[00:01:00] xris: Igg-man: figured it would.
[00:02:00] Igg-man: xris: can the mythtv backend be configrued to transcode from .nuv to .mpeg4 or something?
[00:02:00] SpaceBass is now known as SpaceBass|away
[00:03:00] SlicerDicer-: hi xris
[00:04:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, I killed every last damn slug in my yard
[00:04:00] SlicerDicer-: it looked like wankoff land though with all the slime from the dead slugs lol
[00:04:00] Igg-man (~chatzilla@12-214-203-140.client.mchsi.com) Quit ("later")

[00:07:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: that's rather sick.
[00:07:00] xris: iggy: what kind of capture card do you have?
[00:07:00] xris: wait, and then he left.
[00:07:00] xris: iggy: sorry, wrong tab-complete.
[00:07:00] iggy: xris: 2x150mce 1x350 2xsaa7135
[00:08:00] iggy: fine
[00:08:00] xris: meant igg-man, but he left.
[00:08:00] iggy: I didn't want to talk to you anyways
[00:08:00] xris: lol
[00:08:00] xris: well, at least you have good taste in cards.  ;)
[00:10:00] xris: soo many commercials to cut out.
[00:10:00] Beirdo: hehehe

[00:10:00] Beirdo: don't get me started...
[00:10:00] iggy: what? commercials or my choice of cards?
[00:10:00] Beirdo: on commercials
[00:11:00] iggy: yeah, they suck
[00:11:00] Beirdo: I have 84 programs on my machine
[00:11:00] Beirdo: heh, damn
[00:11:00] xris: iggy: separate train of thought.
[00:11:00] Beirdo: 23 Andromeda!?!
[00:11:00] Beirdo: WTF
[00:11:00] xris: like this one: being married to a pastry chef rocks.
[00:11:00] Beirdo: they must have played every episode back to back
[00:11:00] iggy: 107 programs, using 402 GB (91 hrs) out of 569 GB.
[00:11:00] Beirdo: yeah, but do you watch TV much lately?
[00:12:00] Beirdo: I sure don't
[00:12:00] iggy: not much at all, mostly because I'm too lazy to setup my other computer, so I'm always using the mythtv box/server as my main workstation
[00:13:00] smoke_: my mythgallery is having issues with the preview image.. am i missing something?
[00:13:00] Beirdo: time to mass delete some Andromeda
[00:13:00] Beirdo: screw it
[00:13:00] Kronuz (~kronuz@201.129.132.81) has joined #MythTV-users
[00:13:00] Kronuz: hello
[00:14:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, yeah but my flowers are living now due to now slugs
[00:14:00] SlicerDicer-: it was nasty cleaning my yard up
[00:14:00] SlicerDicer-: but that stuff you told me about worked great
[00:14:00] Kronuz: hey, whi has had experience setting up a PVR350 to work with the TV tuner? ('cause I can only make it work for S-Video/Composite inputs, my tuner is always showing non-tuned noise)
[00:14:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: slugs will come back, but that Worry Free stuff works great to prevent it.
[00:15:00] xris: sprinkle a little around every couple of weeks.
[00:15:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, yeah I got to apply it like once every 4 weeks
[00:15:00] xris: haven't had a problem since I did that.
[00:15:00] SlicerDicer-: they were killing my flowers and I put down nearly 200$ worth of flowers I was pissed
[00:15:00] Kronuz: is there a way you know I can test the tuner input directly from ivtv?
[00:15:00] SlicerDicer-: Kronuz, you more than likely dont have the imput set right
[00:15:00] SlicerDicer-: or did you set the imput?
[00:16:00] Kronuz: SlicerDicer: using myth-setup, I set it to channel 3
[00:16:00] Kronuz: (as from where the signal is comming from my decoder box)
[00:16:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: that sucks.. worst I lost was a few pepper plants and herbs.
[00:16:00] Beirdo: there.
[00:16:00] Beirdo: 61 programs now
[00:16:00] SlicerDicer-: well you would more than likely want to put svideo with that Kronuz
[00:16:00] SlicerDicer-: then get a rs232 and control the cablebox that way
[00:16:00] SlicerDicer-: its really simple if you have comcast
[00:17:00] poonj: do you guys have amplifiers for your cable input before splitting them for multiple tv tuners?
[00:18:00] Beirdo: yep
[00:18:00] poonj: did you buy a high end one beirdo?
[00:18:00] Beirdo: nope
[00:18:00] ** xris is happily rid of cable.  ;) **
[00:18:00] Beirdo: heheeh, I have a south park... douche and turd
[00:18:00] Beirdo: where they were bashing Bush and Kerry (indirectly)
[00:19:00] Beirdo: hehe
[00:19:00] Beirdo: oh, xris...
[00:19:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, why?
[00:19:00] mishehu: Beirdo: Vote or die, bitch!
[00:19:00] Beirdo: watched the Daily Show with Howard Dean on it. the Democrats really fucked up
[00:19:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, the comcast digital cable rocks with mythv
[00:19:00] Kronuz: SlicerDicer: that's how I had it, but for some reason I'm having two problems on that scenario: first the PVR350 is giving me a shadow, and second... I'm getting too much noise on the audio... a constant buzzing, bee-like sound
[00:19:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: and costs twice as much as my Dish setup.
[00:19:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, ahh I cant have a dish here
[00:20:00] smoke_: is anyone having issues with mythgallery and it not displaying the preview images?
[00:20:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, and cable is cheaper for me than dish for some reason...
[00:20:00] Kronuz: SlicerDicer: I was hoping using the tuner would fix at least the noise in the audio, 'cause if I disconnect the RCA cables, the noise is gone
[00:21:00] Beirdo: sounds like ground loop issues
[00:21:00] SlicerDicer-: I would bet the noise is caused by something else but I dont know for sure
[00:21:00] Kronuz: Beirdo: ground loop?
[00:21:00] Beirdo: *ground loop*
[00:21:00] Beirdo: yes
[00:21:00] Beirdo: is your PVR machine grounded to the same plug as the cable box?
[00:22:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: then you're lucky. I pay a little under $50 for 180 Dish channels. analog cable here is $50–52 after taxes, digital is $70+ after tax for the basic setup.
[00:22:00] Kronuz: I thought it has something to do with bad grounding, but I tried to fixed it...
[00:22:00] Kronuz: hmm... Beirdo: yes
[00:22:00] Beirdo: hmm, that's the usual cause.
[00:22:00] Beirdo: not sure then
[00:23:00] Kronuz: Beirdo: they both should have a common ground, right?
[00:23:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, I have every channel so its not any cheaper
[00:23:00] Beirdo: yes
[00:23:00] Kronuz: (is that's what usually fixes the issue?)
[00:23:00] SlicerDicer-: the premium and what not xris all that
[00:23:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: ahh, yeah, I don't do premium stuff, so didn't bother to compare at that point.
[00:23:00] Kronuz: but, mine have the same ground... it's really weird :(
[00:24:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, its the same cost really with premium cable or sat
[00:24:00] Kronuz: I almost could bet the shadow on the video is part of the same problem
[00:25:00] Kronuz: Beirdo: did you mean the phisical ground, right?
[00:25:00] xris: SlicerDicer-: could be.
[00:25:00] Beirdo: yes
[00:26:00] Kronuz: Beirdo: yeah, then they both are :(
[00:26:00] SlicerDicer-: xris, I also have 4 cableboxes hehe
[00:26:00] Kronuz: for the tuner you don't need some extra module, that I might be missing loading?
[00:26:00] Beirdo: so you have other cables you can try?
[00:26:00] Beirdo: might just be crappy grounds in the cables
[00:26:00] Kronuz: Beirdo: I have tried different cables :(
[00:27:00] Kronuz: there's always something really weird about these noises...
[00:27:00] Kronuz: some times they're there, some times they aren't
[00:28:00] Kronuz: for instance when I was testing the computer out of the case (a few weeks back) it didn't seem to have that noise (the shadow on the video was there tho')
[00:29:00] smoke_: what do i press to start ripping the dvd in dvd import?
[00:29:00] Kronuz: (and the shadow is only there on the capture, not on the output to the TV, nor on the signal out of my decoder)
[00:29:00] xris: gotta love this: nuvexport --require_cutlist --mode=xvid --title . --confirm
[00:30:00] xris: ok, off to do family stuff... later.

[00:32:00] iggy: if you get static from /dev/videoN
[00:32:00] smoke_: there is no button to start the ripping in mythdvd import... am i that retarded?
[00:32:00] Mersault: so, what should I do if I've found a bug in mythgame? I can make it seg fault by feeding it a rom with a filename containing invalid unicode
[00:32:00] iggy: file a bug
[00:33:00] Kronuz: iggy: just that? 'cause I'm getting the static fine... I have only one singla comming through channel 3 (but all I can see is static)

[16:37:00] Tommck_: it's just a gut feeling
[16:37:00] AlHaz: for DVB all it has to do is copy the stream to disk
[16:37:00] AlHaz: transcoding in the background to save disk space would be time consuming but it'd get there eventually
[16:38:00] Tommck_: roam – how many cards?
[16:39:00] AlHaz: the maximum symbol rate of a dvb-t stream is pretty negligible in the grand scheme of pci
[16:39:00] AlHaz: what you'd have to look out for is the fact that the onboard ide is probably limtied to udma-2 and slower than snot
[16:39:00] roam: Tommck_: One for now, maybe two in the future, but not more.

[16:43:00] Tommck_: I don't think I would want it trying to run an email server, file sharing and a database with that
[16:44:00] roam: It's not doing filesharing.
[16:44:00] Tommck_: ok... sorry... but add web server to the list
[16:44:00] roam: and it just servers imap mailboxes internally.
[16:44:00] Tommck_: AlHaz – you still think it'll work running multipler servers?
[16:44:00] roam: Tommck_: but very rarely.
[16:45:00] Tommck_: well, make your own choice
[16:45:00] AlHaz: roam: Yeah. My experience is DVB-S and ATSC, but the normal method is to tune a transponder and then play specific pids from it. No reason you can't get the whole transponder
[16:45:00] AlHaz: in DVB-S at least, the transponder is an mpeg transport stream containing several program streams
[16:46:00] AlHaz: they vary up to about 22 megabit
[16:46:00] AlHaz: when you play a particular live stream, you're demuxing out the one program you want
[16:47:00] AlHaz: if you were to cat /dev/dvb/whatever it is to a file, that should theoretically be the whole transport stream
[16:48:00] AlHaz: Tommck_: Depends how *much it's doing
[16:48:00] AlHaz: Tommck_: But the dvb data transfer is going to be a busmaster memory copy with less significance than an ethernet card
[16:49:00] AlHaz: demuxing isn't all that hard
[16:49:00] AlHaz: but this presupposes that you're saving the mpeg streams as they arrive and not re-encoding them
[16:49:00] AlHaz: it's the encoding processes that kill you in myth
[16:50:00] roam: AlHaz: Copy that, but does the HW / Card do the demultiplexing?
[16:51:00] AlHaz: roam: Well, like i said, my experience is mostly DVB-S. If your DVB-T card is analagous to a 'budget' card — technotrend or b2c2 stuff — it's going to leave that up to software, but it's no big deal
[16:52:00] AlHaz: in dvb-S, cards like the Hauppaugge Nexus-S can demux and even decode in hardware, i dunno that the api uses it
[16:52:00] roam: So the budget card is 'superiour' in this case.
[16:52:00] AlHaz: yeah, the Nexus-S does screw with the stream a little
[16:52:00] roam: AlHaz: I use a Nova-T
[16:52:00] Spida_ is now known as Spida
[16:52:00] AlHaz: but since nobody broadcasts DVB-T in north america, i've never even seen a DVB-T card
[16:54:00] AlHaz: roam: so that's a budget design – it'll be fine, good even, you're doing all the decoding on other machines
[16:54:00] AlHaz: Anyway, I need to go to work
[16:54:00] roam: So I need around 8MBit of I/O (for one channel) and 16 MBit if I stream it live.
[16:54:00] roam: AlHaz: Thanks for the Info and have a nice day.

[20:32:00] epoch: i.e. Windows XP MCE
[20:32:00] Beirdo: ewww
[20:32:00] rw: epoch, yeah, it's weird because in the wiki it's listed pvr250MCE and not pvr250.
[20:33:00] rw: both work with mythtv?
[20:40:00] Chutt: hauppauge's website has all that info

[20:42:00] rw: we're listing hardware encoded boards to test all of them, but pvr-150 is looking a good choice since it is almost the same hardware as 250...
[20:43:00] Chutt: it's completely different hardware :p
[20:43:00] Atamido: I here the 250 has better visual quality, but I wouldn't know and am not the one to ask.
[20:43:00] Chutt: support's not so good as the 250
[20:44:00] rw: Chutt, I read only two chips is the diference
[20:44:00] KarlosII: does mythtv have ati all in wonder support yet?
[20:44:00] Chutt: rw, out of 3 :p
[20:44:00] Chutt: and the tuners are different
[20:45:00] rw: "The PVR-150 uses the same Conexant MPEG2 encoding chip we all know and love. The difference here is that they replaced two chips (one from Philips that was the video A/DC and one from Micronas that was audio A/DC) with one integrated audio and video A/D convertor chip from Conexant. So essentially the PVR-150 design is cheaper and easier to produce, as it only has two chips and both are from the same vendor. As an added b
[20:45:00] rw: enefit the new CX chip has dual 10-bit analog to digital convertors, whereas the Philips chip had a single 9-bit A/DC, so things have the potential to actually be a little better looking." -> http://www.meedio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=132929

[20:47:00] Atamido: >_>
[20:47:00] Atamido: ATI doesn't put any effort into supporting Linux.
[20:47:00] Beirdo: Atamido: gatos kinda supports it
[20:47:00] rw: Chutt, each one do you use?
[20:47:00] Atamido: Well, very little.
[20:48:00] KarlosII: hmm what about the wintv 500MCE?
[20:49:00] Chutt: i've got a 250, 350, and a 500
[20:49:00] Chutt: haven't set the 500 up yet.
[20:49:00] rw: KarlosII, i think it has 2 tuners and stuff
[20:50:00] rw: bah, the diference from pvr-150 to pvr-250 isn't that big. It's worth it buying 250.
[20:50:00] KarlosII: chutt i wish to knwo if the 500 can be gooten working linux
[20:50:00] Chutt: err, read the lists

[20:51:00] Chutt: KarlosII, why don't you go to hauppauge's website and look? they've got everything there.
[20:52:00] rw: KarlosII, there is some info in the wiki: http://www.mythtv.info/moin.cgi/HardWare_2fVideoCaptureCards
[20:52:00] rw: KarlosII, basically 350 encode & decode, 250 encode, 150 encode with cheaper hardware
[20:52:00] KarlosII: chutt I am looking....... but the page doesn't make too much sense as I'm seeing very little diff
[20:52:00] KarlosII: http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/compare_pvr.html
[20:52:00] Chutt: it's crazy how the maker of the cards actually has information on the differences between them

[20:53:00] rw: haha
[20:54:00] Beirdo: hehe :)
[20:54:00] rw: the diference from PVR150, PVR250 and PVR350 is that the first begins with 1, the middle one with 2 and the latest with 3!
