[05:25:00] dev-: it repeats
[05:25:00] Chutt: what's that have to do with anything?
[05:25:00] Chutt: again, so?
[05:25:00] dev-: and repeats
[05:25:00] opello: but some shows have a high rewatchability, and you maybe can't store them all
[05:25:00] xanderp: and if you do want to record it again, you can fix that in the frontend
[05:25:00] dev-: and repeats
[05:25:00] Chutt: you recorded it
[05:25:00] Chutt: opello, that's why they make dvdrs
[05:25:00] dev-: so if you liked that show that only recorded 3 seasons
[05:25:00] Chutt: if you want something, save it.
[05:25:00] opello: what if i don't want to save it, and just want to see some startrek in the evening after work ..
[05:25:00] dev-: not everyone buys every show on dvd
[05:25:00] xanderp: dev-: you can clear that flag in the frontend, you don't have to use sql
[05:25:00] djperegrine: yea
[05:25:00] Chutt: you can burn it
[05:25:00] djperegrine: you can edit the list
[05:25:00] dev-: xanderp: if you're setup to auto-expire
[05:25:00] dev-: it will add them
[05:26:00] Chutt: you can even tell the scheduler to ignore the oldrecorded flag for a show
[05:26:00] opello: maybe i don't want to waste it and then have to pick a show or disc to watch
[05:26:00] dev-: djperegrine: the expire list? where?
[05:26:00] djperegrine: yea
[05:26:00] dev-: Chutt: but you would have to do it for each individual show
[05:26:00] djperegrine: its under manage recordings
[05:26:00] xanderp: dev-: you can just delete them from the previously recorded list in the frontend
[05:26:00] Chutt: no, each individual recording type.
[05:26:00] dev-: xanderp: and you can do that for an entire series?
[05:26:00] Chutt: unless you schedule every show individually.
[05:26:00] xanderp: you can remove ALL of the show yes
[05:27:00] xanderp: you can still remove ALL of a single show...
[05:27:00] dev-: lol this theme cant show preivously recorded
[05:27:00] dev-: purplegalaxy == lame
[05:27:00] xanderp: hehe
[05:27:00] dev-: i always go through mythweb to do this stuff
[05:28:00] dev-: so ive never gone in here, and i just went into mysql and cleared the table heh
[05:28:00] Chutt: 'Look for duplicates in current and previous recordings'
[05:28:00] dev-: so if theres a way for joe idiot to do it, i need to figure this out for the gf heh
[05:28:00] djperegrine: haha
[05:28:00] xanderp: i love themes that have missing functions... i mean, who would go through the effort of making a theme, and then just say: the hell with it, this is enough"
[05:28:00] djperegrine: xanderp, thats not why the dont have it
[05:28:00] djperegrine: they are just old
[05:29:00] dev-: was messing around with themes, trying new ones, so much for purplegalaxy. back to tittivilus
[05:29:00] xanderp: ahh... REV bumps then aye?
[05:29:00] xanderp: i like lulius the best
[05:29:00] dev-: ok, on the frontend, it lists each show invidiaully
[05:29:00] dev-: you would have to go into each one and click delete
[05:29:00] dev-: that could be 50shows
[05:29:00] xanderp: nope
[05:30:00] xanderp: you can select 'all episodes'
[05:30:00] dev-: ahhh.
[05:30:00] dev-: when i try to delete it you can delete all.
[05:30:00] dev-: nice
[05:30:00] djperegrine: lol
[05:30:00] Chutt: or just set up your shows to record with 'Look for duplicates in current recordings only' instead of 'Look for duplicates in current and previous recordings'.
[05:30:00] xanderp: yup
[05:31:00] Chutt: or just not delete things that you want to keep.
[05:31:00] dev-: mysql is faster tho ;p
[05:31:00] xanderp: there is still an issue with a mythbox that has been running for 17 years recording and deleting every channel every hour and filling up the 'previously recorded' tables in sql
[05:32:00] dev-: i might be useing the same db in 17 years
[05:32:00] dev-: hehe!

[17:33:00] bush_wack: i have a happaugue card set up on video 0 and a plextor connectx set up as video 1

[17:34:00] bush_wack: mythtv sees both devices and i am able to configure them but my only options for viewing or recording is with the happaugue card
[17:34:00] poop: yup, so you will only get unencrypted (usually broadcast) channels
[17:34:00] GreyFoxx: poop: No, they are still seperate,. but if you have duplicate channels on each then it will recording from whichever card is free based on your schedule
[17:35:00] sphing: poop: so recording hd subscription channels is out of the question

[17:36:00] bush_wack: i can view live tv but the connectx is just an encoder box. i cannot get mythtv to use the plextor as the source for a recording
[17:37:00] GreyFoxx: does the plextor connect to the same video source as your other card ?
[17:37:00] poop: bush: You can probably think of the tuner/ receiver part as unimportant
[17:37:00] poop: or at least separate
[17:37:00] bush_wack: no the happaugue is video 0 and the plextor is video 1.
[17:38:00] GreyFoxx: grrr, ok, m aybe I'm not being clear
[17:38:00] GreyFoxx: Do they both connect to the SAME SOURCE OF VIDEO SIGNAL ?
[17:38:00] sphing: poop: do you happen to have any links on 5c?
[17:39:00] bush_wack: i understand this time. no, the happaugue is connected to cable and the plextor is connected to a camcorder
[17:39:00] GreyFoxx: bush_wack: Ok
[17:40:00] poop: sphing: This has a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDTV#United_States
[17:40:00] GreyFoxx: So I assume you have not configured myth with any sort of programs/channels/etc for the plextor
[17:40:00] bush_wack: how would you do that as there is no tv tuner
[17:41:00] GreyFoxx: Well if it connected to something like a cable box you could use an external script (which myth can call) to change channels
[17:41:00] bush_wack: when i go to the device setup there is only composite and s-video
[17:41:00] GreyFoxx: a tuner is not required for myth to know there are channels available on that input
[17:41:00] sphing: LOL
[17:41:00] bush_wack: i only want to use the plextor for my camcorder and vcr tapes
[17:42:00] bush_wack: and the only input jacks on the plextor are rca and s-video
[17:42:00] GreyFoxx: bush_wack: You might be able to use the C and Y keys to change cards and inputs while watching LiveTV
[17:43:00] bush_wack: ok. let me try that and see what happens
[17:43:00] GreyFoxx: but myth is not designed to work if there is no programming data. It is not designed to work like a VCR with no knowledge of exactly what it is recording, so you mgith run into problems
[17:43:00] poop: Could you could define your own channel set to use in a source-device relationship?
[17:43:00] GreyFoxx: poop: Certainly
[17:43:00] GreyFoxx: and even ppopulate fake program data on that channel
[17:44:00] bush_wack: i could try, mythtv added support specifically for the plextor connectx so it should be able to work somehow
[17:44:00] poop: yup, make the external changer /bin/true if necessary
[17:44:00] GreyFoxx: bush_wack: The support is for using it to capture and record TV where channels and program lists exist
[17:44:00] sphing: LOL
[17:44:00] sphing: again... in circle
[17:44:00] sphing: s

[18:16:00] sphing: netrix: nfs root has been problematic for myth... howso?
[18:16:00] netrix: sphing: i ment with the diskless package. because it has a master root shared by the clients the permissions are strict and i think it may cause problems with myth.
[18:16:00] laga: netrix: yep. but you can fix that easily.
[18:16:00] netrix: but the advantage is you can update myth from one place.

[18:20:00] laga: netrix: "disable ide support in kernel". linux will spend a lot of time probing the ide busses. you probably shouldn't do that, though, if you're using a dvd-drive or something.

[18:28:00] ** eidolon sighs. **
[18:28:00] netrix: GreyFoxx: in that case http://packages.debian.org/stable/misc/diskless
[18:29:00] netrix: GreyFoxx: so you have a seperate root for each frontend?
[18:29:00] laga: netrix: umm, no. one thing that's bugging me is that new config files don't get copied over to the client-specific /etc/ when i install software.
[18:29:00] GreyFoxx: netrix: Correct
[18:30:00] netrix: GreyFoxx: okay, i sort of thought that was the easier method. i am trying to leverage diskless so i don't have to update and maintain multiple roots.

[18:31:00] GreyFoxx: but I would make those seperate if I was nfs mounting them
[18:31:00] laga: rjune: i can provide you with my pkd.def files, but they're faults, obviously.
