[00:00:00] peecee: lo all
[00:00:00] JonK: hi hi!
[00:00:00] peecee: mythfilldatabase is erroring out with "unknown socket"
[00:01:00] peecee: new install using jarod's guide and atrpms (FC3)
[00:01:00] Beirdo: GeckoFiend: hehe. good for planning the rampage to kill off "reformed" pedophiles...
[00:01:00] LostSole (~drain@dsl081-059-028.sfo1.dsl.speakeasy.net) Quit ("leaving")
[00:01:00] peecee: I'm at .18.1 if that makes a difference
[00:01:00] rjune (~rjune@12-215-150-141.client.mchsi.com) Quit (Client Quit)
[00:02:00] peecee: I have a valid zap2it accound and I'm able to log in to it from my myth backend
[00:02:00] peecee: mythbackend is running when I run mythfilldatabase....
[00:04:00] Renfield (~Renfield@dialup-4.233.200.176.Dial1.Manchester1.Level3.net) Quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[00:05:00] Jurian_Knight: my backend is randomly crashing after running for 24+ hours, the log is not telling me shit...
[00:05:00] akaias: trying to get myth working with a pvr500. my friend has been helping (he has the sme setup) but is out of town now. In a nutshell when i try to capture (cat /dev/video > test.mpg) I just get black. All the proper modules are loaded but I get nothing from the card. Any ideas or is this beyond a simple config mistake?
[00:05:00] peecee: have you tried cat /dev/video0 ?
[00:06:00] akaias: peecee: video0 and video1 all provide the same results
[00:06:00] Jurian_Knight: you getting any audio at all?
[00:06:00] JonK: is the file of any size?
[00:06:00] JonK: test.mpg/
[00:06:00] JonK: ?
[00:07:00] akaias: Jonk. yeah, that's the odd part. I get absolutely no video or sound, and the file size does grow before I ctrl-c the cat
[00:07:00] peecee: what does lspci -v say?
[00:07:00] akaias: the file size is as large as if it did have audio/video
[00:07:00] JonK: sounds like the ivtv moduel is not loading correctly
[00:07:00] JonK: post your dmesg
[00:08:00] JonK: to pastebin
[00:08:00] peecee: have you tried depmod -a then modprobe ivtv ?
[00:10:00] akaias: dmesg and lscpi-v http://pb.transnull.com/20
[00:11:00] akaias: peecee, haven't done a depmod but when i modprobe ivtv, all the required modules do load
[00:12:00] eelriverlt (~murph@adsl-68-122-118-233.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) Quit ()
[00:12:00] JonK: in your dmesg at line 370: "firmware read failed"
[00:12:00] peecee: I think I see the problem...
[00:12:00] peecee: but I'll let JonK answer ;-)
[00:12:00] Roots^ (Mani@host-84-9-196-147.bulldogdsl.com) Quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[00:12:00] JonK: you see the same thing?
[00:13:00] peecee: yeah, that and the lspci shows unknown device
[00:13:00] JonK: well, since the firmware isn't loading the lspci should show the unknown device shouldnt i"?
[00:13:00] peecee: I don;t know much about the pvr500, but maybe adjusting the tuner value?
[00:13:00] JonK: no, did you run the ivtvfwextract.pl script?
[00:13:00] peecee: yeah, stands to reason one follows the other
[00:14:00] JonK: the tuner type is being correctly detected
[00:14:00] akaias: i see it. but i just tried the newest ivtv drivers. the changelog did say somehting about gfirmware drivers. i was using 0.3.6e earlier today. i really don't know what to do at all at this point.
[00:14:00] JonK: check /lib/modules for ivtv-sw-dec.bin and ivtv-gw-enc.bin
[00:14:00] JonK: this is not a driver issue
[00:14:00] JonK: calm down
[00:14:00] peecee: lol
[00:15:00] JonK: you need the firmware
[00:15:00] akaias: haha, just getting annoyed
[00:15:00] peecee: you're a hair away from getting this working...
[00:15:00] JonK: I'd hate to have to talk anyone in off the ledge
[00:15:00] peecee: listen to me...I've probably set 20 of these things up, and every time I run into a different problem
[00:15:00] JonK: have you ran into a pvr500 wiht one tuner installing and the second one not installing?
[00:16:00] akaias: JonK, i have not.
[00:16:00] JonK: 'cause i'm having that problem

[00:16:00] akaias: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 262144 Jun 8 17:48 ivtv-fw-enc.bin
[00:16:00] peecee: odd
[00:16:00] JonK: where did you get these files?
[00:17:00] Renfield (~Renfield@dialup-4.233.200.8.Dial1.Manchester1.Level3.net) has joined #mythtv-users
[00:17:00] JonK: and where did you get the HcwMAdoA.ROM file?
[00:17:00] akaias: honestly. i don't know. I just use a script that my friend wrote when he got his myth box working. I download the ivtv drivers, then run it. it builds the modules and downloads something. I can post that to a pb if you want.
[00:18:00] JonK: do you know where teh aliases are being set?
[00:18:00] akaias: /etc/modules/d/ivtv
[00:18:00] JonK: post that file too
[00:18:00] Renfield: Hello.
[00:19:00] peecee: hello Red
[00:19:00] peecee: Ren
[00:19:00] peecee: dang, messed that one up...
[00:19:00] Renfield: Does anyone know if there is a hardware database listing all of the components that unichrome can make use of?
[00:20:00] peecee: have you tried http://unichrome.sourceforge.net/ ?
[00:20:00] Renfield: Yea.
[00:20:00] Renfield: I didn't see one.
[00:20:00] peecee: I know, obvious...but you never know...

[00:22:00] akaias: JonK, here is the install_driver script. http://pastebin.com/297420
[00:23:00] peecee: yeah
[00:23:00] JonK: ivtv aliases
[00:23:00] peecee: plus, there's a bonus interview there of Ms. X
[00:23:00] akaias: http://pastebin.com/297423
[00:23:00] akaias: all of a sudden my pastebin stopped working.
[00:24:00] JonK: i don't think you need line 4
[00:25:00] JonK: but nothing appears way out of wack
[00:26:00] akaias: or should line 4 have bttv cnahed to ivtv?
[00:26:00] JonK: no
[00:26:00] peecee: definitely not
[00:26:00] peecee: do you have a bttv card in that machine?
[00:26:00] akaias: ok. i just put what my friend told me to put in here. i have no idea what any of the options are.
[00:27:00] peecee: do you only have a pvr500?
[00:27:00] akaias: yeah, thats the only card
[00:27:00] peecee: then I'd take out 4 & 5
[00:27:00] peecee: then again, they shouldn't harm anything
[00:27:00] JonK: I think he needs the no_black_magic_=1 option
[00:28:00] peecee: is that for the 500?
[00:28:00] JonK: y
[00:28:00] JonK: try replacing with
[00:28:00] peecee: ah
[00:28:00] peecee: my ignorance shows through
[00:28:00] JonK: options cx25840 i2c_enable 1,1 no_black_magic=1
[00:28:00] JonK: when you do, power off the system for a few minutes
[00:28:00] JonK: the pvr500 seems to hold onto register values pretty long
[00:29:00] JonK: (so i've been told)
[00:29:00] peecee: I've heard the same thing...
[00:29:00] splat1 is now known as splAt1
[00:30:00] peecee: so, has anyone heard of an unknown socket error when running mythfilldatabase?
[00:30:00] JonK: i wish i could get my 500 working, im about ready to give up, sell it and buy two pvr-250's
[00:30:00] splAt1 is now known as splat1
[00:30:00] akaias: Jonk. thanks. I'll try that.
[00:30:00] peecee: have you mailed the mythtv users list?
[00:31:00] JonK: not yet
[00:31:00] peecee: cause I'm doing that right now about my stipud problem
[00:31:00] JonK: actually i think i did
[00:31:00] peecee: stupid...
[00:31:00] JonK: pvr-350 and pvr500 won't seem to play nice
[00:31:00] peecee: not you...doing a slight respell...
[00:31:00] JonK: no, yes me
[00:32:00] peecee: How has the 350 been?
[00:32:00] peecee: lol
[00:32:00] JonK: had that first
[00:32:00] JonK: thought I'd start with it
[00:32:00] JonK: quite like it
[00:33:00] JonK: then wanted to add tuners and the posts seemed to indicate that the drivers were getting decent, so bought a 500 (accidently bought 2!)
[00:33:00] JonK: stupid web shopping carts
[00:33:00] peecee: send one back?
[00:33:00] JonK: no i still have it
[00:33:00] peecee: lol
[00:34:00] peecee: four tuners...that would be cool
[00:34:00] JonK: i could send it back, but that would require effort
[00:34:00] JonK: I'm not sure I have the ATP
[00:34:00] JonK: plan is 1 350 1 500 and 1 pcHD3000
[00:34:00] peecee: 500 is nice, it did sound like the drivers were pretty stable
[00:35:00] JonK: i have no problem wiht just getting a 250's
[00:35:00] JonK: i could always put the second 500 in a front end
[00:35:00] JonK: or build a mythbox as a gift for a friend
[00:35:00] peecee: that was my thought – 500 is nice, but not quite mature enough
[00:35:00] peecee: lol

[05:14:00] Kronuz: it looks like it's needed
[05:14:00] rpete: which one do you have xris?
[05:14:00] xris: dishnetwork
[05:14:00] Kronuz: but I remember reading somewhere it was optional
[05:14:00] xris: purely because it's cheaper
[05:14:00] CyberKnet: Kronuz: try to build without it. if it doesn't work, get it =)
[05:14:00] Kronuz: :P
[05:14:00] rpete: hdtv or standard xris?
[05:14:00] Kronuz: okay
[05:14:00] xris: standard
[05:15:00] rpete: happy with image quality and sound?
[05:15:00] xris: totally
[05:15:00] xris: I'm not exactly an audiophile, though
[05:15:00] rpete: they have a nice dvr they're offering with dual tuners
[05:15:00] rpete: I might have to go with that
[05:15:00] riksta: Kronuz: how can it be optional, when it's needed for guide data
[05:16:00] xris: rpete: if you do, let me know — they give credits for recommendations
[05:16:00] CyberKnet: riksta: I don't use xmltv for the guide data. I use DataDirect.
[05:16:00] xris: (unless you already know someone who has it)
[05:16:00] rpete: xris, it's a pretty sure thing, what do you need me to do?
[05:16:00] riksta: ahh yeah good point, i always forget about that, being a UK citizen :)
[05:16:00] CyberKnet: riksta: heh =)
[05:16:00] xris: rpete: honestly, I don't know. lemme call and ask
[05:16:00] riksta: a crazy UK citizen up at 5:16am
[05:17:00] CyberKnet: riksta: crazy indeed. =) You got any 150s or 500s?
[05:17:00] riksta: naw man i'm a dvb dude
[05:17:00] rpete: xris, I was going to pay the activation fee at costco since it's $20 cheaper, don't know if it matters to you or not
[05:17:00] CyberKnet: aah yes, crazy UK citizen =)
[05:17:00] riksta: and i have a dodgy old bt848 ati wonder ve
[05:17:00] xris: there shouldn't be an activation fee

[05:18:00] mchou: CyberKnet: haha, how quickly do you change your mind?
[05:18:00] CyberKnet: 500 = 2x150 in one card
[05:18:00] riksta: kool
[05:18:00] riksta: why aint it 300 ;)
[05:19:00] CyberKnet: mchou: I never decided if I wanted a 500 or 300..
[05:19:00] CyberKnet: mchou: and I went to watch a simpsons ep today and it was all fucked up and pixelated.
[05:19:00] Alien88: so uhm.. when something is recording and i go to watch livetv.. mythfrotnend locks up and just displays black.. and this is in my logs (it repeats over and over.. so i only pasted some of it in): http://pastebin.com/297534
[05:19:00] rpete: xris, I don't know what they're calling the fee, but it's $50 and then you get a $50 credit on your first bill, at costco its $30 and you still get the $50 credit
[05:19:00] CyberKnet: mchou: and so now, I am working up the WAF on getting some new tuner cards.
[05:19:00] riksta: Alien88: 0.18.1 ? i get that too

[06:22:00] Kronuz: but I was wondering if it would be okay to have it along other files, like videos, pictures, mp3, etc
[06:22:00] Agrajag-: you should consider doing lvm

[06:24:00] anankee is now known as ananke
[06:25:00] Kronuz: by the way, if I build MythTV, and later I update the sources and rebuild, how do I get rid of the old stuff, so there are no traces of the old binaries (and probably binaries or stuff that are no longer needed)
[06:26:00] Agrajag-: make sure you don't change the prefix – so keep everything in /usr/local
[06:27:00] Kronuz: oh, okay (I was going to, thanks for telling me)
[06:27:00] Agrajag-: make uninstall should work.. if you want to make sure, check out the /usr/local/*/myth* directories by hand
[06:27:00] Kronuz: so, there's where mythtv keeps all it's stuff (only inside myth* directories)?
[06:27:00] Kronuz: what about the binaries?
[06:28:00] Kronuz: also inside a myth* directory?
[06:28:00] Agrajag-: well yeah /usr/local/bin

[06:29:00] Kronuz: I'm building MySQL right now, and about to build MythTV :)
[06:30:00] Agrajag-: oh ok. well i think there are some tools which watch what a 'make install' installs and keeps track of it. never used them myself though
[06:30:00] Agrajag-: that... would be a pain in the arse :P
[06:30:00] Kronuz: what? what would be?
[06:30:00] Agrajag-: lfs
[06:30:00] Kronuz: not really
[06:30:00] Kronuz: and you end up with a really clean linux
[06:30:00] Agrajag-: well not everything provides a 'make uninstall'
[06:31:00] Agrajag-: no you don't!
[06:31:00] Kronuz: :P
[06:31:00] Agrajag-: you'll run into dependancy problems and you wont know what versions of things are installed
[06:31:00] Kronuz: I already have, but you can always fix them
[06:32:00] Kronuz: and you end up knowing exactly what versions of *everything* are installed
[06:32:00] Agrajag-: perhaps, if there's a 'make uninstall'
[06:33:00] Agrajag-: but otherwise you'll be removing stuff by hand :)
[06:33:00] Kronuz: yeah, I'm afraid so :P
[06:33:00] Agrajag-: and what happens when you upgrade your compiler and upgrade some basic lib
[06:33:00] Agrajag-: you'll have to go recompile everything!

[07:27:00] Bachus9000: Maybe, but then that leaves me with the problem I had in the first place--the only package I'm finding for mythgame is for 0.17 and that isn't working with mythtv 0.18.
[07:27:00] Bachus9000: Yes, I did.
[07:27:00] Agrajag-: of course 0.17 of the plugin isn't going to work with 0.18 of mythtv
[07:28:00] Agrajag-: why don't you just compile myth and myth-plugins from source
[07:28:00] Bachus9000: I did 'make uninstall' then 'make clean' then ./configure then 'qmake mythplugins.pro' then make then 'make install'
[07:29:00] Bachus9000: I could do that, but compiling just the plugin seemed like the best/most direct method of solving my problem. :)

[14:41:00] Kronuz: hey, what font should I have installed for mythtv? Arial?

[14:42:00] Kronuz: 'cause this morning I was trying and all I could see were little squares

[14:42:00] GreyFoxx: brejc8: And my laptop is a mass of vmware sessions for many different things,. It's trivial to take a snapsop of one and customizing it to the task at hand :)
[14:42:00] Kronuz: (later I found the directory where the fonts were supposed to go, was empty, so I copied my window's arial font there and it sort of worked)
[14:43:00] Kronuz: ... but the font size is too small in the TV

[15:31:00] brejc8: no. Its fine with software decoding
[15:31:00] f00bar: I just have a normal tv card and loads of cpu is being used just encoding the video to show it instantly
[15:31:00] brejc8: Thats because you dont have xv turned on
[15:31:00] brejc8: xv = hardware acceleration
[15:31:00] f00bar: well, I need XvMC

[16:46:00] hfb: Araldit: http://lirc.org/images/simple_transmitter.gif this will work.
[16:47:00] hfb: On one end you have the dtr connection and the other that is not listed is the ground.
[16:47:00] bjohnson: tcprobe doesn't show image size and shows no audio on these files
[16:47:00] Araldit: hfb: Yeah, And by placing a normal LED you will see it flash when it should transmit, and it doesn't
[16:47:00] Beirdo: bjohnson: odd
[16:47:00] Beirdo: it should
[16:47:00] hfb: Araldit: I checked the voltage between dtr and ground -10volts.
[16:48:00] GreyFoxx: Kronuz: Just use the config->video menu and pick a resolution which runs as full, not windowed
[16:48:00] hfb: Araldit: Correct. No flash.
[16:48:00] Beirdo: hfb: make sure you put the LED in the right way around
[16:48:00] hfb: Beirdo: I tried reversing it too.
[16:49:00] Kronuz: GreyFoxx: okay, but how?
[16:49:00] Araldit: hfb: If you measure -10 V, then you got a problem, couse the ur diode 1n4148 will be open, and no current will flow to the diode
[16:49:00] Kronuz: config->video inside zsnes?
[16:49:00] GreyFoxx: But how what ?
[16:49:00] GreyFoxx: Well duh
[16:49:00] GreyFoxx: of course
[16:49:00] Kronuz: how do you open the config menu?
[16:49:00] Beirdo: Araldit: DTR -> Ground will always be negative when DTR is on
[16:49:00] GreyFoxx: Have you actually taken anytime on your own to look at the menus available in there?
[16:49:00] GreyFoxx: I use a mouse, but I'm sure a keyboard can be used
[16:50:00] Kronuz: under mythgame I thin the gui is being disabled
[16:50:00] Kronuz: think*
[16:50:00] GreyFoxx: Ahhh
[16:50:00] Kronuz: I've configured zsnes to full screen out of mythgame
[16:50:00] GreyFoxx: Then run it manually, configure it, and your done
[16:50:00] Beirdo: DTR asserted is negative, DTR turned off is positive (if I remember my RS232 correctly)
[16:50:00] Kronuz: hmm let me try :)
[16:50:00] hfb: Araldit and Beirdo, the other ir transmitter I build was this. http://lirc.org/images/improved_transmitter.gif
[16:51:00] hfb: Beirdo: That is what I understood too.
[16:52:00] Araldit: hfb: How big is the resistor? Just figure, that if it is around 1k, then you could place the DTR to positiv 12V and the other end to ground, Just to see if ur LED is burned or wrong placed..
[16:52:00] Beirdo: that too
[16:52:00] bjohnson: here's another question: I've been using avidemux2 to make some vcds and it works for my player. However I have one file it won't process because it says the frame rate is too low (15 fps). Is there another easy way to convert this avi to vcd mpg?
[16:53:00] Kronuz: :S
[16:53:00] Beirdo: nuvexport
[16:53:00] Beirdo: :)
[16:53:00] Beirdo: or use ffmpeg
[16:53:00] Beirdo: or transcode
[16:53:00] hfb: Araldit: I jumped the led (reversed) directly to dtr and gnd. It lit up fine.
[16:53:00] Beirdo: well, nuvexport is for .nuv, .mpg
[16:53:00] Beirdo: but you can get much of the command line from it
[16:53:00] bjohnson: I tried transcod but 1. it took forever to find the args that looked like it worked and 2. the audio was shifted from the video
[16:53:00] Kronuz: same problem I had the other day using full screen in zsnes I lose the console for it
[16:54:00] Beirdo: or use virtualdub in winblows, with TMPGEnc
[16:55:00] Araldit: hfb: If ur DTR is as Beirdo says -10V when it should transmit, then the diagram is not correct, the diode should be turned 180 degrees.

[16:55:00] GreyFoxx: hrm, wonder how welkl zsnes will work under vmware heh
[16:56:00] Araldit: Beirdo: Ahh Im looking at the first one. There is only 1. 1N4148 http://lirc.org/images/simple_transmitter.gif
[16:56:00] hfb: For testing I will use the simple cercuit. http://lirc.org/images/simple_transmitter.gif
[16:56:00] Beirdo: they may use DTR off to light it up too
[16:56:00] hfb: Ignore the improved for testing. I will work with the simple one.
[16:56:00] Beirdo: either way
[16:56:00] Beirdo: do you have a 9v battery?

[17:07:00] Kronuz: it works perfectly :)
[17:07:00] Kronuz: (almost)
[17:07:00] GreyFoxx: but by cropping do you mean you can't see the edges as they go past the edge of the tv or is it in the middle actually missing parts of the screen ?
[17:08:00] Kronuz: yeah, I can't see the edges
[17:08:00] GreyFoxx: That's not being cropped, it's called overscan. All tv's do it. you just normally don't realized it. in the case here you know where the edge of the image is so you notice it's paste the edge of the screen
[17:08:00] GreyFoxx: I don't think you have overscan controls with the 350, but you can configure myth to run in a smaller space than the full screen(for just menus if you want)
[17:09:00] GreyFoxx: and then line it up to fit exactly
[17:09:00] Kronuz: I see, how is that done?

[17:44:00] hfb: Beirdo: Okay, I decided to switch to another computer, but I was thinking about the 9 volt battery.
[17:44:00] JonK: I don't have a home phone, just a cellphone, so i'd never looked
[17:45:00] Kronuz: mythfilldatabase is for getting the tv schedules into mythtv?
[17:45:00] GreyFoxx: yup
[17:45:00] Kronuz: I see
[17:45:00] Kronuz: once I start getting how mythtv works, I hope I can make some code contributions :)
[17:47:00] Kronuz: I hope I can make some speed improvements, 'cause in my PC it's a bit slow
[17:47:00] GreyFoxx: what kind of pc ?
[17:47:00] Kronuz: athlon 900 with 256 MB ram
[17:48:00] brejc8: Speed in what? playback?
[17:48:00] GreyFoxx: Be aware that the pvr350's framebuffer is quiet slow
[17:48:00] hfb: Beirdo: Vidal's circuit charges the capacitor using the negative volts from dts. The capacitor is used for backup voltage when dts changes to positive. Now I was thinking that I could test vidals circuit by first charging the capacitor by applying dts to negative and gnd to positive to charge the capacitor using the battery. Then just turn the battery around to see if the led comes on. .
[17:48:00] brejc8: 900 is more than enough
[17:48:00] Kronuz: well sort of in everything
[17:48:00] hfb: Beirdo: All that make sence?  :)

[17:50:00] Kronuz: I'll try adding some more
[17:50:00] GreyFoxx: and you might notice speed issues with the 350's framebuffer/screen writes being a little slow. definately slower than a regular video card
[17:50:00] Chutt: a "little" slow is a bit of an understatement :p

[19:44:00] Chutt: possible to migrate that?
[19:44:00] Chutt: yeah, a bunch
[19:44:00] Beirdo: we can look for an importer, I know there are some out
[19:45:00] Beirdo: I imported stuff from sourceforge even
[19:45:00] xris: yeah, trac seems to come with a bugzilla2trac import script
[19:45:00] xris: http://projects.edgewall.com/trac/wiki/TracImport
[19:46:00] j-rod: Chutt, yes! :)
[19:46:00] Chutt: great
[19:47:00] j-rod: I think my weekend is relatively free too
[19:47:00] j-rod: managed to placate my wife by 1) agreeing to drop a chunk to remodel our kitchen (cabinet refacing and new counter tops) and 2) getting a new job
[19:47:00] xris: we could probably do most of the setup early, too...
[19:48:00] Chutt: heh
[19:48:00] xris: definitely need to use the devel version of trac, though. the current release doesn't handle emailing of tickets.
[19:48:00] j-rod: yeah, definitely, could have trac and subversion in place ahead of time
[19:48:00] Beirdo: I should likely catch up on my bugs...
[19:49:00] xris: I also have modified versions of the post-commit scripts for emailing commits, as well as for trac integration (eg. add "closes #123" to the log, and it closes that ticket)
[19:49:00] j-rod: then its just a matter of time running the cvs repos through cvs2svn (provided by the svn guys)
[19:49:00] Beirdo: then cleaning up extra tags, etc you no longer want
[19:49:00] xris: yeah. it's actually a pretty quick thing to set up, plus the cleanup.
[19:50:00] j-rod: Chutt, got a pref on repo access method?
[19:50:00] Chutt: ssh for people with write access
[19:50:00] ** xris votes for https or ssh **
[19:50:00] Chutt: would prefer not the http method
[19:50:00] Chutt: but, not sure how anon works, otherwise
[19:50:00] j-rod: https is easier to set up
[19:50:00] j-rod: piece o cake, actually
[19:51:00] xris: I have my nuvexport stuff set up for anon via https, and write via svn+ssh
[19:51:00] Chutt: i'll have to ask snowman what his preferences are
[19:51:00] xris: it's all fairly easy to set up.
[19:51:00] xris: need to get mod_python set up, though. apparently it gives a HUGE speed increase.
[19:51:00] xris: s/speed/performance/
[19:52:00] Chutt: installing stuff shouldn't be a problem
[19:52:00] xris: yeah. it's the setup that's the problem. then again, I'm trying to do all kinds of funky multi-project stuff in my svn setup and I can't figure out if mod_python is completely compatible with mod_rewrite in this instance.
[19:52:00] Beirdo: hehe
[19:53:00] Beirdo: mod_fuckuptheurl
[19:53:00] xris: so would we be doing something like trac.mythtv.org for trac, and svn.mythtv.org for http svn access?
[19:53:00] j-rod: I've got a working setup that allows anon checkout over http and requires a login to commit
[19:53:00] Chutt: i dunno
[19:53:00] j-rod: <LimitExcept GET PROPFIND OPTIONS REPORT>
[19:53:00] xris: j-rod: mine's similar to that, too.
[19:53:00] Chutt: it'll all be running on the same vserver
[19:53:00] sphing: my backend is complaining about unable to open /dev/dsp, but I don't have a sound card
[19:54:00] Chutt: but there can be separate hostnames, of course
[19:54:00] j-rod: then within that limit, require auth
[19:54:00] xris: Chutt: ok, I see.. so the subdomains just forward to a directory on mythtv.org.. that works.
[19:54:00] Beirdo: j-rod: sounds familiar :)
[19:54:00] xris: so mythtv.org/trac and mythtv.org/svn
[19:54:00] Chutt: xris, no, cvs.mythtv.org is currently a separate vserver than www.mythtv.org
[19:54:00] xris: gotcha. so separate vhosts are ok.
[19:55:00] j-rod: Beirdo, yeah, pretty much right out of the docs, nothing fancy I did myself. :)
[19:55:00] xris: well, then it's up to you/snowman to pick how you want it to be laid out.
[19:55:00] Chutt: like a uml, but much lower impact on the system
[19:55:00] Chutt: http://linux-vserver.org/
[19:55:00] xris: oh, that kind of vserver.
[19:55:00] Kronuz: mythtv.org/svn?
[19:55:00] j-rod: Chutt, you'll want svn and trac within the same vserver
[19:55:00] Kronuz: is mythtv moving to svn?
[19:55:00] Chutt: j-rod, right, i was assuming we'd just use the cvs one
[19:55:00] xris: Kronuz: soon
[19:55:00] Kronuz: cool :)
[19:55:00] j-rod: worksforme
[19:56:00] Kronuz: everybody's moving to svn
[19:56:00] Beirdo: xris: the same kinda vserver I'm running for my trac :)
[19:56:00] j-rod: the same, only different
[19:56:00] j-rod: er, wait
[19:56:00] Chutt: it's nice, we used to have cvs be in a uml at the last colo place
[19:56:00] j-rod: Beirdo, are you using vserver or xen?
[19:56:00] Kronuz: are you using bdb or filesystem for the repository?
[19:56:00] Chutt: really hurt performance, though
[19:57:00] Beirdo: I'm using vservers
[19:57:00] j-rod: Kronuz, haven't got that far yet
[19:57:00] xris: Kronuz: haven't gotten that far, but it'll be fsfs because bdb sucks.
[19:57:00] Beirdo: xen doesn't support AMD64
[19:57:00] j-rod: but I definitely suggest fsfs
[19:57:00] Beirdo: at least didn't when I looked last
[19:57:00] sphing: when I try to have my capture card's Audio device to none, it just resets to /dev/dsp
[19:57:00] j-rod: ah, that's right
[19:58:00] j-rod: and subversion 1.2.x w/the new delta scheme
[19:58:00] sphing: can anyone help me out?
[19:58:00] j-rod: though myth doesn't have that many binary files
[19:58:00] xris: does 1.2 work with 1.1 clients?
[19:58:00] j-rod: (the new delta scheme helps speed w/large directories of images here)
[19:58:00] j-rod: xris, yeah
[19:59:00] xris: ok, that's cool, then.
[19:59:00] xris: since fc3 doesn't have 1.2

[20:02:00] Beirdo: hehe

[20:35:00] kernoman: hehe thats true, i fix one problem and another appears, if only ic ould get my damn tvout to look nice

[20:38:00] JonK: funny that I write for a living....
[20:38:00] dude12412: i have a pvr-150
[20:38:00] JonK: start with ivtv
[20:38:00] dude12412: ok
[20:38:00] JonK: you need to get the driver modules working for the card
[20:38:00] JonK: before you can install mythtv
[20:38:00] kernoman: just follow the guide on knoppmythwiki youll be fine
[20:38:00] dude12412: ok
[20:38:00] JonK: errr... before you can use mythtv
[20:38:00] dude12412: my other question is, is knoppmyth the best or most stable?
[20:39:00] JonK: i would use something other than knoppmyth as a distrobution — take a look at ubuntu
[20:39:00] JonK: great distro for learning
[20:39:00] dude12412: i have mce2005, does it have the problems that most windows computers have?
[20:39:00] JonK: that it runs on a microsoft operating system, no
[20:39:00] JonK: it does not
[20:39:00] kernoman: ubuntu is great but as both ubuntu and knoppmyth are based on debin i dont think it matters which you choose. bear in mind knoppmyth is a distro aimed just at running mythtv
[20:40:00] dude12412: anything that makes myth tv better than mce2005?
[20:40:00] JonK: multiple front end backend?

[20:40:00] JonK: a computer for each one
[20:41:00] JonK: web based access?
[20:41:00] JonK: i like my tv out (mostly) but it's a pvr-350

[20:42:00] dude12412: commercials?
[20:42:00] kernoman: you must go in and out of the tv guide to see whats on?
[20:42:00] JonK: do you mean the on screen guide?
[20:43:00] JonK: while a recording is playing?
[20:43:00] kernoman: what about playing divx etc it dont play the,m well at all, transcoded stuff plays real bad too
[20:43:00] JonK: it does all that
[20:43:00] kernoman: i mean where it lists whats on all the cannels
[20:43:00] JonK: have not tried any divx or transcoded
[20:43:00] JonK: ill try to see if i can create the problem
[20:43:00] kernoman: if you do youll see why i wana get thenvidia working so bad :)
[20:44:00] JonK: dude12412 also — trust me — all the stuff you learn about running linux and is generally applicable
[20:44:00] dude12412: ok
[20:44:00] kernoman: i guarantee if you go to live tv and bring up the guide (S) and then exit the guide your screen will go black
[20:44:00] JonK: ill try that
[20:44:00] JonK: but again, just dont watch live tv
[20:44:00] JonK: or watch it from a non pvr-350 tuner?
[20:45:00] kernoman: doesnt matter what you watch it from, if your tv out is from the pvr 350 youll get it, any chance you can try now?
[20:45:00] JonK: cant
[20:45:00] JonK: in office, not home
[20:46:00] kernoman: i forget you are probably in the US im in UK and its 20:46
[20:46:00] JonK: ding ding
[20:46:00] kernoman: ?
[20:46:00] dude12412: another question, with myth tv, can i access music on another computer on the network that is a windows?
[20:46:00] JonK: you are correct
[20:47:00] JonK: yes
[20:47:00] kernoman: i see
[20:47:00] JonK: program you use is called samba
[20:47:00] kernoman: its dam hard to make these things wife friendly aint it!
[20:47:00] Beirdo: depends on the wife
[20:47:00] Beirdo: hehe
[20:47:00] JonK: samba allows you to make a linux directory look like a window share, or allows a linux machine to connect to windows share
[20:47:00] kernoman: hehehe they dont like buttons
[20:48:00] dude12412: ok
[20:49:00] JonK: but i think it still has trouble connectiong to a NTFS file system with read/write privileges
[20:49:00] JonK: anyone?
[20:49:00] Dibblah: JonK: Sorry. Completely unrelated ;)
[20:49:00] kernoman: i can connect to nfs with read write no probs
[20:49:00] Beirdo: NTFS != NFS
[20:50:00] Dibblah: You can't see if it's NTFS at all through a SMB connection.
[20:50:00] Dibblah: Well, apart from permissions, etc.
[20:50:00] CyberKnet: aha! I got that SPF record to show!
[20:50:00] JonK: i thought I could read a NTFS windows share just fine, but that writing to one was somewhat sketchy

[20:50:00] JonK: in fact, I'm certain you can read (set up such system at old fim)
[20:51:00] Dibblah: ie mounting the drive directly on a Linux box.
[20:51:00] Dibblah: SMB access is completely seperate.
[20:51:00] kormoc: actually, that's how SMB works...
[20:51:00] kernoman: what the dev irc room called?
[20:51:00] JonK: am talking about samba
[20:51:00] Dibblah: Kormoc: ?
[20:52:00] ** Beirdo wishies he could just go the hell home **
[20:52:00] kormoc: you 'mount' it and it sends SMB calls over based on what you attempt to do via the mounted dir
[20:52:00] Dibblah: JonK: Samba is the application. SMB is the protocol.

[20:54:00] dude12412: cya
[20:54:00] ** kormoc shrugs **
[20:54:00] Dibblah: Huh? You can just use Myth to watch TV? It's not just for fiddling with?

[20:55:00] Dibblah: kormoc: You do mount it.
[20:55:00] Dibblah: mount -t smbfs -o username=tridge,password=foobar //fjall/test /data/test
[20:55:00] kormoc: ooh, I misread what you said earlier
[20:55:00] kormoc: I thought you said mounting a smb share and using a smb share was different
[20:56:00] JonK: ok... now i've cleared up my confusion — mounting NTFS partition read write is one thing — mounting samba share another
[20:56:00] JonK: im mixing the two---
[20:56:00] kormoc: which isn't what you said, which is why I'm so confused.

[22:26:00] linux2: Unable to connect to database!
[22:26:00] JonK: you ==???
[22:26:00] JonK: did you get the database from rpm 2?
[22:26:00] twisted_one: linux2: you need mysql started and prepped
[22:26:00] linux2: and there is some more but i am guessing someone knows what this means
[22:27:00] twisted_one: linux2: honestly read the docs and follow them for the install procedure, you will learn alot more about the install process and how things work that way.
[22:28:00] twisted_one: it will help you out later when you are trying do things with myth
[22:28:00] linux2: twisted_one: if i had the time i would
[22:28:00] linux2: but the only problem is that i need this all done by tomorrow
[22:28:00] twisted_one: linux2: I can respect that.
[22:28:00] linux2: i need to get 3 hours of video into an mpeg
[22:28:00] linux2: then edit it
[22:28:00] twisted_one: linux2: you're going to spend way too much time fiddling with the bs instead of just getting it done right the first time.
[22:28:00] twisted_one: whys that?
[22:29:00] stoffel: linux2: use a different program then, like lavrec, mencoder, ...
[22:29:00] GeckoFiend: linux2 you don't NEED myth to capture from a camera

[23:48:00] dude234234234: ok

[23:51:00] Midkniht: easy as pie to make it work with debian stable (Sarge)
[23:51:00] JonK: sorry midkniht, not sure how to help
[23:51:00] jedix: BlueCamel: I came here to get some info on hdtv tuners and them working with rogers cable.. but never got around to asking
[23:51:00] dude234234234: my suggestion would be overlay, but, i dont know anything about myth tv
[23:51:00] JonK: bluecamel, i've heard that the file on the hd3000 website is not representative
[23:52:00] Midkniht: is it normal for video files to be 4 gigs for one tv movie?
[23:52:00] JonK: how long?
[23:52:00] JonK: i get about 2.2 gb per hour
[23:52:00] BlueCamel: JonK: cool.
[23:52:00] Midkniht: hour and half
[23:52:00] BlueCamel: JonK: I posted to the myth-users list too, being the greedy infomration spam seeker I am
[23:52:00] Midkniht: what can i do to reduce the size?
[23:52:00] JonK: maybe a bit high, but not obviously borked
[23:52:00] JonK: reduce recording quality
[23:52:00] GeckoFiend: Midkniht that's entirely dependant on the bitrate you're encoding at
[23:52:00] BlueCamel: Midkniht: what are you using for playback?
[23:52:00] BlueCamel: know mplayer and xine both allow you to adjust picture quality during playback
[23:52:00] Midkniht: mythfrontend
[23:53:00] Midkniht: mplayer
[23:53:00] Midkniht: how?
[23:53:00] BlueCamel: well, i could type out all the keys here, but look at man mplayer and save me some typing :)
[23:53:00] BlueCamel: there is a section marked key bindings
[23:53:00] BlueCamel: and look for saturation, brightness, contrast etc
[23:54:00] Midkniht: ahhhh
[23:54:00] Midkniht: thats why i couldnt figure it out
[23:54:00] BlueCamel: from memory I think they're somewhere up on the 1 – 9 keys
[23:54:00] jedix: I think they get saved to a .mplayer file or soemthing.
[23:54:00] Midkniht: what about making the video files smaller?
[23:54:00] BlueCamel: if you're not using a full keyboard you'll have to map them with your remote
[23:54:00] BlueCamel: i would guess
[23:54:00] BlueCamel: smaller file size?
[23:55:00] Midkniht: yes
[23:55:00] BlueCamel: Hmm.
[23:55:00] BlueCamel: no clue on that one
[23:55:00] BlueCamel: if you get a larger hard drive all the files will seem smaller ;)
[23:55:00] Midkniht: i figured last night by switching to mpg4 they were smaller
[23:56:00] Midkniht: and how can i keep it from locking up my pc by stopping recording when a certain filespace is left
[23:57:00] JonK: mid, you can specifiy a minimum free space before recording
[23:57:00] Esotericisms (~sfphinx@ip68-10-100-57.hr.hr.cox.net) has joined #mythtv-users
