[00:34:00] MythLogBot (n=PircBot@linode.beirdo.ca) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:34:00] ChanServ sets mode +v MythLogBot
[00:34:00] sphery: http://svn.mythtv.org/
[00:34:00] Tanthrix: So svn co http://svn.mythtv.org/svn/trunk/mythtv then?
[00:34:00] sphery: Yeah. And same for mythtv-plugins and mythtv-themes
[00:34:00] Tanthrix: Righto.
[00:34:00] sphery: Since you're compiling, anyway, might as well.
[00:35:00] simon_c: Humm. I think my problem is the channels aren't setup correctly. Hummm
[00:35:00] sphery: I compiled a new version Friday, and IIRC, only 2 commits have gone in since and one of them was a patch I sent in (and, therefore, have already applied to my version).
[00:35:00] sphery: So, it seems pretty stable right now.
[00:35:00] fatmatt: Beirdo: can you tell me where nuvexport expects to find mplayer?
[00:36:00] sphery: Just as long as you're not a DVB user... (and you're not)  :)
[00:36:00] Beirdo: not off hand
[00:37:00] Krazylegz: The bot is back!
[00:37:00] ** Krazylegz does a little dance **
[00:37:00] sphery: Yeah. Some tattletale mentioned it to Beirdo...
[00:37:00] sphery: Since it wasn't logged, though, we'll never know who it was.
[00:37:00] sphery: :)
[00:37:00] Beirdo: stupid bot
[00:38:00] Tanthrix: Hrm. Is svm the same as svn?
[00:39:00] sphery: No....
[00:39:00] sphery: Where's svm?
[00:39:00] Flik (n=Flik@d205-250-145-88.bchsia.telus.net) Quit ("Leaving")
[00:39:00] Tanthrix: "urpmi svn" installed libsvn, quite a few other things, and svm
[00:39:00] Tanthrix: But no svn commant
[00:40:00] Tanthrix: Svm is for svn mirroring it seems.
[00:40:00] sphery: SVM: Support Vector Machine
[00:40:00] sphery: :)
[00:40:00] Tanthrix: Mandrake fails me once again.
[00:40:00] Tanthrix: DESCRIPTION
[00:40:00] Tanthrix: svm mirrors remote repository accissible via SVN::Ra interface to a local
[00:40:00] Tanthrix: repository.
[00:40:00] sphery: you sure there's no svn command?
[00:41:00] fatmatt: Beirdo: I've got mplayer and ffmpeg in /usr/bin but all the nuvexport stuff is in /usr/local/bin would that be an issue?
[00:42:00] sphery: maybe there's an "svn-cli" package or something for the "SVN Command Line Interface"
[00:42:00] Tanthrix: sphery: Aye. locate svn only shows up libsvn stuff
[00:43:00] Tanthrix: Urpmi again shows rapidsvn, libsvn stuff, cvs2svn, python-svn stuff
[00:43:00] Beirdo: not sure right now, sorry.
[00:43:00] Beirdo: I need a nap
[00:44:00] Krazylegz: Having a good vacation?
[00:44:00] Beirdo: had.
[00:44:00] Beirdo: I'm home
[00:44:00] Krazylegz: Oh. Bollocks.
[00:45:00] Krazylegz: Well, WAS it a good vacation?
[00:45:00] fatmatt: Beirdo: no probs, I'll butcher the script a bit, see if I can make things worse
[00:46:00] Beirdo: yeah, it was an excellent vacation
[00:47:00] syle (n=blah@unaffiliated/syle) has joined #mythtv-users

[00:55:00] Tanthrix: I never thought to do something crazy and try "urpmi subversion" ....
[00:55:00] DarkBeer_ (i=darkbeer@12-202-193-207.client.insightBB.com) Quit (Read error: 113 (No route to host))
[00:56:00] ** Tanthrix slaps Tanthrix around a bit with a large trout **
[00:58:00] syle: how do you get mixer device to work? don;t you just set mixer to your alsa:default to?
[01:00:00] Agrajag-: just default
[01:00:00] sphery: syle: If you have "ALSA:default" specified for the audio output device, you should specify "default" for the mixer device (although "ALSA:default" will work, too--at least in SVN).
[01:00:00] sphery: If you have /dev/dsp specified, use /dev/mixer (both of those may contain numbers, like /dev/dsp0)
[01:01:00] otwin (n=Use@217.31.78.25) has left #mythtv-users
[01:01:00] sphery: Tanthrix: glad you found it.  :)
[01:01:00] syle: i'm putting volume up and down
[01:01:00] syle: does nothing
[01:04:00] syle: Current versions of MythTV (I'm using 0.18.1 right now) allow you to specify a mixer device in the audio settings. While changing the output device from "/dev/dsp" to "ALSA:default" is well documented in this howto and in the official documentation, neither of them mention the necessary changes to the mixer device: If you're using ALSA, change the mixer device from "/dev/mixer" to "default".
[01:04:00] simon_c: I'm having real problems getting my channel frequencies setup correctly. Can anone give me a hand. I'm in the UK tyring to setup the terestrial analogue broadcast channels.
[01:04:00] syle: so maybe i don;t use ALSA , i;ll try that
[01:04:00] simon_c: or point me at the right docs.
[01:15:00] fatmatt: Beirdo: this guys patch seems to get past those errors, though I'm using transcode instead of ffmpeg so I don't get errors https://svn.forevermore.net/nuvexport/ticket/44
[01:16:00] fatmatt: and transcode doesn't seem to like the crop broadcast overscan option
[01:17:00] nuongu1: fatmatt, sphery, beirdo, are you guys the mythtv developers?
[01:17:00] ** fatmatt is not anything like that **
[01:17:00] fatmatt: I can't write code, Chutt is the dev
[01:18:00] nuongu1: Well, I can't figure out how to fix the tv-audio mute on channel change issue...
[01:18:00] nuongu1: So... I might just reboot, kill some newbs in halo, befoer I get back to my mythtv issues...
[01:19:00] fatmatt: nuongu1: have you tried changing the "myth controls volume" option?
[01:19:00] Krazylegz (n=Krazyleg@pcp0010326949pcs.coatsv01.pa.comcast.net) Quit ()
[01:19:00] nuongu1: yup
[01:20:00] fatmatt: if you can work out a way to get the volume running again, you can add a channel change script that'll run each time you change channels I think.
[01:20:00] fatmatt: Though, thats the long way around
[01:21:00] nuongu1: But if I do that, then the script will also be responsible for changing channels too, right?
[01:21:00] fatmatt: not sure
[01:26:00] nuongu1: So, I turn on audio by firing up aumix, and selecting Line2 as record and then Video as record
[01:27:00] nuongu1: See, I don't know what the deal is, but aumix -I -d /dev/mixer1 shows three record options: Line 1, Line 2, Video
[01:27:00] hex01A4 (n=hex@h-68-167-251-21.sttnwaho.dynamic.covad.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[01:27:00] nuongu1: And they're radio buttons, so only one can be selected
[01:27:00] fatmatt: what happens when you change chanels?
[01:27:00] hex01A4: im having a problem configuring my mythtv database
[01:27:00] hex01A4: can someone help
[01:27:00] nuongu1: So I select Line 1 or 2, and then Video to hear the audio again
[01:28:00] nuongu1: The audio disappears when I change channels
[01:28:00] nuongu1: hex01A4, what's the prob?
[01:28:00] fatmatt: it changes back to the defaults?
[01:28:00] hex01A4: i selected language EN
[01:28:00] nuongu1: sphery and fatmatt seem to be most knowledgable herer
[01:28:00] hex01A4: and it says it could not connect to the database
[01:28:00] hex01A4: and to configure some stuff
[01:28:00] nuongu1: I don't see a change in the selection
[01:29:00] fatmatt: we're in trouble if you think I know what I'm doing..
[01:29:00] hex01A4: huh?
[01:29:00] nuongu1: hex01A4: you'll have to be more specific...
[01:29:00] hex01A4: thats the problem
[01:29:00] hex01A4: i dont know how to configure that database
[01:30:00] nuongu1: You've run mythtv-setup?
[01:30:00] nuongu1: And then you run mythfilldatabase?
[01:30:00] fatmatt: nuongu1: have you tried the alsactl store command to store the settings you want?
[01:31:00] nuongu1: no
[01:31:00] dougl: what is the menu toggle key in myth gallery?
[01:31:00] hex01A4: you guys got a place where i can paste the results of mythfilldatabase
[01:31:00] nuongu1: aumix has a 'save' option – not the same thing?
[01:31:00] hex01A4: its not that long

[01:31:00] hex01A4: Would you like to configure the database connection now? [yes]
[01:31:00] nuongu1: dougl: on my system the keys file is in /usr/share/doc/mythtv-0.18.1/keys.txt
[01:32:00] nuongu1: hex01A4, did you go through the setup completely? To me it looks like you either did not do the necessary database setup or that you got error messages when you did it...
[01:33:00] fatmatt: hex01A4: is mysql running?
[01:33:00] hex01A4: how do i check
[01:33:00] fatmatt: do a "ps aux" and look for something thats got mysql in it?
[01:33:00] dougl: nuongu1: thanks
[01:34:00] hex01A4: it doesnt
[01:34:00] fatmatt: did you install mysql?
[01:34:00] fatmatt: what distribution of linux are you running?
[01:34:00] hex01A4: yes
[01:35:00] hex01A4: ubuntu.
[01:35:00] hex01A4: at least i think i installed it
[01:36:00] nuongu1: hex01A4: what happened when you did this: http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html#toc6.2 ?
[01:36:00] fatmatt: you'll have init scripts in /etc/init or somthing like that, on debian its "/etc/init.d/mysql start" to start mysql
[01:37:00] ** fatmatt thinks about doing some work today **
[01:38:00] hex01A4: did what?
[01:38:00] hex01A4: im confused :(

[01:39:00] nuongu1: hex01A4: did you at any point follow those instructions? That is, did you type anything like `mysql -u root < mc.sql ` ??
[01:39:00] hex01A4: no
[01:39:00] hex01A4: this is what i did
[01:39:00] hex01A4: sudo apt-get install mythtv
[01:39:00] hex01A4: installed all the packages
[01:39:00] hex01A4: and dependencies
[01:40:00] hex01A4: then i did sudo apt-get install mysql-client
[01:40:00] hex01A4: and sudo apt-get install mysql-client-4.1
[01:41:00] nuongu1: I don't know why you need both mysql-client and mysql-client-4.1 — but whatever — is there a server component to that?
[01:41:00] hex01A4: im just trying to run this as a frontend and backend
[01:41:00] hex01A4: i just want to play around with it
[01:41:00] nuongu1: sure
[01:41:00] hex01A4: huh?
[01:42:00] nuongu1: You still have to install a complete mysql package
[01:43:00] nuongu1: When I type 'rpm -qa | grep -i mysql' — I get a report of a whole bunch of MySQL packages, one of which is a server, one is a client
[01:43:00] nuongu1: Does apt let you something similar?
[01:43:00] fatmatt: apt-cache search mysql
[01:44:00] sphery: hex01A4: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/old-client.html
[01:45:00] fatmatt: the mysql server should be one of the mythtv dependencies, so he would have installed it with that
[01:45:00] sphery: hex01A4: also, once you fix that http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-6.html#ss6.2
[01:45:00] sphery: specifically the bottom part with the grant all on mythconverg.* ...
[01:45:00] sphery: And, nuongu1, no. I'm not one of the Myth devs...
[01:46:00] sphery: But thanks for the compliment.  :)
[01:46:00] hex01A4: i tried apt-cahce search mysql
[01:46:00] hex01A4: a lot of stuff scrolls
[01:47:00] nuongu1: and invoking ps aufx shows you that there's a mysql daemon running?
[01:49:00] hex01A4: no
[01:49:00] sphery: dougl: Menu toggle key in MythGallery is the same Menu key used by the rest of Myth (defaults to "M")
[01:51:00] hex01A4: help me :(
[01:51:00] simon_c: Ahhhhhh. Everytime I add the channels, they seem to be added with the frequency as 1, not the frequency the channel is on. How can I scan for channels ?

[01:55:00] nuongu1: I would try /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld start
[01:55:00] nuongu1: I run fedora and I would type something like: service mysqld start
[01:55:00] dougl: sphery: thanks
[01:55:00] nuongu1: hex01A4: You'll also have to enable mysqld to start when you restart your machine...

[02:23:00] jnc: sphery: uhh... okay it seems to work alright on fast hardware. new problem though, the channels are off-by-one
[02:23:00] jnc: ATI TV Wonder VE card
[02:23:00] jnc: i've tried a hundred different parameters to bttv, and no luck yet
[02:23:00] jnc: the closest i get is it works for 2 channels (5 and 6) only, the rest are not even tuning
[02:23:00] sphery: jnc: Meaning that you tune to channel 4 but you see channel 3 or something like that
[02:24:00] jnc: sphery: correct
[02:24:00] jnc: exactly correct
[02:24:00] sphery: But only 5 & 6

[02:25:00] Tanthrix: Not quite sure what to make of this problem.
[02:25:00] jnc: i have found three possible configurations: A) nothing tunes B) everything tunes but when bttv is tuned to channel 4 i see channel 3. C) channels 5 and 6 tune correctly, nothing else
[02:25:00] sphery: Tanthrix: do you have a directory /usr/include/GL/
[02:25:00] Tanthrix: yes
[02:25:00] jnc: of the three configurations, only setup possibility B is workable AFAIK
[02:25:00] jnc: but then all my channels are off by one
