[01:18:00] jemarcks: cromz, i got video and audio working on tuner0 with mplayer. :D
[01:18:00] Cromz: so whats your good news? hopefully doesn't include you running around naked like in that drea.. er.. nevermind
[01:18:00] jemarcks: lol
[01:18:00] Cromz: cool.
[01:18:00] directhex (~jms@shields.gotadsl.co.uk) Quit (Remote closed the connection)
[01:19:00] jemarcks: one problem left.... when i watch livetv in the frontend, it freezes after 3 sec.
[01:19:00] jemarcks: searches of the archive have not produced much worth while.
[01:19:00] Cromz: hmm the only differance being mythtv records to ringbuff then replays it like a recording. so......
[01:19:00] jemarcks: hmmm
[01:20:00] jemarcks: like the buffer underruns?
[01:20:00] jemarcks: cromz, so.....?
[01:21:00] Cromz: something to do with writting the file to disk and reading from the disk.. you running both as same user?
[01:21:00] jemarcks: cromz, yeah... both are mythtv im pretty sure.... ummm.. wait. i started mythbackend in rc.local
[01:21:00] jemarcks: could that be it?
[01:22:00] Cromz: I dunno.. just ruling out the simple
[01:22:00] jemarcks: yeah... true.
[01:22:00] kormoc (~kormoc@dsl254-022-032.sea1.dsl.speakeasy.net) Quit ("Done with work, yay!")
[01:23:00] jemarcks: cromz, well, mythtv owns /video/buffer
[01:23:00] Cromz: ringbuff.nuv?
[01:23:00] jemarcks: where is that?
[01:24:00] Cromz: should be in where your recording are setup to go. or where every you told mythbackend to save it
[01:24:00] jemarcks: that would be in /video/buffer. its empthy
[01:25:00] Cromz: not real sure how it does it. but I know if a frontend tell the backend to watch livetv it starts the ringbuff
[01:25:00] Cromz: and the frontend then starts reading that same ringbuff
[01:26:00] Cromz: but it's only there when it's told to watch livetv
[01:26:00] jemarcks: yeah.. i have see that file in there. but its not watching live tv now so it seems reasonable to expect it to be empty
[01:27:00] jemarcks: cromz, do you have a fc3 system?
[01:27:00] Cromz: aye
[01:27:00] jemarcks: what permissions do you have on /dev/dsp?
[01:27:00] Cromz: heh yes.
[01:28:00] Cromz: hmm I dunno..
[01:28:00] jemarcks: crw------- 1 mythtv root 14, 3 May 5 08:08 /dev/dsp
[01:28:00] Cromz: crw------- 1 ross root 14, 3 May 4 23:57 /dev/dsp
[01:28:00] jemarcks: hmmm... is ross the user for myth?
[01:28:00] Cromz: lol no root is
[01:28:00] Cromz: I log in as that..
[01:29:00] Cromz: that's my real name
[01:29:00] jemarcks: AH
[01:29:00] jemarcks: ok.
[01:29:00] Cromz: I open a terminal ans su.. then start the backend and mtd and frontend
[01:29:00] jemarcks: so that follows what mine is
[01:30:00] jemarcks: do you have mythbackend auto started?
[01:30:00] Cromz: no
[01:30:00] jemarcks: how do you start it up then?
[01:30:00] jemarcks: rc.local?
[01:31:00] Cromz: open a terminal and type mythbackend -d
[01:31:00] Cromz: lol
[01:31:00] jemarcks: ah... lol... glutten for punishment
[01:31:00] jemarcks: so you start up the backend as 'you' and not root?
[01:31:00] Cromz: this system is my workstation as well as my myth-box.. and everything else..
[01:32:00] jemarcks: hmmmmmmm.
[01:32:00] jemarcks: so, yes?
[01:32:00] Cromz: no.. I opened a terminal then su then start the backend
[01:32:00] jemarcks: ok
[01:32:00] jemarcks: cool
[01:32:00] jemarcks: that jives with me runing it in rc.local to start it. same as root
[01:32:00] jemarcks: and it should be root
[01:34:00] jemarcks: well darn, that doesnt help me root cause why livetv freezes up after about 3 sec.
[01:35:00] jemarcks: cromz, you have a 250, right?
[01:35:00] Cromz: no

[01:37:00] jemarcks: true
[01:37:00] Cromz: I mean I was watching myth recording of charmed last night, ripping taxi and playing city of heroes with cedega on this system :>
[01:38:00] jemarcks: ok.. another questions for yall. i am switching from directv to digital cable on saturday. is it a hassle to switch myth?
[01:39:00] jemarcks: I already have 2 weeks of channel guide data in the database
[01:39:00] rjune_: I think you just have to redo your guide source
[01:40:00] rjune_: you'll have to redo a lot of your scheduling too prolly as channel #'s will change
[01:40:00] jshoor (~jshoor@c-65-96-167-221.hsd1.ma.comcast.net) Quit (" HydraIRC -> http://www.hydrairc.com <-")

[01:40:00] jemarcks: and mythfilldatabase will fix the rest? cool
[01:41:00] jemarcks: not much scheduleing set up since this is a new box that isnt field ready yet.
[01:41:00] Cromz: field ready?!?! you military!??!
[01:41:00] jemarcks: with digital cable, i dont need a IR blaster to change the channel.

[04:13:00] Agrajag-: so output will be the same?
[04:13:00] Beirdo: output's already covered
[04:13:00] Agrajag-: hmm ok
[04:13:00] Agrajag-: i did mine manually, and seemed to have to change both
[04:13:00] Beirdo: for instance... DVD is always 4:3
[04:13:00] Agrajag-: but maybe not i can't really remember
[04:14:00] Agrajag-: no i dont think so
[04:14:00] Agrajag-: a pal dvd is always 720x576
[04:14:00] Beirdo: it is for now
[04:14:00] Agrajag-: but you can letterbox it
[04:14:00] Agrajag-: which is what i ended up doing
[04:14:00] Beirdo: it's ALWAYS 4:3 when we generate it
[04:14:00] Agrajag-: so you actually end up with 16:9
[04:14:00] Beirdo: so if your source isn't 4:3, it gets letterboxed or pillarboxed
[04:15:00] Agrajag-: yep
[04:15:00] Beirdo: that's already supported

[18:23:00] DrKv: ok — i see it now
[18:23:00] DrKv: :)
[18:25:00] DrKv: it has a password
[18:25:00] jspot: greyfoxx, the main thing is that my remote wonder hardly works – only the arrow keys work and the ok button works like the ctrl-enter withou the crt (ie i hightlights but doesnt submit)
[18:25:00] jspot: i am thinking its the qt issue?
[18:25:00] GreyFoxx: jspot: I doubt it's got anything to do with qt
[18:25:00] GreyFoxx: Using the default ati_remote kernel module ?
[18:26:00] GeckoFiend: not being able to press the buttone with enter is pretty much *the* symptom of the FC3 Qt problem
[18:26:00] jspot: hmmm any suggestions for the remote? I followed tim litwiller(?) instructions using lirc, should I try gatos instead?
[18:26:00] DrKv: do i fix the passwd in the mythtv home folder ? or in my home folder
[18:26:00] GreyFoxx: GeckoFiend: Maybe, but if he's using the ati_remote kernel modules most of the buttons are not mapped to keys that myth will understand
[18:27:00] GeckoFiend: when he orgininally reported this he said "it does the same thign as pressing enter. nothing"
[18:27:00] GreyFoxx: Ahhh
[18:27:00] jspot: are you familiar with this? http://www.litwiller.net/mythtv/remote.html
[18:28:00] mirak: hum
[18:28:00] mirak: how to get a full display for mythtvfrontend ?
[18:28:00] mirak: or just a small window
[18:28:00] DrKv: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
[18:29:00] GreyFoxx: jspot: I'm familiar with the remote, but not with using lirc to deal with it. I have a remove that is very similar but I don't use lirc with it. I use a modified gatos/ati_remote driver for mine.
[18:29:00] DrKv: ??
[18:29:00] DrKv: i have no idea
[18:29:00] DrKv: do i have to be in the mythtv account ?
[18:29:00] GreyFoxx: jspot: You could very well be running into the bug that Geck mentioned
[18:30:00] jspot: GreyFoxx:ok i will try that then – did you follow tims instructions for that?
[18:30:00] mirov (~mirov@192.18.43.5) Quit (Remote closed the connection)

[18:31:00] DrKv: yes
[18:31:00] DrKv: true
[18:31:00] GreyFoxx: To which question ?:)
[18:31:00] DrKv: should i log in as mythtv ?
[18:31:00] DrKv: i did a su to mythtv
[18:31:00] DrKv: and got that error
[18:32:00] GreyFoxx: su – mythtv "should work"
[18:32:00] xri1: DrKv: run setup as root
[18:32:00] xri1: it's trying to get into mysql and can't
[18:32:00] DrKv: then i get the 'access denied"
[18:32:00] DrKv: with root
[18:32:00] mirak: where is the best place to put the videos records of mythtv ?
[18:32:00] xri1: you ssh'd in?
[18:32:00] GreyFoxx: A failure to connect to an X server has nothing to do with mysql, unless you are referring to a different problem xri:
[18:33:00] xri1: or try `sudo mythtv-setup`
[18:33:00] DrKv: QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
[18:33:00] DrKv: Database error was:

[18:33:00] mirak: can I put them in /home/mythtv ?
[18:33:00] DrKv: i haven't a clue
[18:33:00] GreyFoxx: DrKv: That means it can't find mysql.txt or you have the wrong auth info in it
[18:33:00] DrKv: ok
[18:33:00] GreyFoxx: mirak: You can place them anywhere you want
[18:33:00] Beirdo: there's a database setup script that needs to be run first, no?
[18:33:00] jspot: GreyFoxx: thx – i guess I will still try his instructions as a start – i just didnt want to go through the whole thing of switching to gatos if the whole thing was qt anyway...
[18:33:00] GreyFoxx: Beirdo: mc.sql
[18:34:00] xri1: GreyFoxx: no, it means that he hasn't set up the database at ALL.. there's no mythtv user
[18:34:00] Beirdo: that's the one
[18:34:00] Beirdo: :)
[18:34:00] wsy: DrKv: there's a short script you have to run to set up the mySQL user "mythtv". Note that the idea of a "mySQL user" and a real user are totally different.
[18:34:00] DrKv: ok
[18:34:00] DrKv: where do i run that
[18:34:00] xri1: that's why you go in as root.
[18:34:00] GreyFoxx: xri1: The DB access error I agree, but failure to connect to X is not a mysql related problem
[18:34:00] DrKv: where is the script ?
[18:34:00] wsy: There's no connect between a "user" in the mySQL subsystem and a "user" as defined in /etc/passwd.
[18:34:00] xri1: yes, that's true
[18:34:00] DrKv: i thought i had set it up when i installed mysql
[18:34:00] mirak: GreyFoxx: the user to wich it belogs depends of the front end or the backend ?
[18:35:00] mirak: I mean from who launched it
[18:35:00] GreyFoxx: mirak: It needs to be writable by the backend
[18:35:00] DrKv: i can run 'mysql' ok

[18:36:00] DrKv: where is the script located ?
[18:36:00] wsy: DrKv: Hmmm... I can't remember the name of it. Anybody remember the name of the MySQL script that sets up the database?
[18:36:00] GreyFoxx: mc.sql
[18:36:00] wsy: Ah,yes.
[18:36:00] DrKv: is that in root's stuff ? or my home directory ? or the mythtv directory ?
[18:37:00] wsy: /usr/share/mythtv/database/mc.sql
[18:37:00] DrKv: so, run as root ?
[18:37:00] wsy: Yeah.
[18:37:00] DrKv: ok
