[00:00:00] bobc: mchou: where did you find the dpms setting for kde screensavers?
[00:03:00] mchou: under screensaver setting in kcontrol.
[00:05:00] bobc: "make aware of power management" I suppose?
[00:06:00] mchou: take a wild guess.
[00:08:00] bobc: I didn't see it on my older Mandrake 9.1 system

[00:28:00] Beirdo: hmph.
[00:29:00] xris: Beirdo: so, I'm down to weird audio issues with the pvr-150, and the air2pc only tuning one channel (badly, at that)
[00:29:00] Beirdo: can't help with the air2pc :)
[00:29:00] Beirdo: define "weird audio issues"?
[00:31:00] xris: well, from what I can tell, if I use svideo, I get tuner audio (meaning none), and if I use the tuner for video, I get the line-in audio.
[00:31:00] xris: changing drivers hasn't done anything.
[00:32:00] xris: finally got my IR stuff working with the old method (losdos.dyndns)
[00:33:00] Beirdo: weird
[00:34:00] xris: yeah

[02:47:00] fweeee: ok. Now we are cooking. Thanks. I think it was down earlier, I then stuffed up my conf file trying to get mirrors to work, so even when it came back up it wouldnt work...

[02:48:00] MiX-MaN: heh
[02:48:00] MiX-MaN: now back to idling

[02:49:00] MiX-MaN: took 2 to get it working in fedora
[02:50:00] MiX-MaN: then the sound quit working
[02:50:00] fweeee: Oh.
[02:50:00] fweeee: So you recomend knoppmyth?
[02:50:00] MiX-MaN: nope
[02:51:00] MiX-MaN: if you can install it with KM do it :)
[02:51:00] MiX-MaN: without*
[02:51:00] fweeee: I was tempted to go with that. But I have a sata hdd, so the auto install wouldnt work, and I couldnt work out how to partition it manually (that partition screen was a bastard)
[02:51:00] MiX-MaN: i just wanted to see if this vid card would work before i dived into setting up a dedicated system
[02:52:00] fweeee: I see. And what are you planning on going with? FEdora? KM?
[02:52:00] MiX-MaN: now im just waiting to find a good howto with slackware
[02:52:00] mirov_: My turn for a question: When ripping DVDs I find that it grabs only a singe .vob, and skipps most of the tracks. Is there a setting I missed ?
[02:52:00] MiX-MaN: slack
[02:52:00] MiX-MaN: thats all i run here

[02:53:00] MiX-MaN: mirov: sorry no clue... havent attemped messing with dvd's yet
[02:53:00] MiX-MaN: fweeee: get used to it :)
[02:53:00] MiX-MaN: im a year into my linux spree.. and i still call myself a n00b
[02:55:00] fweeee: Damn. I was hoping it would stop soon :(
[02:55:00] MiX-MaN: heh
[02:55:00] MiX-MaN: well.. any lil prob you run into will normally mean atleast a 2 hour search on howto fix it
[02:56:00] fweeee: I know.
[02:56:00] MiX-MaN: ;)
[02:56:00] fweeee: I started off with fedora 64 bit, but had nothing but problems with that, as it didnt really like my video card. But 32 bit loves it. Its depressing using a 32 bit OS with a 64 bit chip. :(
[02:56:00] MiX-MaN: and most of the linux chans will just say "STFU and RTFM"
[02:58:00] fweeee: Yeah, its a bit hit and miss if you find someone willing to help you.
[02:58:00] MiX-MaN: heh

[02:58:00] MiX-MaN: cant remember where though

[02:59:00] fweeee: Been working through it.

[02:59:00] MiX-MaN: ;)
[02:59:00] MiX-MaN: thats the one i used
[03:00:00] MiX-MaN: few probs i ran into.. cant remember what though
[03:00:00] MiX-MaN: video drivers was the big one
[03:01:00] MiX-MaN: i was using a GF4 ti4400 and... well... me and fedora had a lil fight
[03:01:00] bobc: I'm in the process of installing using kubuntu 5.0.4 for the third time. I'm documenting it at mythtv.info under UbuntuInstallation. pretty easy once you know all the little gotchas and have instructions to follow. I also include installing myth from source.
[03:01:00] fweeee: Oh. I got my video driver working, thought I got it from nvidia, not through any atrpms like they said.

[03:11:00] fweeee: rjune: Thanks, but I'm a linux newbie, following very explicit instructions on installing mythtv on fedora, and I'm afraid to stray to far from t hese instructions.
[03:12:00] fweeee: Or do you mean they are just alternate mirrors?
[03:12:00] rjune: fweeee: fedora-extras and livna are different repos
[03:12:00] rjune: for myth, atrpms is the only one.
[03:12:00] fweeee: Ahh, ok then. Thanks. So I gotta wait till its up and happy again?
[03:12:00] rjune: though if you have a choice(nvidia drives you do) fedora-extras and livna are better than atrpms

[05:38:00] xris: and someone just posted to the ivtv list with the same audio problems I'm having with my pvr-150, so I know I'm not alone there, either.
[05:39:00] fweeee: Damn. My machine wont recognise my DVB TV card.
[05:40:00] fweeee: I have read that this version of linux (FC3) supports it nativly, so no need to install drivers.
[05:40:00] xris: fweeee: is it a supported card?
[05:40:00] fweeee: According to the sites I have read, yes.
[05:40:00] xris: fweeee: install the dvb kernel driver packages from atrpms
[05:41:00] defaultro: im back
[05:41:00] fweeee: I have tried that briefly, but am having troubles finding the exact command/driver to get.
[05:41:00] defaultro: hi mchou
[05:41:00] defaultro: hi xris

[05:43:00] mchou: hi defaultro. gimme a min.
[05:43:00] defaultro: thanks
[05:44:00] xris: defaultro: that'll be different depending on how many machines have connected to the master backend
[05:44:00] defaultro: oh ok
[05:45:00] defaultro: what about for single combo
[05:45:00] mchou: defaultro: yeah, I have like 3 BE and 4 FE's here :)

[05:47:00] defaultro: are there other tables?
[05:47:00] mchou: yup.
[05:47:00] defaultro: oh ok
[05:47:00] mchou: BackendserverIP should be set in mythtv-setp.

[06:21:00] mchou: and forget what I said about the kernel. I thought you were referring to a2pc.
[06:21:00] fweeee: It can be set up as if it was a pcHDTV 2000
[06:22:00] fweeee: no, from what I read, the driver for this card is in FC3 in the current version too.

[06:29:00] mchou: depends if you are using udev or DevFS.
[06:29:00] fweeee: Hmmmm. I wouldnt know (udev of DevFS)
[06:30:00] mchou: fweeee: generally speaking you shouldn't NEED to create the dir.
[06:30:00] fweeee: But I'm thinking that linux has to create them themselves if it should be there.
[06:30:00] LedHed: I have a DVD Rip that plays in spanish within Myth but english if I play it through regular Xine
[06:30:00] mchou: If the drivers gets loaded they will most likely be created.

[06:31:00] mchou: fweeee: it means you dont get to collect $200 :)
[06:32:00] fweeee: Is the driver part of the kernel? Or should I do some sort of atrpms update to get it?

[08:54:00] mchou: like I said, it's for cable. For OTA you need to modify the join statement to use callsign.
[08:55:00] mchou: xris: the script is fully documented.

[09:33:00] mchou: crappy hauppauge. Make sure you get a type 39 tuner. The type 50 I think is crap.

[10:01:00] xris: (actually, it wants to put them in with my dishnetwork stuff)
[10:01:00] mchou: xris: explain in other words pls.
[10:01:00] sunilonln: rpm -ql libXvMCW
[10:01:00] sunilonln: shows the files to exist

[10:01:00] sunilonln: any ideas?
[10:02:00] xris: sunilonln: that lists the files that SHOULD be there, not the ones on your drive
[10:02:00] mchou: xris: hdtv dd=> dd source (for hdtv)
[10:02:00] sunilonln: ok
[10:02:00] xris: yeah, and did mythfilldatabase so it's populated with all of the dd stuff.
[10:02:00] mchou: huh??
[10:02:00] xris: but then I need to go in and do a channel scan with the air2pc, no?
[10:03:00] mchou: you need to verify hdtv only has hdtv channels & listings.
[10:03:00] sunilonln: so would it be the right idea to run 'rpm -Uvh libXvMCW'?
[10:04:00] xris: mchou: yes, did that long ago
[10:04:00] xris: but when I do a channel scan, it puts the scan data into the dd listing, not the scan listing.

[10:04:00] xris: sunilonln: or apt-get
[10:04:00] sunilonln: ok
[10:05:00] mchou: and when you do an actual transport scan, you need to make sure that that source (hdtvscan) is not associated with a dd source.
[10:05:00] sunilonln: apt says that it is already the newest version

[10:27:00] xris: but which one, "dd" or "scan"?
[10:27:00] xris: your script says to use "dd"

[10:27:00] mchou: xris: back up.....
[10:28:00] xris: there are two hdtv sources.. one for dd, and one for scan.

[10:29:00] xris: yeah
[10:29:00] xris: and then I went and assocated the dd one with the card
[10:30:00] mchou: ok. so what's the problem so far?

[10:32:00] mchou: xris: put up screenshot
[10:32:00] xris: that source listed there is the one attached to the card
[10:32:00] xris: can't atm, it's scanning
[10:33:00] xris: I think I just have to first associate "hdtv scan" with the card, scan, and then go back and associate "hdtv dd" with the card, then run your script

[10:47:00] xris: oh, just that your instructions aren't clear about how to make things work.
[10:47:00] xris: since you have to assign the "scan" lineup to the card before you can actually perform a scan.
[10:47:00] mchou: also right now would not be the best time to scan for channels.
[10:47:00] xris: then you have to go back and assign the "dd" lineup to the card.

[17:11:00] Super_Cat_Frog: walto – if you have one that does hardware decoding and encoding, you dont have to do hardly anything with your cpu
[17:12:00] Super_Cat_Frog: tivo's have very underpowered processors (50mhz iirc) but they have hardware encoders/decoder cards
[17:12:00] walto: I know. But my CPU is fast enough to do the work, so I don't really need that in short notice
[17:12:00] beavis: walto: bttv stuff is much easier to cut/transcode. but you can't play it on win directly. You'll need a more powerfull pc for it (>1000)
[17:12:00] beavis: walto: so start with your old card
[17:13:00] walto: yeah, I already have it running.

[18:06:00] shaya: its weird
[18:06:00] opello: shaya: mythtv comes with a script to setup the database, so debian shouldn't be changing that
[18:06:00] furfurfur: hi all! Anyone here using DVB-S with 0.18? Need a little advice!
[18:06:00] defaultro: i think, you can cat the device to an mpg file then have mplayer play that file
[18:07:00] defaultro: if you get a sound, something is wrong with mythtv
[18:07:00] opello: shaya: if it works on reboot but not on restarting the process, there's something wrong, heh
[18:07:00] defaultro: or before going any further, grab a simple sound file and cat it to the sound device
