[00:00:00] Bio: I want it to go to PLUGIN mythvideo and then automatically select LISTING from there.
[00:01:00] Bio: can actions be queued?
[00:01:00] Bio: like <action>PLUGIN mythvideo;LISTING</action>
[00:02:00] juski: Bio: on my main menu it's called 'media library' – and that's where mythvideo & mythmusic live

[00:03:00] Majn00n: question: if you have like comcast cable and buy a PVR card do u still need the comcast cable box or will the card do the job as well?
[00:04:00] Bio: You might need an IRBlaster
[00:04:00] juski: depends on the box, Majn00n
[00:04:00] juski: i.e. whether or not it does any decryption etc
[00:05:00] MrSpiffy: juski, gues what – it's the TV
[00:05:00] juski: its the TV?!
[00:05:00] juski: heheh
[00:05:00] MrSpiffy: yep
[00:05:00] Majn00n: well I have directv so I need the receiver anyway but I was just curious if anyone who is using comast can do without the comcast box
[00:05:00] juski: of all the things...
[00:05:00] MrSpiffy: I tried it upstairs and it works just like yours
[00:05:00] MrSpiffy: so I tried the cable from uptstairs down here – same reult
[00:05:00] MrSpiffy: its the TV
[00:06:00] MrSpiffy: the guy at via said to try running the bios at 640x480
[00:06:00] MrSpiffy: kind of a last ditch guess
[00:06:00] juski: I had the EPIA board in work a while ago (showing off)... and the monitors there autoselect... they took a while to lock on the video standard
[00:06:00] MrSpiffy: hmm
[00:06:00] MrSpiffy: veddy interesting
[00:06:00] MrSpiffy: bus schtupid
[00:07:00] MrSpiffy: it's an old jvc tv
[00:07:00] MrSpiffy: late 80s I think
[00:07:00] MrSpiffy: it flashes twice then nada til the driver load
[00:07:00] MrSpiffy: very odd
[00:07:00] juski: must be some odd timing issue with the vid. signal then
[00:07:00] juski: maybe it's not 'by the book' NTSC
[00:08:00] splat1 is now known as splAt1
[00:08:00] MrSpiffy: hmmmm
[00:08:00] MrSpiffy: veddy interesting
[00:10:00] MrSpiffy: but schtupid
[00:10:00] juski: so, Majn00n – depends what method the cableco are using to send the TV down the cable
[00:11:00] ** MrSpiffy dislikes cable boxes **

[00:11:00] juski: if it's just plain ole analogue, chances are you can bypass the tuner box
[00:11:00] MrSpiffy: which is why I still have dumb basic analog cable
[00:11:00] h3x: does the hauppauge wintv go-plus work with mythtv?
[00:11:00] h3x: its model 1033 (if that makes any difference)
[00:11:00] MrSpiffy: supplemented with a netflix account
[00:12:00] h3x: hey... analog cable rules.
[00:12:00] h3x: :p
[00:12:00] Majn00n: ahh so like digital cable wont work I see or HDTV
[00:12:00] juski: if it wasn't for digital cable I wouldn't have broadband
[00:12:00] juski: Majn00n – you need a box for digital and HDTV
[00:12:00] MrSpiffy: digital cable here has a lot to be desired
[00:12:00] MrSpiffy: I've seen it
[00:12:00] MrSpiffy: blech
[00:12:00] juski: it has here too.. 350+ channels and nothing on
[00:13:00] MrSpiffy: quality is poo-poo here
[00:13:00] h3x: does the hauppauge wintv go-plus work with mythtv?
[00:13:00] MrSpiffy: at least a tmy parents house
[00:13:00] MrSpiffy: h3x I am not sure
[00:13:00] Majn00n: yeah like the pink floyd song "100 channels and nothing but shit on tv"
[00:13:00] h3x: :(
[00:13:00] juski: we've got 1.8mbits on all channels – it's very good when the channel has been optimized properly before tx
[00:13:00] MrSpiffy: h3x, I suspect it is a brooktree device (guess)
[00:13:00] h3x: whats a brooktree device?
[00:13:00] MrSpiffy: h3x, google on bttv wintv-go
[00:13:00] juski: h3x – sounds like a standard v4l capture device... software encoding
[00:14:00] MrSpiffy: probably
[00:14:00] h3x: so it should work?
[00:14:00] MrSpiffy: google it man – if the linux bttv (brooktree) module drives it, then it should work
[00:14:00] MrSpiffy: I use an old wintv 401 card – bttv, v4l software capture

[00:18:00] juski: you haven't bought it already have you, h3x?
[00:19:00] MrSpiffy: but it is a bttv card so it should "work"
[00:19:00] MrSpiffy: mono sound
[00:19:00] ** MrSpiffy shudders **
[00:19:00] juski: but you can upsample it to 5.1 in xine lol
[00:20:00] MrSpiffy: sick man
[00:20:00] MrSpiffy: 5.1 mono
[00:24:00] h3x: are you sure its mono sound?

[00:36:00] NightBird: mce are the microsoft certified cards
[00:37:00] NightBird: that means you can use them in the microsoft tv version of their os...
[00:37:00] NightBird: they don't have a remote, but they have a radio tuner...
[00:37:00] NightBird: not sure if myth can pick up the radio tuner....
[00:38:00] eidolon: hm.
[00:38:00] eidolon: i'm gonna need the remote, yes?
[00:38:00] eidolon: i'm most likely going to run knoppmyth, which IIRC, has a prebuilt kernel with LIRC configured for the hauppage remote.
[00:39:00] Krazylegz: Yes it does.
[00:39:00] eidolon: okay, so i should do that. odd that the non-mce version is cheaper. :)
[00:39:00] eidolon: er.
[00:39:00] eidolon: no, it isn't. never mind :)
[00:40:00] NightBird: you don't need a remote, but....
[00:40:00] NightBird: it makes things a bit nicer..
[00:40:00] eidolon: well. if i'm going to park this in with the stereo gear, i'll want to control it via remote, yes?
[00:40:00] NightBird: or get a wireless keyboard
[00:40:00] NightBird: :P
[00:40:00] eidolon: true. bulky though.
[00:40:00] NightBird: yeah
[00:42:00] NightBird: but it allows for using it like a linux box as well...

Can I recreate it somehow? mythtv-setup doesn't do it.
[03:14:00] juski: what's mythtv-setup set to use as the ringbuffer location? 'cache/cache?

[03:16:00] B5Duster: juski, yes
[03:16:00] juski: and when you ls /cache/cache ?
[03:16:00] juski: nothing there?
[03:16:00] B5Duster: nothing
[03:17:00] juski: you set the right permissions?
[03:17:00] B5Duster: yes. Mythtv user has access to all of cache
[03:17:00] juski: you could run mythbackend in a terminal session... see what the error message is when you try to watch tv
[03:18:00] B5Duster: drwxr-xr-x 4 mythtv mythtv 4096 Sep 16 18:14 cache
[03:18:00] B5Duster: juski, See, that's just it. I don't see anything that resembles an error msg

[03:18:00] juski: was it working before, B5Duster?
[03:18:00] B5Duster: before I was getting unable to open cache/cache/ringbuf1.nuv so i created cache/cache and it never complained again
[03:19:00] B5Duster: but instated of the black screen I get the unable to init error from mythfrontend
[03:19:00] B5Duster: no, not really :)
[03:19:00] B5Duster: This is a new install

[03:19:00] juski: has livetv ever worked for you in mythtv, B5Duster?
[03:20:00] juski: if it has, I don't think the problem lies with mythtv
[03:20:00] juski: oops.. I mean if it HASN'T
[03:20:00] joat: my program listings are off by 4 hours, and I'm guessing because I had one time zone or another wrong somewhere
[03:20:00] B5Duster: well it has on other machines of similar design
[03:20:00] juski: that ain't the same thing, B5Duster
[03:20:00] joat: I tried changing time zone adjustment to auto in mythsetup, and re-ran mythfilldatabase, with no change

[03:21:00] B5Duster: I know, I know
[03:21:00] B5Duster: I've never encountered anything like this before though
[03:21:00] joat: any suggestions?
[03:21:00] juski: I've read something on the users mailing list about this, B5Duster... video seems to work by catting /dev/video0 into mplayer, but doesn't in mythtv
[03:22:00] juski: joat – a while ago Qt was causing issues with the time being messed up in the EPG
[03:22:00] juski: maybe your linux timezone is out of step with your Tv grabber
[03:22:00] B5Duster: no I know, you're actually viewing recorded video when watching livetv in myth, but all the problems I've ever had required troubleshooting the cap card – this is new territory for me
[03:23:00] joat: I'm using a fairly old version of myth
[03:23:00] joat: the last stable in portage
[03:23:00] juski: I suggest searching the users (and dev) mailing list, B5
[03:23:00] B5Duster: juski, Thanks, I shall.

[03:23:00] joat: yea

[03:25:00] juski: and.. did you try entering an offset of 4 hours into mythtv, joat?
[03:26:00] joat: not yet, I wanted to see if I could fix it correctly, rather than just sticking that in
[03:26:00] joat: it was originally set to none, not auto, and if I can't figure out where the tz is wrong, I'll just try + and – 4
[03:27:00] juski: I'm damned if I can remember where linux keeps its TZ files lol

[05:47:00] GreyFoxx: the pvr250 / pvr150 are by far the most common. quality is good, uses no CPU for compression. But they are standard tv only
[05:47:00] eidolon: hm. what's a wintv model 190?
[05:48:00] h3x01A5: what do you mean by standard tv only
[05:48:00] ** eidolon assumes this is something to avoid. **
[05:48:00] GreyFoxx: h3x01A5: No HDTV, and no DVB/satellite
[05:48:00] GreyFoxx: the PVR xxx cards are for standard analog cable
[05:48:00] h3x01A5: what is DVB
[05:48:00] GreyFoxx: digital video broadcast. Digital cable/Satellite
[05:49:00] h3x01A5: is there any out there that work with both
[05:49:00] h3x01A5: and are mythtv compatible
[05:49:00] GreyFoxx: no
[05:49:00] h3x01A5: im assuming by DVB you're referring to the pcHD3000?
[05:50:00] GreyFoxx: well, maybe the pchdtv3000. But the standard capture doesn't use hardware compression. It will do over the air HDTV and some unencrypted digital cable (which is getting more rare every day)
[05:50:00] GreyFoxx: h3x01A5: no, dvb is dvb.
[05:50:00] h3x01A5: out of curiousity, what card do you use
[05:50:00] h3x01A5: and what type of signal do you have
[05:50:00] GreyFoxx: My box currently has 3 pvr250's on regular cable
[05:51:00] GreyFoxx: I use to have a dvbs card connected to my dish, but nothing is interesting in the unencrypted stuff so I took it out
[05:51:00] h3x01A5: what is the difference between the 150 and 250 model and can you give me a rough est of how much these cards go for

[05:55:00] D-side: if it doesnt say "MCE" on the end, probably.

[09:49:00] timschmidt: You're telling me... I've just re-worked my setup from a 1.4Ghz duron with my 7NIF2 to a master backend (the 1.4 duron in another motherboard) running Debian stable + Xen 2.0.7, with Myth as a DomU, Asterisk@Home as a DomU, and an Ubuntu Breezy remote-desktop-via-NX as a DomU...
[09:49:00] B5Duster: but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to stop dropping frames and de-sync a/v

[18:41:00] guitar256: Also, ivtv isn't getting loaded when booting, i'm pretty sure this is related
[18:42:00] PatrickDK: ya, you need ivtv loaded
[18:46:00] guitar256: i added all the lines into modprobe.conf and it's still not loading up on its own
[18:47:00] MrSpiffy: guitar256, the items in modprobe.conf get loaded with those options when a program runs that requires them
[18:48:00] MrSpiffy: guitar256, so if you want to load the ivtv module at startup put it in your rc.local file "modprobe module options"
[18:48:00] guitar256: well mythbackend loads up, which needs them, but fails cause ivtv isn't loaded
[18:48:00] guitar256: so it's not calling modprobe.conf

[21:24:00] DonLKSAB: Eyyy GreyFoxx :-)
[21:24:00] iceman: guitar256: thats a thought...
[21:24:00] ** guitar256 racks one up for the noobs **
[21:24:00] DonLKSAB: It dident work to change primary display yesterday :-(
[21:24:00] GreyFoxx: the bitrate controls data size, not resolution :)
[21:25:00] DonLKSAB: I kept on trying all night :-)
[21:25:00] iceman: haven't noticed any bitrate settings yet?
[21:25:00] GreyFoxx: DonLKSAB: I know it's doable. I've done it
[21:25:00] DonLKSAB: Yeah
[21:25:00] DonLKSAB: Im reading around
[21:25:00] GreyFoxx: icewm if you have an old software card I don';t remember the specific name of the settings
[21:27:00] ** GreyFoxx has to run **
[21:27:00] xris: GreyFoxx: so I'm finally upgrading myth... hopefully that'll mean I can fix some nuvexport bugs.
[21:30:00] guitar256: Okkay...I've booted into the new kernel, nvidia drivers don't work, yum won't install them, so i'm downloading nvidia_driver_7667_pkg1.run and i'm about to sh it....is it okay to do this while i'm in the new kernel, or should i reboot into the old kernel and do it?
[21:31:00] redfox: guitar256, no you want to be in the new kernel

[23:31:00] GreyFoxx: fun stuff
[23:32:00] jhoke: The beauty of Linux ... things work ...no neeed to upgrade... its also a curse I guess... haven'[t had to look at MoBo;s CPUs etc in years
[23:33:00] jhoke: In a FE/BE config, the capture cards (hdtv and pvr's) go in the BE right? So the BE needs to be fairly beefy.. but the FE can be a bit less? I am thinking of running the FE off a diskless box for cooling/sound just want to make sure I grok it right
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: the be only needs to be beefy if you go with cheaper framegrabber cards
[23:34:00] jhoke: I thought HDTV ike the 3000 needed a bit more CPU
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: if you get cards with hardware compression (or are using hdtv stuff) then the cpu doesn't need todo much work
[23:34:00] GreyFoxx: that;s playback
[23:34:00] jhoke: Ah.. FE... k
[23:35:00] GreyFoxx: but you can still do diskless FE's :)
[23:35:00] GreyFoxx: jhoke: If you capture standard cable with the hdtv3000 it uses software compression., If you use it to grab ASTC HDTV the stuff is already mpeg2 as it comes in
[23:35:00] jhoke: I plan on the BE being in the basement ... (building a house now) connected by gigabit ether to the rest of the network. BE will basically just be a box wiht lotsa disks and capture cards
[23:36:00] GreyFoxx: jhoke: yup, that's how many do it when they have multiple FE's
[23:36:00] GreyFoxx: I've got a machine in my basement that stores all media/captures and 4 diskless frontends around the house for playback
[23:37:00] jhoke: Grey: Thanks, so If i just use the 3000 for over the air HDTV and keep my pvr250 (or get a 500) for cable then the CPU is not all that intense, but the FE for playback of HD will be cpu heavy?
[23:37:00] jhoke: Grey: Exactly the setup I am looking at (multi FE)

[23:38:00] GreyFoxx: I use 3 PC based frontends and 1 MediaMVP
